I have uploaded a YouTube video as evidence that everything was on the up-and-up. There were some technical difficulties which prevented me from recording any audio. Two winners were chosen for the 6-month TGO Benefactor subscription, one winner for the 1-year TGO Benefactor subscription, and two winners for the TGO Lifetime Benefactor subscription. All qualifying members who participated in the giveaway were entered for a chance to win one of the two 6-month TGO Benefactor subscriptions. Qualifying members with a post count of 1000 or more were entered for a chance to win the 1-year TGO Benefactor subscription. Qualifying members with a post count of 2000 or more were entered for a chance to win one of the two TGO Lifetime Benefactor subscriptions. Winners were chosen using Random.org. After the names were entered, I clicked "randomize" the first time to mix up the names. The second and third clicks were to choose the winners. Winners 6-month TGO Benefactor subscription - musicman - i1afli 1-year TGO Benefactor subscription - macville TGO Lifetime Benefactor subscription - R1100R - Ugly I would like to thank Fourtyfive and the anonymous member who offered additional TGO Benefactor subscriptions, making this giveaway even more fun. I greatly appreciate your generosity, and I know the rest of TGO does as well. For those who didn't win, there's always next year. In the meantime, please consider purchasing your very own TGO Benefactor subscription over that the TGO Store. It's $20 for a 6-months, $35 for 1-year, and I believe (I can't see it for some reason) it's $150 for a Lifetime Benefactor subscription. For many of us, TGO is an invaluable wealth of information and entertainment. I don't have any inside information, but I imagine it's quite costly, keeping TGO up and running as smoothly as they do. I'd like to wish all members of TGO and their families a very Merry Christmas, and a very Happy New Year! 13 points

On behalf of my family and the TGO Staff, I would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas! I hope that you find yourself in the company of family, friends or loved ones this Christmas -- or at the very least, warm, happy and safe doing something that you truly enjoy. If you are one of our many members who are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces and you are away from your family, especially if you are serving downrange somewhere, my special prayer for you is that you and your brothers in arms are kept safe and that you find a way to celebrate Christmas with those around you. We here at home enjoy the safety to observe the holidays due to the sacrifices men and women like you make every day, and it does not go unnoticed or forgotten. And last but certainly not least, I leave you with this video which is making its rounds quite virally this season. I hope that you enjoy it. https://vimeo.com/5564190012 points

First of all, please let me clarify. This post was not 100% directed at the forum in general. I sat and re-read it 4 times. I read it outlaid to my husband before I posted it and I even closed my phone and had a long conversation with him because I know how much he cares about this forum. This post was at things I read last night and after a few weeks of seeing negative things said about women and guns recently I think it was a breaking point for me. My husband was right last night. I am not like most women. I like buying shoes. Mostly sneakers and boots because I'm practical. My "purse" is usually a larger messenger type of bag to carry extra mags, a Fenix flashlight, my GT knife and anything that you might need from dental floss to chapstick to bandaids. So yes, clearly I might be more like most of you than a "regular" woman who would want to spend her money at the Coach store or Nordstrom's. For me last night it was what I stated in my original comment. There was a post about "putting it in woman terms" when if I had wrote it the way the author was talking, I would have chosen to say "because it was a great deal" or "since I saved money". It's a bit like race. Sometimes we use terms that most don't find offensive while others are slightly offended. I wasn't offended last night, it was just one little snow flake that landed on a stick that couldn't hold any more snow. I didn't say I wanted men to stop grumbling. If there is one thing I have noticed about this board it's that it's like a bar where everyone sits and talks without being face to face. And like I also said, I realized that not everyones relationships or bank accounts are the same. So if someone needs to get "permission" to buy a gun from their wife, that's ok. I would call it making a sound financial decision that won't cause the house to go into foreclosure, but if we need to call the right time to buy a gun "permission" then ok. As for the caliber thing, that was something I witnessed on TV, but I see it at stores too. I also see it on here sometimes when people talk about recoil and other things, I get it. But like I said, it shouldn't be something that is just assumed because a woman is a woman and not a man. I guess what I am talking about is just issues that I see that cause a rift in an area that could use support from all sexes. You sir, are too nice. I have never felt unwelcome. I have never felt anything directed at me. It's just somethings the things that are posted make me want to face palm myself in disbelief. I guess it's just going to be the way it is. And thats OK. But I just had to say it out loud. In closing, I'm not an equal wages kinda girl. I don't give a crap if a man gets a job over me. I don't care that men are generally stronger than women (trust me, we know the take down points on a man). If you are a Netflix member do me a favor and watch "Morgan Spurlock: Inside man" Season 1 Episode 2. The whole episode in general will piss you off because it is just a piece of crap thrown together. But watch the women in it, watch how they talk, watch the men who interact with them. I know not even woman is going to be like me and I get that. I know that there are some women who will never like a .45 or 10mm. I know there are some who will never even touch a gun in their whole lives. I feel sorry for them. I guess I just wanted to say what I see and what I think of it. Luckily we don't all have to agree.7 points

