  1. My bestest buddy ever passed away last year. Had a hard time with that but the wife brought this guy home the other day. The shelter called him Moose. SO that's his name. He's about 2 yrs old and 85 pounds of American Bulldog. He's fairly easy to get along with. He sleeps about 18 hours a day. He's a big TGO fan though.

  2. Grandfathers Don't Always Know Everything... Hunter was 4 years old and was staying with his grandfather for a few days. He'd been playing outside with the other kids, when he came into the house and asked, "Grandpa, what's that called when two people sleep in the same bedroom and one is on top of the other?" His Grandpa was a little taken aback, but he decided to tell him the truth. "Well, Hunter, it's called sexual intercourse." "Oh," Little Hunter said, "OK," and went back outside to play with the other kids. A few minutes later he came back in and said angrily, "Grandpa, it isn't called sexual intercourse." "It's called Bunk Beds. And Jimmy's mom wants to talk to you."

  5. Anything potentially involving the FISA court has me shaking my head. The entire premise of a secret court where Judges serve as a rubber stamp anytime the words "national security" are used is disgusting.

  6. Wow…. The libs have to be having a good laugh about this; watching the gun folks turn on each other and they didn’t have to do anything. Between this and the election we have to appear pretty divided. Disgusting.

  7. I managed to squeeze another day in my friend's workshop today. Got a bunch done. 5 blades profiled, ground to 120 grit & soaking in in the oven as I type this. Cobbled together a quick belt holster for my NAA magnum this afternoon too!

  8. If you are on a no fly and terror watch list and you buy a gun there should be a red flag somewhere that says "Maybe you want to look into this guy you are already looking into". That doesn't mean you get denied for being on the list but it at least raises an eyebrow. That being said there has to be a process in which you can get off these lists instead of putting you on it and not being able to get off because you have a similar name.

  16. I recently built a 16 inch Grendel using the Alexander arms lightweight barrel and I'm in love with that little rifle. Very lightweight set up and the round hits hard on steel at 100. the 223's just tap the steel where the Grendel smacks the .... out of it. I built this one to shoot the wolf steel cased ammo. That ammo is under .30 cents around and I'm getting 1.5 groups with that ammo at 100. About a inch or so with factory hornady ammo. Very pleased for a rifle built to be a plinker. I haven't had a chance to stretch its legs yet, but will try to remember to let you know if I do. Check out the 65grendel forum. Ton of good info there. feel free to PM me with any questions, I will help answer any questions I can.

  17. People really believe this. I worked for many years as a tool & die maker and I can assure you, there will ALWAYS be guns. Even the more difficult to manufacture 'Ammunition' ain't impossible. Guns are here, they will NEVER leave. Not until our tyrannical government has exterminated every one.

  25. I enjoyed hiding puzzle caches. Some required a bit of cipher-busting, some required internet searches...even did a "Hoplophilia" series of caches where you had to retrieve info RE caliber, military designations, history etc to solve. They were all well-received in the area. Multi's are pretty cool, too - you can have a lot of fun with those.

  27. There is a LOT of info on 6.5G ballistics. Look on ar15.com. There is a section on 6.5G. Lots of data on stickies. Likewise, at Alexander arms there is plenty of information. The 6.5G is superior to the 5.56 from comparable barrel lengths at any distance. The 6.5G and 6.8 are very similar in effectiveness. There are factory 6.5 loads that outshine the 6.8 at longer range, and 6.8 factory loads that are more effective from short barrels (14" and under).

  28. Spoke with UTK PD today, as well as other jurisdictions where my work takes me (Oak Ridge, Cookeville, Chattanooga, Metro PD, etc.) as most of my work locations aren't under campus PD jurisdiction. UTK was surprisingly positive and helpful, as were other agencies...even Commander Drake's office of the Central Precinct for MNPD. Will need to fill out a UTK form for their campuses statewide. Some municipal PD's and SO's as well as metro allowed me to simply fax a letter to them. Overall, somewhat simple, considering having to send upwards of a dozen letters throughout the state. Here's UTK official policy promulgated today: http://policy.tennessee.edu/safety_policy/sa0875/

