Maybe I should have posted this in the blade sub-forum, but I asked GT to make me a survival/bushcraft knife with some pretty specific preferences and he delivered! The blade is about 5"-ish, the scales are mesquite, there is some perfectly placed jimping on the spine, and his signature acid etch on the blade. Here it is with the sheath I made for it. Not surprisingly, the blade is super sharp, will spark a ferro rod with no problem, and has just enough heft to do some light chopping. I'm looking forward to taking it outside to put it to use. If you've ever thought about one of GT's blades and were on the fence, just go for it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk7 points

Back many years ago I caught two men attempting to steal some of my high dollar fishing rods out of my boat at 2AM with the help of Kasey. This was back about 12 years ago when Kasey was very aggressive and had actually attacked and bit one of them before I could get out side but she treed him up in my boat which is the only place he could go to get away from her. His buddy broke and ran only to be caught a few doors down hiding behind a neighbors out building. When I turned on carport lights he was standing in my boat bleeding a lot from Kasy's bites to his leg and hand. I called 911 and the dispatcher said that all of the patrol cars were busy and it might be 20 minutes or longer before they could get a car to my location. I told the dispatcher that I was just going to shoot the guy and go back to bed and they would find him in the boat when they had time to come. She said "don't do that, we are on the way" and within about 30 seconds I heard sirens coming along with EMT's to my location. When police arrived they allowed the EMT's to get him out of my boat and begin treating his wounds. Kasey had taken a large chunk of meat out of his lower leg and when he tried to push her away she took off two of his fingers. I noticed Kasey at the end of her cable looking down at the neighbors house and I told the officers he had an accomplice and he was hiding a few doors down. They said they would call for a K=9 and I said just give me a minute and I unhooked Kasey and she disappeared into the darkness for a few seconds and very quickly the other bad guy came running as fast as possible right towards the officers with Kasey hot on is heels. I stopped her and the LEO's grabbed him. I learned later that these guys were both illegals in the country and worked for the Lawn Care Service that cut my neighbors yard once a week. They investigated the lawn care Service and found out that the owner employed 23 illegals. They shut him down and arrested all of his employees. I could have shot the guy but I was not at that moment in fear of my life and I would not have shot him had the police not arrived for 20 minutes. I just know that in this town at 2AM the police are not to busy to respond so I just gave them an incentive to come sooner because I am not a person that kills for fun but I will in self defense of my life or fear on my life. I was more concerned about the guy bleeding out before they arrived. Kasey got him really good and back years ago she was a lot more aggressive than she is these days. With all of this said with this OP no one was there so no one really knows the facts except the shooter. Either way the dead guy brought his own death by committing the crime............jmho5 points

Well, when you are raised by government and basically taught there is no accountability for any action, everything is given to people and the culture around you is based on nothing but crime and corruption with no consequences in most ghetto homes, there you go. An entire subculture of takers is born and they can't differentiate between taking handouts or stealing from someone with more than them, or even less.3 points

As some of you know, I was looking for information about GPS tracking devices to keep an eye on the vehicle being driven by my teenage daughter. Thanks to our very own Dustbuster, I now have exactly what I need. Why am I not surprised that TGO has its very own GPS tracking expert? I love this place. For all your GPS tracking needs, give ol' Dustbuster a shout. He's a good dude. I hadn't given much though to the number of possible applications for one of these things, but I learned a lot today.2 points

We used to go to a vet that had you check a box on the paper work when checking in It said "pet or member of the family" Was a good way for them to understand how to approach you with treatment choices2 points

And that is where you and I differ, I believe property owners have the right to protect what is theirs, by what ever means necessary, within the law of course. Again, the police have no duty to protect your property, so who else is there? If someone has the means and will to do so then more power to them. Maybe if more criminals end up dieing when commiting their crimes there would be less crime.2 points

With the help of another friend I think I've decided on a lever action 30-30. Going to start my search for a decent used one. Seems to be the best of both worlds and doesn't look all tactical in case I need it for a worst case scenario. I liked what one guy said on another thread "don't look like the bad guy". And the lever gun would be a good woods gun as well and deer rifle if needed.2 points

I would not say it is really funny but I think that is how most criminals really feel! I think most of them do wish people did not own personal firearms. It would really make their jobs a lot safer...........jmho1 point

