  1. Maybe I should have posted this in the blade sub-forum, but I asked GT to make me a survival/bushcraft knife with some pretty specific preferences and he delivered! The blade is about 5"-ish, the scales are mesquite, there is some perfectly placed jimping on the spine, and his signature acid etch on the blade. Here it is with the sheath I made for it. Not surprisingly, the blade is super sharp, will spark a ferro rod with no problem, and has just enough heft to do some light chopping. I'm looking forward to taking it outside to put it to use. If you've ever thought about one of GT's blades and were on the fence, just go for it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Back many years ago I caught two men attempting to steal some of my high dollar fishing rods out of my boat at 2AM with the help of Kasey. This was back about 12 years ago when Kasey was very aggressive and had actually attacked and bit one of them before I could get out side but she treed him up in my boat which is the only place he could go to get away from her. His buddy broke and ran only to be caught a few doors down hiding behind a neighbors out building. When I turned on carport lights he was standing in my boat bleeding a lot from Kasy's bites to his leg and hand. I called 911 and the dispatcher said that all of the patrol cars were busy and it might be 20 minutes or longer before they could get a car to my location.   I told the dispatcher that I was just going to shoot the guy and go back to bed and they would find him in the boat when they had time to come. She said "don't do that, we are on the way" and within about 30 seconds I heard sirens coming along with EMT's to my location. When police arrived they allowed the EMT's to get him out of my boat and begin treating his wounds. Kasey had taken a large chunk of meat out of his lower leg and when he tried to push her away she took off two of his fingers. I noticed Kasey at the end of her cable looking down at the neighbors house and I told the officers he had an accomplice and he was hiding a few doors down. They said they would call for a K=9 and I said just give me a minute and I unhooked Kasey and she disappeared into the darkness for a few seconds and very quickly the other bad guy came running as fast as possible right towards the officers with Kasey hot on is heels. I stopped her and the LEO's grabbed him.   I learned later that these guys were both illegals in the country and worked for the Lawn Care Service that cut my neighbors yard once a week. They investigated the lawn care Service and found out that the owner employed 23 illegals. They shut him down and arrested all of his employees.   I could have shot the guy but I was not at that moment in fear of my life and I would not have shot him had the police not arrived for 20 minutes. I just know that in this town at 2AM the police are not to busy to respond so I just gave them an incentive to come sooner because I am not a person that kills for fun but I will in self defense of my life or fear on my life. I was more concerned about the guy bleeding out before they arrived. Kasey got him really good and back years ago she was a lot more aggressive than she is these days.   With all of this said with this OP no one was there so no one really knows the facts except the shooter. Either way the dead guy brought his own death by committing the crime............jmho

  6. Well, when you are raised by government and basically taught there is no accountability for any action, everything is given to people and the culture around you is based on nothing but crime and corruption with no consequences in most ghetto homes, there you go. An entire subculture of takers is born and they can't differentiate between taking handouts or stealing from someone with more than them, or even less.

  8. As some of you know, I was looking for information about GPS tracking devices to keep an eye on the vehicle being driven by my teenage daughter. Thanks to our very own Dustbuster, I now have exactly what I need. Why am I not surprised that TGO has its very own GPS tracking expert? I love this place. For all your GPS tracking needs, give ol' Dustbuster a shout. He's a good dude. I hadn't given much though to the number of possible applications for one of these things, but I learned a lot today.

  14. And that is where you and I differ, I believe property owners have the right to protect what is theirs, by what ever means necessary, within the law of course. Again, the police have no duty to protect your property, so who else is there? If someone has the means and will to do so then more power to them. Maybe if more criminals end up dieing when commiting their crimes there would be less crime.

  17. With the help of another friend I think I've decided on a lever action 30-30. Going to start my search for a decent used one. Seems to be the best of both worlds and doesn't look all tactical in case I need it for a worst case scenario. I liked what one guy said on another thread "don't look like the bad guy". And the lever gun would be a good woods gun as well and deer rifle if needed.

