Giving away rights to increase the value of a unconstitutional government permission slip is the reason we're not father along in repealing these bad laws today... I'm all for incremental progress, and using the permit system as a backdoor to allowing more people to go armed more places is just fine... But, we as 2nd Amendment supports shouldn't be giving ammo to the opposition... Our current permit system is worthless, the ONLY thing it accomplishes is prevent otherwise law abiding adults from being able to protect themselves. We've come a long way in the last couple of years, you can now carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle... We should be pushing to turn the permit into nothing more than a license for those who want to carry in less free states... anything more than that results in more parasites (government workers) living off of the rest of us.3 points

He is a good friend. Also gave me his dad's MEC Sizemaster to use for a while. They used to shoot skeet and trap as a family and they would spend the off season loading for when they were shooting. He said he has 5 gallon buckets of stuff they loaded so he wouldn't need it for a while. I'm working on filling a few buckets my self and then we will probably trade that thing back and fourth. It does pass the sniff test.. It has a very pleasant gun power smell. :)2 points

If you reload odd ball calibers, cost is signifant over factory loads. I have an old 41 Colt and the only way to shoot is to load for it. Small calibers .32 and .380 are also two that are cheaper to reload than factory ammo. I also cast and load in the pistol calibers .357 mag,.38special, 38 s&w,9 mm., 32, 380,45 colt,45 acp,44 mag,. revolver. With powder coating and hi-tek coatings cast bullets are as good as jacketed bullets. My advice , if you are young and want to have a lifetime of shooting and plinking, start collecting brass, lead, primers powder. My .22 's and .17 HMR are the only guns I have to buy ammo for.I buy jacketed bullets for my .223 and 7mm mag rifle, but you can cast and shoot lead in just about any caliber if you want too. Most straight walled brass will last a very long time if you take care of it and don't over flare and over crimp. Annealing makes rifle brass long lasting also. You can also use black powder in a lot of straight walled pistol and rifle brass. You can make your own black powder if it becomes necessary. Unless you are independentally wealthy, most folks have to work to earn money to support their shooting habits, Any time spent casting and reloading is more enjoyable to me than working to buy ammo. Your lifestyle may not be suited to do this, but this fits my lifestyle very well.2 points

I don't reload to save money. I reload to get more accurate ammo. Unless you are shooting thousands of rounds a year, there is not really a payback.2 points

We moved our family to Gallatin recently (last June), and I am finally starting to spend most of my time in the area. I am the Director of Product Development and Engineering for Beretta USA (relatively new, just shy of two years) and we are just starting to ramp up in our new facility in Gallatin. Happy to be out of the DC area for sure! I hit the TN Action Pistol shoot this past Wednesday (Feb 3rd) and had quite a bit of fun. Didn't do so great, but I didn't cause any "incidents" so that is a good start. Met a bunch of nice people, and look forward to continuing that when I can, and poking around the forums.1 point

I have a bunch of reloading equipment, its mostly Lee though I have a smattering of RCBS, Hornady etc. I started reloading in the mid 80's, then it was cheaper to reload for me because I shot my 9mm and .40 almost every weekday 1 box ea at lunchtime and more on weekends, . I have dies for every caliber I shoot, and since I started trading and upgrading I have a few duplicates. So far, 9mm and 5.56 has been the only calibers that I could honestly say I could not reload cheaper at times. But those sales are far and few between, specially since I have collected a bunch of brass. When I get a new to me caliber, I try and get all the reloading gear with it, currently it's the .277 Wolverine. I got the dies, gauge and barrel in one order, and since it is almost the same process of the 300 Blackout, the saw and jig I used for that will probably work too. There are two sources for loaded rounds, but I prefer to do my own due to cost and control over QC. For trimming I have three ways, one is the Lee hand held, best cheapest way to do it. Using a drill to chuck the universal 3 jaw chuck make trimming quite effortless, I also got two bench trimmers, a Lyman and a Forster. The Lyman is setup for my rifle rounds, .270 and 30-06, .303 etc. The Forster I just got to do neck turning to try and get a more precise case on my .308 and .277, maybe even use some of those "bad" headstamped 300 Blk cases to chamber well. All this to say that once you start reloading, it becomes a hobby in its own right. Right now I probably have more ammo and components than I will ever get to shoot and plan on doing more once I get my casting setup going again...yea, another hobby.1 point

The porcupine doesn't survive because he eats bears. He survives because an injured bear is just food for someone else. Like Randy said, I try to train for King Kong, but I am realistic. I am no match for Randy w/ a firearm or Spots w/ my hands. All I can say is this: if someone FORCES me to respond, they better be all in. I will be. If I can avoid, I will. If I can escape, I will. If I have no choice, I will be the porcupine. To "Todd" I would only say "I don't want any trouble w/ you or anyone else. You can no doubt "take" me. But, what's it worth to you?"1 point

