Man, it feels like I havent logged into TGO in a year! Really though its only been 3 months. Between college, family, and work I truly dont know whether I'm coming or going sometimes! Anyways I just wanted to drop in and share some good news with my fellow TGO'ers. The news that the wife and myself are expecting our 2nd addition to the family in July! Our 6 year old daughter is ecstatic about it, but has already declared she WILL NOT be changing any diapers. Lol, hope everybody is doing well!3 points

I've got a printed copy of our amortization schedule in my top drawer. Every month when I pay the mortgage, I make the mortgage payment, and then find the next month's portion to principal, and pay that amount as well. I then cross both payments off the list. It's one of the most satisfying things I do every month. To each their own, but I'd much rather be totally out of debt and make the decisions about where my money goes than to just simply be content with, "mortgage interest is deductible." At the very least, print an amortization schedule on your mortgage and play around with it some. You'll be offended when you see the interest numbers - especially in the first half of the repayment period. I'd agree with others - pay off the cars first and get some rainy day savings squared away. But following that, feel good about putting the money towards your mortgage.3 points
-
Look at it this way. If your home was paid for, would you take out a home equity line of credit at a low rate and put that money in the stock market? If not, then pay off the mortgage. One thing your boss is forgetting is that when you no longer have a mortgage, you'll have the entire monthly payment as free cash flow for yourself to do with whatever you choose. Besides that, anyone who would advise me that walking away is a good option doesn't have the moral foundation to give me advice on anything.3 points

+1 on UTG pro slim. Several of us on the forum have installed them over the past year. And most, like myself, we're hesitant because of older UTG product quality. They did a really good job with this though.3 points

I mentioned doing a build thread in the PSA AR10 thread so here it is: I own several AR's and wanted something different, so I got a wild hair and decided to do one in 308. I want this to be a budget build, but it needs to be reliable and accurate enough to make hits on a 12" gong at 600yds.....something that the 308 is more than capable of. I decided on Aero receivers as they seem to be good quality...not the best, but not the worst. From my reading, they seemed to be a better choice than PSA so I caught one on sale at Brownells for $150. I'll put the price breakdown later but here are the receivers. I actually ordered them from different places so they weren't a matched set or anything. However, they fit great and the finish is the same on both and everything seems good to go. There are a few rough marks on the inside of the upper where the BCG rides. Hopefully it won't cause any issues, but we shall see. I had some parts laying around, so that will help with overall cost. Here is what I have on order: Ballistic advantage 16" premium barrel - guaranteed 1moa or less using match ammo AIM nitride bcg - all my research says this is a great bcg for the money 308 buffer and spring receiver extension and endplate Aero pins - these are longer than a standard LPK midlength gas tube Forward assist kit Parts I had on hand: Kies adjustable gas block BCM gunfighter grip LPK Magpul ACS-L stock specwar muzzle brake Still need to order: handguard - not sure what I want to go with yet. Thinking either MI or SLR in 14" or 15" geissele trigger Optic Raptor charging handle Here is what I've got so far: 2 points

Oh Mark, you just said four of my favorite words. Mississippi. Hogs. 300. G40. I know this is sudden, but maybe we should be best friends? Just think on it. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk2 points

What DaveTN said, however there are some local shops that won't accept a C&R, others that will want to run a background check anyway. The online stores who regularly deal in C&R guns (Classic, AIM, SOG, etc.) will file your info as they would any transfer between FFL's, in fact most of them have a system by which you can upload a copy of your certificate in advance, then your subsequent purchases will automatically pull the document up when you checkout.2 points

Where would you have beating that thus far this year? All you borrow to invest guys aren't calculating risk into your business plan.2 points

And it can turn around on you and start costing you for the payback cost plus whatever capitol you lost in the investment. Always remember you are taking a bet in an investment. Thanks Robert2 points

I personally think you would be better off getting a Magpul Slim or regular MOE handguard. You won't have to take anything off, it won't weigh a ton, and you can still mount rails if you want them. Like this.2 points

Correct me, if I'm wrong. Sounds like you want a handguard that will cover/hide the gas block. Judging from the pic you have a carbine length gas system, so you'll be looking for a 12" or 13" handguard. There's a lot more options with a free float handguard. If this is your rifle for having fun at the range and you aren't trying to impress everyone, just look around eBay and get one in your price range. Look for one that's 13" or longer, make sure it comes with a barrel nut, and be wary of a super slim design (it may not fit over your gas block, so check the inner diameter carefully and match it against the height of your gas block). You can find quite a few between $50 and $75 that will serve their purpose long enough for you to change your mind again later and go another route (most of us do). If this is your battle rifle and/or the one you strap on to impress your neighbors while you mow the yard, you may want a reputable name brand that is built a little sturdier. It'll be better built, will last longer, have better mounting hardware, and will have stronger picatinny rails. Your options start with a very serviceable and well made UTG rail or Mid-West Industries and go all the way up to the barely more functional but much more prestigious brands like Noveske and Geissele. This is your only real option, if you ask the AR snobs over on AR15.com, who think they are all high-speed operators. In the end, it's your Barbie doll, you can dress her up for the prom or your can dress her up for around the house...totally your call.2 points