  19. My thoughts, I work my tail off all day everyday for what I have, which admittedly is less than a lot of people, but it's mine. I'm not about to let someone who sits around all day doing nothing but sucking up my tax dollars on government assistance and doing drugs to come and steal what I have. If you want what I have go get a job and earn it the right way.

  21. I wouldn't even take internal wear into consideration. I would say it would be hard to find a Glock that was even close to having wear to be concerned about. I'd give potential purchases a once over, visually check rifling and call it good.

  23. I clean before I resize most times, I also swage the primer pocket because I get mostly NATO cases. I also full length resize because I don't separate my reloads per rifle. I also crimp all my reloads, differing only by how much, whether it be for semi-auto or bolt, cast or copper.

  24. That should have said the grips ARE original. Me or auto correct messed that up. Also he said the side emblem came a little later. I didn't know that. Ejector rod was different at that time also. I love learning the history of these old guns.

  25. I agree that it's not going to disappear.  But, as was said twenty years ago; "All the penetration of the .45, and all the stopping power of the 9mm." There are certainly more effective cartridges available now.    Overseas, I stuck with 9mm due to cartridge availability.  Here, I stick with .45 since even if the hollowpoints don't expand, you still get a nearly half-inch hole.    Some years back, I became enamored of the .400 Corbon.  I still like it since it's a nice fast .40 bullet that is almost as good as 10mm.  And the modification to my .45s just required a new barrel and recoil spring.  Brass is easily resized from normal .45 brass.  I still use it some, but the availability of faster .45 loads has diminished the appeal.   So, while I have a couple of .40s, they rarely see any range time and I don't keep much ammo around for them.

  27. Thanks for posting this Spots.   The exert is from a thread on TPI (Total Protection Interactive) back it's it's first days. belisarius (Sebastian) is one of the "plank owners" of TPI, a real deal modern warrior and critical thinker. The impetus behind the thread was having a mental image of a worse case scenario in order to motivate and focus your training. So, obviously, if you envision training to hold your own, and even match, the abilities of a "Todd" you will certainly stand a much better chance against your everyday street thugs. Now that is probably quite obvious to most folks reading this thread, but I felt compelled to mention it nonetheless as I was a member on TPI and participated, in a very small way, in the original thread. I was very blessed to have known and trained with several TPI members. You'd appreciate them Spots, as they would your abilities and dedication to martial training.   Dave makes many excellent points. I too am in my 60's, and while the mantra of "Sweat dries, blood clots, and bones heal" is true..it sure the hell takes a lot longer these days...   As Dave said "We tend to underestimate thugs", True...and sometimes we over-estimate our abilities. It's part of being human I guess. Our best course of action is avoidance when possible. But we still should strive to elevate our skills (awareness included) to the highest level possible...and hope for a bit of luck along the way.   Thanks again for posting this Spots, and for sharing your knowledge with the community Sir.