There are over 20,000 members of TGO; all of them I assume to be gun owners. I don't know how many players there are in the NBA, but I'm sure it's considerably less. NBA players have shot more people than members of TGO. The NBA can pull their lip over their head and swallow.6 points

This may have been on here before, not sure but it's worth reading againl Husband and Wife Christmas Shopping A couple were in a busy shopping center just before Christmas. The wife suddenly noticed that her husband was missing and as they had a lot to do, so she called him on the mobile. The wife said " Where are you, you know we have lots to do." He said "You remember the jewelers we went into about 10 years ago, and you fell in love with that diamond necklace? I could not afford it at the time and I said that one day I would get it for you?" Little tears started to flow down her cheek and she got all choked up… "Yes, I do remember that shop." she replied. "Well I am in the gun shop next door to that."6 points

On behalf of the testosterone laden, bearded, knuckle dragging, chauvinistic, loud mouthed, smelly, cigar smoking(my wifes' usual commentary) redneck, and largely male(if not true manly men) here; I would like to offer an apology for any of us who has made you feel in the slightest way uncomfortable or unwelcome. You have been exactly as you've self-described yourself and very welcome as a change in the balance of power here. Ok so that's really a lie, the power structure still resides in TGO David and his minions....But never feel unwelcome or unwanted. Seriously, you are welcomed here as a gun nut, not just as a pair of boobs as earlier mentioned; but with full rights to enjoy and say within reason anything you want. If one of us has offended you by something said or written, chalk it off to male jealousy and move on. I, for one, blonde jokes aside; am glad to see the "fairer sex" involved in shooting sports and hunting. Hell, most women I know shoot better I do anyway, and that includes my wife. That took some getting used to. lol If not for arthritis and some carpal nerve issues, she would be shooting right alongside me every time I went out. Showing me up and enjoying it thoroughly. And to end on a less serious note, at the risk of offense and ban hammer, and to reference that funny but crude Richard Pryor, I'll say this. Don't sweat it. Men and women have never been equal. Women have been leading men around by the short arm since the Garden of Eden. They got half the money and all the .........!4 points

I'd add that gay dudes have it way harder here (pun intended). Some of the threads in the past have had some pretty exclusionary language in it which I assume keeps some gun enthusiast who happen to be gay from participating here. Same goes for Muslims. Other than poking fun or having breasty avatars, I just don't see negative attitudes towards women here. Chicks do chick stuff, and it's funny. They also have boobs and most of us like those.4 points

You want men to stop grumbling to fellow men about how the intricacies of marital finances limit what guns they can get and when. Yeah, I don't see that happening. I'm sure if you go far back enough, you'd see something on the subject written as an epitaph on a Roman tombstone. As to the whole what calibers women can shoot and all that...if the don't want the LGS salesman driving them towards .380 or 9mm, they need to remember the customer is always right. Tell the guy you want to see the .45's or 10mm's, and if they make an ass out of themselves, ladies can take their business elsewhere. Word will get out on who treats their customers with respect and who treats them as fragile little things that need a man to keep a hand on their back as they shoot. Maybe I'm just oblivious to it but I don't see much negativity towards women here. Aside from the jabs at Hillary of course. Most here that post about such things as getting permission to buy a gun or hiding it from them when they do buy it, comes from the actual situation they live in. Believe it or not most women would rather go clothes or shoe shopping than gun shopping. A lot of women do need to start with a lighter recoiling caliber and/or something easier to rack the slide on. Women have less physical strength than men it's just how we are made. You like big bores, cool. I know several men, even big old country boys that don't care for a .45acp as a defensive caliber. They prefer the 9mm or .380acp. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we welcome all members regardless of gender. You even have your own subforum ;) I really would like to hear what comments you found offensive. Maybe I or some of the other members could shed some light on why they said that or the train of thought behind it. I highly doubt anyone meant to have a condescending tone towards female shooters.3 points

