What a week this has been. Started off with my POS Company getting put on a 36hr lockdown (pretty short considering) because some winner wanted to steal a pair of BROKEN pvs14s... The next day (thurs) I get a call from the wife saying they are inducing her, good thing we got taken off lockdown. Allison Brooke was born the next day at 1215p CST 4 December. 5 lbs 3 oz 18 inches and stealthier than your average F35. I was told all my life you are never a man until you make a woman, and even then not until you have a child. It has been emotional and stressful, finally got home a few hours ago. I feel at peace, which is something I never thought Id feel. Everyone who has sent me PMs or well wishes I will try to respond to them promptly. 4 days of being in the hospital has overloaded my notifications. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk6 points

Not just that, but they double dip on the welfare gravy train by cashing in on individual welfare as well. Not like welfare recipients are holding a high month to month balance in the account, they're spending it as it comes in, and that's money business wants just like any other, just has a wait period to clear .gov processing before it hits the corporate account. Walmart comes to mind as the obvious culprit, since two years ago they had 18% of food stamp spending in the US, equaling $14 billion in actual revenue, and even went as far to warn shareholders about it in their annual report that cuts to SNAP would mean cuts to profits. Of course they need to protect that cash flow and are part of the lobbying crusade to ensure restrictions aren't placed on what foods benefits can purchase. Rigged system plain and simple.5 points

Meh, I split the diff, keep a basic 10.5" AR pistol behind the seat.. It's bout as accurate as a rifle up to 100 yards, and with ~ 2700 fps soft points in there should be plenty effective. Plus I get 20-30 quick tries. :) Only got about five bills in it, but it's plenty reliable ... sure, would hurt to lose it, but the comfort it gives me being there is worth the risk. And should circumstances ever require it, can even tote it around on my person: - OS5 points

The funny thing about welfare abuse in this country is that corporations get about $40 billion more, i.e. about 36% more than citizens, and yet nobody bats an eye. Ending corporate welfare, limiting regulation, abolishing the federal reserve, and establishing a sound monetary policy in this country, even if you did absolutely nothing to change social welfare policy, would have massive, positive effects on our economy, but everyone goes bat shit crazy because a dude wants a steak. To say that we have bigger fish to fry is a gross understatement.4 points

I started keeping a cheap AK in the truck after that incident up in New York with 100+ crotch rocket riders attacking that family in the SUV on the interstate. I can't think of too many circumstances where I'd need a rifle, but I know if one comes up I won't be wishing I had one. Would I trust a cheap AK with my life? Of course. I've handled and fired hundreds of AKs in my time. I haven't used one yet that didn't go bang every time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

I truly believe a rescued dog knows you rescued it. That said, my full akc dogs from breeders have been great dogs as well. I believe dogs are a product of their environment. They emulate their owners, basically like kids. I would say go to a shelter. The dog will pick you.4 points

A carbine in the truck to me is just the next logical step in getting me home. My first thought is in most recent times the BLM protestors blocking roadways. Granted blocking a road alone is not a cause for pulling the trigger, but what if you run into that amount of attackers armed? Or just simply violent? I like 90 rifle rounds over 30 pistol from my Glock 19 in that scenario. If you drive a vehicle with a fold up rear seat, this is something I saw that seems like a very legitimate way of mounting one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

The flaw is assuming that the mags we all buy are to be carried all at once. Mags are consumable items. Eventually they break, wear out, get lost, etc. If you cannot buy them later, you cannot have enough of them right now.3 points

The reason i carry a rifle in my truck is because of what i have in my house. If i come home to someone in my home it is a safe assumption they have killed my dogs and have guns, perhaps even my guns. And without a long gun I am at a disadvantage.3 points

This popped up Sunday night while BHO was on TV. NRA Life membership - $300 https://membership.nrahq.org/forms/signup.asp?campaignid=XM026737 Enjoy! Mark UPDATE - - - Appears that the $300 Life was a FBHO special that is no longer active. However, I still encourage everyone to consider joining the NRA now before the rates go up 1 Jan 2016.2 points

Well I know I told you to go do the baby thing this weekend but now that its official...congrats. Your world is about to take a change for the best. But you should definitely buy a flamethrower. Dads with guns are scary. Dads with flamethrowers are perceived as unstable and therefore terrifying. (If you really want to sell it get a steel chair and 2 sets of handcuffs attached to the arms...then sit that little ba$tard in it and then work on your speech. I know you have a few years but its best to be prepared.) Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk2 points