  31. BS; first, Todd having the mental toughness and mental discipline to do all that is probably somebody on your side. Todd, wants to go home at the end of the day, Todd does not want your measly $20 you may have in your wallet, and Todd, having undergone all that training is probably doing all this overseas to the same people that we all want to have it done to. No, Todd is not the guy you need to worry about; it's Fred Crackhead, and Mohammed Martyr which pose the greatest risk. Fred, wakes around 1pm after a night shooting up heroin or smoking crack. He needs another fix, he has honed his skill by shoplifting, breaking into cars and houses. He doesn't really care if anyone is there or not, his only goal is the next fix. He started off carrying a piece of pipe someone threw out, upgraded to a knife in one of the home burglaries then scored a nice 1911 when he broke into a truck looking for loose change, he was almost caught though, but he managed to give the owner the slip. Fred has now decided that loose change just isn't cutting it, he decides to go for the big score so he picks a nice store to rob, and look there is a sign out front letting him know that nobody inside will confront him. So he begins his robbery when what do you know, the trucks owner just walked in... Mohammed, wakes at 4am tired and restless from the long flight the night before. He has just completed a 6 month course in Somalia where they taught him hand to hand combat, how to shoot rifles handguns and RPGs. John, I mean Mohammed, mustn't make that mistake again; it could mean his head...Mohammed has come back home to the US. He was born in Michigan, dated a high school cheerleader, worked his dad's farm, but became dissolutioned after graduation, thought Obama was going to fix things, after all he is one of them. But listening to his heroes Cleric Anwar al-Awlaki and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright he has come to the realization that only he can strike a blow for Allah. So he straps on a his vest made just like his explosives instructor taught him using dynamite his dad was planning on using for those stumps in the new pasture and loads his equipment into the old ford. His chosen targets, the local water supply, his friend Thomas, err I mean Maliki, brought over some powder to dump into the pumping station, it's right by the stadium where the big homecoming game is scheduled to be played. He knows security will be light, after all nothing can happen here, but he has had a friend supply him with a new AK-47 just in case...

  32. The purpose of one hangun and one rifle is logistics. Amorers only need to learn one system, stock fewer parts and keep the soldier in the fight. Supply lines only need to stock one bullet. When the soldier goes empty, he can get a mag fom anyone else in the fight. As an aside, these are the same reasons Tennessee's State LEOs all carry Glock .40s; backup in firefight. 33. You have already received a lot of good input in the above posts.  I feel for you and wish I had more to offer.  I love my dogs, all of which are rescue animals from bad situations.  I would say gather all the info you can as to treatment options, cost and subsequent quality of life then make a decision based heavily on logic rather than emotion.  I know this can be hard and I hate that you and your pet are dealing with it.

  44. Is this for city court or general sessions? Regardless you should have an opportunity to call and plead guilty with an opportunity to just pay over the phone. All of this assuming that is what you wanted to do. Unless you have to take off work, and it cost you money to go to court, I advise showing up for the court date and plead not guilty. The most it generally cost you is what the ticket would have cost anyway, especially if this is a city magistrate that is appointed. A $50 fine and your court cost is generally the max for Tennessee. Sessions court however is not limited to the $50 fine. I do not know of a maximum on court fees. I know one city in TN has one over $200, but most are around $100. As for your radar detector not giving you a warning there are several probabilities, but we can not rule out the possibility that the officer was not using a speed measurement device. He would be committing perjury by saying that he did when he didn't of course. Officers can write a ticket without confirming speed but it is highly discouraged. More sophisticated speed measurement devices such as Ka band radars are not as easily detectable even if you have a Ka band detector. Some field studies I was a part of ten years ago showed angles and window tint effect radar detector performance. As well, if he was using his device properly it didn't have time to give a warning before you were targeted and he released the button. We call this feature instant on. The waves go out and return too fast to often get detected. Laser is a completely different animal, but he would have checked Lidar instead of radar. I will say this: If the officer saw your radar detector it is probably the deciding factor for you getting a ticket over a warning. I have told numerous speeding violators, "I was going to give you a warning but I see that your radar detector must have already given you a warning or two." In all honesty, Officers have concluded that there is only one reason a person choices to have a radar detector; that is that they like to speed. Be safe and best of luck with contesting.

  45. I have used SMP 842 and it helped me shoot the best group I ever have with my AR. It cycled 100% with 53 grain SMK's as well as my 69 SMK load. I got some sub 1/2" groups at 122 yards during load development. And after about 60 rounds you couldn't hardly tell the AR had been shot. I like it so much I am getting ready to load 1,000 rounds using it. Those rounds are going to be part of my stash. David, DLM37015 on here, sells it at the shows for around $100 for an 8 pound jug. For the money it can't be beat. David also sells the primed brass and 62 grain bullets to make your own M855 rounds. You should be able to load 1,000 rounds for under $250. Dolomite