I am not a money guru, but my wife is. She built the house in 97 and she would pay a half payment extra a month. I don't remember when she originally planned to have the house paid off. When I came along and our monies combined she doubled the payment. The house has been paid off for almost 10 years now. Our vehicles, motorcycles and camper is paid for. We do not carry debt, period. I follow my wife's plan, she pays for everything on a credit card and pays that card off every month. We do no let that debt ride month to month, as such no interest is paid. We usually get a few grand in cash back at the end of the year. Not too shabby since we don't pay interest. And since we are debt free, she pays the max amount in to her retirement accounts. What works for other people may not work for you. Take what advise you can and apply to your needs as you see fit. Good luck.2 points

My $.02... if you're worried about weight, think about a slim keymod rail. Quad rails are heavy. Much lighter to just put a couple rail pieces where you need them. I like the look of a longer rail, and the newer slim stuff allows that without a lot of weight. I'm about to dump a 13" YHM quad rail for a slim keymod on an older build I have from back when quad rails were all the rage.2 points

Fluke 117 or if you want to go bad ass a fluke 177 is top of the line. The 117 is fast rugged almost water resistant and is easy on 9v batteries. I use one almost daily at work. It should work great for your grandkids one day. I can get whatever I want but for a digital mm go 117, avoid the 115 as it takes to long to show dcvoltage hope this helps PS fluke leads and accessories are awesome! Sears makes a nice accessory kit for meters for 20 bucks2 points

Fluke. Pay once, cry once. Mine is about 20 years old now and still running strong. I used it for a decade in some of the nastiest industrial environments.2 points

Debt free living is a great thing. Have a reserve for emergencies. Payoff highest interest loans first. Then pay the house off as fast as you can. Once you are debt free your life will change completely.2 points

Hah! I've got to get the g40 first. I had one in my hands headed to fill out the paperwork when a little voice told me to put it back. The next couple of days we spent a few bucks unexpectedly so it all worked out but it is on my list. I just turned my dirt guy loose on installing the septic system on the world's slowest retirement house build. Once I know the final damage from that I will be able to reassess the g40...1 point

Yes, In theory... this should work every time. In practice... This thinking had folks with a $30K income buying a $1M house and just paying interest since the growth on the real estate "investment" was outpacing their interest giving them more than 2-3 points leverage. Hello downturn, all this goes on its head. In all fairness, if you can leverage and sleep at night, go baby go. I hope you make so much money you can't spend it all. I just don't think it's for me.1 point

Sam Henderson has invite all us TGO 1911 shooters to his match. 3rd Annual Uncle Sam's Single Stack Championship will be held June 25th at Brocks Gap Training Center. Brush the dust off that 1911 that you're "thinking about shooting one day", and join us. Fun frivolity, and BBQ. What more can you ask for? It's a great match down the road in Birmingham. They usually give away a couple guns. Lunch is BBQ from SAMs restaurant. Always good. It's always a sell out. I'll post more info when I get it.1 point

Oh, they'll slow it down for sure. Gotta give a show or two to the writers/directors to "practice their craft" and explore feelings rather than getting down to business killing zombies.1 point

Pro tip: go to the pawn shops around NADC on Gallatin rd. All of the students that drop out sell their multimeters. Don't buy new before checking those places first. I should ad that the required multimeter for NADC is Fluke.1 point

Im sure it has already been said (I wasnt about to read all 3 pages) but I have one of each. I have a CMMG Mk3 in 308 and a 300 blk SBR. BLUF, you should get both, they are two totally different platforms. The 300s pros Can hunt with (what I prefer for hog and deer) Can use for CQB/home defense Great with suppressor Perfect to SBR Mags same as your 556 300 Con's Significant bullet drop compared to 308 on average for long distance Expensive ammo 308 pros Good with suppressor as well (if hunting, takes the bite off of it) Longer distance Ammo cheaper Cons Heavy (carry it in the field for 3 days vs a 300 sbr and you will cuss leaving the other at home...ammo is heavier too) Hardware for AR10 mostly not compatible with AR15 Not good for home defense Did I mention its heavy?? I bring up the HD because I use my 300 for that as well. I only use the 308 for hunting. But if you get a 308 suppressor and are thinking about eventually getting both I both an AAC SR7 and its compatible with my 308, 300, and 556 (and soon my 6.8). Hope that helps (but I probably just regurgitated what the rest of these smart fellas already told ya) Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk1 point

I moved here from Michigan and could carry inside the capitol building. We could go see our representatives fully armed. There is absolutly no valid reason to prohibit HCP holders from doing the same here in Tennessee. In MI. a HCP holder can also carry OPENLY into a school. You can openly carry in MI. without any license. Its an unlicensed open carry state unlike here in TN where its licensed carry only. I believe that to be unconstitutional to require a permit to carry in public. All states, except constitutional carry states, regulate concealed carry. MI does require registration of handguns. I am glad TN does not. What will it take to get our legislators to realize that people who legally obtain their firearms and submit to getting their state permission slip to exercise their rights are not the threat/problem? Its just easier to get law abiding people to obey stupid laws because its the law. Those dog gone criminals just wont listen or obey some stupid law so its a waste of time to go after them. Gun control is not about guns, its about control.1 point
