FARM BUREAU  I work in the restoration business and deal with all insurance daily. They are the best and usually the cheapest. I have my boat, house and two vehicles insured with them. We just opened an office in Chattanooga and I could see if I can get an agents name for you to talk with if you would like.3 points

I actually have not had any more problems out of Tapco than any other polymer magazine. ProMag, on the other hand, has had a 100% failure rate for me. I won't even buy ProMag magazines for $1 because it is wasted money in my eyes. I have had the lips swell enough that the magazines would randomly, and spontaneously, empty themselves. The other issue is if the magazines EVER land on anything hard they crack or break a lot easier than I thought they should. They would work great as a range only magazine if you treated them gingerly, didn't pre load them and did not drop them. Give it a year or two and they will likely be worth 40-50 times what you paid, that is the ONLY value in ProMag magazines.2 points

Also, I need to say props to the Knox County PD and the TDOT truck driver. Two Knox County sheriff's blew by, but a TDOT truck stopped and then a KPD stopped and blocked traffic so I could push it to the right shoulder with much more room and safety. That left shoulder is tiny. Sent from the backwoods2 points

All parts are available from Lowe's and require no special skills. You can use this to pull water from a well or any other water source. Only a saw to cut the PVC and glue to put it together. For under $40 you can pump water from 10 feet and it is less than $0.60 per foot after that. So for me to get to 80 feet it is going to cost under $100 total. Here are the parts: A: 1 1/2" Plastic Foot Valve SKU: 27767 Cost: $16.50 (This is a one way valve) B: 1 1/2" DWV Male Adapter SKU: 331503 Cost: $0.98 C: 1 1/2"x2' PVC SCH 40 SKU: 255098 Cost: $2.81 (I used this 2' section to show how it is setup, use any length to get to water) D: 1.5" Sanitary Tee SKU: 23394 Cost: 1.09 E: Section of the 1.5" PVC pipe Cost: Free as it is cut from existing 1.5" pipe F: 1 1/2" SCH40 Cap SKU: 23899 Cost: $0.83 G: 1" Plastic Check Valve SKU: 28056 Cost: $10.76 H: 1"x3/4" PVC adapter (we couldn't get it to ring up so I do not have the SKU. It will thread into the 1" one way valve and slide over the 3/4" PVC pipe) It is marked I: 3/4" PVC pipe with several 1/4" holes drilled into it for water flow J: 3/4" PVC coupling SKU: 23850 Cost: $0.24 K: Something to block water flow into the pump handle L (whatever you can find to keep water out) L: 3/4"x10' SCH 40 PVC SKU: 23971 Cost: $2.08 Here is a closer look as the working parts of the pump: How it works is you asemble the larger, outer casing as pictured. Make sure the foot valve flow is going up. The 1.5" casing (marked in red) can be a full 10" section or more depending on how deep you need to go to reach water (I am going to 80'). The sanitary Tee should be at the vary top regardless of how much pipe you have because that is where the water is going to come out. I only used a 2' section to illustrate how everything should go together. The cap shoul have a hole drilled in it for the pump rod to pass through. Next you assemble the inner working which is similar to the outer workings only smaller. Make sure the check valve flows upward. The check valve fits snugly enough into the 1.5" pipe to give a good enough seal to pull water. Screw the one way valve into the 1"x3/4" male adapter. The section of pipe with the holes in it allows water to pass from the inside of the 3/4" section to the ouside but still inside the 1.5" sections. The water is going to raise in the 1.5" section and not the 1" section. If you try to pump water up the 3/4" section the rod will get too heavy to lift. You will need to seal the pump rod at the bottom between it and the section with holes in it so it doesn't get any water into it. It actually works in your favor because the pump rod will "float" and raise on its own. This makes pumping easier. Ans when you have the two sections assembled you slide the 1" section into the 1.5" section. Install the Tee at the top of the 1.5" casing for the water to pour out. and install the cap to center the pump rod. As you pull up on the rod water is pulled through the 1.5" foot valve but cannot go back out. As you push the pump rod down the water now pushed through the 1" one way valve. This puts water on top of the valve. The next time you pull up it pulls water through the 1.5" valve but also lifts the water that isalready on top of the 1" valve. With this setup each pump moves 1/4-1/2 gallon of water per pump. Plenty for most people. I am going to use this to pull water from about 80 feet in my well. No need for electricity to get water any more. People use this setup to pull water from hundreds of feet. This doesn't need to be vertical either, as long as the foot is under water it will work. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Dolomite Don't be fooled into thinking you need the metal valves either. The metal ones do not fit well and will need to be machined to get a decent seal.1 point

