  9. Gentlemen, here is the long and the short of it. I may have walked backwards through a corn field (which I highly discourage doing) and ended up with a Mac 10 in my Trust. Its a whole story but a guy sold his company to another company and the thing needed a home and it was easier for him to sell it to me for nothing than deal with other means. Its all legal, he would just have rather a shooter have it than a company or his ex wife. 1) find of the century 2) WTF do I do next?? I own sbrs, sbs, aows, and silencers but never been down this road. Here are my concerns/questions. Here is what i would like to see. 45 smg with a solid foregrip, collapsible butt stock, silencer (i have one full auto rated) and a handful of mags. What I dont know is if a smg is also simultaneously an sbr (or if it depends on the registration or something quirky), if there are laws against a foregrip, what uppers to look at to get a threaded set up (578x28), where to buy mags, or...basically anything. I took a look at this thing and it just seemed like....a few more points of contact would make it significantly safer. I haven't even fired the dang thing yet. I'm sure its fine, my dad is good buddies with the guy and he is an upstanding dude. I just don't want some street sweeper pistol in my arsenal that ends up being an expensive paper weight because I don't feel comfortable getting it out when friends are around. Does anyone have any experience with these? Particularly upgrades? Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

  11. Something just isn't right about this story.  :squint:     Was the Naval Officer under orders to be armed while in uniform off base?  That is very rare in public, only done for security while transporting high value or sensitive items (or prisoners).  Also, when you are under orders to be armed off base (off post for us Army guys) its a point A to point B sort of thing, so side trips to a Waffle House isn't part of the plan.    Or...., was this some member of the Navy who was OCing his personal firearm.  That would be against regulations.  No personal item can be worn as part of the uniform unless its on an authorized list (like personal sunglasses, watches, rings, etc., etc.).  I would also bet that the Navy has standing orders that its members cannot CCP or HCP while on duty and in uniform.

Hattie B's for some good hot chicken, The Southern for awesome steaks, Demo's for great & cheap Italian family style restaurant.  Just walk around and look at things, most of the stuff is within walking distance if you stay downtown.     Hattie B's is a must though if you like hot chicken.   Almost forgot, Jack's BBQ is also on the top of the list.

  26. Downtown there is a section called 'Broadway', which is the name of the street.  That's a place to go to.  I'm sure there are Blue's bars down there, though most are country music.  There are a zillion bars as well as other tourist places.  Printer's Alley is within walking distance and is pretty cool.   Andrew Jackson, whose face is on the $20, lived here.  If interested in US history his home is a great place to visit.  There is also a civil war fort down in Franklin.  It hasn't been rebuilt, though all the trenches, etc... are still there.   From a food perspective, Nashville has a local favorite called Hot Chicken.  It isn't for the feint of heart, so wouldn't be good unless you like super hot food. I think they coat it in egg and milk and then somehow get a 1/2 inch exterior of cayenne pepper on it before frying.   For birthday cake, check out Gigi's cupcakes.  They are starting to franchise, though I think they are still only local.   I hope you have a great time.

  27. Absolutely!  I also think that people worry a tad too much about it.  I am all about staying legal, but I have known multiple federal LEOs and have a good sense of what federal prosecutors are willing to concern themselves with.  I am very confident that the likelihood of the average person being hammered over this nuance in the law is virtually zero.  On multiple occasions I saw the feds pass on cases involving convicted felons in possession of crack cocaine and a firearm used in a gun crime.  I have also personally dealt with a case where a woman lied on her ATF form to buy a pistol that she presumably planned to use to kill her ex-boyfriend who was a fellow LEO (the reason she was caught is that I worked at the gun store part time and knew she was under a domestic violence protection order when she tried to buy the gun).  If the feds aren't going to bother with those kinds of crimes, they sure don't give a hoot about Average Joe and whether his AR pistol might have ever had a 16" barrel on it.

