When I was there in '04 a few of us would participate in the "Operation Pencil Box" where we went to villages and gave school supplies and sports equipment to kids. I really respected the fact that my Seniors understood that most of the population didn't give a dang if Hussien, US Soldiers or any other people were there, they just wanted to survive till the next day. It was a great opportunity to talk with village elders and general population. It's funny that I couldn't recall where any of the combatants that received my teams lead or we captured were Iraqi - the SIR reports almost always showed they were from another country. He'll many times we raided housing due to intelligence from the locals, they knew who wasn't from the area. Bought many a watermelons from farmers who for generations toiled the same earth for rich landowners, these guys kids will be doing what their father and grandfather did on that land. I've seen and cleaned up civilian vehicles ran over by tanks and thought - my brothers needed help, tank took the shortest route - I'm sorry this happened, wish it didn't but sadly brothers in uniform comes first. Not bragging, but I was the only CC that had an M249 as a primary and have used up more drums than I can remember. It breaks my heart that I have several battle buddies who choose to be on the streets, couldn't cope with all that happened. But to this day, those of us that are able to stay the path, those that have taken to the streets and those that have lost the will and took what arguably could be considered the weak mans route would not wish harm on the civilians in Iraq.5 points

What do you think those U.S. numbers would have been if we had a full scale amphibious invasion of the Japanese main land? My dad had fought with the 101st all through France, Belgium and Germany, he had done and seen enough but you know they would have sent combat hardened troops from Europe to the Pacific for an invasion. He did re-enlist in 46 and went to Japan as a part of the occupation army of Japan. That's where he met my mom, the daughter of an army captain in the signal corps. I might even owe my existence to the atomic bomb. Thank you atomic bomb. :)2 points

Essentially Offroad in Murfreesboro. Several member here have had work done there. Magnuson-Moss Act says that for the dealer to deny a warranty claim, they have to prove that your modifications were the direct cause of failure. They can't blame your lift for your power window regulator going bad, etc.2 points

From the Lebanon PD facebook page: Thank you everyone for your positive responses to our Safe Exchange Zone. We really think it will provide a safe environment for commerce. So, in addition to the Lebanon Police Department site, we are providing a secondary site at our Public Safety/Emergency Services Unit location, 1017 Sparta Pike. Gun exchanges WILL BE ALLOWED at this location. The reason gun exchanges are not allowed at the police department is due to our City Court process and general public access to the department. We want to safeguard citizens and civilian personnel at that location. However, our ESU location, while also safe and under 24 hour surveillance, does not have public access or court proceedings. The picture below shows the area designated for the Safe Exchange Zone, and signs will be posted in the very near future. We hope this will satisfy all the needs of those wishing to participate. Again, thank you for your support. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1215499075140421&id=134190043271335&substory_index=0 Location 1017 Sparta Pike, Lebanon, TN 37087 https://goo.gl/maps/cUJGMRXSuFD21 point

Classic has the only remaining primary market M39's left, as they purchased the rest of the rifles that John Burns imported directly from Finland in the late 90's. As for the "brand", get what you want, the VKT's are rarer than the SAKOs but a lot of people favor the SAKO rifles as that's a recognizable stamping from the later rifles they made for the civilian market, VKT was the Finnish state arsenal and never produced later rifles for civilian sales. An unscrubbed Eagle is pretty much luck of the draw, a lot of the M39's are scrubbed but some managed to miss that particular modification. The hang tag is of interest to collectors, but it's not something that is highly valued. From what I've seen of the M39's that Classic has left in stock, you are more likely to get a post-war refurbed rifle ( a "pretty" one) by choosing the SAKO option, a lot of the VKT's seem to be in wartime condition with the requisite "character marks" normally associated with those guns. Those are the ones I normally look for, I like the "been there and done that" look myself ...1 point

