  1.   I don't always buy rats, but when I do, it's from strangers in parking lots at night.

  3. The part about him never getting closer than 10 feet is presented the wrong way in the story. The story makes that out to be a factor of why he isn't a threat. To me, if he's at 10 feet than he can be on her faster than she can react, especially as an older person with (presumably) slowing reflexes, and she's busy putting groceries away. I see the 10 feet thing in her favor, not his.

  5. Say 3600 was trying to set up members of the gun community to look bad by asking loaded questions.  I think they did not get that result here, they got caring and compassionate people that took a lot of time to help a stranger through a tough time.  How they choose to report what they found is yet to be determined.  BTW I thought this thread, along with others that he posted seemed a bit loaded, and a little out of the realm of ordinary questions.  If nothing else it shows how great some of the members here at TGO are by taking time to try to help someone who they do not even know.

  8. At no time do I ever claim to be a saint. Really. And if you knew me 6 years ago you'd have hated me like any other Michigander that I read about on here. I was so unaware of guns, gun rights, gun safety and anything else related to them. However, that's not the point at hand. I was out today, mailing something and all of a sudden I lost control of my vehicle. Now Sequoias do have a few known issues but this one was new to me. I somehow ended up at our FAVORITE local gun shop in Livingston. Which is a bit from our house so it's still a mystery as to how my vehicle ended up there. :ugh: I do remember oddly talking with Monkey last night about adding some things to the collection and working on beefing up our ammo. So maybe the Sequoia just heard that convo? I dunno... but somehow I ended up with these: A Gen 4 Glock 20 And this beauty, a Gen 3 Glock 21sf with Nickel Boron Slide Now, if I ever lied to you and told you that I am sad about somehow ending up at the gun store, well I'd never forgive myself. But I did however fib to a certain Monkey when he called me. It was almost as if he could sense something was going on. Well I told him I wouldn't be able to meet him for lunch because I was tied up mailing letters. He called me back a few minutes later and told him I was busy checking out at the Food Lion in Livingston and I would be to his work shortly. As my wonderful, awesome and helpful sales clerk was helping me finish my transaction Monkey called a last time and said "Food Lion in Livingston? Umm... yea, tell Anthony hi for me." Well shoot. The gig was up. DANG IT. But once I ran by his work and he saw what I grabbed, he was very OK with it from what I could tell. I don't think he even remotely expected it because we had talked about going next week but that pesky Sequoia had other plans.. I also picked up a lot of awesome ammo while there. I cannot say enough about the guys at The Livingston Gun Shop and Trading Post. Except that once they know your weaknesses, they try really hard to get you to leave with as many items as possible. There was talk of Monkey possibly needing to take my keys away.. LOL I however blame it on the items I have been reading about on here lately. LOL Either way, we have 2 new family members and I love them A LOT.

Removed the front leg and gutted it all in one shot :)

Like a long trail ride after a night of heavy drinking and bad mexican food. Imagine the love child of Jameson and JP-8. And this is not coming from a man sitting in a stuffy game room surrounded by high dollar smokes and bottles of top shelf. Just a regular ol bourbon guy who got put in charge of bath time. 13. You know you want a Bradford pear tree.  There are so many great  things about them.  When they spend that 3 days each spring looking pretty they will emit that lovely sewage like odor.   Their quickly growing and branching out limbs are great for hitting your head on when you mow around the tree.  In 10-15 years it will surely fall in a windstorm and bless you with an unbelievable amount of wood for a tree of its size.  It should only take 2-3 days with a good chain saw to cut it into firewood sized pieces.  Speaking of which, Bradford pear wood is hard to beat when you need a quick fire, like between the time that you get up in the morning and when you leave for work 30 minutes later, because it will only take about 15 minutes for a fully stoked fire place to burn down to nothing.  Oh, and the best part is they don't even bear any actual pears so you won't have to pick them up and they wont attract bugs and other vermin.

