There are several places to shoot in the Knoxville area. You have Volunteer Rifle and Pistol Clue but it is probably the worst place to go. Not because of the facilities but because of the staff that works there as well as some of the other customers. The RSOs are overbearing, control freaks that seem to look for ways to make your visit miserable. They have told people to be quiet because people are trying to shoot as if gunshots were quiet. They will steal your brass if given the chance. They will rummage through your bags when you are not looking. I caught one going through my bag and asked what he was doing. He said he had to inspect my bad to see what I brought to the range. After I got home I realized I was missing a set of back up iron sights that were in my bag. And they turn people away and refuse to allow them to shoot if you have something they personally do not like. They told one person he could not shoot a Mosin Nagant, a bolt action rifle with a lot of recoil, with a muzzle brake. They have told people that a Sig Brace makes a gun an illegal SBR and would not allow them on the range. They do not allow ANY NFA items to be used on the range. Well some do and some don't but you do not know which way it will go until you have already paid and got to the range itself. They have a skeet/trap range, a benchrest range and a pistol range but most days everything but the benchrest range is closed. The benchrest range is just that, you shoot from a bench. No standing is allowed, no practicing your draw is allowed and you cannot shoot faster than one shot per second. And be prepared for other customers to try to fondle your crap. It costs 5.50 for two hours. They are also closed one weekend a month for training and the pistol range is generally booked every weekend for HCP classes. Another place, the best IMHO, is Norris range in Norris Tennessee which is about 20-30 minutes from Knoxville. It has no RSOs so anything goes as long as you are being safe. You can shoot anything and everything there expect machine guns. Other members will also keep an eye out for safety related issues and call people on it. They have a 200 yard range with target boards at 50, ~123 and 200 yards. They also have two shorter "pistol" ranges. It costs $40 per year and you get a key for access to the range. It has covered benches, a port-a-potty and is a great place to just hang out with other shooters. It does allow you to shoot steel targets. The second best place in Knoxville is the Moose Lodge off of Callahan drive in Knoxville. It has a short pistol range and a 100 yard rifle range that can be stretched to about 140 yards if you walk into the woods. It costs $75 per year and give you access to everything at the lodge. They have weekly dinners for members, they have a members only pool, a golf putting green to practice as well as decent restrooms. The range itself is a block building with the front opening towards the range. It is a little louder than the other ranges but it is also the most protected from the elements. It does not allow you to shoot steel targets. Those are probably the best ranges in the Knoxville area. In Oak Ridge, which is about 20-30 minutes from Knoxville there is ORSA. It is the longest range within a few hours of Knoxville. It has a 1,000 yard range as well as shorter ranges. It is more expensive than the other ranges but does offer you the ability to stretch your legs with your guns. And finally. If, when, you decide to move to Tennessee act like you suffered from amnesia. Forget EVERYTHING about California and do not try to change our little slice of heaven into the California you miss. We are getting a lot of people from liberal safe havens and I am worried Tennessee will become one as well. I would much rather piss off someone so badly they refuse to come to Tennessee than take a chance on that someone trying to change Tennessee into a liberal state.3 points

I got my card in the mail today! Gawd, I think it was 10-12 days after I filled out the forms? Would have taken 9-12 months in NY, and I might not have even gotten it! Crazy... Wifey's all over this, she wants a compact .380, I think I'd prefer a 9 for-carry, and she wants to get a little .22 so the kids can come to the range w/ us, WTF! I was looking at the Walther's, as they have a range of .380's and 9mm to pick from, are reputable, quality manuf., etc., however I don't know of any ranges/store's around here that have 'em to rent? The one by me offers a try-before-you-buy, but it's only a few rounds, and frankly, I'd want to just go down-the-line and try half their inventory, LOL! I Don't even know if they have any Walthers? I'm starting to see why owning a 'collection' of handgun's is essential! Try someone's piece out on the range one day and you've just got to go get one! I 'spose that's how swinger's get started? I like the Bodyguard .380 S&W makes, that's a slick looking gun, and I can try out the M&P regular-size at my local store's range.. their compact-for-carry looks nice. But man, the Ruger's are pretty slick, too, damn. :wall: I'm not going to be able to pick just one, I know it... Now I'm going to need a gun safe, too! - K2 points

I am a Vet and I have never walked through the doors of a VA hospital and never will. I have always paid for insurance for my medical bills for myself and my family. I have no use for anything the Federal Government has to offer me that I did not pay for or into first and they are looking for ways to screw me along with millions of other Americans out of their Social Security. They stole all the funds out of it and use them on pet projects. When Social Security laws were handed down it stated that no one except Social Security recipients were to receive funds from it. All that's left in the account are useless IOU's that no politician intends on paying back. If they ever sent me pain pills via UPS or any other carrier I would refuse them and make the driver take them back................... :mad:2 points
-
This partly explains why the VA is so adamant about getting as many Vets as possible on drugs. Particularly pain killers. It's easy to write off an addicted vet as "incompetent" and then remove their weapons from their possession.2 points

