  1. There is absolutely no telling where gun laws would be right now without the new and more intractable NRA that has evolved since the AWB. Indeed, if membership falls, that simply means less voter power to hold over the heads of pols nationwide that will support more and more restrictive gun rights. It's amazing what the NRA has been able to influence with only its 5 million or so members currently. Think if there were 25 million. I'm thinking that with the continuing wimpification of America, that 5 mil won't be nearly enough to sway the anti-gun sentiment translating to law (especially federal) ere long. - OS

  2. So here's what pricing looks like... 20oz RTIC ... $30 30oz RTIC ... $35 I can save us some money on postage by using USPS First Class "Shoe Box" shipping for quantities 1-2 and the cost will be around $7.00 - $8.50 depending on where you are and whether it's just one or two in the box. The most expensive rate at $8.50 was sending one to Seattle, WA just to get an idea of what the outer limit of cost was going to be. So unless you live in Alaska or Hawaii you should be within that range. The Flat Rate boxes just cost what they cost. For 3-4 of these things we're talking about either the Medium Box or the Large Box. I am going to post these in the TGO Store today.

  4. I can't imagine any good reason not to be in the NRA right now. If nothing else isn't it worth $35 every year to see so many liberals piss themselves over the NRA? If you're a gun owner, and you aren't in the NRA you seriously need to ask yourself what you are doing to ensure our 2A rights for the future.

  7. I bet they will. Ronnie has taken some pretty positioned stances before and I can see them doing this. He won't sell his 50cal to the State of California for example. He said if the people can't have them, he wouldn't sell them to the State either. While the NRA isn't perfect, they certainly do more than almost any other organization to help protect 2A.

  13. I'll second all of this. The 30-30 is a fine deer gun to 200 maybe 250 yards. Bullet selection is important. Much of the old info is based on old bullet technology. With modern ammunition I wouldn't be worried about white tail deer at 200yds. it would also be handy for many other types of game. Put a receiver sight on it and you will truly be surprised at the accuracy and the speed that you can pick up targets with. A receiver sight on a lever gun changes it completely!

  14. You've been a victim of gun store b.s. A 30-30, while not a true long range caliber, is more than sufficient for a 200 yard clean kill on anything in the continental U.S. while there's an m4 under the seat of my truck, a Winchester 94 or a Marlin 336 would be a fine choice. Add a Williams Foolproof receiver sight and prepare to be amazed. My pre 64 Winchester will shoot moa groups regularly with factory sights.

  16. This whole thing is highly suspect. If it is a Glock then they are not "cocked" while at rest. The trigger being pressed is what pulls the striker rearward and the cruciform dropping out of the way then releases it allowing it to move forward. Something would have had to pull the striker (firing pin) to the rear ,disengaging the internal safeties , and compressing the striker spring, disengaging the firing pin safety (which keeps it from moving forward unless the trigger is pressed) and dropping the cruciform off the ledge, releasing the striker to make it fire. The cruciform cannot get out of the way to allow it go forward until it is pushed all the way to the rear and the firing pin safety is disengaged by rearward trigger movement. That is how they work. The trigger has to be pulled to fire it....

  17.   Yep.   Im going to stick to my AK or 300 BO suggestion.    I respect a skilled lever gun shooter in a "situation".   It takes a lot of practice,  but don't sell it short either.   I would rather have the higher capacity and faster semi-auto, of course.   My advice in these situations is to sit on it.    I see this a lot -- "I have $500 to spend what can it get".   Now, 500 might get you what you want, and if so, that is awesome.   If you are drooling after something that costs 750 ... sit on it until you have 750.    Or get the gun now and the optic for Christmas.    The point is to remove the budget restriction from the equation.  If you had 2500 bucks in hand today, right now, what would you buy to put in your truck?  Answer that one, and then see if its a workable goal in a workable timeframe.   And don't forget used ... that 750 gun new might fall into your hands for 600, 500 used if you find one.