I saw this on another site and was shaking my head. While I don't think it's an indication that the officer was enthusiastic about killing people (not by itself anyway), I do think it shows a lack of judgement and maturity on his part...so much so I'd question if he has the judgement and maturity to be a police officer in the first place. If I'm the one prosecuting him, it's a line I'd pursue for the charges at hand. Also, there is a failure of management in allowing something like that to be on a weapon used for official purposes. I don't care if it was incompetence, apathy, or approval, on the part of the officers supervisory chain, any reason is unacceptable.1 point

I did not know the orginal lyrics poster Sebastian. But I did post it because people do need to think about worst case. Yeah hopefully it'll be Fred the crackhead or whatever. But training for the worst makes anything else an improvement. And learning what you can do with your own physical ability is a huge part of that. My dad is fond of saying "I'm to old to fight and too crippled to run". He's 63, has two bad knees, a bad shoulder and a bkdy worn out by a life time of brutal work. I would still very much count him as one of the most dangerous men I know in a confrontation. Mental as well as physical training can mean the difference between life and death. My training doesn't define me or run my life, but it is a large part of my life, because I've found a way to make it enjoyable instead of being a grind that I dread doing. Martial arts several times a week, hiking or ruck in a pack while walking with my wife for daily walks. Dry firing while watching TV. Practicing knife techniques by just "playing" with my edc fixed blade when I have down time. Small habits can lead to big results. I hope nobody here ever has to face a confrontation. And if you do I hope it's the skinny crackhead wo pisses himself when he sees a knife or gun. But to immediately underestimate your opponent because you think he's a druggie or just some street thug can be a very bad idea. Prag I'll definitely PM you when I do my next class. I'll be setting one up soon, and hopefully everyone can make it. One last thing. It was drilled into me early and often. Don't ever quit. No matter how bad your beaten, how bad it hurts, etc. Don't ever quit. A man with both his legs broke who is laying in the street still calling you a dirty son of a bitch might be hurt, but he isn't beaten. Refusing to quit and to give up can be one of the biggest differences in surviving a violent confrontation. Sent from behind the anvil1 point

Member of the Family. Where's the box for "Alternative Child Choice"?!? LOL My friends sadly hit a dog yesterday. There's a house by us that has a ton of dogs all loose and they always run into the road. My friend was cautious but one was determined. They rushed it to the vet for care. Covered in blood they went back to inform the owner and they non-chalantly just said "it was bound to happen, did you put her down"? Needless to say my friends are now paying a lot of money for a new dog. I told her to name it Lucky and she said she was naming her Xena. I didn't have the heart to tell her she's a lesbian in the reboot they're planning.1 point

I was in an MOS where a pistol was issued as part of the MTOE. We got minimal training on pistol marksmanship and zero combat handgun training. Personally, I think the entire military is long over due for a complete change in marksmanship and combat weapons training.1 point

For me, it comes down to what will be the dogs quality of life if it is successful. Even if it is successful, can he lead a fairly normal, active life. He is very young, so age isn't really a factor for me in a decision like this. Only you can say if you can afford it. I have spent thousands on my dogs in the past, but I was fortunate it wouldn't keep me from making the house payment and I am single and they have been my kids. Almost all vets will work out a payment plan as well. If I was fairly certain they knew what the problem was and were confident it could be fixed (more accurately, managed) by surgery, I would do it. If I wasn't 80% sure, as much as I would hate to, I would probably euthanize the dog. Not so much because of the money, but the fact that I wasn't convinced the dog wouldn't suffer. It's heart wrenching I know.1 point

A J-Frame Smith either OWB or pocket carry. I have had several of my fellow HCP holders explain to me that I stand no chance against the ISIS battle group that inevitably assaults my neighborhood Walmart. Whereas, they with their neato double column semi-autos will be able to save the day by taking out the entire ISIS organization with two extra magazines of 9MM. This is based on their combat experience at some neat school at some pistol range. I spent a total of 60 months in combat in VietNam (4 Tours) with the USMC so I am in no position to question their superior logic. I only need 5 shots to shoot the dumb SOB that goes looking for me and finds my hiding place.1 point

Well, the SMK is an HPBT. But I am sure there are other HPBT's out there. SMK's are definitely match proven. From what I understand, the 175 is a better choice for 1000 yard because in most guns, the bullet will still be supersonic at that distance whereas the 168's may be transonic.1 point
