Class experiences have a way of weeding out gear that is...."sub-optimal". Until you really experience the "Why" a particular gun or piece of gear is less than ideal you really don't have a grasp of why you need to upgrade. Until you see it fail it is still just "other people's opinions". When it refuses to shoot more than 3 rounds without malfunctioning, or until you experience how difficult it is to press the trigger , or work the slide (these are generalities not particular to any one particular gun ) then it becomes fact that you discovered...not just something someone told you..... I tell students all the time that class is also an equipment lab for them to test their kit. I tell them to bring what you actually carry on a daily basis to pistol classes , or what you actually plan to use in case of home invasion, natural disaster, Indian uprising or zombie apocalypse for rifle and shotgun classes. Until you try to run your actual gear you actually plan to use then you have no real idea how well (or not) it will perform. Best to find that out in class and not on the two way range.3 points

Talk to both of them at the same time. If you can have a better chose to show them with you. Have something to compare against the Raven.3 points

Raven 25, wow. That's a real Saturday Night Special. What a piece of crap. I would say something along the lines that the gun can be the difference between life and death. A fancy gun isn't needed but a quality gun is a must and that someone planning on using a gun for self defense needs to plan on spending about this amount.3 points

I'm thinking Carol is slipping into a dangerous place mentally, even though she was active in killing several more people. She would never have hesitated to shoot the red head before, but was having a problem in this episode. At the end of the last scene, she was squeezing the cross she had sharpened to escape and blood dripped out of her hand. This was a response to Rick shooting the bad guy in the head. She would never have done that before. Something is changing in her mind and its not a good thing. I see Maggie becoming a ferocious wolf den mother when in danger because of her baby.2 points

Its really, really hard to beat PSA unless you want to build your own from scratch. Even then it's tough price wise unless you just have to have _____ hand guards or a barrel made by ______. And even THEN it's tough to beat unless you have yourself fooled into thinking this will be your only AR and you won't have any need or want of extra parts. One AR. :rofl:2 points

I guess I'm a bit late to this party, but I do have a couple. I'm partial to the U.S. guns. :usa: Get your paperwork together and make a little road trip to the CMP South Store in Anniston, Ala. There you can pick and choose from what they have in the store and take it home right then. The staff is extremely helpful and will loan you bore and chamber gauges to help you make a selection. That's what I did and have never regretted it. Come on now. The paperwork isn't that difficult, you get to pick your own rifle, you know its in good condition and its not that far of a drive from anywhere in Tennessee. Not to mention that it'll save a at minimum a several hundred over what you might find locally. CMP Garands won't last much longer. The supply is running out. The time to get one is NOW. ;)2 points

You're likely wasting your breath until they've had the experience of shooting the pistol and getting frustrated on their own. If they get frustrated, that gives you an opening to help them learn. But, up to that point, it involves throwing the husband under the bus.2 points

Ask if you'd spend that much on yourself because that's really what you are doing. The answer becomes easy after you answer that question. I used to foolishly say in disbelief that there is no way I'd spend that kind of money on a dog. I now have one laying at my feet that is very near and dear to my heart. If I knew that he'd be fine and enjoy a reasonable quality of life after a several thousand dollar surgery I'd do it in a heartbeat.2 points

Well, when you are raised by government and basically taught there is no accountability for any action, everything is given to people and the culture around you is based on nothing but crime and corruption with no consequences in most ghetto homes, there you go. An entire subculture of takers is born and they can't differentiate between taking handouts or stealing from someone with more than them, or even less.2 points

I hope this isn't crossing forum lines. I've donated to BBBS before and decided this year to get involved and try to find sponsors to get me over the edge. So maybe y'all would be interested in helping me out a little. I've signed up with big brothers big sisters of Tennessee in an effort to raise $1000. I've had a little success so far with the fundraising, but haven't gotten very far. I figured I'd post here and see if anyone might be interested in giving a little to help my cause. Here's the link to my personal page to donate to.. http://otenashville.kintera.org/blewbayou I appreciate anything that is given to get me closer to my goal and ultimately for big brothers big sisters.1 point

