1. When I think of all the years I served this country, have paid my taxes every year, work a full time job since graduating High School, and try to explain to my kids (All of which are now young adults) that this is the greatest nation and one of the best states to live in, I just can't get over feeling like a second rate citizen when I look at maps like the one in this link: "http://www.opencarry.org/maps/map-open-carry-of-a-properly-holstered-loaded-handgun/"   Just the other day I asked a very stubborn permit carrying individual the one question he had no answer for:  At the point in time when your permit expires, and you haven't got the money to pay for that renewal to your Constitutional right, do you think you're any less of a citizen of this country now that you can't legally carry your firearm outside of your own house? Yesterday you could, but today you can't!  Paying anything for your 2nd Amendment rights is just wrong.   Today it is our right to have and bear arms, tomorrow it may be that you can't speak your mind.  In fact, it is almost a hate crime already to say I'm a Christian and believe the Bible should dictate my behavior, morals, and ethics.   Every state that borders Tennessee except Georgia is an open carry state!  Even West Virginia gets it right on Constitutional Carry!

 3. I know 2 people with that tick borne illness. I use permethrin and bug spray when I'm in the woods. If I ever find a tick on me, I shower in dog flee and tick shampoo. Kills them dead! True story, at one point when I was a kid, I got into a nest of seed ticks. I literally had thousands buried in my skin. The only solution was dog flee and tick shampoo and it worked like a charm. The only side affect is that if you rub my stomach my left leg starts twitching.

 4. Yup, quickly accurate on COM to 150 yards or more with just cheek weld with iron sights, plenty of velocity with 5.56 out of 10.5" barrel or even shorter with softpoints or other expanding bullets, with 20-30 quick chances too. :) Can do it for 'bout same price as a Glock, so if stolen it's not the worst financial blow. Also, can legally carry it outside the vehicle in TN in normal times if necessary, and do it quite gray man if you keep it in something like this: Here's mine, lives in the above racquet case behind the seat in my toy truck: - OS

 7. I know everyone has seen a Glock 17 but I bought this several years ago used , oiled it up , stored it away for my son, and now today is the day :no1: My son is 18 years old today and we are so proud of him ! He has awesome grades in school and in 2 months will be going to college to become a history teacher . He has never gotten in trouble , has gotten great grades , and just a great son . When he was smaller he would watch me shoot and he loved it . I got him a small Marlin bolt-action single shot 22LR . He did great . He learned to shoot my Glock 22 and my personal Glock 17 . He loved them . He even has wanted me to show him how to reload 9mm and we are in the beginning stages of that . So when he gets home from school today , his Mom , Sister , and I have an awesome surprise for him ! I am so excited for him . He has no idea about this . I am so excited to see his face that it's like I am the one getting a present ! Sorry to ramble on and just wanted to share . [Uercel89/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_2975_zpswamhdxrc.jpg.html]

 8. I miss the days when military weapons had panache and style. Many of us grew up watching the awesome style daddies in movies and TV. Now, well not so much. Allow me to illustrate. Below is the 40 mm Bofor’s - our primary anti aircraft gun in the Pacific theatre. This is the gun where the barrel moves back and forth as it shoots. You see, this gun has class and style. Heck, these guns are so cool that Star Wars copied them. Next we have the present day 20 mm Phalanx. I don’t mean to hurt it’s feelings, though it would be much more at home in the movie “Minions”. Star Wars, not so much. Next check out the completely stylish military / law enforcement pistols from yesteryear. Now, coming to present day. egads!! Let’s take a look see at battle ships. Ultra cool vs fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Oh, and it doesn’t end there. Check out hip, slick and cool vs coyote ugly.

 9. It comes down to what you want... bolt, lever, semi. I'd go Marlin 336 30-30 for a best truck/deer hunting set up. It's tough, durable, faster than a bolt for defensive purposes, can put deer down out to 200, availabe ammo, lays flat under a truck seat without the bolt handle. I think the Ruger American you mentioned is a good choice if you'd rather have a bolt gun. I don't think a bolt gun makes quite as good of a dedicated "truck gun" as a lever, but what you want is important. An AR or AR pistol in 300 blackout is a great truck gun that is also a capable deer gun. To me, the bolt gun tips the scale towards hunting. The AR tips the scale towards a defensive truck gun. The lever gun balances the scale. Just my opinion though. Get the one you like best.

