So, I've been building this for a while - finally made it to the range to test it out. Specs: Barreled action is bone-stock taken off a Savage 10fp in .308 win. 24" barrel, accutrigger Bolted directly into a KRG Alpha 180 stock Accurate Mag 10rd magazine Burris XTRii 3-15x50 SCR-Mil Weaver 20moa base Harris Bipod up front, in Krylon OD green Ammo was rolled up by a buddy - 41.6gr h4895 175gr nosler hpbt 2.800 COL Took it out to the range to get some time behind it and get my initial feelings on it. Where it excels: Comfort - jeez this thing fits me like a glove. Small palm swells, perfectly straight and smooth front strap on the grip, panels are perfectly grippy. Flex - next to none. Didn't have a good way to load the bipod, and sitting had some bounce. Expect it to be problem free when prone Recoil - low. Very manageable. The stock isn't that heavy, nor is the barreled action. It's definitely not super light though, I'm not walking through the woods all day with this one unless I absolutely have to. Where it needed work: Feeding - the magazine needed some tweaks, burrs on the feed lips were sanded off, the feed lips needed slight spreading, and the follower had to be lightly adjusted for the last round. After those, no problems whatsoever Reaching the safety - wasn't as easy in this stock as in the factory tupperware. Not extreme, but was a bit of a stretch. Elevation adjustment - going to have to reset the zero stop on the scope, factory is set (per the manual) 20 moa below center, I'll need to adjust that out, or remove the 20moa rail. Probably don't need the rail, what with the amount of adjustment available (over 30mil) Where I need work: About .75moa, if you don't count the flyer. Shot six 5 shot groups, all just like it. Didn't bother with trying to zero the scope, was on paper and wanted to see what it could do. Every time I pulled the 5th shot of the group. Note to self - slow down, follow through, stop rushing to get up on the last shot. Also, might do a little better without gloves. Just enough wind to nip at my fingers, so they were on from the start. Finally, it was a lovely clear cool day, and now it's a great clear cool night. If you don't want to go out and see it yourself, there's the moon. Shot with a Nikon D3100 and a Tamron 70-300. 1/40s f32 from my backyard. Not the best pic ever, had a bit of fog on the lens because I wasn't waiting for the lens to acclimate. T-shirts and 30-something degrees. Brr.6 points

As someone else mentioned, I guess the American military better get PC, eh: Apache, Comanche, Chinook, Lakota, Cheyenne, Kiowa, Tomahawk, Black Hawk (Indian chief), Geronimo (mission name to kill Bin Laden), etc. - OS4 points

Agreed. Plus, if you get to shoot someone in the dick I think you have pretty much unlocked an achievement. Terrorists, home invaders and other body-armor turds need to consider that before engaging in shenanigans. Might I get shot in the dick for this? If the answer is "YES" then go back and re-think your strategy.4 points

I went through this. I settled on 9mm and .45ACP for the most part, but still have a few .40SW around for the sake of utility. I typically carry 9mm in either a Glock 19 or HK VP9. The reasons I chose 9mm are the same reasons most folks do: I don't believe in stopping power fairy tales I prefer to take 2 more rounds of capacity over 1 step up in caliber It is cheaper to practice with Recoil is less which means split times are faster for me It's generally lighter to carry and the firearms can be smaller I'm not here to throw rocks at anyone who chooses to believe that .40SW is superior. Mathematically it *should* be, however physiologically -- when the bullet strikes meat -- the degree of superiority is not all that great. Choose what you like. Get good at shooting it. Shoot the hell out of it. And always carry it.4 points

I've been blessed to be able to hunt a farm for years and the place has become absolutely over run with deer. Unfortunately I have very little free time to hunt during the week. I've already bagged 3 deer this year and there will be plenty more. The land owner has asked me to kill as many deer as possible because they are destroying his crops. Due to my work schedule I get to hunt for a couple of hours before work and I don't get off until after dark so I have zero time to process the deer in the daylight and I'm just not desperate enough to do it by flashlight. So... If anyone wants a whole deer (I may even leave tenderloins in) let me know. I'm planning on hunting this place a lot throughout the season and a lot of deer will be coming off of it. The deer will have to be picked up in Mount Juliet around 6:30 in the evenings.3 points

Every dog lover has had to give medications to their dog. Sometimes the meds are flavored and appealing and sometimes they aren’t. Many dog owner and vets alike have hidden pills in peanut butter. Peanut butter is excellent camouflage to hide bitterness and is very popular among dogs. Recently, certain food manufacturers have started to add xylitol to peanut butter to try to make it a lower calorie choice for those people watching calorie intake. Xylitol is a sugar substitute found mostly in candies, desserts and gums, but also in some vitamin supplements (for humans) and medications. Other writers have mentioned that brands using xylitol are Nuts ’N More® and Krush Nutrition, but I only found a brand called P28 at my local health food store. Because of the way dogs metabolize it, xylitol can cause a life-threatening drop in blood sugar (glucose) and liver damage in some dogs. There is no part of this goodie that you should share. Affected dogs will stagger and even collapse. If you think that your dog may have eaten any xylitol, it is critical to see your vet or animal ER. But otherwise, don’t panic. I have perused the shelves of many stores and have only found xylitol containing nut butters in stores specifically selling vitamins and health foods so far. Mainstream peanut butters are not typically included in this warning. But before you give any nut butter product to your dog, you should read the label completely. If you see XYLITOL on the list, do NOT give it. The logic behind production of the line of special butters for humans is reducing the high calorie and fat content naturally found in nuts. This concern is also pertinent to dogs and even regular xylitol-free peanut butters should be for occasional treats or pill disguise only. Obesity is a national epidemic in companion pets and shortens dogs’ lives. Other complications associated with fat ingestion can include pancreatitis and cholangiohepatitis (disorders of gall bladder and liver), so think before you offer anything that is high in fat. *For more on translating crazy long medical words, see 5 Medical Terms Every Dog Owner Should Know. The xylitol issue is very critical. Many people would not think to look twice at peanut butter. It has been a staple of everyone’s childhood and our culture for as long as I can remember. Because the xylitol containing versions are seemingly available mostly from health food stores, we would all think that we were giving our dogs something healthy and great. The trouble is…they may be great for you, just not for your dog. Make a habit of reading ingredient lists. If you see a word you do not recognize, rip off that label or take a photo of it to ask your vet. If we do not know, we will find out. Let’s spread this word and save some lives!3 points

