  2. We've had plenty of people ask about access to the forum from Tapatalk since upgrading to the new version of IPB. We also experienced some extreme difficulty in upgrading our software recently due to what the Invision Power Board company said was a problem with the 3rd party Tapatalk software. After carefully reviewing the log files and speaking with support again, we cannot confirm that their statement regarding Tapatalk being the culprit is accurate. Based on that discovery, I am re-enabling Tapatalk for TGO. You can once again access TGO from your mobile device using Tapatalk if you so desire. I would like to point out, however, that visiting TGO from your mobile web browser and not using Tapatalk is still preferred for several reasons, but we leave the decision of which to use up to you. These are the things we feel like you will be missing out on by using Tapatalk: Tapatalk only shows you what they want you to see. You will not have access to additional features or design elements that are part of the native IPBoard mobile access. Tapatalk does not support nor show you the Trader Feedback ratings of our members. Trader Feedback is a very important part of engaging in buy/sell/trade transactions with our members. It is akin to the feedback ratings on services like eBay or Gunbroker where you can see positive and negative remarks left by our members for our members. Tapatalk does not support our Chat feature. This has proven to be an extremely popular way for our members to interact with each other and we have plans to do "Hosted Chats" in the future at scheduled dates and times. You will not be able to participate in any of those things with Tapatalk. Tapatalk does not support the advanced Tags and Prefixes feature that allows our members to designate a thread as being an item For Sale, For Trade, For Free, Wanted or the designation of a local geographic "Rally Point" such as Chattanooga, Memphis, Knoxville, Nashville, Tri-Cities etc. Tapatalk does not support our Store feature. You must visit the site with your web browser to buy forum swag, Benefactor memberships, etc. Tapatalk will most likely not support any other additional features that we provide on the web site. Things like photo galleries, blogs, advanced buy/sell/trade options, special downloads, etc. Back to point #1 above, Tapatalk only shows you what Tapatalk wants you to see. Continuation of Tapatalk support is entirely provisional. If it presents a problem to the function or delivery of this site or our content again, it will be removed without warning. I appreciate that it is a convenience for our members and will endeavor to keep it available to you, but I cannot and will not allow it to be a defining technology for TGO. I hope that you understand and I appreciate your patience with us.

  3. We bailed early. We planned to stay all weekend, but I've been home since about 4:30 today. As was said above, mostly the same stuff as last year. 2 days was enough...Well, a day and a half with all that %$#*&^$$#$#%$#^^)#!@ Traffic! Overall, I was thoroughly unimpressed. While it's large enough, the KEC is not particularly nice, at least not the South Wing where the exhibit hall was held. Especially when compared to the Music City Center. The main concourses made me feel like I should be trying to get tickets to a RATT concert, circa 1988. Whichever retarded monkey humper thought that a two-lane street is enough to funnel traffic off of a 6-lane Interstate into a facility that can handle north of 100,000 people and co-located with a theme park should be forced to have Caster slam his nuts in a car door....repeatedly.....until Caster decides he'd rather go to Atlanta....which could be a while. Parking at KEC is NOT capable of handling an event that large. I was forced to park in the grass on Friday, but was fortunate enough to get out (4:30'ish) just before the mass exodus began and the grass turned into a mud hole. Tow truck drivers were busy for many hours getting people out. There's NOTHING nearby the KEC. Even the neighboring hotels aren't particularly walkable. Finally, Louisville as a city is kind of boring. There's not a lot downtown, and areas like Bardstown Rd. with good restaurants and bars are so spread out that you have to drive from place to place....where you can't find parking. Several folks at our hotel and more than a few vendors said many of the same things. Nashville was exceedingly better than this one. I hope this is the last one in Louisville. I can promise you it was mine.

  5. I am not super-excited about Atlanta next year and may skip the NRAAM in 2017 in exchange for going to SHOT. Having the NRAAM in Nashville last year spoiled me, to be honest. I think we have a far superior venue to the Kentucky Center in Louisville and our traffic isn't near as terrible, nor our downtown residents near as ghetto, as Atlanta. Yet.

