  1. My day started with a visit to TGO around 6:15AM right about which time the forum decided to puke because of a corrupt search index. I worked on that until I absolutely had to walk out the door and head to my job, and then worked on it a bit more for another hour or so between meetings, to get it back online. At one point I literally had to completely obliterate the forum database and restore it from a backup I took right before the outage occurred (premonition???) and even then it looked it it wasn't going to come back online. We've only been around since 2007 and have 25,000+ members and several million posts and private messages. All of which flashed before my eyes a few times while trying like hell to get it to work again. But hey! Here we are! Go, technology! I swear I might become Amish and swear this stuff off one of these days. Until then, there's beer. How was your day?

Between this and finding the NSA metadata collection unconstitutional, Judge Leon is all right in my book.

  4. Reagan tried to do a similar assault weapons ban like Clinton did but he could not get it. Reagan was a great president but was a horrible gun advocate. He openly wanted to do away with "assault weapons" but the true Republicans kept that from happening. But the 1986 MG ban, which Reagan signed, opened the door for the AW ban by Clinton. And 99% of the California gun restrictions are from when Reagan was governor. And because of that most of the gun restrictions on a national level are based on California's restrictions. Because of that I consider Reagan no friend of gun owners. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulford_Act http://theweek.com/articles/582926/how-ronald-reagan-learned-love-gun-control BTW, the NRA supported a lot of the gun restrictions Reagan passed in California.

  6. Folks, this sucks and there's no way to sell it any differently. In order to correct a problem that manifested this morning related to our software upgrade last week, I am having to rebuild the search index for TGO. This process takes about 3-5 days to complete. My best guess is that it will be done some time late Friday evening. While this process runs, some of the search features will not work as expected. Namely... The search for New Content / Activity Streams will only show new posts and threads from right now, forward, until the index rebuilds. Once it rebuilds, it will show new content from prior to this moment. Think of it as "temporary amnesia" for the forums. It'll know all of the new stuff it meets between now and when it finishes, but it will not know the old friends from prior. Give it time and it'll start to remember. Likewise searching for content of any sort prior to this moment will be hit-or-miss until the index is rebuilt. I know we just went through all of this last weekend but there was a problem of some sort that finally reared its ugly head this morning and caused our outage. I was able to work around it, but we've got to square off and face this ugly bit of work for a few days to get to a better place. Please bear with us and accept my apologies for the inconvenience. If there were any other way, I'd have taken it.

  7. David, Next time you make fun of me for not having a smartphone, and my hatred of computers, I will remind you of May 17, 2016. Amish sounds just about right. I was thinking just yesterday of retiring in a log cabin, without Internet, TV, computers, all that technology junk. What bliss that would be. Sorry you had a bad day. Plan for the day you can leave all this IT crud behind! There is light at the end of the tunnel! (unless it's an approaching train...). Up until such time, we do appreciate you suffering for us to make TGO possible! Cheers!

  9. Then you don't understand the second amendment. The second amendment exists to make sure that the people are always as equally armed (or at least have the right to be) as the state. So that when the state crosses the line, the people have an adequate defense.

  10. Genuine question, if that's not a significant impediment to the 2nd, what is? We'll have to agree to disagree on the stance on Reagan

  11. Yep. When Abe first saw Janet Reno, it turned him gayer than Little Richard.

  13. And I agree with him, nobody NEEDS an AK47, we WANT an AK47 and we should be able to have an AK47. Besides, many here would not own an AK if they had a Ma Deuce.

  14. If your SKS was originally made for a 10 round fixed magazine, please don't keep the myth alive that there is a simple adapter part that will allow a steel AK mag that is 1.015" wide at the top into a SKS receiver mag well that is only .970" wide. Now if you have a SKS M or SKS D model, both of those models have their mag wells machined to accept the thicker AK magazines from the factory. Maybe that is what you have.

  15. I have alway thought the original 10 round fixed magazine was the best. Nothing else in my experience comes close.

  26. I had two MobileMinis for a couple years and liked them. I felt my stuff was secure but the things I found to be a problem that were not mentioned above (I don't think was mentioned). 1) bottom is made out of wood. With that being said, it's not going to keep mice or snakes or other creepy crawling things out. Side note: Was told it has a wood floor so they sink when they fall off ships. Must happen a lot. Was told by a ship captain that. Captain said they don't want large metal "bobbers" floating around in the ocean. 2) although there is a lot of room, what you put in the back is going to be buried in there when you want to use it. Unless it's just used for long term storage. 3) hot summers in Tennessee will make it literally rain inside the unit unless you are in and out every day. Trapped moisture will build up fast and it will eventually turn into condensation/rain with cool nights and hot days. My unit was on prepped ground and 4x4's. Probably better to be on a slab, less ground moisture. 4) with number 3 being said stuff inside rusts or molds really really fast. I would still use one but my mission for one would have to be very specific.