I know that feeling. I try to compensate. Like the other day I bought him a bottle that was around $100. He'd never do that for himself, he feels guilty buying Blantons or Rowans Creek. The nicer it is, the less likely he is to buy it. Which is where I step in. He's the Breadwinner and he deserves the "best". So if this Pappy does the trick, well then at least I did something right!3 points

I am flushed with ammo, but one cannot have enough. However, I struggle with the great struggle within, when one has extra clams, do you buy another hard ware or go after the ammo? I reload too, but I also like having extra factory ammo too. I also like buying other new guns. So the tug-of-war is tough!2 points

It super limited release, you will have to get to know someone at the liquor store to get one. Not enough to go around, probably not worth the energy it takes to get one.2 points

I suspect your brother's eventually going to be told the defendant's were also charged with being in possession of stolen property if Metro PD knew said guns were stolen. It makes no difference on the property being released unless one of the firearms was used in the commision of another crime. Your brother needs to take a copy of the police report from his break in with him and have a sit down, face to face meeting with the supervisor of the prosicuting officer. Present a synopisis of all current conversations and ask why the firearms haven't been returned to him. Make sure this is done in a professional, cordial manner and also mention he is unhappy with the confusion to date. Casualy drop an attornies name whom he has already spoken with and request that attorney follow up with a letter. He's either going to be told why the guns haven't been returned yet or have them returned. One additional thing, if the parties in question were charged with possession of stolen guns or felon's in possession of firearms and your brothers guns were listed a judge will have to sign off on their release.2 points

I have a 7 year old and almost 5 year old. We are right at the age where at sporting events and birthday parties, I have noticed some parents let their kids go to the bathroom and/or concession stand by themselves. It may not be obvious, but I try to watch my kids like a hawk. My wife says that developmentally, it is good for kids to develop a sense of Independence. As far as I am concerned, they can do that with me watching from a distance. Statistically, I may be paranoid. I am 100% OK with that. It is just not that much trouble.2 points

What is sad is that this person won't get the death penalty. They rarely do. I think in the death of a child it should be mandatory. No plea bargains allowed. You kill a child, you die. It's that simple.2 points

I have 2 pair of Leopolds. 8x42 BX2 Acadias that I use primarily out west. Around here I have, use & love a pair 6x30 Yosemites To be perfectly honest in the woods the 6x are more than enough for anything within 200yds. The 8x BX2s are clear enough that I can count antler points out to 400, but it's just too much magnification for peering into thickets 50yds away. Any further than 400yds I'm honestly not interested round here, but for scouting & glassing out west I use a spotting scope.2 points

You avoid this situation by minding your own. You and yours. Sound selfish? Ohh well. My gun's for me and my wife. Everyone else gets a 911 call as I'm redlining the engine in the opposite direction. As with everything in life, that's not set in stone and decisions will be made on a case by case basis as they present themselves. Just a general rule of thumb.2 points

Do you like duck? Their eggs are good and they are much easier on the land. Very trainable as well. they are so herdish it is funny. Get one going where you want it and the rest will trample you to join the first one... they also have a bunch more eggs in them than chickens do...1 point

I flew home last week and am home until the first of the year. I loved flying right out of college... 2 or 3 flights a week - was always asleep before we took off. Fast forward, have a couple of kids, and now it is a (technically very low) risk that I would rather not take. .... but it comes with the job. Be well as you guys travel! -swivel-1 point

Or...we can lower the cost to do business here by lowering our tax rate, make it more expensive for foreign companies to sell their wares here by matching the tariff placed on our products overseas, and quit forcing companies into expensive insurance plans.1 point

I've been picking up reloading supplies a little at a time. During deer season I have zero time to load but when January gets here I'll have plenty of time. I don't have near as much loaded ammo as I'd like to have but a have supplies to make me closer.1 point

It's hard to beat the SIG P220 as a companion to your Glock 21. It's what John Moses Browning might have come up with 80 years later after he built the 1911 if he had lived so long.1 point

Got a doe this morning. De-boned it and have the rest in the Yeti so it can be trimmed and ground later on. I have NEVER seen this amount of fat and tallow on a deer. Wondering if it's an indication of a bad winter coming and they're fattening up against it?1 point

My dog doesn't have the same issues, but it's definitely got problems. I repeatedly tell the dog to smile and this is the best it can do. So far, I like it. I know they're still developing the characters so I'll give it a few more episodes to see where it goes... besides, The Widow (Emily Beecham) makes it worth watching. ;) I'll agree that some of the fight scenes, like him defeating a warehouse full of baddies, was a bit over the top.1 point

It was on my last renewal. It used to say--"has not been a patient..hospitalized for alcohol or substance abuse..for 10 years." On my latest renewal it said 3 years. I was curios so I called the number on the website. It does not say the word "voluntary"--but there is ANOTHER provision for involuntary (officially it says "adjucated") that calls for 7 years. I agree it is BS. Someone is trying to do the right thing and is smacked for it. They told me they usually only find out about voluntary treatment when it becomes time for renewals, and that it is by far the #1 reason for people to be denied on renewal.