  30.   He's right on.   What an FFL puts on a 4473, either correctly or incorrectly, does not determine the actual legal classification of a firearm, nor the legality of a given future configuration of it.   Used lowers are transferred as "other firearm", same as virgin lowers. However, if the used lower was initially configured as a rifle, it cannot be configured as a pistol.   A lower cannot become a rifle or a pistol without an attached barrel. In other words, you can buy a new complete lower with stock attached, but it's still perfectly legal to make a pistol from it (of course you would remove the stock before attaching the short barrel, eh?).   Obviously, if you make a rifle from a virgin lower yourself, the odds are nobody could ever know that if you later made it into a pistol -- but it's nonetheless illegal should you somehow be found out. But equally obvious is that if the lower left a manufacturer configured as a rifle, it's a simple matter to find out its original configuration should push ever come to shove between you and the ATF.       Perfectly legal to make a pistol from virgin lower, later configure it as a rifle and sell it through FFL as such. The new owner could still legally make it into a pistol. (unlikely, I know, as he would have to know and trust the actual history of that lower).   Again, what an FFL puts on a 4473, either correctly or incorrectly, does not determine the actual legal classification of a firearm, nor the legality of a given future configuration of it.   If he incorrectly marks your revolver as a "long gun", does that make it so? Of course not. If he correctly marks your used original rifle lower as "other firearm", does that mean you can make a pistol from it? Nope.   - OS

  35. Simple rule of thumb for me, if my gun is not welcome, I am not welcome.  Same goes for my wife.  let me explain that one, she is blind, has a guide dog and we have been turned away from many well known restaurants, such as TGIF, I do believe in talking to the owners and trying to convince them that no gun signs are a sign of magical thinking.  I ask them, do you really think that your sign will stop a bad guy who is desperate from robbing you, or an ex from coming in and shooting one of your employees or customers?  if they are honest, they say no, it wont.  Then ask, do you think it would prevent me from eating here?  spending my money at your establishment?  I have been back ground checked, not a felon, and I carry for my protection and my family protection only.  Do you have a problem with that?  They will probably say no.  I have seen signs come down here in OKlahoma because I asked these questions.   One response I did get was "I have the signs up to get a 10% discount on my insurance"  I now carry a little folder, with the red circle and line drawn through it with a tornado in the middle.  I tell them this sign should get you another 10%, and it will be just as effective or even MORE effective than their no gun sign.   We cant be silent, but we can be polite.   You be the difference!!!!

  36. Yep, a MG is the safest thing to have you can hang a kitchen sink off it if you want. The Lage uppers are nice and there's a lot of MACs still winning the SMG shoots.   They are heavy, not really practical for target shooting but super fun to shoot full auto.  Tom Bowers (subguns.com) has a nice can with the correct mounts for the MAC's thread pitch.  I have a M10-9mm and threaded the end for my cans... I can thread it for you if you'd prefer to shoot the more standard cans on it.   Sounds like you got it for a song and dance so I'd say yeah, deal of the century... depending on make/model and accessories you're in the $4500-$6000 price range on current value.   MACs use to be the best entry into FA but they've climbed a few thou in the recent years.. back when they were still $2500-$3000 they were easy to sell.. now with them getting into the $5k range folks start saving that they'll often save a little more for an UZI or something a little more desirable but ANY FA is still a great gun!   Congrats on the find!