You are right about that. It would be good for the whole gun industry. Imagine all the AR manufacturers offering their rifle WITH a suppressor. Factory tuned rifles from the top shelf companies. Integrally suppressed hunting rifles. The industry would explode. Not just for the tactical crowd either. Imagine if Weatherby offered a factory suppressed .300 Weatherby mag hunting rifle? There are a lot of hardcore hunters who would LOVE that. The guys in marketing at every major gun manufacturer should be slobbering at the mouth for this.2 points

A lot of pet stores have gone to exclusively offering pets from local shelters and rescue organizations. I know the PetCo near me has an adoption day every Saturday. I have to stay away from that area on Saturdays as I already have 3 dogs and 2 cats.2 points

I've been a life member for about 3 years. The solicitation doesn't bother me in the least. If I get snail mail or emails I either give 'em a few bucks if I can, or I toss/delete the request. Pretty much the same on the occasional phone call. I either give a little or tell them no-can-do right now. The conversation ends with no pressure at all. Now that I think about it. I haven't had a phone call in a very long time, but then, it's still not a big thing at all to me. I'd say without them and the donations that are made allowing them to fight the gun grabbers, we'd be talking about the "good 'ol days when we had guns" if anything at all.2 points

Guess I'm going to need to do some extra leather work. Willis, I'm in for a Damascus blade if there is still one available. EDIT: Question... the damascus blade is still good for use, right? I know some damascus blades are really just for looks. I'd like to have this one available for carry.2 points

Saddleback leather. Made in Texas I think. I have one and after about a year it is just now getting nice and broken in. This is definitely the best wallet and probably leather good I have ever had. His company motto is " your kids will fight over it when your gone." Has a lifetime guarantee as well. 100% top quality. I can't recommend it enough.2 points

I live on a dead end road that is on Douglas lake. You would not believe how many dogs are dropped off here . About 5 years ago the sweetest lab pup came on my property and made her way under my deck. She soon found her way into my heart and needless to say she's been my buddy ever since. I being 80 have had many dogs in my life never a lab and it's scary how attached to her I am. I could go on and tell stories of how we get along like so many dog lovers do. If I could litter train dogs like ya can train cats I'd have a 100.2 points

Black friday overloaded them - they shipped my order 4 days late. Ill be calling to let em know their logisticians are FUBAR and act entitled and get some free crap. /sarcasm Xtreme is a real good company, this free shipping jacked them up fierce. Usually they ship within a day and it gets where it needs to 2-3. I order most of my Xtreme stuff from a fellow named Wes Sage on Facebook, he is usually cheaper and can beat shipping on big orders - I only order from extreme when they do 10% off my favorite offerings and/or free shipping. We were looking for a dog a few years back. A coworker had a family member who was having to downsize from a house to an apartment. She had a rotty. I have had many dogs but never a rotty, Well ,we went to just look at the rotty (I didn't think that one through,, when you take your wife and two young kids to look at a dog you are coming home with said dog) One of the best dogs we ever had. He was a teddy bear...to a point....he loved people loved to meet new people but he was very protective over us and loved the kids. When he barked or growled it got your attention and when he did the wife and I knew something was usually not right. We had to have him put down due to health reasons in 2012 we are still not past it. I have met a lot of Rotty people, most have a pack of them. I always thought they were weird people I never understood it until we got ours.2 points

I used to deliver pizzas a long, long time ago. You get a lot of calls to the projects when you're a pizza delivery guy. You'd be amazed at the expensive, new vehicles I saw there. It doesn't surprise me at all when I see career welfare recipients driving nicer cars than I could afford. I, on the other hand, couldn't afford a new vehicle until 11 years ago. It was the first new vehicle I ever bought, and I still drive it today. Plan on driving it for the next 10 years, then pass it down to my son. It's examples like these which give me cause to believe that people who are perpetually poor and on the government titty are in that position because they make bad decisions as a rule. ETA: You'd also figure that with those nice new cars they'd have money for a tip. Alas, that was not the case. Not one time. Ever.2 points

Once you have enough supplies of all kinds (food, water system, personal supplies, etc.) to last you and yours for a long while, then yes, adding shelf-stable things that you can and will trade away with no detriment to you is a good idea. Those can be smaller items like you mentioned for small transactions (bar of soap in exchange for box of nails, for example) or they can be more valuable items like full propane tanks, hand tools, etc. Bottles of liquor are pretty good to have on hand too. Or you die of natural causes having never experienced the apocalypse and your legacy in your local town is to always be remembered as that crazy old man with a bedroom full of soap.2 points

