UPDATE... I've spoken with the supplier and we will be going with the 20oz and 30oz RTIC tumblers as they are the most cost effective and are just as nice of quality as the ORCA or the Yeti tumblers. I have pricing, I just need to nail down shipping costs so that we can begin taking pre-orders. I hope to have this done by this Friday so that we can begin taking orders over the weekend. The window for ordering will be two weeks. After two weeks are up, the window will close and I will get them on the way to us.4 points

Per Harry Turtledove they chose the AK. And they were taught how to manufacture the ammunition as well. The North tried to reverse engineer it, but they were too slow in development and the South won.4 points

Are they using a computerized system to do the background checks? I'd be willing to bet if you checked a printout of the form you'd see a mismatch on either your name or address vs. what they're expecting via your SSN. I expect the feds are using at least some of the same structure that the banks and credit bureaus use to do identity validation. An address mismatch will throw a flag. They've got your information saved and as such, it's throwing the same error every time. I bet you could get them to correct it next time you go in. My future patronage would depend on it.2 points

That's because such facts are irrelevant to these cases. It's all about whether or not a government is within the bounds of its authority in passing and enforcing the law as written. Maybe in our state, the wording of our Constitution having "with a view to prevent crime" in the wording it can stick, but courts have historically deferred to legislatures as to something like "a view" being up to them. The place to inject the facts and statistics you mention is in the legislative fights, but even there, they do little good. Most legislatures are just playing their part from a script, with the committee hearings and votes being for show. The TN General Assembly is a great example of this.2 points

Last night I finally had the time to finish up my AK build that has been sitting dormant for a while now. Many thanks to one un-named member with helping me through the barrel press in and head spacing. This is the before: This is the after:2 points

I hate to say it but I would much rather get shot than get run through with this bad boy. It was attached to the Ballard Carbine shown below. The Ballard rifles were among the most popular with sportsman and hunters in the 1800s. You've probably seen Westerns where the gun has two triggers and is accurate for quite a distance. That is a Ballard. Different model that this one. This gun has a reversible firing pin so it can be either rim fire or center fire. I may actually shoot this gun. The metal is solid and the wood is in really good shape. In looking at my old guns, most of them have good metal, but the stocks and handrails could break if I shoot them.1 point

Give into temptation. I made my first TGO knife, the rock eye, my work knife and never regretted it. Sharp, sturdy and after who knows how many pallets worth of cutting tape, cardboard and of course, the dreaded pallet wrap, (amongst pretty much anything else I came across that needed cuttin, the protech is still in great shape. I did 'loose' it for several months in a recliner at my parents house, but that was my own fault for putting it loose in my pocket and not using the clip before settling into a nice nap and not checking for it when I got up. Those recliners are notorious for stealing stuff from pockets too. If I'm at my folks place and need a lighter, odds are very strong there will be one from my last visit just waiting for me. I'm in, had to miss at least one (two?) of the last few so I really need my blade fix.1 point

This argument/decision keeps raising it's head, even in these modern times. When I first joined we had select fire (auto and semi) M16s, then they came up with a select fire with semi and three round burst. Now, they have auto and semi again with the M4s, which took an upgrade to get rid of the three round burst. Here is my take on this; full auto is hard to control, but it's a good psychological tool, nobody wants to raise there head when someone is slinging all that lead at them. But precise controlled fire wins the day. I was not infantry, but unfortunately I had a few opportunities to return fire and in none of those cases did I even consider full auto. I can pull the trigger fast, fast enough to put at least three rounds per target in critical areas. In that same time frame, I would of wasted 10-15 rounds, at the same target. I have some training though, many soldiers did/do not; I seen many just let loose never knowing if they even hit anything. I am sure there are those with more experience than I that can effectively keep steel on target in full auto, but I don't think the average troop can do the same. The three round burst thing, well short answer is it sucked. It always shot three rounds per cycle, so if you let off after two, the next pull you would only get one then you had to release and pull again to get to the next three . At least with full auto, with practice, you could do the same thing in three, four, or five round bursts. As far as the civil war, if you could arm all your soldiers with M4s, and each man had a combat load, typically 210 rounds, and you could drum it into them to have ammo discipline then I do believe what ever side had that advantage would win. But, and that is a big one, there would eventually be a need for more ammo, so once engaged they would need to be quick and merciless collecting weapons and ammo along the way.1 point

Bought a new M&P Compact .45acp back last fall. HATED IT! Traded it for an .45 XDs and have zero regrets. The M&P had a horrible trigger.1 point

On the old system I could scroll to the bottom and got to the full website? Is this no longer an option? If not is there a way to manually enter an address in the subject line to get you there. I can't use this new system and really don't want to stop using the site from my mobile phone as that is where I primarily use it, but if there is no way then oh well I guess.1 point

If you couldn't take a scientist and a lab with you to manufacture smokeless powder, that M4 won't do you much good. if you think an AR is unreliable now, try it with blackpowder and cast bullets.1 point

Between this and finding the NSA metadata collection unconstitutional, Judge Leon is all right in my book.1 point

Super happy to see this. Like anything, they'll surely sell at retail for awhile. Looks like a $30 premium over MSRP for the regular 9 and 40 Shields right now. Wonder what holster compatability will be for the 9/40 shields vs this one.1 point

3.6 is a big difference even though it doesn't seem like it. when you look at the range of 3.6 min to 4.1 MAX that's only 0.5gr total between min and MAX. Titegroup is a pretty high energy powder and while not the easiest to start with because of that you also don't need to run near MAX all the time. I'm using 3.8 or 3.9 for my match loads and they run just fine. If the 3.6gr loads functioned OK then that's you r most economical load as its the least powder. It works out to about 150 more rounds per pound! if cash is tight that makes a difference for sure1 point

I'm equally jazzed about being able to finally buy wine in grocery stores. My buddy's company has the exclusive contract for Kroger in Tennessee. All of that stuff goes live on July 1st, so he's been pretty busy and will be for the next month or so. He appreciates your impending wine patronage.1 point

Ha! It's a rare and expensive material that takes decades and millions of chemical reactions to form, is literally solar-powered, and created by God himself. And it butt-strokes much better than cheap plastic.1 point

If you find one, be sure to let the rest of us Bellevue denizens know about it. I drive an hour each way to Gallatin Gun Club. There's the range out at Cheatham WMR I've never been as I've heard tales of how unsafe some of the inbred morons can be who like to frequent the place. It's a 45 minute drive. For 15 minutes more, I prefer to go to the much safer and usually empty GGC. Royal Range has a super nice facility and the people to match. It ain't cheap, and it's indoors, but it's the closest range that we have. Plus they're now a TGO sponsoring vendor. +1 to that!1 point

I'm glad to read about this one because I'd been planning on an XDs .45 I like the ergonomics of the Shield better. I believe I'll try and do some comparison so I can make an informed decision because either one are light weight pocket rockets.1 point

Depending on how bad the crack is, you can usually fix with just a good quality wood glue and a clamp.1 point

I built one at that price point last year with a PTAC upper. That is a good price. Almost worth buying another just to have. Which is what I said about my last one.1 point
