  2.       Same for me and the TR4 and Magic. :(   I'll definitely be in on this one though, the godfather is too damn sweet. Hopefully we can keep the amount of TGO knifes to a minimum this year, that way I can eat more than ramen noodles AND get back into the group buys consistently. :P

  3. I was listening to the "Guns and Leather" radio show (99.7) tonight, Sunday, April 17th, 2016 and was shocked at what is going on in the Nashville area. If anyone can get a transcript of the last part of the show and post it, that would be great. It would help others understand how an anti-gun, New York company is trying to undermine the integrity of our firearm industry locally.   They can't buy firearms being out of state. Apparently, they are getting anti-gun locals to do it for them. The objective is to make up a video which portrays them walking in, buying AR-15s and a hunting rifle, and walking out minutes later. After the massive lies and smear tactics footage is shot, the New York company wants the rifles destroyed, locally. I guess they don't want them to be called in as evidence, in case this sham backfires on them.   They called, and hired, Guns and Leather to destroy these brand new, in the box, guns! Guns and Leather did not know what was going on, until they asked some questions and did some research. Maybe we can get Phil Valentine to do a special show, outing these New York scumbags for the anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment, haters they are. In good ole western movie lingo, they are trying to frame us or to set us up in the worst light.   They need to be exposed. Someone, please contact the people that can expose these lying/scamming New Yorkers. Thanks.

  4. This joke contains no politics, no race, no swearing… and yet I laughed so hard tears ran down my face. Best Joke I’ve read in years.   As a guitarist, I play many gigs. Recently I was asked by a funeral director to play at a graveside service for a homeless man. He had no family or friends, so the service was to be at a pauper’s cemetery in the back country. As I was not familiar with the backwoods, I got lost. I finally arrived an hour late and saw the funeral guy had evidently gone and the hearse was nowhere in sight. There were only the diggers and crew left and they were eating lunch. I felt badly and apologized to the men for being late. I went to the side of the grave and looked down and the vault lid was already in place. I didn’t know what else to do, so I started to play. The workers put down their lunches and began to gather around. I played out my heart and soul for this man with no family and friends. I played like I’ve never played before for this homeless man. And as I played ‘Amazing Grace,’ the workers began to weep. They wept, I wept, we all wept together. When I finished I packed up my guitar and started for my car. Though my head hung low, my heart was full. As I opened the door to my car, I heard one of the workers say, “I never seen nothin’ like that before and I’ve been putting in septic tanks for twenty years.” Apparently, I’m still lost…

  8. Don't expect "Hollywood" reactions to being shot with a pistol...ANY pistol . If you shoot someone you may well have to shoot them several times with a handgun to change their channel. Some people are just tough SOBs and will not stop fighting until they are dead. Plan accordingly.

  9. Trust me when I say she can COOK. Can't wait to make good on the offer to cook Jaeger Schnitzel for those that helped me out a few weeks ago. It benefits me just as much as those that helped because we do not normally cook good German food. If she did I would look like a giant bowling ball with arms and legs.   She was the one that pushed me to make my first silencer. She has been bugging me to buy a machine gun but they are now out of my reach. As soon as I announced I bought a 50 BMG her first words were "I am going to shoot it". She knows how to bumpfire and still giggles when anyone else does it. Here is another reason why I love her so much. https://www.facebook.com/petra.revels/videos/10206129312926669/?autoplay_reason=ugc_default_allowed&video_container_type=0&app_id=2392950137 No too many women get excited about shooting machine guns.   I would not want anyone else by my side during the best, and worst, of times.