  7. So I had a friend, who is very very liberal, post a KNS article about the new Hall Tax law that was passed and signed by Haslam. I replied that for me, as a business owner, a reduction in Hall Tax is not only fair, but better for me. Of course, another liberal who has no clue what he's talking about replied that what does the Hall Tax have to do with business owners? Well, only that most businesses in TN are stock based, so most businesses can pay out dividends to stock owners if it wishes. Since most small businesses are LLC's or Sub S, this is very important. Another great comment from this guy, "You don't create jobs, demand does." That's false because some businesses DO create jobs AND demand, not just meet demand (my business does both). Then he said that any smart accountant can get past the $1250 limit on the Hall Tax by simply paying out as a bonus. I pointed out that you'd still pay 15.2% FICA tax, federal income tax, state business & unemployement tax, and local business tax on that bonus. My wife also just pointed out that bonuses are actually taxed at a higher tax rate than your normal income tax rate, so it's a really bad idea to do it that way if you can pay out dividends. I honestly wonder if most people have any clue how businesses work at all. Do most employees understand that a business pays an extra 7.6% on all their wages? That they also pay another % in unemployement on all their wages? Or that many businesses pay a % for workers comp on all their wages? Or that a business pays tax on every single piece of equipment used in their business each year? Every machine, desk, computer, chair, etc. owned by the business. Roughly on every dollar a business pays an employee, the business spends at least another $.15-20 in taxes. People have no clue about any of this stuff. But hey, lazy people and those who keep making bad choices because they are not forced to make good choices need free stuff ya know?!

  15. How's your high school physics memory... Let me try this another way. Max allowable pressure is always constant right? Given that, then this is really just newton's law. It takes more energy to move a heavier object. Because your available energy is limited by the allowable pressure you have to lower the powder charge on heavier bullets to prevent going over the pressure limit. I'm ignoring some things like case volume and increased friction due to longer bearing surface. These have some effect on pressure, but the bullet weight change is the biggest reason for less powder. The hollow base on the berry's really just moves the center of gravity forward, kind of like a dart or shuttle cock. It won't have much if any effect on pressure. (No not much sleep lately I'm on a long commute from one homestead to the other)

  21. I have an 27 oz. (I think) ORCA now and I like it alot except it is sometimes hard to hold. I spoke with ORCA recently and was told that they will be offering handles very soon. I dont care really which ones you go after. Ill buy one of them with the TGO logo, probably in 20oz. That way I'll have a smaller one for coffee and a larger one for cold drinks. Like David, Ive noticed that these can be hard to handle, and I DO have large hands, lol. Im looking forward to the ORCA handles. Looking online I see that there are handles marketed to fit all of them, but I dont really like the looks of them, and Im waiting to see what the ORCA handles look like. If David's post of pictures above is what we need to vote on, Ill take a Rtic 20 oz. Edited to add: I just noticed that ORCA also offers a 20 oz Chaser Cafe, with a handle, made for coffee I think...

  23. In addition to the longer bullet reducing case capacity, it also has a larger bearing surface, which, in addition to the heavier weight, makes it more difficult to push down the bore. This will also cause higher pressure, which would require less powder to reach the same pressure level you're getting with the lighter bullet. Another anomaly I've found with shooting and reloading is that a heavier bullet from a handgun generally hits the target higher than a lighter bullet, while the heavier bullet in a rifle prints lower on the target than it's lighter counterpart. I believe the lighter bullet prints lower from a handgun because it leaves the barrel faster, before muzzle flip can raise the point of impact as much as with the heavier, slower projectile. This isn't as much of an issue with a rifle.