  14.     I hear you Murg, it is embarrassing, especially when we make decent money and CAN conceivable do something but don't. It is equally embarrassing to air out the fact that I can't pay a professional to do their job. The realization just hit me last night if I don't do something, it's only going to keep hurting, hurt worse, and ultimately still lead to a high dollar expense, dentures aren't as expensive as fixing, but they're not cheap either, especially with broken teeth which seem to be a bitch to pull cleanly. Screw that, I'd rather look a fool and get my mouth on order.   The pain is bad, all the time, but especially bad sometimes, incapacitating is accurate. Last nights flare up had me seeing spots so to speak (and not my homie Spots either) but it wasn't near as bad as one last month. That may have been the worst, you can still do things physically, but your strength is zapped, and your brain won't work right. It sucks a lot. It also sucks having to turn down delicious foods because you know what you are in for during and after eating. I want to eat a Snickers bar again, I want to be able to eat a plate of nachos again.   You want embarrassing? by worse broken tooth shattered on a chocolate chip in some ice cream. A chocolate chip.      I got some real good info last night via PM Murg, I got some stuff to do for an hour or so so have to jump off, but I'll be back to post the gist of the info here in case anyone else is in our boat as well. I will say that thanks to a few members here, I now have options I didn't know existed. Options are good.

  16. Yeah, that seems to be where I am right now.   If I try to think of what a reasonable person would think/do given her circumstances, I can certainly understand that she would be afraid. Does that rise to the level of fear of serious bodily harm or death on its own? I just can't quite get there without other information, but I'm not nor have I ever been nor will I ever be a small 67 year old woman so it's hard to know.   If I were the judge I'd probably see if they couldn't work out an understanding that approaching strangers in a parking lot (especially people likely to be crime victims like the elderly) isn't exactly the smartest thing to do, and that a stranger approaching with no other threatening signs doesn't normally rise to the level of being in fear of life or limb. If so, let's drop the charges, learn from this, and be on our way.

  17. Here is a friend I had to have put down in 2010 after he suffered several heart attacks and suffered from an enlarged heart 3 times normal size. His name was Buttons and was actually my wife's dog till she passed away in 1997. I took care of him after she passed. He tolerated Kasey but Kasey also knew he was the boss and never pushed that issue. He had a real bluff in on her since he only had 4 teeth and when he would growl at her she would hunker down and slowly move away from him. Because of his red eyes many of my friends called him a Devil Dog.......lol . He was 15 when he died. 18. I saw the interview on the news last night and I do have mixed thoughts on this issue but after listening to other witnesses at the scene I'm gonna say she is going to be charged as stated. I only have a few questions at this point that seems odd and that is the guy approaching a woman loading groceries in her car and he approaches a complete stranger and asks for a light for a cigarette and then later cannot be found to be interviewed by news media for comment. They didn't have any trouble finding so called witnesses but not the guy that called 911? They also have a video of the entire incident that I would like to see. There is a few questions I would like answered before passing any type of judgement in the case...............jmho

  19. I am interested in what you find out. My mouth is worse than yours. I am leaning towards full pull and fake ones. It is embarrassing to talk about, but asking for help shows the courage. For the record I have six broken front teeth, and most of my molars are gone, or little more than remnants. I have no excuse. I make good money and have insurance. I am just too embarrassed at this point to even talk to a dentist. The pain is the worst part. It can immobilize you. But I still function daily and don't take anything more than an Aleve a day. I make the "toothless redneck" joke a lot. But it isn't a joke. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk

  21. You have to remember that the zoo policies you are seeing on the website are general policies that probably 90% of all non profits and also companies have.  So are you going to write every company in America about their book policies because they have a no weapons policy?  Remember that these policies generally do not make it illegal for you to carry with your handgun carry permit at say ABC store.   The handgun carry permit is meant to keep you from having a weapons charge in the odd chance that someone discovers that you are carrying and calls the police.  Also it is important to remember that not many people out of the total population legally carry handguns.  We are a small exception just like LEO's and armed guards.  I'm quite confident in carrying at the zoo or any other park in Memphis and would not expect any sort of major problems out of it IF I was discovered to be carrying because we are legal carrying in those locations.  The chance of being discovered is pretty low as long as I conceal and mind my own business.