  12. I like the handwritten note and maybe some flowers.    Does she have grandkids?  Do you have little kids?   We have the sweetest little old lady for a neighbor.  She lives in a converted detached garage next to her daughter's house.  She loves my kids.  I send them over to visit Ms. Edith pretty regularly.  She beams when talking about them (and boy can she talk.... :D ), fawns all over them, and makes them cookies and such regularly.  Even though her daughter lives 100ft away, she gets lonely being by herself.  Her daughter is very nice and takes good care of her, but the daughter's husband was recently confined to a wheelchair, so she's got that to deal with too.  I do little stuff around the house for her... I fixed a lamp, hung a picture...    My point is, sometimes all they want is a little company.  5 minutes of conversation can make their day.

  15. Man, does that bring back a memory.  Back sometime in the mid 60’s, we had a young cook on the boat that was madly in love with a little gal back home so he got her name tattooed on his arm. I can’t remember the name so I’ll just go with Susan. Well dear Susan sent him the famous “Dear John” letter and he was heartbroken. After about a week of seeing him moping and feeling sorry for himself I decided to approach him. That night I suggested we go to town so he could get a tattoo on his other arm that said Linda. His words: “I don’t have a girlfriend named Linda”. My response was “you don’t have one named Susan either but you have the name on your arm”.    After a few minutes of him trying to flail on my body he finally saw the humor in it. It actually straightened him out and he was back to his normal self.   BTW, congratulations on the 25.

  16. Back in Feb, my water line at my Refrigerator broke. Not a freeze but broke due to age.   Anyways, I was a few days getting it fixed and all the leaks stopped.    In the meantime I brought a Zero Water, 23 cup pitcher to use for drinking water.  I knew it was more expensive but I liked what i read about the filter.   The first drink of water from it was so different it took me a little to get used to it, but loved it. I have been filtering the city water for years, but this was a world of difference. I used the meter it came with and tested my house water and it came back around 120 to 170.  Under 220 is considred OK i believe.  Not even sure what the tester detects as I can only tell it seem to test to see how much current can pass though a given amount of water.  More dissolved solids, the higher the count I believe.  These might be good solids and may not be harmful as was pointed out in a previous post.   From the filter, I got 000.    I tested it regular for the first month, 000, once I saw a 001, but a moment later same glass of water went to 000.   I tested it last week and it still came up 000.   Yesterday it was fine. Today it tasted like old pond water/fishy.    Tested it, it came up at 170   When I poured it out, my wife commented on just how bad it stunk up the bathroom.   I checked, I brought it on Feb 13th and the filter lasted until April 16th.    I figured the filter would have lasted longer running city water though it, guess not all that long.  filters aren't cheap.  4 pack at Amazon is 49.00 plus tax.    cheaper in bulk at least       from Zero water https://www.zerowater.com/troubleshooting.aspx   Q. Odor: Fishy smell A. Most customers do not notice an odor from their filter, so it is likely that the general make up of your water is different than most. When the filter is used up, this can cause the smell. It is very important that you regularly test your water to be sure it reads 000 to prevent this in the future.     Had I found the following review before buying it i might not have brought it.   https://cutelypoisoned.com/tag/fishy-smell/     In closing, I expected the filter to start getting worse over time instead of a sudden, unexpected change

  17. http://personalliberty.com/taxpayer-advocate-warns-taxes-could-kill-the-2nd-amendment/   “The Left is now seeking to tax guns out of existence,” Norquist said. “The Second Amendment makes it difficult to legally ban guns, but Hillary has led the way to explaining you can achieve the same thing with high taxes.” Clinton has passionately endorsed the implementation of a 25 percent across the board sales tax on firearms in addition to Obama administration attempts to raise the cost to legally sell firearms to $2,500. “Under the Obama-Clinton model, the cost of selling your best friend a $400 shotgun will be $2,900,” said Norquist."   - K