  19. I had some free time tonight so I decided to do a drawing of my recent AK build. Started out to do a more technical drawing but got part way through and said screw it, so I ended up with this. It's hard to tell from the photo but it's actual size of an ak.

  24. Wait until Midway has this on sale. You can usually get it for about $40. These are great bags. I would pay the $70 if I absolutely needed one right now, but these always seem to be on sale except of course right now. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/259680/midwayusa-competition-range-bag-system

  27. Since they are projecting a 27,000 sq. ft. building, I would imagine that the range would be a decent size. By comparison, their current retail location is between 6000-7000 sq. ft. Even so, considering that it will be an indoor range, I would imagine that the lane distance would be comparable to that of Nashville Armory, which allows longarms. There's certainly no room for a 100 yd. range indoors. The proposed location is on W. Castle St., which is the street that runs behind Budget Brakes on Broad St. (near the intersection of Broad & Church St.) I read the part about being able to fire a Barrett 50 as well-- if that's in their plan, they must be building one hell of a backstop.

  30. I recently picked up a Savage Model 112 Magnum Target in 338 LM. I took it out to ORSA today for barrel break-in. I shot 10 rounds of 250gr Lapua Scenar, using Lapua brass and 91 grains of H1000. Projectiles were set with a .025 jump. I wasn't shooting for accuracy or even truly to zero the scope, just to get a feel for it and break the barrel in. After just 10 rounds I can confirm a few things: 1) It's impossible not to grin when you shoot this thing. 2) The target accu-trigger is super-responsive. I don't have a gauge to measure the pull but it feels like a factory setting of 1lb-ish. 3) The muzzle brake will not make you any friends on the firing line. Luckily today I didn't have anyone on either side of me so it wasn't an issue. I didn't get a picture at the range but this is it while I was mounting the scope. It's got a Ken Farrell 20moa base, Seekins rings, and a Vortex Viper PST FFP 6-24x50 that I took off another rifle.

  32. I know you can hunt / camp on ANY undeveloped TVA land. Not sure how they feel about setting up targets. I'm sure they would not like you leaving any trash, so I would pick up everything. I recently discovered that there is a tract of land just up the road from me that is great for camping. I see folks parked at the gate all the time during hunting season. I assumed you had to get permission. I called and they said the undeveloped land is available for use to the public without any additional permission for recreation including hunting and camping. Here are the rules. You determine if they apply to target shooting. I think at the very least, I would call them: https://tva.gov/Environment/Environmental-Stewardship/Land-Management/Rules-for-Use-of-TVA-Public-Lands You can find the maps of the land here: https://tva.gov/Environment/Recreation/Undeveloped-Recreation-Areas

  33. Did you ever work up the nerve to give it a shot? I need to do another update with pictures on how the S&W camo has held up. I'll try to do that soon. I'm really surprised that the paint has held up so well with the use it gets. The other two have only been to the range a few times so they still look new, going to have to work on that haha.

  35. My office is along-side the airport. I watched them fly right over my building just over our roof and tree line all day. Such an awesome sight. Many employees carried a chair out to watch throughout the day. One of our supervisors saw the accident... or what you could see of it at a 1/2 mile or so. We all watched the Smoke rise hoping he ejected. I agree a glass should be raised in honor of this hero.

  37. If that's true, everybody oughta raise a glass to that guy. That takes a selfless man to be that kinda hero. He could have just as easily punched out and the plane landed on god knows what.

  45. Yup, quickly accurate on COM to 150 yards or more with just cheek weld with iron sights, plenty of velocity with 5.56 out of 10.5" barrel or even shorter with softpoints or other expanding bullets, with 20-30 quick chances too. :) Can do it for 'bout same price as a Glock, so if stolen it's not the worst financial blow. Also, can legally carry it outside the vehicle in TN in normal times if necessary, and do it quite gray man if you keep it in something like this: Here's mine, lives in the above racquet case behind the seat in my toy truck: - OS