I would say the same thing about people who follow grown men playing silly games with a ball. Many people find fictitious things dumb or beneath them but sports are equally worthless. It's all pass time. If it makes you happy (and it's legal) it's all good.2 points

I've been arrested three times. First was a gun charge in another state and was an A misdemeanor, fine plus 1 year in jail. Dismissed. Second was a felony assault. Unfounded by DA. Third was a DUI. Convicted. I've been clean and sober for 16.5 years and not one lick of trouble since. However, I should have been arrested a dozen times prior. I had a rough life, made my bed and slept in it. I own the trouble I caused and got into. Stupid people do stupid things, the smart people clean up there messes and never return to it.2 points

I wanted to get this out here now so it is on our minds as we go into November and December. Tennessee Action Pistol will be hosting our weekly match December 16th (last match of the year FYI), but will be doing it with a goal of more than just friendly competition and practice. Most of us are blessed more than we realize and this is our Clubs and our participants way of giving back. We will be lowering the match fee to $5.00 that Wednesday with the donation of $15 or more in new unwrapped toy(s) . Donate as much as you can and would like as they are going to a good cause. We are partnering with several organizations in Gallatin and will be donating them to help make some less fortunate kids Christmas just a little brighter. I will have a toy bin set up at the range (Sumner Gun & Supply in Gallatin) for drop offs anytime up until December 16th. On the 17th we will pile them into the truck (hopefully trucks) and take them to be donated. This match will be a fun match, so load up the mags! Hope to have the new sponsors targets in by then so we will have more than cardboard and steel to shoot at! Looking forward to the regular weekly matches until then. See y'all at the range1 point

Last week, I owned a Glock 19... This week I own a Sig P320. I am a Glock fan. I got to hold one after complaining about the glock trigger to a LGS. It was well reviewed and the grip felt like it pointed well, so I said, why not, and bought it. Here's what I found... Both are polymer pistols. Both have a long standing record of reliability. For me, that's there the similarities end. One is a boulder, the other is an arrow. One feels like a fresh baked potato the other feels like a crisp apple. As a glock guy, I'm used to getting a lot of flack for my tupperware. But the customizations are endless. With the Glock I felt like a mechanic. With the Sig, I feel like a surgeon. They Grip: The grip angle of the P320 reminds me of a 1911. It points well and keeps thumbs out of the danger zone. The thickness of the grip is solid. It seems more ergonomic. It feels like theres feedback from the handle due to the factory stipling. If you grip it tight, you'll know it. I ran it under water, the grip still felt great. It's thicker than the glock, but not by much. The mag release is out of the way, but easy to find with thumb. You have to make a purposeful effort to push the mag release. But, in a rush, you know exactly where it is. Mag drop drills and reloading was easy. I went from empty to mag drop to reload and back on target with ease. Accuracy, Recoil and shooting: Accuracy is great. No other way of saying it. The recoil is medium, very similar to the G19. Gets back back on target easily. Trigger: The Trigger is awesome. It's my favorite part of the gun. Theres a crisp break after a very slight take up. The trigger reset is short. Overall I would give the gun a 9.5/10.1 point

I just finished this one up. High cut under the trigger guard and checkered at 30 LPI to match the mainspring housing. French border cut on the slide. I refinished in Norrell's moly resin to color match the original parkerized finish. Larger photo here: http://www.guntechtips.com/images/doc-sa-2.jpg1 point

Don't sell her ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Here is the reason I say that. My first car was a 1970 Road Runner that me and my dad spent 2 years doing a ground up restoration. I traded that car for a 1993 Corvette that i totaled. Replaced that car with 1988 454ss Silverado wrapped it around a oak tree. I had three of the coolest cars at my high school all three were special to me but every day i think about the Road Runner I have a picture of it on my desk at work you will miss it the moment the tail lights disappear don't do it!!!1 point

The wife is supposed to give birth around Dec 10th (first kid, hard to nail down the date) so a lot of stuff will be going towards the baby. However she wants another 1911 - depending if she likes 10mm we might be getting a RIA 10mm 1911 As for me? Probably another Dillon press. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk1 point

