Class experiences have a way of weeding out gear that is...."sub-optimal". Until you really experience the "Why" a particular gun or piece of gear is less than ideal you really don't have a grasp of why you need to upgrade. Until you see it fail it is still just "other people's opinions". When it refuses to shoot more than 3 rounds without malfunctioning, or until you experience how difficult it is to press the trigger , or work the slide (these are generalities not particular to any one particular gun ) then it becomes fact that you discovered...not just something someone told you..... I tell students all the time that class is also an equipment lab for them to test their kit. I tell them to bring what you actually carry on a daily basis to pistol classes , or what you actually plan to use in case of home invasion, natural disaster, Indian uprising or zombie apocalypse for rifle and shotgun classes. Until you try to run your actual gear you actually plan to use then you have no real idea how well (or not) it will perform. Best to find that out in class and not on the two way range.3 points

Talk to both of them at the same time. If you can have a better chose to show them with you. Have something to compare against the Raven.3 points

Raven 25, wow. That's a real Saturday Night Special. What a piece of crap. I would say something along the lines that the gun can be the difference between life and death. A fancy gun isn't needed but a quality gun is a must and that someone planning on using a gun for self defense needs to plan on spending about this amount.3 points

I'm thinking Carol is slipping into a dangerous place mentally, even though she was active in killing several more people. She would never have hesitated to shoot the red head before, but was having a problem in this episode. At the end of the last scene, she was squeezing the cross she had sharpened to escape and blood dripped out of her hand. This was a response to Rick shooting the bad guy in the head. She would never have done that before. Something is changing in her mind and its not a good thing. I see Maggie becoming a ferocious wolf den mother when in danger because of her baby.2 points

Its really, really hard to beat PSA unless you want to build your own from scratch. Even then it's tough price wise unless you just have to have _____ hand guards or a barrel made by ______. And even THEN it's tough to beat unless you have yourself fooled into thinking this will be your only AR and you won't have any need or want of extra parts. One AR. :rofl:2 points

I guess I'm a bit late to this party, but I do have a couple. I'm partial to the U.S. guns. :usa: Get your paperwork together and make a little road trip to the CMP South Store in Anniston, Ala. There you can pick and choose from what they have in the store and take it home right then. The staff is extremely helpful and will loan you bore and chamber gauges to help you make a selection. That's what I did and have never regretted it. Come on now. The paperwork isn't that difficult, you get to pick your own rifle, you know its in good condition and its not that far of a drive from anywhere in Tennessee. Not to mention that it'll save a at minimum a several hundred over what you might find locally. CMP Garands won't last much longer. The supply is running out. The time to get one is NOW. ;)2 points

You're likely wasting your breath until they've had the experience of shooting the pistol and getting frustrated on their own. If they get frustrated, that gives you an opening to help them learn. But, up to that point, it involves throwing the husband under the bus.2 points

Ask if you'd spend that much on yourself because that's really what you are doing. The answer becomes easy after you answer that question. I used to foolishly say in disbelief that there is no way I'd spend that kind of money on a dog. I now have one laying at my feet that is very near and dear to my heart. If I knew that he'd be fine and enjoy a reasonable quality of life after a several thousand dollar surgery I'd do it in a heartbeat.2 points

Well, when you are raised by government and basically taught there is no accountability for any action, everything is given to people and the culture around you is based on nothing but crime and corruption with no consequences in most ghetto homes, there you go. An entire subculture of takers is born and they can't differentiate between taking handouts or stealing from someone with more than them, or even less.2 points