  19. Late to the party on the after action report, but this was a fantastic class. I was extremely impressed with the breadth of the subject matter, ranging from fundamentals of pistol shooting and drawing from a holster, perpetrator motivating psychology and personal safety strategies, some unarmed combat, shooting on the move, to using the flashlight as both a tool on its own and as a shooting aid.  It was a jam-packed class brimming with juicy concepts and practical tips, and well worth the price of admission.   Two surprises for me:   1) The blinding power of even a basic "tac" light is impressive and an effective tool, as clearly-demonstrated in this class. Anyone concerned with personal safety should carry one.   2) Things I'd read about dealing with blinding effect of muzzle flash in the dark were pretty much universally misleading. Muzzle flash was not much an issue for vision.   Randy runs an excellent, well-organized class, and instructs with insight and humor making for a very informative and entertaining experience. Moreover, he exhibits a great deal of patience and courtesy with low-skill students like myself, which is greatly appreciate by us Private Pyles. I'd highly recommend this class to anyone who carries or might carry a firearm, day or night. Great class, great value.

  21. Look into the .460rowland and even the .45super. .45super is just a .45acp with a stronger case and loaded to higher velocity. .460 Rowland is a slightly longer case and even higher velocity (at commercial .44mag velocities!) but still fits in a 1911 or other .45acp magazine. Very strong over built .45acp pistols like the HK USP and the HK45 can handle super loads from the factory, 1911s only require a stronger recoil spring. Buffalo bore makes the ammo as well as others. Can load up to a 255 gr hard cast or maybe higher.

  24.     Right, I think the issue here is that the money is given to buy the gun "for you" not "for them".  If the gun is destroyed before it leaves the state, how is it illegal.  Yes, you are performing a task with someone else's money, but if the firearm is never transferred or is never intended to be transferred, is it still illegal?      If Michael Bloomberg sends me $550 in the mail with the stipulation that I buy a Glock and melt it down, is that illegal.
    1 point
  25.     The term itself aside, ATF considers any purchase from FFL where a person gives you the money up front to buy it for him illegal, whether that person can legally own firearms or not.   See 4473 for specific example between legal "gift" and illegal purchase for someone else.   Note that this recently went all the way to SCOTUS at least regarding lying on the 4473 (the cop who bought a firearm for his brother in another state, even though it was transferred in that other state through a FFL).   - OS

  28. I just got my trust recently, so I'm about to order one. I'm leaning YHM Phantom Ti 7.62 QD or their ULT model. The ACC SDN6 is also very tempting, but I prefer the YHM QD mounting system. Those are the ones I have found in stock. The Phantom Ti is slightly larger but rated to 300WM. The other two are rated to 308. I would get the ULT, but I have a 30-06 I thought about threading. Just trying to decide if it's even worth it to suppress 30-06. This is primarily for my 300bo anyway

  31. Enlightening article barewoolf, thanks for posting this.   I too read this article before and there are some lessons to be learned indeed. Primarily... as Randy has previously said "handguns suck" as defensive tools (I agree 100%)...but they are very likely to be "the" tool we have when things go down.   With quality modern handgun ammunition the caliber question isn't as significant as it once was. Having seen the wounds from most handgun calibers I can honestly say it's nearly impossible to tell what caliber someone was hit with...skin is very elastic and the majority of entrance wounds are very tiny holes...The terminal effect is dependent on the structure damaged and the persons response to it. Unless it's a CNS hit (the "brainbox"), people take a loooong time to bleed out enough to affect their level of consciousness.   From the article"In this free-for-all, the assailant had, in fact, been struck 14 times. Any one of six of these wounds — in the heart, right lung, left lung, liver, diaphragm, and right kidney — could have produced fatal consequences…“in time,” Gramins emphasizes."   Statistically "average gunfights" are close range and end in 3-5 rounds from what I read...I couldn't imagine any gunfight being "average" nor would I count on any statistical data. While I could never envision myself carry 145 rounds of ammo, I can certainly understand why this officer would want to consider having more rounds available in his future! fwiw...I don't think it's totally a "spray & pray" scenario in this case, the officer was getting some good hits...the BG just didn't choose to stop his attack...there are some determined evil people out there...and from FOF training I've learned to appreciate that a moving twisting "target", under pressure, is a challenge to get good solid hits on...and that's only with SIMS rounds coming at me.   This is another good point: "Gramins, also empty, escaped his squad — “a coffin,” he calls it — and reloaded on his run to cover behind the passenger-side rear of the Bonneville.   Mobility and good cover. Not that an auto body is "good cover", but it would beat the heck out of sitting still and taking incoming rounds.   Just a few thoughts/observations and opinions ...