I see no merit in Tennessee not honoring permit holders from Virginia. There is nothing to gain by keeping good law abiding Virginians from carrying here, they are on our side, they are our brothers, and we should welcome and encourage them to carry here. I don't think the Virginia politicians behind this measure would give a rat's behind if Tennessee doesn't honor Virginia permits.3 points

After getting some advice from TGO members about pistols with full left hand controls, my Wife and I made a visit to a couple of lgs and looked at the FNS9C, M&P9C, and the P320 Compact. The winner was the Sig P320 with the M&P a close second. My Wife is hoping to save so we can pick it up sometime in January or February. What she doesn't know is that I have already planned on this. Business is good and we are Blessed to be in a very good time of our lives. There will be one more gift under the tree for Christmas morning. I'm safe posting this here for now because she hasn't started visiting TGO. I would expect that to change sometime soon. Thank you all for your advice and input. I hope that everyone has a Very Merry Christmas full of Blessings. Bob2 points

You have a real AK straight out of Russia! Convert it and enjoy. The PSA's are nice but I can tell you I had to fit every part that went on the gun. Cut down the top cover, open up the recoil spring lugs, buttstock, handguards. The top cover and recoil spring lugs took quite a bit. I just got the barreled receiver to try out. Nice gun, but just something to be aware of.2 points

I'll take a swing at this. Mars' full name was James Shannon Elder. He served our country in Viet Nam and in various civilian contractor roles for alphabet-soup agencies afterward. He spent a great deal of his time after Viet Nam in places south of the equator, doing the work that rough men do to keep evil at bay. Most of what he told me about involved drug interdiction and working to arm and train indigenous people in those countries to fight against the cartels. On the forums, here and over on HK94.com, he was a respected staff member. He was keenly intelligent, well read, and well traveled. He enjoyed sharing what he knew about firearms (in particular the Heckler and Koch variety) and wouldn't shy away from discussing world events or politics from the sort of finely distilled vantage point of someone who had done plenty of fighting other people's wars for them. We will never know exactly why, but on September 19, 2008 he took his own life at his home in Blountville. I and others had picked up hints from him that he was struggling with the early onset of Alzheimer's and he had said that he greatly detested the idea of losing control of his mental faculties or becoming a burden for others. Compounding this, he had also recently gone through a divorce and the parting -- while amicable -- weighed heavily on him. His passing came pretty early on in our history here at TGO, when we were much smaller. It hit me hard, personally, as I believe it did many others as well. It's no surprise to me that one of his threads ("What are you listening to now?") is one of the longest running on TGO. Some of us keep it going just to see Shannon's screen name in our recent posts feed. This likely doesn't scratch the surface of all that could be said about the guy. Hopefully others will share too. Frankly I think I'll raise a glass to Shannon's memory tonight. Maybe we can start a thread about that. :)2 points

Well, I guess I will throw my 2 cents in here. I have been around guns all my life and my wife that passed away in 97 had not been. After a short time she was at the range with me shooting guns till she found the one she felt the most comfortable with. It was a 380 caliber. She shot all of my guns and that was the one she settled on. So that was what I bought her. She carried it with her all the time as she was a Home Health Care Nurse and sometimes had to come home late at night. We would go to the range monthly to stay crisp. At the present time I own a couple heavy caliber hand guns and have ammo for all of them yet I choose to carry a Model 85 380 Bersa. As I have gotten older and my poor health has began to so up more I am more comfortable with the 380 than I would be with a 1911 or a Tokarev.............jmho I also wish more women would get involved in firearms, not necessarily because I consider them a weaker sex but because they would be able to defend themselves in situations that they would other wise be a victim. I would also like to read posts from lady shooters and get their views on things. My son taught his wife to shoot everything he owns which is quit a number of long and hand guns. She also prefers a smaller caliber firearm so she also chose a 380. Mind you she is 5"1' and weighs about 100 pounds but I saw her shoot her 380 and I damn sure would not want her shooting at me. Now with that said I also think that there are probably many men out there that would rather not have a girlfriend or a wife that knows about guns or has one of their own. I think most of it is a complex some men have about a firearm is a manly thing which is a crock of crap. It is not a man thing. It is a choice thing to them. I say welcome to all lady shooters and hope we have more of them join and contribute to our forums...................  :up:2 points