  24. Congrats on getting that key my friend! That's one less weekend I have to babysit! LOL To the best of my knowledge the extremely small additional space created by the hollowing base of a FMJ -type bullet is not significant enough to cause an appreciable pressure increase. What folks are addressing is that there is an initial fixed amount of available space once a bullet is friction set into a case. This initial space is where the pressure is generated and eventually overcomes the friction fit of the bullet, and following the path of least resistance drives the bullet down the barrel lowering the pressure...this all probably wasn't necessary to say, I'm just trying to make sure I'm clear in what I'm saying/thinking. That said, some of my loads have compressed powders...ie 5.7 grs of Unique under a 115 gr 9mm bullet. There is generally a few unburned grains of Unique that escape the barrel..this is normal for powders in that burn rate and shape (flaked). Small ball powders like AA#2, W231/HP-38 and Titegroup require much less volume to generate the required appropriate pressure to send the bullet along it's path. As has been stated the OAL is critical, not just for proper placement of the bullet relative to the throat of the barrel, but in order to allow the appropriate amount of space within the brass in order for the the correct amount of pressure to be generated.Seating too long of a bullet (ie perhaps a heavier weight bullet) too deep...reducing the available space.. allows too much pressure to occur... late signs in overpressure include but are not limited to flattening of primers, blown primers (path of least resistance thing), split brass etc. Too little powder, from my understanding, can cause a detonation within the chamber. I have not seen this myself. But I have blown up a nice Glock 21 in 45 acp with a double charge of W231...this was nearly 2 decades ago and I haven't had a double charge since...yet.. Do you have a chronograph yet my friend? They really help in safe load development. More powder doesn't mean a more accurate load, but loading within the published guidelines allows safe load development. While I have used powders outside of their "normal" published loads during the past few years of powder shortages, I approached the load development with caution and trepidation, and received help both here at TGO and from the powder companies themselves. Well I hope I've adequately muddied the waters and that others will straighten my mess out! Keep up the good work K!

  25. There is also a relationship between bullet weight, powder charged pressure. The cartridge will only safely handle a specific pressure. Given the same powder charge a heavier bullet will develop higher pressure. Just the higher weight and longer bearing surface will cause pressure to rise. Like bowling balls... yes are all the same dimension, but heavier ones are harder to throw at the same speed.

  26. Hey bud, to follow up on Patton: There's less less case capacity because the heavier bullet is longer. Thus, the bullet is seated deeper to meet OAL. Because the bullet is seated deeper, less powder can fit in the case. However, because there is less space for powder, there is a smaller volume for combustion to occur. Smaller volume for combustion = higher pressure. Furthermore, even though the heavier bullet starts off slower, because it has a greater mass, it will carry more momentum. Therefore, the 124 grain bullet will have similar penetration and expansion as 115 or 147 grain. Give me a call if you'd like me to elaborate.

  27. I agree. I would also like to add that there were a TON of choices for food and places to sit in Nashville. We had a huge outdoor area! We were lucky to even get a seat to eat the overpriced slop. We're close enough walk but decided to take a cab in today since it was raining. Damn cabby asked if he could run to the bathroom and left the meter running! Then when we called him on it he commented "oh, you want me to reset it?" We were at almost $5 and hadn't moved.

  31. For cast lead bullets, most use the same alloy, the same molds, and the same machines for casting. Some just do a better job of QC and some let you select the correct size for YOUR guns. Someone will like every one of the companies and someone will complain about every one of the companies. 1) Look for some place close that you can drive to and visit. 2) mastercastbullets.com, Missouri Bullets, Penn Bullets have been my choices for years. 3) For coated, I haven't found any better than Precision Bullets (Kemp, TX?). Work perfect. They are swaged and VERY consistent in weight and dimensions. For Bullseye competition, I use Precision Bullets or Zero swaged lead bullets, as they are the most accurate I have found. 4) Check out prices at Precision Delta and learn that you really can afford excellent jacketed bullets--particularly for 9mm and .38. Order 2000 and you may pay less than plated and many cast bullets.

  34. Having just finished a course with Tom Givens, I'm pretty sure he would call BS on the gun firing by itself. He has investigated hundreds of shootings and simply states guns don't go off sitting in a drawer, shelf, table or holster without some outside interference. Dropping a modern firearm would also be very improbable for an AD unless someone grabbed for it. Not saying 'never' as it is a mechancical device, but given the tremendous number of firearms handled every day......unlikely.

  39. This is why I carry concealed. No one in the Cheesecake Factory is going to know I'm carrying, so no need to unholster/reholster.    EDITED: It's also why I don't carry a Glock, but that's another story. It's an excellent gun as long as steps are taken to keep Murphy out of the equation.