  42. PROTECTING OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN Donald J. Trump on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period.   The Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that belongs to all law-abiding Americans. The Constitution doesn’t create that right – it ensures that the government can’t take it away. Our Founding Fathers knew, and our Supreme Court has upheld, that the Second Amendment’s purpose is to guarantee our right to defend ourselves and our families. This is about self-defense, plain and simple.   It’s been said that the Second Amendment is America’s first freedom. That’s because the Right to Keep and Bear Arms protects all our other rights. We are the only country in the world that has a Second Amendment. Protecting that freedom is imperative. Here’s how we will do that:   Enforce The Laws On The Books   We need to get serious about prosecuting violent criminals. The Obama administration’s record on that is abysmal. Violent crime in cities like Baltimore, Chicago and many others is out of control. Drug dealers and gang members are given a slap on the wrist and turned loose on the street. This needs to stop.   Several years ago there was a tremendous program in Richmond, Virginia called Project Exile. It said that if a violent felon uses a gun to commit a crime, you will be prosecuted in federal court and go to prison for five years – no parole or early release. Obama’s former Attorney General, Eric Holder, called that a “cookie cutter” program. That’s ridiculous. I call that program a success. Murders committed with guns in Richmond decreased by over 60% when Project Exile was in place – in the first two years of the program alone, 350 armed felons were taken off the street.   Why does that matter to law-abiding gun owners? Because they’re the ones who anti-gun politicians and the media blame when criminals misuse guns. We need to bring back and expand programs like Project Exile and get gang members and drug dealers off the street. When we do, crime will go down and our cities and communities will be safer places to live.   Here’s another important way to fight crime – empower law-abiding gun owners to defend themselves. Law enforcement is great, they do a tremendous job, but they can’t be everywhere all of the time. Our personal protection is ultimately up to us. That’s why I’m a gun owner, that’s why I have a concealed carry permit, and that’s why tens of millions of Americans have concealed carry permits as well. It’s just common sense. To make America great again, we’re going to go after criminals and put the law back on the side of the law-abiding.   Fix Our Broken Mental Health System   Let’s be clear about this. Our mental health system is broken. It needs to be fixed. Too many politicians have ignored this problem for too long.   All of the tragic mass murders that occurred in the past several years have something in common – there were red flags that were ignored. We can’t allow that to continue. We need to expand treatment programs, because most people with mental health problems aren’t violent, they just need help. But for those who are violent, a danger to themselves or others, we need to get them off the street before they can terrorize our communities. This is just common sense.   And why does this matter to law-abiding gun owners? Once again, because they get blamed by anti-gun politicians, gun control groups and the media for the acts of deranged madmen. When one of these tragedies occurs, we can count on two things: one, that opponents of gun rights will immediately exploit it to push their political agenda; and two, that none of their so-called “solutions” would have prevented the tragedy in the first place. They’ve even admitted it.   We need real solutions to address real problems. Not grandstanding or political agendas.   Defend The Rights of Law-Abiding Gun Owners   GUN AND MAGAZINE BANS. Gun and magazine bans are a total failure. That’s been proven every time it’s been tried. Opponents of gun rights try to come up with scary sounding phrases like “assault weapons”, “military-style weapons” and “high capacity magazines” to confuse people. What they’re really talking about are popular semi-automatic rifles and standard magazines that are owned by tens of millions of Americans. Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of their choice. The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own.   BACKGROUND CHECKS. There has been a national background check system in place since 1998. Every time a person buys a gun from a federally licensed gun dealer – which is the overwhelming majority of all gun purchases – they go through a federal background check. Study after study has shown that very few criminals are stupid enough to try and pass a background check – they get their guns from friends/family members or by stealing them. So the overwhelming majority of people who go through background checks are law-abiding gun owners. When the system was created, gun owners were promised that it would be instant, accurate and fair. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case today. Too many states are failing to put criminal and mental health records into the system – and it should go without saying that a system’s only going to be as effective as the records that are put into it. What we need to do is fix the system we have and make it work as intended. What we don’t need to do is expand a broken system.   NATIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY. The right of self-defense doesn’t stop at the end of your driveway. That’s why I have a concealed carry permit and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit should be valid in all 50 states. A driver’s license works in every state, so it’s common sense that a concealed carry permit should work in every state. If we can do that for driving – which is a privilege, not a right – then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege.   MILITARY BASES AND RECRUITING CENTERS. Banning our military from carrying firearms on bases and at recruiting centers is ridiculous. We train our military how to safely and responsibly use firearms, but our current policies leave them defenseless. To make America great again, we need a strong military. To have a strong military, we need to allow them to defend themselves.

  43. Really? Wow never would have guessed that.....not only are you preaching to the choir you are preaching to the arch bishop. By mentioning folks playing it as a game I was referring to those who ONLY play gun games and do not actually carry guns in a serious manner on a regular basis....and there are plenty of those people shooting Idpa......and USPSA for that matter. No one with more than 4 IQ points thinks IDPA is "real" or is "training" but some of us (including some founding members) think it still should represent real life a bit more than it presently does. Will it ever be real? Not unless there is a medic standing by...in fact it will never even be as real as competently run scripted force on force evolutions but those are impossible to make objectively scored contests out of. And in the end if it is scored it needs to be "fair" and everyone experience the same test in order to declare a winner and the numerical placement of runners up......but it would add a little more realism if the penalties for misses, hits on bystanders and hits outside the high thoraxic and head were higher than they presently are.....