Good luck everyone! I had too much going on this summer to get any archery practice in so I'm sitting out archery season, it just wouldn't be fair to the deer to go out without proper practice. I will be hunting black powder though and I'm really looking forward to that. I'm still getting my gun dialed in just the way I want it but I'll be ready before the season starts. I'll be watching this thread tomorrow at work, hope to see some pictures.1 point

Look at it real closely with a 10x magnifier and a good flashlight. It could be a seam but it's probably just a machining mark... dull tool and/or sloppy transition. If you can't decide visually, put some penetrating oil on it and let it sit for a bit. Wipe off the excess so it looks clean and dry. Then give it a few hours and see if any more oil has oozed out. You could also put a torch or heat gun to it and see if any bubbles or smoke appears.1 point

Thanks for all the responses, it's kinda odd how hidden all the seafood restaurants are. We see a pizza joint every other building. We have been to Aunt Catfishes, Our Deck, and Norwoods so far. All were good but I'll have to say Aunt Catfishes is definitely our favorite so far.1 point

Not sure if it is possible but if you want your AR to be 100% reliable in a SHTF I would see if an AK47 will fit inside the grip. That would be the one the to make my "fighting" AR more reliable. In all seriousness I would put a extractor spring, rubber o-ring, cam pin and disconnector in the grip. Those would fix 90% of the issues a currently reliable gun gun might have. And if you have room toss a spare bolt in there.1 point

Yeah it seems like it is hovering around 120 days for electronic submissions. I recently seen where individual submissions are getting shorter and shorter. I am, hopefully, within a month of being approved on my most recent submission. What would be nice is if all gun owners could come together to get all the NFA laws repealed. The BATFE is not going anywhere so we should not waste a breath even mentioning that. I believe if ALL gun owners made the same calls we did to protect our AWs, magazines and M855 we could easily have the NFA laws seriously looked at. And if nothing else maybe a compromise that would unregulate silencers and the short barrel weapons. There is no way any of it should be regulated.1 point

Here are some pictures of what is in my "get home" bag. The first column has the nitrile gloves at the top goes into the small, easy access pocket on the outside at the top. It has very, very basic first aid items like veterinary wrap, band aids, feminine products, suture kits and finally a broken shell extractor. Column two are the two spare steel magazines which go into the bigger outside pocket on the front. Column three is my blow out kit that will go on my belt if I think I might need it. But when not in use it is in the first big compartment. And under the blow out kit is my "toolkit". Column four is the continuation of column three and another set of nitrile gloves, hearing protection, a Bic brand fire starter :), fingernail clippers and some survival cards. Columns three and four fit into the first big compartment. Column 5 is what goes into the final compartment. More gloves, another tourniquet, more first aid items, spare battery, ink pens, electrical tape and range finder. I did not realize my binoculars were not there until after I took the pictures. I also carry Orajel for a few reasons, it is obviously for any type of tooth injury but it also works on other minor wounds as well that might be a little painful. If I have a deep splinter I generally open it up a little then pack it with Orajel before trying to remove it. Works great on blisters as well. The Lifestraw, fire starter along with the baklava are all stored in the compartment for hydration systems at the very back. The flashlight and knife are on the outside. These are in addition to the other ones I generally carry. I also have a machete I carry as well but it was accidentally left in the truck. This is my blowout kit. It has most things you would need to stabilize all but the more serious wounds. It also has another tourniquet. This is my "tool kit". It has most things I would need to do basic stuff with. In the globes are patches and panty hose. In the upper bag are rubber bands. There is another pen and it is wrapped with duct tape. A Bear brand fire starter. Nut drivers, screwdriver along with bits. 550 cord, AK cleaning kit along with brush, home made Boresnake and a pair of pliers along with an adjustable wrench. And all of that fits nicely into the bag for it. This is an escape card. It has the tools to shim handcuffs, cut tape as well as pick locks. But on top of that everyone should have a handcuff key. This is a survival card. It has fish hooks, a saw, needles, snare locks or spoons for lures, pointed and blunt arrow heads as well as a gig. They are designed to be broken out of the card and used. These are the size of a credit card and are made out of stainless steel. And the whole pack weighs less than 12 pounds. I will say there are a few more things that did not make it into the picture. Heavy duty, as in contractor, trash bags. They can be used for so many things. They can keep your stuff dry or it can collect water. Slit the bottom and the sides and it becomes a poncho. Slide your feet into it when in a sleeping bag and it will keep you so much warmer. You could take two and split them and tape them together to make a shelter. Something else that will probably make it into the bag as well is some short range two way radios. I also have a solar powered cell phone charger that is in the bag as well. And I still have plenty of room for a jacket, poncho or liner or something else to keep me warm at night. And remember this is not a survival bag but a bag to get me home which will almost always be less than 25 miles. So, realistically, lack of food or water should not be an issue. Shelter and staying away from the bad guys is. And this bag is the year around bag, if we need more items because of the weather or some other reason it will get tossed in the vehicle. This is what stays by my side every day, all day. That is an Romanian Draco with a 7.5" barrel. I drilled and tapped the rear trunion for a Stormwerks AR15 style hinge to mount the KAK tube for the Shockwave "brace". The gas system has been tuned to reduce felt recoil and the trigger has been reworked resulting in a two stage trigger that breaks at a crisp 3.5 pounds. The gun itself weighs 7 pounds 13 ounces WITH the 30 round magazine and sling. That is a chopped down Saiga rifle forearm with a sling swivel holding it in place. US Palm grip with a gutted piece of 550 cord between it and the receiver to act as a ambidextrous sling point. The only thing left to do now is open up the rear sight once I get to the range. It is zeroed at 25 yards but I want to confirm at 100 or 200 yards. And the best part is this is a pistol so I can LEGALLY carry it anywhere a HCP holder can carry a pistol. Heck, I could sling it across my back and legally walk around but I would never, ever do that. Just saying that this is just as legal to carry as any other "pistol". I welcome any and all questions or comments.1 point