See, there in lies the tricky part of pricing. I looked at that page and some of the prices are too high and some too low. Some are mudder trucks that have been beat to hell and some aren't. It is a difficult thing to price. But you're right, cash will be needed and that's the person I want to buy her if she sells. It means that they'll finish the job. You made me laugh. Your right about girls getting dirty, but Matilda is a classy brawd. She never leaves the gravel/pavement. I don't like the thought of her getting injured. LOL Both of our DD's are going to be paid off in full next month. Meaning we'll have 3 vehicles that are solely ours. Monkey's Dodge 2500 is what we use to venture to town during bad weather. Matilda is all time 4 wheel drive but she is squirrely on ice. Id never risk it with her. We use his truck because of the weight. And we are bearen (by choice) so there will be no one to give her to when we're old and too senile to drive. There's the problem. My husband LOVES this truck. Which is hilarious because when I found her on Craigslist 4 years ago he went to look at her while I was at work. She was sitting under a tree just wasting away. He called me at work and said "I don't think this is the one for you, let's keep looking". I went after work and I could see underneath all the dirt and disgusting mold what she COULD be. we've gotten her half way there but we've been exhausted between moving and everything else. But I think my most selfless act would be to keep her because of how much he loves her. He just cringes when I say anything about selling her. I have 6 days left out of my 7. After that with no nibbles, she will stay in the Monkey household. That's where I am at now. I'm literally going to go nuts and keep her if she doesn't sell in 6 days. Then I will go even crazier and do the body work in the spring. Oy. Drove her yesterday. It made my heart pitter patter. Like spending time with a child you love. Except I don't really care for kids as much as I do dogs. LOL You sound A LOT like me. Believe it or not, even though she is huge and a hoss and when you are driving her it feels like a tank; she trurns on a dime and hauls ass too. I've given us a 7 day period where she "might" sell. I'm 97.9% sure she won't. I am OK with that. She'd be in the garage if she fit but she's a BBB so outside in the sun is where she sits. Guys, I really appreciate all the help. I really feel like at this point, I know what path to take and the right thing to do is. http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/5280905013.html Here's the link if you want to see what she looks like. Thanks again!1 point

I have an old Toyota Celica. Chaos. Chaos and I have been together fit about fifteen years. 100k miles, three engines, a wreck and a full ground up rebuild. At the end of the day she is a satin black import that is with $2000 if I felt like ripping someone off. Regardless of the $15,000 she had seen in the last ten years on performance parts, or new engines. She is nasty and difficult to drive. Loud and annoying. But she hugs the road and puts a smile on my face every time she blows a fireball out of her side pipe. She lives in my garage, and will fit as long as she wants to. The new Mustang lives in the driveway. Sent from my LGLS740 using Tapatalk1 point

It sounds to me like you're at that tricky point where you've actually got to double down and commit to doing the rest of the work - or be happy where she is today. And, from this thread and your ad, I expect that's what's really bugging you. You're weary from the work you've already put in - and Lord knows you've spent more than you'll ever get back out. So, you're at a bit of an impasse. Your ad is rich enough that if anyone bites - they're not going to use it as a beater, they're going to do the work. It's a seemingly perfect out. They'll restore it the rest of the way, and you can dedicate the funds to another project. If it doesn't sell, you've likely got your answer as well. You guys can buckle down and finish the job. You may be a bit like I was when I got my 1977 FJ40. It was the first car that I ever bought, and I restored it as much as I could on my college student budget in the early 90's. I loved that truck. I had to sell it when I moved to Seattle for grad school because I needed a car that was really reliable - not just mostly reliable. I missed that truck dearly. That said, it didn't take long in the XJ that I traded for it for some of that longing to wear off. I liked being able to get out of my new truck without smelling like exhaust. I liked being able to have a conversation with the passenger without yelling. It was a trade off, but a good one at the time. 20 years later, I'd love to get another one. I've got a CJ7 that I've restored, and it's great for sunny days. Whenever I drive it I really miss that old FJ. So that said, if you sell it, you'll miss it dearly. It sounds like you guys are in a place in your life where you can likely afford to keep it. But it also sounds like it may take a while to do the rest of the body work. If you get an offer at your price, that's likely somebody who's going to love that truck. I'd sell it and feel good about it. That said, if it sits for a while and doesn't bring what you want - you've likely got your answer, too. Buckle down and get that truck done.1 point

I have to imagine Disney will do a good job with this. Star Wars isn't some cult following and Disney paid like 4 billion dollars for the rights. They literally have the eyes of the world on them. The offical trailer on Youtube has already crossed the 40 million mark. People expect a lot out of this franchise and after the last trio flopped, I seriously doubt they'll just throw it together. But there in lies the problem. It's Star Wars, so even if it sucks... they'll make a killing on merch and people will gobble it up. I fully expect the next two months to be like this:1 point