http://www.gunowners.org/alert03172016.htm John Kasich: Anti-gun “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” Comes word, from the Center for Responsive Politics, that Leftist billionaire George Soros, through his Soros Fund Management, is one of John Kasich's top financial contributors. This can hardly be a surprise. Kasich and Soros share two important traits: (1) their desire to mess up the Republican selection process for devious motives, and (2) their absolute hatred for the Second Amendment. Kasich’s antipathy towards gun rights is no secret to anyone who’s watched his career. Make no mistake about it: When we are winning by a large margin -- when we don't need John Kasich’s vote -- he's usually there to give us a big, wet “Don Corleone kiss.” But when the vote is close and the future of the Second Amendment is at stake, “Godfather John” usually leaves us a severed horsehead in our bed. Thus, Kasich famously joined a gaggle of fellow-RINO’s and cast the deciding vote to impose a ban on semi-auto firearms. For this, he received a personal letter of thanks from a gun-hating Bill Clinton. Kasich voted for background checks in 1993, a system where roughly 95% of denials are “false positives.” Loretta Lynch’s Justice Department has, since November, shifted FBI employees to insure that, if you’re illegally blocked by NICS from purchasing a firearm, you can never get your record corrected. In 1999, Kasich voted to retain restrictive gun ban in Washington, D.C. Not only that, Kasich joined the effort to pass 90% of Clinton’s anti-gun agenda as a form of “gun control lite.” Elements of the Kasich/Clinton agenda included: (1) Provisions making it virtually impossible to legally teach kids how to use firearms; (2) A gun show ban (masquerading as a gun show Instant Check); and (3) Mandates to require you to “lock up your guns.” Had Clinton been successful in passing his post-Columbine anti-gun agenda, it would have provided a legislative platform which could easily have eviscerated the Second Amendment over the last decade-and-a-half. But Kasich's efforts to outlaw guns -- drip-by-drip -- continues to this day. Kasich continues to be a chief advocate of actual or de facto amnesty, claiming that enforcing our immigration laws would be “inhumane.” Of course, if Kasich gets his way, the legalization of 11 million illegals will have the same effect on the American electorate that the 1986 Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty had on California. The country as a whole would become deep “anti-gun blue.” And, of course, Kasich was one of the first RINO’s to legitimize the anti-gun ObamaCare program by bringing its massive Medicaid segment into his state. Now, all it will take is for Obama to do a computer search of Kasich's Medicaid beneficiaries for “PTSD,” “Alzheimer’s,” and other “mental defectives,” and the gun rights of tens of thousands of law-abiding Ohioans could be jeopardized. And all of this was done by Kasich’s particularly nasty form of politics which he is now trying to morph, incredibly, into his “Mr. Nice” act. These actions, of course, reflect the hatred for guns by Kasich’s patron, George Soros. You may remember that, when Soros launched his campaign of “exposes” designed to destroy the conservative movement piece-by-piece, his first target was Gun Owners of America -- which Soros viewed as even more dangerous than the Koch brothers. But perhaps as bad as Kasich’s anti-gun record is his determination to destroy the GOP selection process for personal gain. Surely, even the vainglorious Kasich understands that, the longer he stays is the race, the longer the “divided field” makes it easier for an establishment candidate to hijack the process at the convention. Polls have shown -- here and here -- that Ted Cruz would beat Donald Trump in a head-to-head matchup. But by becoming the REAL “chaos candidate,” Kasich helps destroy the Republican Party by throwing the nomination to someone who is despised by the grassroots. In so doing, Kasich does the bidding of his master, George Soros. Ted Cruz would be the natural one to aggressively call out anti-gunner John Kasich for his anti-gun record. Please contact Ted Cruz and urge him to expose Kasich. Let’s not let Kasich pull the wool over the eyes of American voters. Sincerely, Tim Macy Chairman Gun Owners of America P.S. While you cannot use GOA’s Legislative Action Center to email Senator Ted Cruz -- unless you are a constituent of his -- you can easily contact him through his webform. So simply copy-n-paste the pre-written letter below into Senator Ted Cruz’ webform and urge him to expose Senator John Kasich’s anti-gun record. ----- Pre-written letter for Sen. Ted Cruz ----- Dear Senator Cruz: Thank you so much for your strong defense of the Constitution -- and in particular, the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Gun Owners of America has informed me that John Kasich has a long record of supporting gun control, including the following: 1) Kasich cast the deciding vote to impose a ban on semi-auto firearms, and for this, he received a personal letter of thanks from a gun-hating Bill Clinton. See: tinyurl.com/hp4ucsp 2) Kasich voted for background checks in 1993, a system which is now blocking a percentage of legal gun purchases. Loretta Lynch’s Justice Department has, since November, shifted FBI employees to insure that, if someone is illegally blocked by NICS from purchasing a firearm, they can never get their record corrected. See: tinyurl.com/hp4ucsp 3) In 1999, Kasich voted to retain restrictive gun ban in Washington, D.C. See: tinyurl.com/zyljbep 4) Also in 1999, he voted for provisions making it virtually impossible to legally teach kids how to use firearms; for a gun show ban (masquerading as a gun show Instant Check); and for mandates to requiring people to “lock up their guns.” See: tinyurl.com/jq84rcd With John Kasich deciding to remain in the presidential race, I think it’s important for someone on the national level to expose his anti-gun votes. I hope you will continue to point out Kasich's anti-gun positions. Sincerely,1 point