 15. Thanks guys . He was thrilled . He's learning to detail detail strip it now. I kinda wanted him to start out on one of my old Ruger P-Series to understand the conventional double action/single action semi-autos but he loved shooting the Glock 17 in the past so that is what I went with . He has shot my P-Series and likes them but seems to like the Glock slightly better.   I had always kept a Glock 22 hidden in the house to where him and me knew where it was in case of emergency . Now he has his own pistol to get out in case of emergency .

 17. I lost a cousin to a 6th or better offense DUI driver.    Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.    If it comes back that this tool was drunk during this altercation, I have zero pity on him. And I venture a guess based on the accomplices, and the extensive records of them all, for DUI, that he was in fact under the influence of something more than caffeine and nicotine.   If he was 100% sober and deacon of the local church on his way home from feeding the homeless, I might be able to drag out some pity. Maybe. Guilty is as guilty does. You run, you just forfeited your presumed innocence IMO. It all comes back to your choice of being tried by twelve, or carried out by six. If I am innocent, I am going to put my faith in twelve of my peers.

 18.   You appear to be fixated on officers being out of control here for some reason and throw out random opinions with no proof. It seems many here have simply taken it from granted the officer jumped into the truck bed to stop the driver. I don't know what he did, I'm not happy with what I've read and I'm completely disgusted reading all the anti-police-I hate cops-cops are criminals some of you are spewing out. If you want to act and sound like fools with nothing to prove as to the how and why then carry on.

 20.   Well, any "all purpose" tool is generally not optimum for any single purpose.   If you just leave optimal "long range hunting" (meaning say over 175 yards) out of the equation, you can meet the rest of them pretty well. I know you're "out west", but relatively few deer taken in east and middle TN past 150 yards, and inside that 5.56 and 7.62x39 work pert well, especially in push comes to shove situations where personal defense might be mission number one.   And while a bigger whomp bolt or lever gun might be better for deer, it's a sub par tactical choice for even a small group of two legged critters. :)   - OS

 21. 30-30 is easily good to 200 and with a lighter bullet you can push that a little more, probably get 300 if you were really careful with a stout handload.  I know the 30-30 is considered weak but goodness you can drop a deer at 100 with the right ammo using  357 or 44 in a rifle.    You want to kill it in one hit so a little overkill is not a bad thing but 30-30 is often treated like a .22 LR or something ...   An ak47 is a lot like a 30-30 except you can put more holes in the target (not talking deer ... you wanted a truck gun which implies a bug-out rifle of sorts).  Or a 300 BO AR.

 22. I wouldn't go with the youth model, but a 336 is a great option.  .30-30 is more than enough for deer sized game out to 200yrds, especially with some of the modern rounds.   I personally prefer the Winchester 94 because is it lighter and slimmer, but the Marlin makes mounting optics a lot easier.

 23. I recently bought a ruger American ranch in 5.56. They have threaded 16 inch barrels and also come in 300 black out. I've been using mine as a range toy but it would be great for a truck gun.

 25. Well guess what? We have someone ready for adoption! Cooper is feeling A LOT better. He has doubled in weight and is 6mo old now! With Cooper there are a few things to know. He will NOT just go to any home. Cooper is going to need someone who will love him and focus on him. He has been through hell and back and he is a VERY special dog. He can go to a home with another dog but I would prefer to keep it to single dog or two dog homes. I believe that more then that is overwhelming for him and he needs to be able to come out of his shell more. He is a huge snuggler and loves nothing more then to lay next to you and cuddle. You need to understand he is never going to be a stereotypical Pit Bull. First of all, it's possible he's mixed with something and secondly, since he was so emaciated, he will never be huge, super muscular or scary looking. Consider him Revenge of the Nerds instead of The Terminator. Coop is house broken and happy. He loves to eat. He has slight food aggression with other dogs, not humans. He eats in his crate to avoid issues with the puppies, but in time I think he can get over that. You have to remember how emaciated he was. He is very gentle and meek. Loud noises, voices make him nervous, yelling is a scary thing to him. He is NOT good around chickens. I do not know about cats or children. I would imagine with kids he would be OK, but again, as with any dog, parental supervision should be a given. He is a great guard dog. He alerts to anything he sees that he doesn't like or know. He will make a great dog for someone with love and patience to give. Liz and Red... They have about 3 more weeks to go. These two turds are ridiculously cute and while I would love for them to go to the same home I know it is not realistic. We are still working on crate and potty training. :wall: And while I am not saying they're jerks, they're for sure bullheaded. Believed to be 1/2 Boxer and 1/2 Pit but again, not 100%. Liz and Red both love to snuggle and eat. While not doing either of those hobbies they can be found napping, pooping or biting something. They're typical puppies. We are working on manners but at 8.5 weeks, I am lucky if they come when called. They will be ready for their forever homes in about 3.5 weeks. If you are interested in adopting one or any of these mutts please just send me a PM and we can discuss it. Please understand there are adoption fees involved. There is an application process, there will be an adoption contract required and you should have a home with a fenced in yard. I am fortunate that I have a husband who is patient so there is no rush for me to re-home them. They will be with us until the PERFECT home is found. I am not trying to sound like Satan, but you have to understand that these babies have been through a VERY rough start in life and I fully intend on nothing but the best for them. And as always, because I am a shameless puppy rescuing fool, our links to donation sites below. Thanks again and please feel free to PM me with any questions if you're interested in adoption! https://www.youcaring.com/coop-liz-ressler-and-red-516225 http://amzn.com/w/1T8GYU8KCI9XU

