  1. I got my card in the mail today! Gawd, I think it was 10-12 days after I filled out the forms? Would have taken 9-12 months in NY, and I might not have even gotten it! Crazy... Wifey's all over this, she wants a compact .380, I think I'd prefer a 9 for-carry, and she wants to get a little .22 so the kids can come to the range w/ us, WTF!   I was looking at the Walther's, as they have a range of .380's and 9mm to pick from, are reputable, quality manuf., etc., however I don't know of any ranges/store's around here that have 'em to rent? The one by me offers a try-before-you-buy, but it's only a few rounds, and frankly, I'd want to just go down-the-line and try half their inventory, LOL! I Don't even know if they have any Walthers? I'm starting to see why owning a 'collection' of handgun's is essential! Try someone's piece out on the range one day and you've just got to go get one!    I 'spose that's how swinger's get started?   I like the Bodyguard .380 S&W makes, that's a slick looking gun, and I can try out the M&P regular-size at my local store's range.. their compact-for-carry looks nice. But man, the Ruger's are pretty slick, too, damn. :wall:   I'm not going to be able to pick just one, I know it... Now I'm going to need a gun safe, too!   - K

  3. This may not make most peoples list, but I have a Ruger addiction and like large bore calibers. I have been looking for a Ruger No. 1 in 45-70 for some time now, but have not been able to find one locally or at a price I was willing to pay. Yesterday I found one that met both criteria that was in great shape. I have never shot a No. 1, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it has one of the best triggers I have felt. I am suspicious that it has had some trigger work done, as there is no creep and is very light. It has Ruger rings, but I am not sure what I am going to mount on it. I have an older Leupold VX-3 1.5 by 5 that would work well, but it am seriously considering getting a peep sight of some kind. Any suggestions in this area would be helpful. I am going to have to sell some other firearms to pay for this per the agreement with the wife, but I couldn't be happier. That is fuzz on the checkering from the gun case I brought it home in.

  4. I got no issue calling somebody out. If they are a legit vet it's pretty easy to tell talking to them, but if I had doubts I'd ask for a DD-214, and would have no trouble producing mine if it's asked for. I have no respect or tolerance for people lying about military service. I've got brothers who are permanently scared and a few who never came home, and lying about it is disrespectful to them in the worst way. If she never graduated boot camp then she's not a veteran, and I'm not sure they even give DD-214's for failure to adapt in basic. Ask for help honestly and I'll give you the shirt of my back. Lie to me and I'll laugh at your calamity. 99% of the wounded vets I know have to have it pried out of them, and most veterans won't push their vet status out of humbleness Sent from behind the anvil

  6. Personally, that statement by Tony Guglielmo should ring a bell with these people that think they can just pass a law and everyone will bow down. This is the statement that I read that really nailed my thoughts:   Millions of people in this country have always considered that (the Constitution) something worthy to fight for by any means and to die for in foreign countries. How much more is this true to fight for on their own soil?

  7. I had NoBanStan over today doing some reloading and we noticed some finished rounds were missing primers. I took the shellplate and primer feeder off the Dillon XL 650 to clean off the Win231 that leaked out and to inspect the primer feeder. Nothing seemed amiss, so we reassembled and put in some more primers and tried to hand cycle the feeder...nothing.   When we took the feeder tube back off it was apparent that a primer was stuck inside. Being smart we dumped primers out of both ends before going at it with a wood dowel. After "gently" pushing the stuck primer from both ends, I was able to push a stuck primer about 2-3" with the dowel before it just wouldn't go any farther. That's when we decided to measure the depth of the stuck primer from both ends and found out there was actually 2 primers stuck in there. One was 2" into one side and the other was 7.5" into the other side. The bonus was that there was at least one loose primer rattling in between them.   At this point a mere mortal would have called it a day and ordered a replacement primer feed tube from Dillon, but NOOOOOOO...I wasn't being out-smarted by a metal tube filled with explosives. I decided to proceed with a plan that under normal circumstances would require a 6 pack of beer, an audience, and the announcement, "y'all watch this". I stuck the SOFT PINE dowel back into the tube set it on the work bench and gave the tube a couple of what I thought were LIGHT taps with a rubber mallet. It wasn't until I heard a loud kaboom and NoBanStan screaming like a 12 yr old girl at a Justin Beiber concert that I realized this was a VERY bad idea.   Thankfully nobody was hurt and nothing thing was damaged besides my ego and NobanStan's underwear. Only one primer went off. There was no chain reaction of exploding large pistol primers and the tube didn't disintegrate into a dozen pieces of flying shrapnel. The wooden dowel kind of resembles the coyote's face after a failed attempt to blow up the road runner and the tube is scorched pretty bad inside. Suffice it to say, I have lost all interest in removing the stuck primers to salvage the primer feed tube and lessons were learned, albeit the hard way.   So, if you find yourself with one or more primers stuck in your primer feed tube and you absolutely MUST get them out...don't say you weren't warned.