  22. Ok, I'll be that guy...I like the SCAR-17.  I've had no issues with the reciprocating charging handle, and in fact I like that you can switch it to either side of the gun to accommodate your strong hand (I'm a lefty).  It's easier and faster to clear malfunctions if you ever have one and accurate about as far as you'd want to shoot it (understanding that it's not a sniper rifle).  I guess the question is, what are you planning on doing with it?  It is an ass-kicker on F/A as Comms pointed out, but you're not going get one in F/A so it doesn't matter.  Trying to do 5-round strings for fun at the range the gun will walk on you some, unless you man up on it pretty hard.  But, are you out to just hose close targets with .308?  If not, then it doesn't matter.  The gun isn't any heavier (practically speaking) than a good AR-10 platform.  Are you going to carry it for long distances to get to a hunting spot?  If not, and it's just a range toy, then what does it matter.  As far as rugged goes, I've not seen one break yet, although I'm sure they can.  Are you going to beat the hell out of it every single day?  If not, then what does "mean rounds between failure" matter to you?  At the end of the day, figure out what you want out of the platform and go for it.  I'd own one for no other reason than it's a pretty cool gun if I wasn't allocating funds elsewhere.  You can get AR-10 platform guns for less, but it depends on what brand/features you want.  I built a custom AR-10 and spent the same as you would for the SCAR, so it just depends on what you want.  Buy once, cry once and all that aside, if you like it, and can afford it, then go for it and have fun.  And post range pics for us to enjoy...

  23. Folks... This aint about a better caliber, nor a better pistol, nor better performance; it's about spendin mine and your money for stuff these folks don't need... This is crony capitalism (...really crony fascism...) at work...   When a large gubmt bureaucracy makes a change, somebody gets paid... Think about it...A new pistola... Somebody get's paid... New ammo...Somebody gets paid...   All major calibers are very effective in the hands of thoroughly trained and determined gunmen (...and women...)...  This is about spendin money with the right folks and payin off the right "insiders"...It's payola for the patrician class of bureaucrats...   Somethin to think about... It's endemic to both parties.. It will be almost impossible to fix...   sneerin leroy

  33. We raised APBTs for a while. Won't find a better dog providing it is properly socialized. A APBT locked away without outside contact is an accident waiting to happen. Socialize, socialize and more socialization will prevent any issues especially fear biters. And if you do get a APBT realize they are not the 80+ pound monstrosities you are seeing. A good confirmation APBT will be hard to tell from the average hunting dog if the ears are not clipped. BTW, I prefer my dogs to be as they were born so no docked tails or ears. When we raised them we stayed with old school blood lines where a male would weight a max of 60 pounds and a female weighs 50. I had a dog that was 100% APBT with old school blood lines that weighed 30 pounds. And the best part is because it doesn't look like the bigger dogs you can pass the smaller ones off as not APBTs in case you live in an area with a breed specific ban. American Bulldogs are great dogs. Even more loving and loyal than most APBTs but less intense. They are great dogs and not as active as a typical APBT. There are two separate breads within the ABs as well. One is a Scott type which looks like a giant APBT. The other is a Johnson type and it looks like a giant English bulldog. Both have the same basic body but one has the bulldog looking face and the other has less of a pushed in face. You can expect the average Scott type to weigh 90-110 pounds and the Johnson type to be up to about 120 pounds. The Johnson type is just a little bulkier than the Scott. As far as Gus goes. We were looking for an Alapaha and had spoke to several breeders. One became available from someone else and my wife bought Gus. Knowing then what we know now we should have went with a different breeder. She is a backyard breeder in the best sense of the title. She breeds dogs based solely on looks and has several monstrosities that she claims are Alapahas but they do not look like any Alapaha I have ever seen. She was nothing more than a "bully" breeder. But with that being said Gus is a good dog but definitely has some genetic issues. She wanted to retain breeding rights but after seeing some of the issues with Gus we refused to allow him to be bred and had him fixed. He has a crank tail, a genetic problem that disqualifies him as an Alapaha, he is allergic to chicken, which is common on bully breeds, and some other minor genetic abnormalities but nothing serious. He does not meet confirmation but we do not care because he is Gus and only Gus can be Gus. Gus is what the call a brown merle. Here is a video of a gray merle Alapaha. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v12KPiPtuMI If anyone wants an Alapaha I can put you in touch with reputable breeders. Also be aware there are breeders out there that have started registering ANYTHING as ANYTHING so long as you pay the fees. We joke that they will register your trailer if you pay for it. There also seems to be a BIG disparity between breed standards depending on whose standard you are reading. And here are some more "furry friends" of ours. Both are Dumbo rats because of the ears on the sides of their heads. Never thought of rats as pets but they are actually really smart, fun to watch and grow so fast. I present Willard: And Teddy:

