There are several places to shoot in the Knoxville area. You have Volunteer Rifle and Pistol Clue but it is probably the worst place to go. Not because of the facilities but because of the staff that works there as well as some of the other customers. The RSOs are overbearing, control freaks that seem to look for ways to make your visit miserable. They have told people to be quiet because people are trying to shoot as if gunshots were quiet. They will steal your brass if given the chance. They will rummage through your bags when you are not looking. I caught one going through my bag and asked what he was doing. He said he had to inspect my bad to see what I brought to the range. After I got home I realized I was missing a set of back up iron sights that were in my bag. And they turn people away and refuse to allow them to shoot if you have something they personally do not like. They told one person he could not shoot a Mosin Nagant, a bolt action rifle with a lot of recoil, with a muzzle brake. They have told people that a Sig Brace makes a gun an illegal SBR and would not allow them on the range. They do not allow ANY NFA items to be used on the range. Well some do and some don't but you do not know which way it will go until you have already paid and got to the range itself. They have a skeet/trap range, a benchrest range and a pistol range but most days everything but the benchrest range is closed. The benchrest range is just that, you shoot from a bench. No standing is allowed, no practicing your draw is allowed and you cannot shoot faster than one shot per second. And be prepared for other customers to try to fondle your crap. It costs 5.50 for two hours. They are also closed one weekend a month for training and the pistol range is generally booked every weekend for HCP classes. Another place, the best IMHO, is Norris range in Norris Tennessee which is about 20-30 minutes from Knoxville. It has no RSOs so anything goes as long as you are being safe. You can shoot anything and everything there expect machine guns. Other members will also keep an eye out for safety related issues and call people on it. They have a 200 yard range with target boards at 50, ~123 and 200 yards. They also have two shorter "pistol" ranges. It costs $40 per year and you get a key for access to the range. It has covered benches, a port-a-potty and is a great place to just hang out with other shooters. It does allow you to shoot steel targets. The second best place in Knoxville is the Moose Lodge off of Callahan drive in Knoxville. It has a short pistol range and a 100 yard rifle range that can be stretched to about 140 yards if you walk into the woods. It costs $75 per year and give you access to everything at the lodge. They have weekly dinners for members, they have a members only pool, a golf putting green to practice as well as decent restrooms. The range itself is a block building with the front opening towards the range. It is a little louder than the other ranges but it is also the most protected from the elements. It does not allow you to shoot steel targets. Those are probably the best ranges in the Knoxville area. In Oak Ridge, which is about 20-30 minutes from Knoxville there is ORSA. It is the longest range within a few hours of Knoxville. It has a 1,000 yard range as well as shorter ranges. It is more expensive than the other ranges but does offer you the ability to stretch your legs with your guns. And finally. If, when, you decide to move to Tennessee act like you suffered from amnesia. Forget EVERYTHING about California and do not try to change our little slice of heaven into the California you miss. We are getting a lot of people from liberal safe havens and I am worried Tennessee will become one as well. I would much rather piss off someone so badly they refuse to come to Tennessee than take a chance on that someone trying to change Tennessee into a liberal state.3 points

I got my card in the mail today! Gawd, I think it was 10-12 days after I filled out the forms? Would have taken 9-12 months in NY, and I might not have even gotten it! Crazy... Wifey's all over this, she wants a compact .380, I think I'd prefer a 9 for-carry, and she wants to get a little .22 so the kids can come to the range w/ us, WTF! I was looking at the Walther's, as they have a range of .380's and 9mm to pick from, are reputable, quality manuf., etc., however I don't know of any ranges/store's around here that have 'em to rent? The one by me offers a try-before-you-buy, but it's only a few rounds, and frankly, I'd want to just go down-the-line and try half their inventory, LOL! I Don't even know if they have any Walthers? I'm starting to see why owning a 'collection' of handgun's is essential! Try someone's piece out on the range one day and you've just got to go get one! I 'spose that's how swinger's get started? I like the Bodyguard .380 S&W makes, that's a slick looking gun, and I can try out the M&P regular-size at my local store's range.. their compact-for-carry looks nice. But man, the Ruger's are pretty slick, too, damn. :wall: I'm not going to be able to pick just one, I know it... Now I'm going to need a gun safe, too! - K2 points

I am a Vet and I have never walked through the doors of a VA hospital and never will. I have always paid for insurance for my medical bills for myself and my family. I have no use for anything the Federal Government has to offer me that I did not pay for or into first and they are looking for ways to screw me along with millions of other Americans out of their Social Security. They stole all the funds out of it and use them on pet projects. When Social Security laws were handed down it stated that no one except Social Security recipients were to receive funds from it. All that's left in the account are useless IOU's that no politician intends on paying back. If they ever sent me pain pills via UPS or any other carrier I would refuse them and make the driver take them back................... :mad:2 points
-
This partly explains why the VA is so adamant about getting as many Vets as possible on drugs. Particularly pain killers. It's easy to write off an addicted vet as "incompetent" and then remove their weapons from their possession.2 points