What Monkey said. Right now we're sitting on about $1,000 in bills. We're lucky it isn't cancer but now he might need a blood transfusion and he'll be on steroids and meds for the next 4-5 months at least. For us, we're a single income family and while we can make it, it's going to be tight. Luckily we have emergency money we can tap when needed. Max is between 10-12, as long as he is not in pain, I'll pay whatever it takes. If you can't afford it all, there are organizations that are set up to help you cover payments. Dog charities. I'm not kidding. Let me do some digging through my Facebook messages and see if I can find some links for you!! Again, it will depend on his quality of life, but goodness gracious, if he's your pal and can recover, let's try. So I'm going to go looking for those groups! As an old friend of mine used to say, "Trust isn't like a broken leg. It takes a long time to heal." You've already got some trust issues. I expect your daughter may, too. I would make sure that you have the conversation on the front end about your ability to see where she is and where she is going. Otherwise, there's no positive outcome once you disclose the fact that you have that data. You'd think that a conversation about trust, responsibility and oversight wouldn't be such a big deal, but in this day and age where those traits are so rare between parents and children, it has the potential to really blow up if you don't handle it correctly.1 point

I won't go over some of the 'known' items that the OP mentioned, save one, the grips. I had them made by a guy over at CZFirearms forums. They are black layers of linen fabric in a phenolic resin. The magic is in the trigger and the accuracy. With new CGW internals, 85C trigger and new stainless Ring hammer, the DA pull is a 7 lbs 13 ounces and the SA is a very sweet 3 lbs 13 ounces. SA reset is 2.5 mm. Barrel bushing is from Wilson Combat and the lockup is extremely tight, in a good way. Shot over 100 rounds last night with no hiccups using 230 ball and 230 HST defense from Federal. As far as accuracy, it exceeded my expectations. Granted, I'm not a NRA bullseye shooter nor do I handload for pistol, but at 15 yards from a standing two-handed position, if I did my part five shot groups were sub-three inches. All in all, great feeling pistol. Had that great feel before sending off to CGW but now the trigger and barrel lockup put this black beauty in a different category.1 point

I'd add too, that everyone's situation is different. And don't feel bad if the money is just too much. You 2 legged family comes first. Didn't want my earlier post to sound harsh. Also, side note regarding the symptoms... my dad's dog once had liver issues like that, and they did a bunch of tests only to figure out a neighbor was poisoning him... but sometimes also they just get into something that's bad for them and they don't know better1 point

She went to check here house after the alarm system alerted her. She sees the criminal coming out and I'm sure had words, this then turned in to a confrontation. I'm sure the criminal had respect for the older than him woman, but it's likely he not only threatened her but went to attack her. Some of this I read, some I assumed. I think she should sue the punks family!1 point