 34. Troy is too busy with DDI, he is their production supervisor. He said he will still do side work but he was going to be covered up for a long time.   Mike at Law Enforcement sales can fix you up. Great guy who does great work.   And as much as I do not want to see it can you post more pictures. If the shop really is that bad you need to make sure everyone sees everything they screwed up. What was he supposed to be doing to the gun? Building it up from parts or swapping the trunion?   Why is there a weld mark below the safety?

 37.   He may not have been at speed yet. I don't know what exactly happened, but I'm not jumping to unfounded conclusions and making bold statements (not referring to you here, but others). It's possible that the dunks where between the truck and the cruiser. The officer may have been dong his job, like cuffing one, when the driver bailed, jumped in the truck, put it in reverse in an attempt to ram or run over the officer, which then had no chance of escape other than to hop on the trucks bed. And since there was an attempt on his life, he had every right to shoot the driver.    That's of course only one possible scenario. We just don't know yet what happened. I'd like to see the officers video. But I highly doubt he ran behind the truck and leaped inside the bed because he has seen too many action movies.

 39. I know they are not the best way to carry a gun but I always wanted one for long car trips and occasional winter carry. Here is my attempt. I "borrowed" heavily from the Galco design. I'm happy with the way it turned out although I did make my mag pouch upside down! I realized it after I stitched it or I would have started over on that. I did my best to salvage it. Seems to work just fine. Thanks for looking. -southernasylum

 42. Well, I suppose I can add one more thing here. Back in 79, I attended Pennsylvania Gunsmithing School and a good part of that 18 month full time school was all about building custom rifles from blanks. Once all the physical attributes of the custom rifle's owner were properly converted to stock dimensions such as trigger pull length, drop of the comb off the line of sight, butt plate pitch and drop, the final test was simple. The rifle's owner was instructed to stand at a ready rifle position with a visual target in mind, close his eyes while looking at the target. Shoulder the rifle in one swift move and open his eyes. If the rifle "fit" him, he should be pretty darn close to have overlaid cross hairs on the target. A comfortable cheek weld at line of sight becomes a bit more prevalent for Trap/Skeet/bird hunters since time on target is in seconds. Not so much for deer hunters. I prefer a low as you can go scope on a rifle in classic Weaver rings simply because they are light weight and can be quickly screwed off the bases with the back edge of a knife to get at irons. You can throw all sorts of money at QD rings but Weavers work on everything. If I were to mount them on big kickers, put a dab of basic rubber cement in the ring saddle before you tighten em down. I tested that out on a Win 70 375 H&H that would clover leaf factory ammo consistently out of a cold barrel and the scope never budged. 2 extreme examples of a high comb offering good line of "scope sight" check welds are here in these 2 I built years ago.

 43. Win 10 crashed beyond recovery on both of my laptops. Just went south and none of the built-in tools could recover. One of the laptops is now happily running Win7 again, the other is being reloaded with apps after a Win10 reinstallation. I am much less than thrilled. At least one of them could become a Linux machine.

 45. Are you tired of carrying around the tools to adjust your gas block? ME TOO! It requires a LONG allen wrench for adjustment. This could get bent easily. I don't need to make frequent adjustments but as I play with different loads I have found accurate loads that don't cycle until I open up the gas flow. SO I do need the tool from time to time. To cut down on nasty crap in my action, I like to keep the gas as low as it will go and still cycle. Running a can is nasty and any help keeping it clean is welcome. I took two old crappy weaver rings, chucked them in the four jaw and mowed them down in the lathe. Then flipped them and drilled a thru hole. One I made a thumb screw for and my gas block adjustment tool holders were born. Gave them squirt of engine paint and put them on. Out of sight, out of mind and handy if I need it. Tune in next time for more Complicated Solutions to Non-Existent Problems!!!!