As you know, The wind is always bad out west! Personally I'd be looking for a good .204 or .22-250 I know that either of the 17s will work, but I think you might get frustrated trying to dope the wind for every shot.2 points

I would say the same thing about people who follow grown men playing silly games with a ball. Many people find fictitious things dumb or beneath them but sports are equally worthless. It's all pass time. If it makes you happy (and it's legal) it's all good.2 points

I've been arrested three times. First was a gun charge in another state and was an A misdemeanor, fine plus 1 year in jail. Dismissed. Second was a felony assault. Unfounded by DA. Third was a DUI. Convicted. I've been clean and sober for 16.5 years and not one lick of trouble since. However, I should have been arrested a dozen times prior. I had a rough life, made my bed and slept in it. I own the trouble I caused and got into. Stupid people do stupid things, the smart people clean up there messes and never return to it.2 points

I just finished this one up. High cut under the trigger guard and checkered at 30 LPI to match the mainspring housing. French border cut on the slide. I refinished in Norrell's moly resin to color match the original parkerized finish. Larger photo here: http://www.guntechtips.com/images/doc-sa-2.jpg1 point

Personally, that statement by Tony Guglielmo should ring a bell with these people that think they can just pass a law and everyone will bow down. This is the statement that I read that really nailed my thoughts: Millions of people in this country have always considered that (the Constitution) something worthy to fight for by any means and to die for in foreign countries. How much more is this true to fight for on their own soil?1 point

Don't sell her ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Here is the reason I say that. My first car was a 1970 Road Runner that me and my dad spent 2 years doing a ground up restoration. I traded that car for a 1993 Corvette that i totaled. Replaced that car with 1988 454ss Silverado wrapped it around a oak tree. I had three of the coolest cars at my high school all three were special to me but every day i think about the Road Runner I have a picture of it on my desk at work you will miss it the moment the tail lights disappear don't do it!!!1 point

Ok, after reading the ad and looking at the truck you are not really wanting to sell her. You are actually hoping no one buys her. You listed ever flaw she has and has already planted in any potential buyers mind that they will be paying somewhere close to 10 grand on a vehicle that will need at least another 5 grand spent on her from the get go........... That is sure sign you don't want her to sell..... :rock:1 point

I had a 1990 GMC 1500 Sierra that I bought new in 1990 and paid cash for it. I put 240,000 miles on her and much of the time it was pulling a bass Boat all or southeastern U.S. fishing bass tournaments. All the time I owned that truck I only had to put two rebuilt trannys in her and regular maintenance. It still had original timing chain in it. My Son gave me a Jeep Cherokee once I quit touring and it will pull bass boat to all local lakes. I parked the GMC for about a month and got a hair up my but to set it out front of my house with a 4 sale sign on it That same day I had 5 people stop by and ask about it and how much I wanted for it. I to this day cannot explain why I sold it rather than just slowly fix her up but I put a price of $2,500.00 on it back in 2009 thinking no one would pay that for it. A guy and his wife stopped in that same afternoon and test drove it and came back and ask what I wanted for it. I said $2.500.00 non negotiation. He said I was asking to much for a truck with that many miles on it and the age of it. I said that is the price and not a dime less. He said thanks and went and got in with his wife and left. An hour later he came back and handed me 25 folding Ben Franklin's and I signed the title and watched it drive away. 5 minutes after it was out of sight I regretted selling it and to this day still regret it. Make sure that once you do sell it you don't end up like me. Regretting it and helpless to do anything about it.........jmho1 point

Plight of others? What are YOU doing for the poor in Africa then?1 point

So the dilemma is sell it or keep it and the issue with keeping it is that it doesn't get driven much? Simple solution - drive it more. There, problem solved. You're welcome. :pleased:1 point