What would be really cool is if you could do like the late great Tom Knapp did with a shotgun, eject the spent case and shoot it with the next round before it hits the ground. Do that with a semi-auto pistol and you would really be a bad a$$. :) UGG, of course you would have to be turning 90+ degrees with each shot, better not have an audience.1 point

Yes, but it only takes a few seconds. You don't need to put it on heavy. I spray at about a 45 degree angle down to get it on the outside and inside of the neck at the same time.1 point

She said he was a student at D. A. Dorsey Technical College. According to family members they stated "He had a future ahead of him. Trevon had goals… he was a funny guy, very big on education, loved learning.” So this kid had all of this going for him and so smart yet he still felt he had to break into some ones home home and steal from them. They mentioned he loved learning. Well then he should have learned you don't break into someones home and steal from hem. His learning days are over.........jmho.1 point

I'd consider doing both the "find my phone" app and a car mounted GPS. I'd also install a dash mounted camera. Then I'd sit down with her and have a discussion with her. She has the freedom to use the vehicle and go where you allow her to go so far as she abides by your rules. You have the right to check on her vehicle operation skills and be able to locate her if you are concerned for her safety. Additionally the GPS and dash mounted camera can be used to provide a clear and unbiased representation of the facts if she's involved in an accident or is stopped by a police officer. If her friends have issues with this then they aren't true friends. If she has issues with this then she doesn't understand it can either save her life or save her drivers license.1 point

Honestly, when a family comes out after something like this and spouts things that basically say that it is okay for a person to go 'shopping' at someone else's house because that person was raised in the 'hood I do not feel a bit sorry for their loss. "Where will he get money for clothes." etc. Who cares? Where the hell do these people think the homeowner got the money for the stuff he was there to steal - from a friggin' pot of gold at the end of a rainbow? How is it that homeowner's responsibility to see that Trevon has clothes and so on? Screw the lot of them. Further, I don't feel a bit sorry for the dead guy, either, nor do I think his death is in any way a 'tragedy' or even a real loss. Bottom line: thug broke into middle-aged lady's house, middle-aged lady decided not to be a victim, thug got dead and won't be breaking into any more homes. The only sympathy I feel is for the homeowner who was dragged into this situation by the aforementioned thug.1 point

Any death is regrettable...period. But committing a robbery is not justification for school clothes money. At least not in my world.1 point

Well, this is probably the most thought of thing a prospective gunsmith "might think" he needs off the get go. When I went to gunsmith school in 1979, none of the students worked on any guns for the first couple of months. What we did do in that time was to learn how to properly use hand tools and machines to first make a 2" machinist square. The way they checked your work for flat is dribble talcum powder on the file cut flats of the square and see if it all scraped off with a straight edge and blocked out all the light from the ceiling lights once it had an edge placed on its edge. Only then did we move to making gunsmith tools like barrel vise & bushings and other things lick action wrenches and things like spring compressors. A number of people couldn't get the square right and they were asked to leave. The point being you have to have a true mechanical talent or else you will damage more things than you improve. One good place to start is get your self some knife kits that need to have wood handles fit to the tang, drilled, peened and hand filed, sanded and finished smooth with the tang. Sounds silly, but a lot of gunsmithing skill is used to make a perfect factory smooth finished knife handle. Maybe you have all ready figured this all out, and that makes a great start. As for clunker work guns, I see em at gun shows time from time and some gun shops have them in the back if you ask. Good Luck!1 point

The judge is a very fair man. Treat him, as all judges, with respect. Plead no contest, see him at the bench when he calls you up. Explain your driving record is great. 30 days of probation, (no tickets) and court costs (around $98??) no points, not reported to insurance is how it normally goes for respectful individuals. If the docket is loaded up, an officer of the court will advise a group to just pay up without points. Not sure that is accurate, and cannot find such in TCA. Always insist on seeing the judge.1 point