  30. Don't most of us have to make a buck to continue to exist? That certainly doesn't keep us from allowing politics to persuade or dissuade us from taking certain actions in life. I don't say anything about Walgreens or Best Buy not selling or displaying firearms, because they never have. It was never part of their business model. Academy, on the other hand, has devoted a sizable portion of their business to firearms and related merchandise. The consumerism that drove them to sell and display those scary black rifles in the first place can and should work against them when they all of a sudden decide to change direction. Whether they wanted to or not, they made it entirely political when they allowed the political climate to dictate their policy. But if consumerism is supposed to validate or refute those decisions, like you said, then why the chiding toward the people attempting to refute the decision of Academy? You seem to think very highly of your own opinions and ability to validate or refute something, but hold little regard for anyone else attempting to do the same. That might be the biggest difference between my philosophy and yours. I'm willing to pay more for something if I see value in other aspects of supporting a business, besides just saving a buck. I go out of my way to buy many American made products, even though I have to do a little more work and spend more money to do so. Businesses often use their money and clout as leverage to push policies that help them, and I'm free to use my $$$$ as leverage as I see fit. I'm not a consumerist robot. I realize that business has been intertwined with government and politics. The little Mom & Pop stores have been brushed aside to make way for corporations that have no true concern for any type of "community," only a concern for a bottom line. Rarely do you see large businesses and corporations that are completely apolitical when push comes to shove. You see more and more businesses going out of their way to stick their noses into hot-button topics and social issues. Anti-gunners and other Leftists have no problem trying to push businesses to conform to whichever direction the politically correct winds are blowing. Why shouldn't I be pushing right back? Speaking of groceries, why do I spend a little more at Kroger than other places? Is it because of lower prices? Not really. Is it because more selections? Not really. Is it because it's the only place to buy groceries near me? Nope. It might have something to do with the fact that Kroger management told the Moms Demand Action yentas to take a long walk off a short pier. Kroger doesn't even sell guns or ammunition or anything like that. Yet mysteriously, I've allowed a decision on guns to affect how I support a business that only sells groceries. Why? Because currency has been weaponized and I have to be willing to use it if/when/where others are trying to use it against me. What you see as a "friendly" business that at least still has some overlap with the firearms community, I see as a corporation who's quick to buckle under pressure and cut off its nose to spite its face. There's currently no law prohibiting them from selling AR-15s or displaying them right in the middle of the store. There wasn't even enough time for them to gauge any kind of negative consumer reaction or decrease in sales. This is something that corporate HQ was clearly ready to do should they come under even the slightest scrutiny. I don't need friends like that. As a gun owner who loves my AR collection, I certainly don't want to rely on those types of entities or give them more support and leverage than they deserve. The idea that they pull scary black rifles from public display that quickly was actually a political statement that plays right into the hands of the gun grabbers. It was as much of a business decision as was Target's business decision to allow grown men to walk into a bathroom with your wife or daughter. Again, it's all become politics when you scratch the surface. But you're right, you are free to patronize them and support them according to your own philosophy. I'm free to do the same. But you're not free to call into question my reluctance and personal boycott without getting some kind of negative reaction.

  36. Get an aluminum one. The plastic ones have had problems with the front takedown pin hole. As far as forged v cast v machined, who cares? The lower is not a stressed part on the AR. Perhaps one of these days I'll see a lower where that would have made a difference. In 35 years of shooting M16s and AR15s, I have yet to see a lower where one type was better than another except for appearance. For the price of the Aero lower, you can get two cheap ones. Shoot one and hide the other if it makes you feel better!

  45. Thank you for an actual reply. I know this is an ancient thread but I had no idea it rankled some people so much. It was my first post here so I have a learning curve to travel before I know the personalities who post on this forum. I'll learn.  :pleased:   I have a series 70 (A1) and a series 80 (A2) Tisas. Neither rattle and both are tight and smooth. The A2 had a bit of creep in the trigger which required stoning the sear & hammer. It's now as nice as the A1. After shooting my A1, a friend purchased one of the "enhanced" A2 models and is also quite pleased with it. It had the same creep in the trigger as my A2 and it's been touched up to be crisp.   I've owned three RIA 1911's, a Colt Commander and a Thompson. Presently I own several 1927 Argentines, the two Tisas 1911's and a Military Spec Springfield. All are excellent shooters; accurate and reliable. I like my 1911's and my Tisas models suit me fine. My experience - so far - has been 100% positive and I don't see them as "cheap" but rather "inexpensive". Their quality is well above "cheap"... IMO, of course.