Baby elephants are cute, cuddly, and have no idea that they weigh a ton—or will someday. In fact, they’re born weighing about 200 pounds. A big reason that baby elephants (called calves) are so friendly and want to cuddle is that they have poor vision, so they react to their mothers through touch, scent, and sound.1 point

Hard to argue with a 30/30 lever action. Personally, I would consider a Savage Axis if I were looking at a Ruger American.1 point

Just as an FYI, I made it to the Nashville Bill Goodman show today. There was plenty of both .22lr and .22WMR on the tables. Prices were still pretty high. The best deals were Federal .22LR Automatch 325rds for $17.99 ( $.055/rd) and CCI .22WMR 30gr 50rds for $17.99 ($.36/rd). So, it's beginning to become more available.1 point

I run my Glock 18 like a raped ape, rarely clean it (actually almost never), and when it does come apart, i'm still not worried about internal wear. Not even a consideration to me. If it breaks, it breaks. Cheap and easy to fix the guns.1 point

Far more guns get worn out due to excessive cleaning than excessive shooting.1 point

If I didn't enjoy reloading then I wouldn't bother doing it. Just shoot factory ammo. You are going to have to do a considerable amount of shooting to justify spending the time and money on reloading, not worth it if you do not enjoy the reloading process as well.1 point

If shooting something other than a bolt gun you will need to full length resize. An AR doesn't have the ability to cam the bolt closed reliably on neck sized cases. Crimping or not is based on your experience wait and see how it goes.1 point

PS: with the price of 223 as low as it is right now, if you only reload this caliber you might want to figure out how long it will take you to save that extra dime or so a shot1 point

As someone who has been in sales a long time I can offer some advice on this. 1)Never disparage another product. As already mentioned, calling it crap will create a defensive position. 2) Educate. Pull out some of you guns and talk about the differences is revolvers, semi autos etc. Talk about what makes one a quality piece and another not so much. Use their gun as well as yours to present a best, better, good scenario in that order. Show them what they lose at each step. 3) Shoot them. Start with the raven then something much smoother and easier on the hands. This is where you insert bias by making the comparison bigger, less recoil, easier to handle. Like a pinto vs a caddy. Let her make the decision to get a different gun by guiding.1 point

Sure, different departments are going to use different weapons. But most forward thinking Police Departments are going to require the Officers within that department (especially street cops) to use the same ammo and weapons that use the same magazines. There is no need for the military (or a Police Department) to have duty weapons that are incompatible with each other. (With the exception of special ops) Someone in THP made the decision to go with the .357Sig. That doesn’t mean it was good decision.1 point

Murphy showed up at Mass one Sunday and the priest almost fell down when he saw him. He'd never been to church in his life. After Mass, the priest caught up with him and said, "Murphy, I am so glad ya decided to come to Mass. What made ya come?" Murphy said, "I got to be honest with you Father, a while back, I misplaced me hat and I really, really love that hat. I know that McGlynn had a hat just like mine and I knew he came to church every Sunday. I also knew that he had to take off his hat during Mass and figured he would leave it in the back of church. So, I was going to leave after Communion and steal McGlynn's hat." The priest said, "Well, Murphy, I notice that ya didn't steal McGlynn's hat. What changed your mind?" Murphy replied, "Well, after I heard your sermon on the Ten Commandments, I decided that I didn't need to steal McGlynn's hat after all." With a tear in his eye the priest gave Murphy a big smile and said; "After I talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' ya decided you would rather do without your hat than burn in Hell?" Murphy slowly shook his head. "No, Father, after ya talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' I remembered where I left me hat."1 point

No way you could determine that her life was not in danger, the story said there was a confrontation, too few details to make a judgment, that's why the professionals are still investigating and have not made an official decision weather it was a good shoot or not. Also, a few weeks ago my brothers alarm service called me to inform me his alarm was going off, I jumped in my truck and got there as fast as I could, this time it was a false alarm and the deputy got there before I did but I went with the intention and my Glock to see what was going on. If the deputy wasn't there I planned to check it out myself, I would only do that if it's my or my family's property, and I do have one friend I would do that for but no one else. I don't plan to shoot some unarmed burglar at a distance but he/she will probably know i'm there. As far as i'm concerned what they do then determines how I will act and I believe Tennessee law is on your side then and no, it's not just property it's my or my family's property that we earned so I will get involved and don't care who disagrees. If a thief wants to drop my stuff and leave I wont shoot him but it's all up to him/her at that point. There is a protection of property statement in Tennessee law in one of the codes. Like I said I don't know what happened with the thief Trevon and the lady but the fact remains that if the thief Trevon didn't break into her home he would be alive so it is his actions that caused his death, not hers.1 point