Was talking to another member today and got on the topic of AR-15 safeties. I realized during the discussion that I've never really been a huge fan of the standard style, and thought maybe I should try making my own style. So I did, and this was the result. Still needs a good bit of tweaking but it doesn't interfere with anything, it's really comfortable, and easy to manipulate. Thoughts or ideas welcome. Bad pictures, my bad. TN / GA / AL Training Group On Sunday April 10 we will hold our 2nd meeting of the 2016 season for the TN/GA/AL Regional Suarez Int Training Group! Instructor: Tier 1 Suarez Int Staff Instructor Randy Harris Location: The usual place- Phillips/Edwards Farm 763 County Rd 332 Pisgah AL 35765 Time: 9AM CENTRAL time - 3PM CENTRAL time Price: $60 - pay at class cash or check. What you need to bring: Pistol, pistol magazines and at least 150 rounds of ammo. Revolvers are welcome if you want to party like it is 1899. Subject : Why did I leave my rifle at home?.....Precision pistol shooting at extended range.... We will be working on longer than usual distance pistol work. Not everything happens at arms length or inside 5 yards and sometimes there is need to take a shot at 15 yards (and farther). In the middle of the fight is not the time to find out how well you can shoot when targets are 25 yards across a parking lot or down an aisle at Walmart where bystanders may be down range or the background is not just a dirt berm or brick wall. Come out and develop your "Pistol sniping " skills.1 point

Both are 5/32" thick 1095 carbon steel that have been double etched and have mosaic pins. This one has a matched set on mesquite scales and thumb jimping on the spine. This one has a nice set of mahogany scales and some filework on the spine..1 point

There's a dash cam by Cobra that I installed in my daughter's car a few months ago when she started driving. Not only does it record video and audio, but GPS data and speed. She got a speeding ticked a few weeks ago. She swears she wasn't doing 30 over the limit. But, of course, the dash cam suction cup lost its seal, and she's not quite sure where it ended up... Technology is nice. When it works. And, perhaps, when it isn't sabotaged... ETA: Oh, yeah. She's also paying for the ticket. And the increase in insurance, if she can't get it dismissed with traffic school. And she's buying a new dash cam.1 point

I'm going to break from the pack with another piece of input. I haven't taught shooting classes and can't speak from experience in that instance. I've spent my career talking to people about buying something from me. I have always viewed my role as educating and enabling them to make the best decision for their company. I've been in hundreds of situations where the prospective client made a big mistake. I always say, 'This is your decision. I think the best choice for you is X and here is why. Sometimes they follow what I say and sometimes they don't. Once they listen to what I say I then respect the decision they make. In this case, I think it makes sense to bring it up with both of them. Assuming that you are working with her tomorrow, I would bring it up and offer to let her use one of your guns whether or not her husband is there. She's investing 8 hours on Sunday. You are looking out for her by sharing this. If he isn't there you can always suggest she talk it over with her husband. I don't view this as throwing the husband under the bus. Most likely, he is un-educated about guns and doesn't know the Raven is a piece of crap and that a .25 isn't a good defensive round.1 point

Usually every class has someone that needs guidance. I give generalized guidelines/ suggestions early on in the class. I hate for new shooters to have trouble during qualification. If they insist on using a difficult gun, I will get them to change out to a 22 pretty quick. Also generally no good reason to go buy a gun just for a carry class. Plenty of time later to make good, informed choice.1 point

I will raise you 2 nopes-I have lived in the area for the better part of 20 years and have found no-where free to shoot-zip-zero-nadda-nill.I originally came from an area where there were many places to shoot for free.1 point

Constitutional carry is a more pressing issue than fully unrestricted carry. It represents the greater infringement upon a natural right of the two options.1 point

I'd also like to add that I find it amusing how you point out that braiding hair and holding up traffic are two different things and then compare reckless driving and pointing a loaded gun with holding up traffic. Mmm hmmm.1 point