  32. As I mentioned in this thread, I use a Lee Hand Press, which is adequate for my small needs. It can get to be bit awkward at certain stages of the reloading process. I Googled DIY stands for the Hand Press, and I found one that a guy was selling, but no instructions. So I made my own. I can use the stand for each stage of the reloading process. For resizing and decapping, which takes the most force, it does strain the clamp. It works with the stand, but it works better using two hands--one to brace the press and one to move the ram. For all other steps of reloading (at least for 9 mm and .223), and I can work the ram while it is clamped to the stand one-handed. I just thought I would share some pictures in case anyone else needed a similar solution. The blocks of wood have the magnets from a hard drive glued to them. The magnets hold the clamp in place, but not with enough strength to hold against the force of working the ram. The clamp has enough force to keep everything together. Yes, I realize that a single stage press would be more efficient, but I already had the Hand Press, and if I choose not to use the stand, I can resize while sitting in the living room, watching a movie. The stand is especially useful for priming and bullet seating, which, when using the Hand Press normally, requires a bit of coordination between your two hands and your lap so that you don't drop a component. The bag of cartridges are the .223 that I did this way over the weekend.

  43. Here's a good story that rattles me up. So I live about 1.5 hours from Johnson City Mtn Home hospital. But they won't send me there because they say I'm an employee there, (I'm not.) So they make my appointments in Nashville, 4 hrs away. While fighting the VA over me not working there. I asked them if I could get a choice card since YOU, the VA are sending me 4 hrs away. Well nope, can't get a choice card because I live 1.5 hours away from a full hospital. WTF is wrong with these people.

  44. A story in the NRA's American Hunter got me thinking, not so much about shooting turkey in flight which is what the story is mainly about, but about the quote below:     I honestly never thought about  doing that, mainly because if the dove were wounded it usually goes down and I go in to retrieve and dispatch it.  The ones that I have shot at and got nothing but feathers seemed to be not wounded so didn't pay much attention to them afterward.  Specially considering that when I go to clean them up many only have one or two pellets in them.  So what are your thoughts on this practice; do you count the wounded ones and if so how do you tell? I haven't seen anything in the Regs about this but have seen something where you could not keep bass smaller than 15" even if they are likely to die (swallowed hook) so you had to put them back.  BTW its been quite some time since I got into a good dove field so if you have one...

  45. So.....studying THIS event is not of any merit?...but studying fights pre 1900 is where it is at? Your post is somewhat confusing.....while I too find studying ALL gunfights I can get reliable info on no matter what the era useful,  there is not any more value to studying something pre 1900 than something that happened in 1986. So I'm not sure exactly the point you are trying to make.   For that matter a horse probably will get you where you want to go...but  an automobile is far more efficient. And prior to 1940 there was no more reliable method of testing for diabetes than tasting the patient's urine....but no sane doctor is still gargling piss in 2016.    But maybe you're right...maybe we should dismiss those folks who have spent a majority of their life actually educating themselves in all manner of armed and unarmed conflict, scientific method research, modern understanding of anatomy with regards to terminal ballistics, and running the gun at the ragged edge of human ability.... and instead simply read a book about the old west.........

  46. $450 for a damaged Mosin?  I'm just not that big of a fan.  There are a boat load of better guns out there for that kind of money.  They were cool when they were $70 and a spam can with 440 rounds was $80.  Those days are gone.  Mosins are the bottom of the barrel and crude, I'f I'm going to pay what it costs to shoot them I'm going to shoot something that I enjoy more.