Was standing in line on a standby flight. The agent at the ramp entrance asked 2 small kids if they were ready for their surprise visitor tomorrow, she kept asking , and they said they didn't know who was coming till the little boy said Allah to the airline agent. The agent turned 3 shades of red as the kids momma said they don't do xmas. An older guy standing behind me said sheeeeyut. I did all I could to keep from laughing. On a side note I was very disappointed that I didn't hear folks wishing each other merry xmas in the cordial fashion most of us are used to. To all my friends of all denominations, happy holidays and merry xmas. Christ is still the reason behind Christmas. To those who are so sensitive to the point where the sheeple have to be careful over offending someone over this; pls carry your man jammy contractor bag wearing ninja butts back to the amusement park you came from,if you can't what respect OUR holiday. They must have paid him to say that. I think they are a little overpriced, but Sigs in general are a little high. It isn't much more than some of their models. Like others have said, if it has the features you like, then go for it. They will probably keep their value a little better than most Sigs.1 point

Seems you might be on to something...not necessarily on TGO but most definitely out and about. Yesterday we didn't have time to get to my go to store Guns and Leather. We ended up going to a newer place near MJ. Place was fairly empty three people working there or at least they were employees. After about 5 minutes on guy comes over and asks if we need anything? My son explains to him we are looking for a holster for my wife. Instanty disinterested in helping at all now. Next he starts reading a text on his phone and walks away. Nice customer service there! So I am not sure how women became second class citizens with regards to exercising their rights? Rant off1 point

Consider the fact that you aren't a typical woman. I imagine that most guys are posting comments out of their experience with women concerning guns. I know that my wife's attitude and desires aren't anywhere close to yours when it comes to guns and self-defense. My wife has a .38 spl S&W 642 to have around here in case I'm not around to protect her. She does not practice with it nor harbors any will to do so. She only shoots it when I drag her with me when I go shooting. She is intolerant of semi-automatics at all, (hot brass went into her cleavage), and has very small hands that match her stature so she can't comfortable shoot the typical larger calibers even if she had a mind to do so.1 point

There's some bad information getting tossed around here...making things more confusing than they should be... "Colt Super 38 Automatic" is the name of a specific gun model, not the name of a cartridge. The CIP designation is 38 Super Automatic. SAAMI refers to it as the 38 Super Automatic +P. Commonly, it's just the "38 Super". hughd - as I've already said, the .38 Automatic (ACP) and .38 Super Automatic are dimensionally the same cartridge. The difference is that the .38 Super is loaded to pressures of 10,000 psi higher (sometimes more) than the .38 Automatic. All 1911 pistols from 1929 on can and are designed to safely fire .38 Super ammunition. The 1911 is a stronger design than the old automatics that were chambered in .38 ACP. Colt serial numbers 1 - 37,834 are considered "Pre-war" models. The "Super .38 Automatic" rollmark and the rampant Colt will be on the right side of the slide. After WWII production of the Super ramped up again in 1947, and the serial numbers started at 40,001. These models will have the "Super .38 Automatic" and rampant Colt rollmark on the left side of the slide. The last Colt chambered in .38 Super to have "Super .38 Automatic" rollmarked anywhere on the slide would have been around 1971 when all existing models were rolled into the "Series 70" designation. Series 70 models and after were marked simply ".38 Super Auto Caliber" or ".38 Super Caliber" on the slide. "Super .38 Automatic" was the model of the pistol, not the cartridge name. This is explained by the changes in the Series 70 pistols. The "Super .38 Automatic" model was no more, but Colt still chambered the Series 70 pistol in .38 Super caliber. They all shoot the same cartridge from 1929 to today. Pre-war models are not marked "Colt Super 38 Auto" on the top of the barrel at the ejection port. That started at 40,001, and they are still marked like this today.1 point

If it plummets it won't really matter to me. I like it enough to keep it until I'm dead and my nephew covets it anyway so I'll pass it on to him. If it goes up enough then it will matter because I'll sell it and get something else and keep the change.1 point

Of course, now that I think about it, VA is a "gold star" open carry state with full state preemption laws. Might as well add Virginia next to the range on list of places that it is reasonable to open carry. Hell, until a few years ago you had the "Virginia tuck" where folks would tuck their shirts behind their guns in places that served alcohol because before the law changed you couldn't conceal in one, but you could open carry. Methinks this should lead to a rise in out of state visitors open carrying, if only to annoy the state's AG.1 point

Because in any of these mass shootings the criminal went out and obtained a weapons carry permit so he could legally go slaughter people. Makes sense. Why are liberals so f'ing stupid? It's like the underpants gnomes are writing laws.1 point

Running joke in our house is my "Gun Fund". I keep doing side jobs (computer issues, etc.) and I keep going until I save up for whatever I have my mind on--the time of the year doesn't matter to me.