Don't know if any of you watched the Fox NFL pregame show, but they were broadcasting from the pier beside the USS Missouri. They had several (19 I think?) Pearl Harbor veterans there. At the end of the show, a couple of young Marines were having a pushup contest behind the announcers. One of those old guys (he's 90) got up, walked over to those Marines, and got down and started doing pushups with them. That was awesome! It was nice that they showed the USS Oklahoma and the USS Utah memorials as well. The Oklahoma is open to the public as part of the Aviation Museum and USS Missouri area, but the Utah requires DoD credentials to access so it was nice to be able to see it even if it wasn't in person. runco, I guess that's a popular angle to shoot a picture. Here's mine from 2013:1 point

To be clear though, they are not saying the firearms were purchased from a dealer. They simply say they were purchased at the gun show. The implication being it was a person to person transaction where there was no background check, therefore a felon was able to get a gun more easily than if they were forced to go through a background check. The direct logic is correct of course if one believes a felon will follow the law to begin with even if backgrounds checks were mandatory. We all know that isn't the case. I am personally not against background checks, but they should be free and easily accessible for anyone who wants to do one. It should simply state if the person is legal or not to purchase with something as simple as a DL and DOB. If they want people to do it on thier own free will, they need to make it easy to check and free.1 point

It's that liberal logic. If one is guilty...all are guilty. So if 3 felonies are found out of 30 years...Hang'em all dammit! No amount of talk will change that, JohnC. If only it would.1 point

Whether they admit it or not the majority of gun owners are just not really "gun people"....just like most hammer owners are not master builders. Most are gun owners....and that is it...gun owners....just like you might be a lawnmower owner. In fact you will actually use your lawnmower more every year than the typical gun owner uses their gun to practice. Unfortunately the majority of them view their defensive guns as magic talismans that will ward off evil with no effort required on the part of the owner. So why would they need to practice? And that is largely the "American way" ..."You can have it faster and cheaper and requires no effort , attention or discipline and you will be just as good or better than people who have spent a lifetime learning to properly use the tools". We hear that all the time with appliances and new technology involving tools and sporting equipment. And technology is great (to a point) but you still have to know how to use it, and if it involves operating in concert with others THAT is a skill unto itself. Being able to point a gun muzzle and pull a trigger is the last 5% of the solution.....yet most people spend 95% of their training time (if they train at all...and MOST don't train at all) on that last 5%. The problem is that 95% DO NOT TRAIN AT ALL.....So it does get frustrating when all your homies talk big game but can't make an open spot in their schedule once in 6 months to get out and work on some skills that if you ever HAVE to use could save their life or the life of a loved one. It is easier to just stay home and watch the game than to get out and expose your weaknesses..... And THAT is a big part of it. Why is it that cops don't show up on range days where the police dept supplies the ammo for FREE. Good grief....if someone gave me FREE AMMO and all I had to do was show up I'd be there early and they'd have to run me off so they could close at the end of the day. But the overwhelming majority of cops - who carry a gun for work every day and confront possible offenders everyday- are largely just not interested in getting better at operating their equipment. They look at it as an imposition on their personal time to improve their skills with a tool that if they have to use will be under life and death circumstances..... A big part is that they don't want to have to go do something they are not good at...well how the hell do you get better if you don't practice? And the same is true for the typical gun owner.....they don't want to risk embarrassment in front of their peers so they never go do any realistic training . Besides they read stuff in gun rags all the time about "all you have to do is point and pull" or "simply racking your shotgun's action will scare off the bad guys, vampires , the IRS , and other undead ghouls." So why WOULD they go expend money, time, sweat, and hard work on learning to defend themself when the NRA magazine is full of grandmas with J frames who successfully defended themselves? Because the NRA Armed Citizen section does not report losses...only wins. You never read about the people who get killed , crippled, or seriously injured...or about folks who shot someone who didn't need to be shot , or who shot a bystander because they missed their intended target.....and those things DO HAPPEN.The NRA magazine only prints the positive outcomes. And that is why we train. So that IF we are faced with a life threatening event we will already have a page in our mental rolodex that we can access where we have experienced something similar before and we have a course of action to follow...not try to make up something on the fly for a situation we have never seen before. We will also have a modicum of skill to operate the mechanical device (gun) without having to get the owners manual out and read it while we are being attacked. That is where practice comes in. And in the big picture it also makes us confident in our abilities and in ourselves and that carries over into all aspects of our lives.....but what do I know?1 point