  36.   Sadly, dental insurance hasn't caught up with medical. Although given the BS high deductible medical plans now, I think we are taking a step back across the board. There are some really excellent dental plans out there, but it is all about what employers are willing to pay to get them. Delta Dental of Tennessee has some amazingly great coverage and then they have plans that just plain stink. I think BCBS is one of the worst. It's basically about what someones needs are. What coverage percentages they offer and a persons over all oral health. Sadly, there is a lot of incorrect facts out there when it comes to dental care/needs and I can't tell you the number of times I have had someone tell me they would rather the tooth be pulled than saved because they didn't want to pay their 50% copay meanwhile they're carrying a Louis Vuitton purse and have a brand new iPhone.    I'm 33 years old and I had adult braces. I looked like an idiot but I paid $2500 to fix what my single mom couldn't afford. My smile in my wedding pictures is closed mouth because I had pink and black braces. I was damned sure if I had to have them, I was gonna go full out nerd with them. Season colors and all. I think if our government got out of the way and let the people handle their own business, we all would be better off. But in the meantime, we're probably stuck with crappy coverage. Schnider Electric, Ozburn Hessey and Metro Nashville were some of the best plans I ever saw. Just in case anyone is looking for a new job. LOL

  38.   RE:   The posts above by FTE (... #48...) and CZ9 (...#49...)....   The number 49 post...   No... The ammo guys make out no matter what... Ammo consumption stays the same assuming personnel levels stay the same.... The gun manufacturers sell new guns to replace the old guns specified by the agency...   Always remember these truths: ... Not buyin somethin always saves money... Buying something new always costs money... It works at your house, my house, and the gubmt's house... It's a universal truth...   RE:  The "new pistola thing"... I've got a Smith model 13 three inch heavy barrel... It was the "new" FBI gun in the late seventies... I like it a lot... I remember them changing from the Smith 13 to the 9mm, then settlin on the 40 after playin with the 10mm, now back to the 9mm... That's a change of 4 pistolas over the course of 35 years... About every nine years, someone gets paid...    RE:... Where does the money for new gubmt purchases come from...? The government never saves money, they spend money... Where do they get the money...?   From you and me of course...   The number 48 post...   RE:... As to the "detailed rationale" thing...  Of course they gave a detailed rationale..It's a standard requirement that gubmt and most big businesses use to justify new purchases.... The "detailed rationale" was to bolster the specs narrowly enough to get the product they want to get... I used to make a pretty good livin providing "detailed rationale" for capital equipment and construction services contracts... That's how they do it...    Think about it... It aint a conspiracy theory on my part as some have opined; it's a change from one caliber to another that is one mm different... .355 to .401.... The ballistics are strikingly similar...   Again; it ain't about a better pistola, it ain't about better "terminal ballistics", it ain't about "advances in bullet technology"; it's about someone gettin paid with your money...   Your mileage may vary...    leroy

  40. I don’t know why this surprises anyone; this is the same government that took 45ACP and .308 away from our troops and gave them the weak azz 9mm and .223. As far as handguns; no government agency should be able to buy anything from a foreign manufacturer unless there is no American made product that can meet the requirements. My own dollars don’t go to Glock and I don’t want my tax dollars going to them either. The M&P is a proven performer; it should hands down get the nod.

I hate to say this but every Smith and Wesson knife that I have ever seen in my life ( Several) was not worth a darn, they lend their name to the cheapest manufactures in the world so that many folks that love their guns would buy them, unfortunately they do not use quality USA manufacturers But as for Blade HQ, before I became a dealer I bought at least 50 knives from them and every transaction was great,
