  1. this story can't be true. the news tells me criminals get their guns through a loophole in the gun show laws, or order them on the internet without a background check.

  3. Why? So innocent people will die and ISIS can celebrate it as a failing of western society?

  5. We all know and love this photo. It was taken 71 years ago on Feb 23rd. This is on Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima. The flag was raised by five Marines and a sailor. In a nod to the Army and Air Force, there are a couple of pics of them below. The pic below is from the Battle of Midway. Midway was the turning point of the war in the Pacific.

  11. Grass is something I always want to develop some expertise in, but never quite get around to getting up to par.   Couple that with my general laissez faire attitude towards yard maintenance, and you can imagine the state my lawn is in at any given time.

  20.   EXCELLENT question to ask. Anyone who doesn't seriously consider this is asking for trouble, IMHO. As one who also switches a lot, I feel 100% sure I can draw and fire any of the handguns in my rotation.    It helps that I avoid buying guns with manual safeties and would never even consider carrying any of mine that do have a manual safety.  Also, I practice drawing whichever one I'm carrying several times before I leave the house, so I don't get caught off guard.   I wonder how many people would get fouled up by something as simple as changing from an unbuttoned cover garment to a pullover to a zip-up jacket. Switching from OWB to IWB or pocket carry seems more risky to me than switching from one gun to another when the carry method stays the same.

  21. I have TFOs on my XD-s and had them on 2 other previous guns. They are hands down my favorite handgun sights.   If they made them for CZs, I'd buy a set for all 7 or 8 of my CZs.

  23. WW2 ended on August 15, 1945. The US Army Air Force didn't become the US Air Force until September 18, 1947.   The USAF did fly the P-51 Mustang though, well into Korea when they were replaced by the new-fangled jet fighters by the end of 1953. They saw some limited service in specialty roles up through the 1960s, but very few.

  35.   The first part of that statement is true, but the second, maybe not so much. The Fw-190 and the Bf-109 (Messerschmitt 109) were not quite so far behind the P-51. The P-51 had a big advantage in pilot visibility and who sees the other first often fired first and won. +1 to the Mustang. It was also faster (though only slightly more so than the Fw-190) and had a longer range. The range thing was great for our bombers, but really didn't matter when it was fighter v. fighter. What that range did was allow the P-51 to get in the fight in the first place which is what changed the casualty rate so drastically. I suspect that if the older P-40 had the range of the P-51, it would have been a formidable fighter in its own right against the Nazis and would have kept that casualty rate lower from the start. Overall, the P-51 performed better at high altitudes while the German fighters performed better at low altitudes. Depending on the mission, either side could have had the advantage, but the P-51's high altitude advantage certainly helped on the bomber escorts. Luftwaffe pilots would often dive for the deck upon engaging the P-51s trying to get them to follow to where they'd have the advantage. The Fw-190 was tougher than the P-51, more like the older P-47 Thunderbolt but not quite as tough as that tank with wings. The Bf-109 outgunned the Mustang, especially with its late-in-the-war bomber-attack armament of 2 x 13mm machineguns, 2 x 20mm machineguns, and 1 x 30mm cannon. The P-51 carried 4 or 6 x cal .50 machine guns depending on model.   In the end, The P-51 was the better aircraft, but a skilled Luftwaffe pilot was a force to reckon with in either the Fw-190 or the Bf-109. I'd say that before the P-51 it was like fighting K98s with trench guns. After the P-51 it was like fighting K98s with Lee Enfield Mk 4s.

  36. I sent a message regarding the legitimacy of this endeavor. Here is the response I received: "Paul, thanks for the information. We can offer up our official website as proof it's not a scam: http://www.friendsofsycamoreshoals.org/ We've been involved in this endeavor for about a year, and only recently began doing large scale advertising on Facebook, and also have contracted with Lamar to put up billboards in select areas. Thanks so much for your help!" I looked into it before giving them $35. I was comfortable enough to do it, but it's understandable that some may question the legitimacy.

  37. Eliminating the criminal penalty for the no gun signs does not mean that private property owners will not be able to ask people to leave.  Most states do not have this sort of law and business owners still can ask people to leave their property.  A business owner in Tennessee can ask you to leave right now without any sort of no gun sign because again that is a trespass issue.   The weapons charge that is a Class B Misdemeanor is worse than the Class C Misdemeanor trespass charge.  A weapons conviction can cause you to have your permit suspended and your firearm confiscated.  Since trespass is not a weapons issue, the problem probably would not affect your permit or involve your gun being confiscated if you were asked to leave and you did not leave.     Sometimes I wonder why pro gun people would not want restrictions reduced on their ability to carry legally.  Isn't the whole point of paying for the permit so that you do not have to worry about a weapons charge and dealing with your gun being taken?   If you go to downtown Memphis or Nashville, you will see what a pain it is to legally carry both in the local government owned buildings and private property due to these no gun signs.