A cursory look says that it's a late 1944 Gustloff 98k. Mismatched parts could from someone putting a winterized or bubba'd rifle back in 98k form. Before 1968, serial numbers were not required on firearms in the US. Yours may have never had one. Gustloff was located near Berlin and by late 1944 was in bad shape. Shortcuts were already being taken to keep production numbers up.1 point

Well I got the box of Federal 7-1/2 target at Dicks for $5.48 but they were on sale. BTW, that sign at Dicks about firearms being checked by customer service doesn't apply to sidearms carried by HCP holders does it? I just "ASSUMED" it meant when bringing a gun back for warranty or taking a newly bought gun out of the store, something like that so I didn't bother to read all of the sign. If it's not a gun buster sign I don't see it pertaining to HCP holders and will ignore it. If I did see a gun buster sign I would never have went in and bought anything but I ain't checking my shootin arn in with the Marshall.1 point

Yes there is a small range at Yanahli. I believe it is rifle only, no pistols (although hunting pistols are probably ok?). You have to buy a license to use the range and only open certain hours. You also shoot through a corrugated steel pipe so make sure you have good ear protection! Some info here: https://www.tn.gov/twra/article/firing-ranges-j11 point

It is my consideration that if we do not sue at this point, some judge will be able to point to the acceptance by the general population of the violations of the law as reason to allow such actions to occur, pointing to the fact that the governments had acted without restraint from the people. I am no legal scholar, but the time seems right to act.1 point

I believe both a business card and email can be trashed, but that's not the point. The 2nd Amendment community should use one or both methods to communicate "guns free zones" come with a heavy price. If we all left business cards and sent emails, it would be a very powerful message and let business owners know just how much business is at stake. Look at the army of leftists who are trying to take away our rights. If we all make an effort we can counter the lies, misinformation and deception.1 point

You can buy an device that uses co2 cartridges that is made to fit in the flash hole. I have used that to unload a 50cal before. It will throw the bullet and powder out about 10 feet. If the cleaning cloth is forming a good enough seal, then it should clear it from the barrel as well. It works great This is it but not in stock. Wouldn't say it was growing on trees in West Tennessee but Academy Wolf chase has had Multiple numbers of Aquilla Match and Subsonic along with Winchester, Blazer and CCI Velocitor 50 round boxes for 2 weeks straight with 2 box limit. Dicks had 50 boxes of 550 in Thunderduds and 25 or more boxes of 100 round golden boy. You could get 1, 550 or three 100 rounders. Hell Bass Pro Bartlett has had 4 different kinds for a week now. And since we got 3 or 4, Academys, Dicks, Bass Pros and LGS there is quite a bit to be had. So as Runco said, its out there and not to hard to find. Just have to make several stops.1 point

Compared to driving in San Diego, I hate most Tennessee drivers. I hated the grid lock in California but when traffic flowed everyone did 90+ mph on the interstates. Out here half the people are running 10 over, the other half are running 5 under. And way to many of them feel the need to ride the left lane or block you in because they feel the need to play speed patrol and slow you down for your own safety. I will say I've driven and ridden all over the country and there is nothing like running 90 in a turbo WRX on I-5 and it 9 lanes wide on each side, plus car pool lanes, and traffic almost bumper to bumper at those speeds. If you wanna crank the adrenaline even more do it on a beefed up bike made to lane split. Sent from the backwoods1 point