I'm glad you are getting one of the M39s to start with. They are high quality guns and the ones that Classic Firearms has are priced fairly. The SKS's are nice guns, though I would get the M39 if in your shoes. I would recommend a Sako over the VKT. I have both a VKT and a Sako and the Sako is much nicer. Classic Firearms made some big mistakes when they had their first shipment of the M39s and a lot of folks getting a Sako and a lot of folks didn't get what was described. One of our TGO folks paid for a Sako hand select the the stock was cracked. To their credit, Classic admitted their mistake and made changes to improve. In my opinion, the hang tag is over rated at $25. It would appeal to collectors. You can google 'M39 hang tag', and click on the images tab to see what they look like. My recommendation would be to get a Sako and pay the $20 for hand select. If you have money left over, you may look at the un issued SKS over the M48 if you can afford it and if you like semi automatic rifles. The M48s are nice, no doubt, though you'll already have a vintage military bolt action and the SKS rifles are a lot of fun. I'm a WW2 history enthusiast. The M48 definitely has more historical significance than the SKS. Having said that, a lot of NVA and Viet Cong used the SKS in the Vietnam War. Pic below.1 point

Yes, it's crazy. They estimated either one million troops or one million casualties invading Japan. You aren't the only TGO'r that may not be here if we had to invade.1 point

About 10 years ago we ordered a glass microwave plate (the glass tray that goes in the microwave) off ebay and it never came. When we filed with Paypal they said, "oh your too late, the guy has closed his account and we can't get your money back." I was pretty pissed. However, ebay and paypal have gotten much better about being on the buyer's side now and especially if they don't ship anything.1 point

Haaa, when I started driving in High School I used to get asked, do you have any pot in this car? Maybe because of my long hair and Black Sabbath t-shirt. I got to watch all that hair hit the floor at the reception center at Ft. Jackson after graduation.1 point

I went with the 29. Put the 10 round mag in for concealed carry and put the 15 round mag in for woods carry. Great pistol with plenty of versatility.1 point

I love e-bay, and pay-pal. There is a delivery agreement with the sales on e-bay. When they're not met, there are certain steps to take on e-bay, I can say with experience, they have your back. I buy everything I can directly from China, it saves me about 50%. Delivery from there is about 45 days sometime. Be sure to check the gear ratio, (turn the out-put 360* and count the revs on the yolk.)1 point

30x30? No grass. Make a flowerbed. Plant low maintenance, shade tolerant perennials such as hosta, ferns, bleeding heart, coleus, spirea, astilbe, etc. They'll fill in and choke out the weeds in a few years. Mulch it in the spring before everything comes out and it's pretty with essentially zero maintenance all summer.1 point

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt pocket/purse-sized Taser. The effects of the Taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety...?? WAY TOO COOL!!! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home...I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time, I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what the burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two AAA batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and then thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong? So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and Taser in another. The directions said that: A one second burst would shock and disorient your assailant. A two second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; and A three second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting batteries. All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference (loaded with two itsy, bitsy AAA batteries) pretty cute really, and thinking to myself, "no possible way"!! What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best. I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side so as to say, "Don't do it stupid", reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny lil ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad...I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and ..... HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. WHAT THE ....!!!! I'm pretty sure Hulk Hogan ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs! The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room. Note- If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a Taser one note of caution: There is NO such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by violent thrashing about on the floor!! A three second burst would be considered conservative! A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace.*The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. *My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. *My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. *I had no control over the drooling. *Apparently I had crapped in my shorts, but was too numb to know for sure, and my sense of smell was gone. *I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head, which I believe came from my hair. I'm still looking for my testicles and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return! My wife can't stop laughing about my experience, loved the gift and now regularly threatens me with it! If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!1 point

I have used SMP 842 and it helped me shoot the best group I ever have with my AR. It cycled 100% with 53 grain SMK's as well as my 69 SMK load. I got some sub 1/2" groups at 122 yards during load development. And after about 60 rounds you couldn't hardly tell the AR had been shot. I like it so much I am getting ready to load 1,000 rounds using it. Those rounds are going to be part of my stash. David, DLM37015 on here, sells it at the shows for around $100 for an 8 pound jug. For the money it can't be beat. David also sells the primed brass and 62 grain bullets to make your own M855 rounds. You should be able to load 1,000 rounds for under $250. Dolomite1 point