Assuming insurance is relatively inexpensive, I'd keep it. It's paid for and doesn't cost much just sitting there. Drive it to work twice a month or so to keep it up. Go play in the dirt every now and then. Every good girl likes getting dirty, from time to time. ;)1 point

Sounds like it's a matter of because it doesnt affect you it doesnt matter? I guess hunters, trap shooters, etc shouldnt worry about squawking over mag restrictions and rifle/handgun bans because it doesnt affect them (yet)? Just making an observation as the mentality of not caring about the plight of others doesn't tend to bother us if we arent directly affected... Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk1 point

Whether they admit it or not the majority of gun owners are just not really "gun people"....just like most hammer owners are not master builders. Most are gun owners....and that is it...gun owners....just like you might be a lawnmower owner. In fact you will actually use your lawnmower more every year than the typical gun owner uses their gun to practice. Unfortunately the majority of them view their defensive guns as magic talismans that will ward off evil with no effort required on the part of the owner. So why would they need to practice? And that is largely the "American way" ..."You can have it faster and cheaper and requires no effort , attention or discipline and you will be just as good or better than people who have spent a lifetime learning to properly use the tools". We hear that all the time with appliances and new technology involving tools and sporting equipment. And technology is great (to a point) but you still have to know how to use it, and if it involves operating in concert with others THAT is a skill unto itself. Being able to point a gun muzzle and pull a trigger is the last 5% of the solution.....yet most people spend 95% of their training time (if they train at all...and MOST don't train at all) on that last 5%. The problem is that 95% DO NOT TRAIN AT ALL.....So it does get frustrating when all your homies talk big game but can't make an open spot in their schedule once in 6 months to get out and work on some skills that if you ever HAVE to use could save their life or the life of a loved one. It is easier to just stay home and watch the game than to get out and expose your weaknesses..... And THAT is a big part of it. Why is it that cops don't show up on range days where the police dept supplies the ammo for FREE. Good grief....if someone gave me FREE AMMO and all I had to do was show up I'd be there early and they'd have to run me off so they could close at the end of the day. But the overwhelming majority of cops - who carry a gun for work every day and confront possible offenders everyday- are largely just not interested in getting better at operating their equipment. They look at it as an imposition on their personal time to improve their skills with a tool that if they have to use will be under life and death circumstances..... A big part is that they don't want to have to go do something they are not good at...well how the hell do you get better if you don't practice? And the same is true for the typical gun owner.....they don't want to risk embarrassment in front of their peers so they never go do any realistic training . Besides they read stuff in gun rags all the time about "all you have to do is point and pull" or "simply racking your shotgun's action will scare off the bad guys, vampires , the IRS , and other undead ghouls." So why WOULD they go expend money, time, sweat, and hard work on learning to defend themself when the NRA magazine is full of grandmas with J frames who successfully defended themselves? Because the NRA Armed Citizen section does not report losses...only wins. You never read about the people who get killed , crippled, or seriously injured...or about folks who shot someone who didn't need to be shot , or who shot a bystander because they missed their intended target.....and those things DO HAPPEN.The NRA magazine only prints the positive outcomes. And that is why we train. So that IF we are faced with a life threatening event we will already have a page in our mental rolodex that we can access where we have experienced something similar before and we have a course of action to follow...not try to make up something on the fly for a situation we have never seen before. We will also have a modicum of skill to operate the mechanical device (gun) without having to get the owners manual out and read it while we are being attacked. That is where practice comes in. And in the big picture it also makes us confident in our abilities and in ourselves and that carries over into all aspects of our lives.....but what do I know?1 point

The lightness of their projectiles is because they are all copper without lead. However, I have never seen an issue with the Barnes bullets being too light. In fact, the 110gr DPX is probably the second best 38spl load only to the 135 gr Gold Dot from in every test I can find. Those 129gr Hydrashocks do perform poorly. I have some of the old 125 gr Federal jacket hollow points I would like to test. They were discontinued about ten years ago.1 point

This topic was brought up on the Megan Kelly files on Fox last evening. It was discussed by about 3 + Megan one being from the Down Under Country. I had to laugh when he said that the people in the country have recovered back and now own about the same amount of guns they did back during confiscation but this time there are not quite as many shotguns and more Hi powered Rifles. Sounds like they may have a couple of those markets like Ted mentioned down there huh??? All that money the government spent back then buying old shot guns didn't do anything but give everyone money towards new and better weapons. Kind of Ironic huh??? More power to the people down under is all I can say............. That should be proof enough that if people want to own guns they will own them one way or another. Also now the Australian government has no clue who all has them now because no one registered them like they did the first time. So now they can't come and take them like they could the first time............. :up:1 point