In short, sell it! I don't say this lightly and I offer my experience as an example. My wife owned a Ford Edge that she loved, and I owned a 2013 BOSS 302 Mustang that I dearly loved. I had waited several years for this specific specialty car to be released by Ford to the point of passing up on other performance vehicles like the 2012 version that had different stripes. When I finally got the car I did a few things to customize it, babied it, and truly enjoyed driving it to work every day. I was so attached to this car that every time I walked out to it my heart would speed up, and I drove it at every opportunity that I had. I even took vacation time to take it out east to drive The Tail of The Dragon and the Diamondback in NC. But our lifestyle changed. My wife, (who refused to camp for over 30 years of marriage), decided that she liked camping so much that we bought a travel trailer. This necessitated trading her Edge for a pick-up to tow the trailer. My wife is short, and she couldn't handle driving the truck at all nor would she dare to drive the BOSS so we carpooled. We did this mostly in the truck, but I soon realized that her not having a vehicle that she could comfortably drive wasn't fair to her because it limited her freedom to move on her own accord. By the time that I owned the BOSS for 1.5 years it had pretty much so become an expensive garage queen which hurt even more, so I traded it in for a Cadillac XTS for my wife. During this process my wife thought I'd back out at the last minute but I didn't. Afterwards, my wife posted on Facebook that it was the single most selfless act that she'd ever witnessed, but to me it was worth it because she dearly loves that car! I still miss my car particularly when I see another BOSS on the road, (there's a 2012 in my neighborhood). My point is that an emotional attachment to a thing shouldn't overrule practicality especially if the thing is not being used. :2cents:1 point

My wife would not be at home while I go shooting, especially FA. She loves guns. One time, when I first got my 50 BMG, she hadn't got much sleep because class and homework at college. I started pulling out the 50 and all the other junk trying not to wake her because I knew she was exhausted. Well, she woke up, seen I was going shooting without her and got upset! Lol She was like, you're going shooting the 50 without me? Oh heck no! It was the first time firing the 50 new, so that made it worse. She was like, don't ever think I don't want to go shooting with you. My look was like :stare: I found a good one!1 point

Don't feel bad my wife could careless about guns either, I was sighting in a scope on a suppressed ar for juvenile hunt in a couple weeks, my son was sick on the couch and they were both watching TV, went inside asked them how loud it was as I was putting it away, so i went back and asked her if she wanted to shoot a mag FA, she said nope..walked away shaking my head...1 point

If your bottom dollar is set slightly above what someone is realistically willing to give then I think you've already answered your own question. Subconsciously I think that means you want to keep it. Zero disrespect meant BTW. How do I know this ? Because I've been there with guns, cars, many other items we won't speak of,lol.1 point

This. I never understood caliber snobbery and I've felt confidence in any 380 I've ever carried.1 point

Sell it. Vehicles that aren't driven regularly will deteriorate, and as they do either they become money pits or else get neglected further. Unless you are really into collecting and restoring cars/trucks, and have the tools, facilities and know-how to do so, if you ever get the urge to own a restored version of this it's far easier and ultimately much less expensive to buy one that someone else has done the work to, maybe even someday this truck again. Ask me how I know all of this ...1 point
-
I'm just the opposite. Unless it is something really collectible and sure to increase in value by multiple times, I say dump it. I bought a 1977 F150 new, ran the crap out of it, rebuilt the engine, ran it for several more years and then dumped it because I was tired of it. Bought a new 1989 f150 and haven't looked back. I decided I like new technology instead of rolling around underneath my vehicles.1 point

FYI, they are taking orders again as of the 16th. First up of course is the holsters they lost in the fire and then the pending orders. Good to see them back in production and especially so quickly - I was expecting a few months.1 point

+1 to Remora. I have several for different guns/configuration. My G43 works well in it. I'm curious about the Alien Gear ones though. I may give them a try at some point.1 point

I also tried to tell myself the 26 was all I needed... it didn't work :) The 43 disappears in any iwb holster combo. I bought a $20 kydex taco on ebay and it does great.1 point

To be fair, George Lucas said the same thing about books not being canon for future movies long before Disney was anywhere close to the franchise. As soon as the books started coming out, Lucas said he had authorized them, but wouldn't take them in to consideration if/when he made any more Star Wars movies. The books really do hem them in many ways. Pretty much every year in the lives of the main characters from the end of ROTJ onwards has been occupied by the books. That means any movie has to go the the end of the books and start from there. Chewie can't be in them because he's dead by that point, Han and Leia have to be married and have had 3 kids, Luke has to have restarted the Jedi order in a specific way, the public has to have general knowledge about the Jedi and the Sith, you have to deal with a Luke Skywalker character who is as powerful as Yoda or Palpatine, plus he's not the most powerful one around, etc. I can understand saying "screw that. That's not the story we want to tell." Then you also have the issues of references to the Clone Wars in the books not lining up with the 3 prequel movies. The Dreadnaught starships come to mind. The books make them out to have been all the rage and kind of the standard issue capitol ship during the Clone Wars, but they're nowhere to be found in the movies. Oops.1 point

The problem is that what starts there gets others to try the same thing in other places. Look at what's happening with the SAFE act. The Feds (Dems) now want to try it on a national level.1 point