  27. Yeah, I hated to, but I just paid .34/round delivered for Hornady 30g. I bought 500 rounds just to have a little extra laying around. I figured $14 local, plus tax is $15.30. By the time I drive around to get a box here or there, I would probably have the $17/box (inc shipping) I paid in it. Glad I bought a fair amount back when it was $10/box. I still don't have as much as I would like, but I know I have more than most.

  30. I like the new site! I liked the previous one too (and the one before that). Each change required an adjustment period. Anytime a good website changes, it's hard to adjust to the changes at first, but soon it will feel like home again. I didn't like TapaTalk. I uninstalled it a long time ago and just used the full-site view on my phone. I felt like I missed content with TT. Most of the time I visit from my iPad anyway. I'm happy I can use emoticons on my iPad now. They wouldn't work for me before without typing the code.

  33. Not to mention his all out ban on newly created machine guns. Ill never understand the the fanaticism when it comes to Reagan. He did more damage singlehandedly to the 2nd then Clinton and Obama combined.

  34. A couple of clamps later, I'm using the TriWay Cutter vertically. Haha! I can trim, chamfer, and deburr about 500 rounds an hour with this thing. Not bad! I did find out, though, that I can only do 30 carbine with their big setup, not with this one. That was a bit of a bummer. If I start shooting enough 30 carbine, though, I'll probably buy one. Don't know that I will just yet, though. I also ordered another 5 lbs of pins so I can do more brass at once. I have collected a few more pounds of 380 and 223 recently that I need to decap and clean. Hopefully I can get those done this week. Brandon

  39. These arrived today!!! :D These are the RTIC 30oz and the Orca 27oz tumblers. I just ordered a 20oz Yeti and a 20oz Orca to compare. These 30oz and 27oz models will hold a LOT of beverage!

  40. With the help of another friend I think I've decided on a lever action 30-30. Going to start my search for a decent used one. Seems to be the best of both worlds and doesn't look all tactical in case I need it for a worst case scenario. I liked what one guy said on another thread "don't look like the bad guy". And the lever gun would be a good woods gun as well and deer rifle if needed.

  41. [quote name="Wingshooter" post="1367265" timestamp="1458104197"]The older ones are best. I haven't checked the used prices lately, but there's always a couple at the pawn shop. I picked up a 336 from a pawn shop in Jackson a few months ago for $250 out the door. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

  42.   Yep.   Im going to stick to my AK or 300 BO suggestion.    I respect a skilled lever gun shooter in a "situation".   It takes a lot of practice,  but don't sell it short either.   I would rather have the higher capacity and faster semi-auto, of course.   My advice in these situations is to sit on it.    I see this a lot -- "I have $500 to spend what can it get".   Now, 500 might get you what you want, and if so, that is awesome.   If you are drooling after something that costs 750 ... sit on it until you have 750.    Or get the gun now and the optic for Christmas.    The point is to remove the budget restriction from the equation.  If you had 2500 bucks in hand today, right now, what would you buy to put in your truck?  Answer that one, and then see if its a workable goal in a workable timeframe.   And don't forget used ... that 750 gun new might fall into your hands for 600, 500 used if you find one.

  43. The older ones are best. I haven't checked the used prices lately, but there's always a couple at the pawn shop.    Yeah, they balance really well. I kept a winchester 94 in 30-30 in my truck for a long time. One of my favorite deer rifles is a Marlin 336 in 35 remington with a fixed 4 power Nikon scope. A 30-30 is much better for ammo availablity though.

  46. Yup, quickly accurate on COM to 150 yards or more with just cheek weld with iron sights, plenty of velocity with 5.56 out of 10.5" barrel or even shorter with softpoints or other expanding bullets, with 20-30 quick chances too. :) Can do it for 'bout same price as a Glock, so if stolen it's not the worst financial blow. Also, can legally carry it outside the vehicle in TN in normal times if necessary, and do it quite gray man if you keep it in something like this: Here's mine, lives in the above racquet case behind the seat in my toy truck: - OS