We've discussed the installation of the tracking device, and the reasons why I feel it's important. She doesn't agree. She got pretty upset after I brought it up again last night, even going as far as threatening to NOT drive the car. Of course I called her bluff. Needless to say, I wasn't even slightly surprised when she came begging for the car key this morning.1 point

I won't go over some of the 'known' items that the OP mentioned, save one, the grips. I had them made by a guy over at CZFirearms forums. They are black layers of linen fabric in a phenolic resin. The magic is in the trigger and the accuracy. With new CGW internals, 85C trigger and new stainless Ring hammer, the DA pull is a 7 lbs 13 ounces and the SA is a very sweet 3 lbs 13 ounces. SA reset is 2.5 mm. Barrel bushing is from Wilson Combat and the lockup is extremely tight, in a good way. Shot over 100 rounds last night with no hiccups using 230 ball and 230 HST defense from Federal. As far as accuracy, it exceeded my expectations. Granted, I'm not a NRA bullseye shooter nor do I handload for pistol, but at 15 yards from a standing two-handed position, if I did my part five shot groups were sub-three inches. All in all, great feeling pistol. Had that great feel before sending off to CGW but now the trigger and barrel lockup put this black beauty in a different category.1 point

Bassoneer I am so sorry to hear this. I hope that there is a treatment that can let him have a normal life. Me and the Misses can relate to exactly what your going through. It all comes down to quality of life. The money sucks and can play a huge factor in the treatment but how he will live is the big factor. Let the vet get all the results in and see what they tell you. We currently have our oldest at the vets now waiting for tests and overnight progress, it's terrifying. I really hope they can give you some good news soon.1 point

I'd add too, that everyone's situation is different. And don't feel bad if the money is just too much. You 2 legged family comes first. Didn't want my earlier post to sound harsh. Also, side note regarding the symptoms... my dad's dog once had liver issues like that, and they did a bunch of tests only to figure out a neighbor was poisoning him... but sometimes also they just get into something that's bad for them and they don't know better1 point

For me, it comes down to what will be the dogs quality of life if it is successful. Even if it is successful, can he lead a fairly normal, active life. He is very young, so age isn't really a factor for me in a decision like this. Only you can say if you can afford it. I have spent thousands on my dogs in the past, but I was fortunate it wouldn't keep me from making the house payment and I am single and they have been my kids. Almost all vets will work out a payment plan as well. If I was fairly certain they knew what the problem was and were confident it could be fixed (more accurately, managed) by surgery, I would do it. If I wasn't 80% sure, as much as I would hate to, I would probably euthanize the dog. Not so much because of the money, but the fact that I wasn't convinced the dog wouldn't suffer. It's heart wrenching I know.1 point

What would be really cool is if you could do like the late great Tom Knapp did with a shotgun, eject the spent case and shoot it with the next round before it hits the ground. Do that with a semi-auto pistol and you would really be a bad a$$. :) UGG, of course you would have to be turning 90+ degrees with each shot, better not have an audience.1 point

I'd consider doing both the "find my phone" app and a car mounted GPS. I'd also install a dash mounted camera. Then I'd sit down with her and have a discussion with her. She has the freedom to use the vehicle and go where you allow her to go so far as she abides by your rules. You have the right to check on her vehicle operation skills and be able to locate her if you are concerned for her safety. Additionally the GPS and dash mounted camera can be used to provide a clear and unbiased representation of the facts if she's involved in an accident or is stopped by a police officer. If her friends have issues with this then they aren't true friends. If she has issues with this then she doesn't understand it can either save her life or save her drivers license.1 point

Yeah, I would go with a hidden phone app. Kids will die before leaving their phone behind.1 point

Most “move over” laws only require you to move over if you can do so safely. If that’s why he did that; he has big problems. Being fired would be the least of his worries he could be arrested. There is nothing in that video to show why he would have done what he did. I guess we will wait and see what happens.1 point