It's never an easy call. I try to be pragmatic when it comes to these things. The #1 question that needs to be asked is "what is the quality of life for my animal going to be?" If money were no object tippy opt for the surgery, unfortunately that is not the case for many of us. Option #2 can the dog be kept comfortable without surgery? If this can happen then it may be a good option. To give you an idea of where I stand on animals, I despise the kind of people that get a dog and try to get rid of it because it isn't fun anymore or doesn't fit their lifestyle. That said of you have done all that you can reasonably do I wouldn't hold it against someone to have their dog put down instead of spending an amount of money on it that they can't afford. I would not put myself in financial strain over a pet, not more than I could recover from in a short amount of time anyway. I know that sounds insensitive but I really don't mean for it to. I would at least consider getting a second opinion before doing anything drastic either way.1 point

Not sure how Florida law treats things, but if this were Tennessee, the lady would have opened herself up to at least a civil suit since she wasn't in the home when the intruder was there, and actively went back after getting the alert. If she shot him while she was outside, I'd go as far as to say this may well be an justified shoot, as I'm not seeing how her life was in danger when she pulled the trigger. Might be the same if she saw him going out the window from the inside as well since she actively went back into the house. Again, Florida law would need to be looked at, but if Zimmerman was put on trial for shooting in a fight, then it's quite possible that she could be charged for shooting someone without any immediate danger as the kid was leaving the scene. As to the circumstances that led to this kid engaging in, at a minimum, breaking and entering...desperate people will do desperate things. That's not excusing what he did, but it's important to remember that things aren't getting better for a lot of people, and criminal activity isn't hard to justify if you feel you have nothing left to lose, and a growing number of the population are reaching that level.1 point

Just watched the episode this morning, and it had it's good points, and a few not so good. I see the changes in Carol and Maggie. Carol is getting confused and starting to "feel" the deeds they have performed to get where the group is now. That is weighing on her; and possibly weakening the character. Carol seemed very hesitant to shoot Red. And with Maggie taking the lead at the last stand on the killing floor. And before that, a general attitude change. She seems to be getting colder in her dealings with people and her group. Actually see her in more a leadership role coming. Whether as a replacement for Rick and Michonne, or a splinter group within Hilltop or the original camp(if enough left after the swarming). I actually think I'm going to watch this episode again. It has several strong clues to the Negan Group. When Red was communicating, all the code and military style references make me think that Negan is going to be a Big game changer for Rick and company. I'm basing this on what I've seen on the show, and my thoughts on it. I've never read any of the comics, nor the novels that have been published, so it's all guesswork.1 point

It is a 9 twist SS 16" barrel that is not chrome lined. All loads are 2.23" OAL in order to feed from the magazines. The brass was match prepped and used Wolf SRM primers. There was no crimp, only neck tension holding the bullet. The brass was R-P with several loadings on them. I ran loads from 27.1 to 28.3 with 53 SMK. 28.3 grains seemed like a sweet spot with the 53 SMK. 27.7 did equally as well. For the 69 SMK I loaded from 24.5-24.9 grains. They did fine and shot comparable to my Varget loads with the same charge weights. Although it may not shoot the 69 better than Varget it is doing it cheaper. I have loaded using H335 and the SMP 842 is more accurate. Tula runs around 4"-5" at 100 yards. With factory Remington green box it was shooting 2" at 100 yards. With Blackhills it was around an inch. I have never really did any shooting using surplus US ammo. And all of this was done with a bore that has had little more than a bore snake ran through it in years. I did clean the bolt in order to see how clean the powder was. And as always my data was safe in my gun. I cannot guarantee it will be in yours. Make sure you follow published data and work up accordingly to keep yourself safe. Do no rely on my load data, do your own research. Dolomite1 point