  9. So with all the big changes in my life in the last couple of months, I have decided to try a new hobby. I am really working on making every experience a good one, and keeping a positive attitude, and honestly, it is working great, even if I do have a bit of animosity still buried in my heart. I know it is unjustified, but I still won't drink a Dr Pepper...   It is an interest I have had nearly all my life, but it something I have never really acted on with any seriousness.   When I was in highschool a group of us decided we would make a band. We played at a couple of talent shows and when we were older a couple of 'teen clubs' and a bar. We did a college competition once, but we were way out of our league. I played the drums, and then later the bass, as no one else wanted to play bass, but drummers were easier to find. Honestly we weren't good, but we had a lot of fun doing it.   I always wanted to play the guitar. But as I was the guy that would get things done, it was easier to just pick up the bass than have a dozen guys all wanting to play the guitar and no one to drum or play bass. Well, fast forward twenty something years, and I have a daughter who decided she wanted to learn to play music.   So we signed her up for the local children's orchestra and bought her a violin. And a guitar. So that lead to me getting a guitar. And well, if there is one thing I understand, it is excess.   So a half of a dozen guitars later, I have one really great looking den/office.    The upside of this is that I have actually been practicing and learning.   Right now we are working on the 'cowboy chords.' A C D G E and transitioning between them. I actually feel like I have made more progress in the last month than I did in a few years of pretending when I was kid.   The next step I am going to is learning how to do my own set-up and intonation. I will wind up having more money in the proper tools than I currently do in my guinea pig Squier Bullet, but it will be a fun process and valuable if I decide down the road to upgrade past the $200 guitar mark. Or dump $400 into a $100 guitar...   Which lets be honest, anyone who knows me knows I am going to trick out the $100 guitar to get every last ounce of performance.

  11. Tell her not to worry! Because if the military pays her 40 cents over SNAP requirements, that when she has the baby in December, she'll fall well below the requirements! Since she is 'disabled' with one kid, she can currently make $2163 a month and get SNAP, in December she can make $2722. Without knowing the entire story, I would assume she's lying to get freebies/pity. Send them this link: https://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/humanservices/attachments/fs-test.pdf

  12. We had a kid get booted from boot camp for failure to adapt after 3 weeks. An honorable discharge certificate will prove service. And yeah, I don't give a damn if your trying to get free beer or keep your kids from being homeless, lying about military service is Stolen Valor. Period. I showed my DD-214 to have veteran added to my DL, and I've showed it to employers who asked. Most people probably won't question your military service unless you start using it as an excuse to get free shit or charity. So if you were to ask for money for whatever reason, and claimed disabled vet status to help your case, I think it's well within the bounds of reasonable to ask for proof. Just like I ask for proof whenever someone asked me to donate to help fire departments or anything else. Sent from behind the anvil

  13. DD-214 or bust. There is also a way to request records of people who are totally seperated under the FOIA - if you wanted to go that route. Simple things like asking her where she did AIT, what company she was/class number, where did she deploy to and with what unit - a quick google/wiki search will clear that up. 22. Lawless is one of the all time greatest movies ever filmed. I watched it on netflix some time back. As soon as it was over, I played it again. I watched it 5 or 6 times that weekend, and I rarely ever watch t.v.     As for a Christmas gift, I don't need anything. I expect my wife will pick out a new living room suite or some such nonsense, and it'll be for "both of us". If I don't have to try and pick her out a gift, it'll be fine with me. Giving my wife a gift is nothing more than an opportunity to fail for me.

  28. Yea, ammo.   Made, its almost exactly the same for me... same bullet (using a cheap lead 380 bullet in both) and that leaves just the small powder charge difference (a few grains... 7000 grains is 30 bucks or whatever, a couple of grains is negligible).  But bought, as noted above, its $5 bucks more / box on the average.  Making 9mm about "buy 3 get 1 free" relative to 380 price.   For a round that uses less lead, brass, and powder, mind you -- its pure gouging by the ammo companies.

  33. I'm cool with my wife hating guns. More ammo for me and my budget isn't effected by my next gun needing to be pink. She respects my passion for them and is very supportive. But doesn't want anything to do with them. It actually works out very well.

  34. CCI doesn't seem to have that problem.   And the hoarding thing is bull :poop: . You can't hoard what you can't purchase; and obtaining it from the distributor level is the issue. They don't have it to ship down to the retailer. We get dribbles from our distributors. Folks can't "hoard" a hundred boxes when only ten come in a shipment.

  37. Scored it off eBay inexpensively from some feller, but doesn't show in last three years, so I must have gotten it before that. How time flies. It does have a "pocket hook", is curved for right pocket carry, but main way to release heater is to press down with right thumb on top while pulling gun butt upward. I can say I tried a Nemesis with my PM9, but it's like carrying a widdle stuffed pillow, so I'm sure I'd hate it equally for a revolver, which is already wider to begin with. Here's a quick pic compilation to show you the style. I thought the little thumb stud sticking out laterally just a bit might be troublesome in pocket, but didn't find it so, but again didn't carry the revolver but a day or two, mainly got the holster as a backup way to carry in case I needed to for some reason (I carry PM9 daily). I think if I wanted it flat on that side without the lateral projection that makes it flat on top, could actually just soften it with heat and pull it straight up and would still serve fine, or do that and even cut a bit off, whatever. - OS

  42.                 You sound like a guy who has never made a mistake.  Please tell us what it's like living a perfect life.  Does it get annoying having all of those people following you around asking you to show them how you walk on water or change water into wine, or do you leverage the modern advances of social media and demonstrate the miraculous via YouTube?   Because, buddy, if you think you are so far removed from the possibility of ever having to walk in the shoes of the OP, you might be setting yourself up for a big dose of karma.  There's  an old saying a friend of mine was prone to utter in cases like this:  There, but by the grace of God, go I.   How many more rocks do you have in that pile behind you to throw?
