  2. PROTECTING OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN Donald J. Trump on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms The Second Amendment to our Constitution is clear. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed upon. Period.   The Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that belongs to all law-abiding Americans. The Constitution doesn’t create that right – it ensures that the government can’t take it away. Our Founding Fathers knew, and our Supreme Court has upheld, that the Second Amendment’s purpose is to guarantee our right to defend ourselves and our families. This is about self-defense, plain and simple.   It’s been said that the Second Amendment is America’s first freedom. That’s because the Right to Keep and Bear Arms protects all our other rights. We are the only country in the world that has a Second Amendment. Protecting that freedom is imperative. Here’s how we will do that:   Enforce The Laws On The Books   We need to get serious about prosecuting violent criminals. The Obama administration’s record on that is abysmal. Violent crime in cities like Baltimore, Chicago and many others is out of control. Drug dealers and gang members are given a slap on the wrist and turned loose on the street. This needs to stop.   Several years ago there was a tremendous program in Richmond, Virginia called Project Exile. It said that if a violent felon uses a gun to commit a crime, you will be prosecuted in federal court and go to prison for five years – no parole or early release. Obama’s former Attorney General, Eric Holder, called that a “cookie cutter” program. That’s ridiculous. I call that program a success. Murders committed with guns in Richmond decreased by over 60% when Project Exile was in place – in the first two years of the program alone, 350 armed felons were taken off the street.   Why does that matter to law-abiding gun owners? Because they’re the ones who anti-gun politicians and the media blame when criminals misuse guns. We need to bring back and expand programs like Project Exile and get gang members and drug dealers off the street. When we do, crime will go down and our cities and communities will be safer places to live.   Here’s another important way to fight crime – empower law-abiding gun owners to defend themselves. Law enforcement is great, they do a tremendous job, but they can’t be everywhere all of the time. Our personal protection is ultimately up to us. That’s why I’m a gun owner, that’s why I have a concealed carry permit, and that’s why tens of millions of Americans have concealed carry permits as well. It’s just common sense. To make America great again, we’re going to go after criminals and put the law back on the side of the law-abiding.   Fix Our Broken Mental Health System   Let’s be clear about this. Our mental health system is broken. It needs to be fixed. Too many politicians have ignored this problem for too long.   All of the tragic mass murders that occurred in the past several years have something in common – there were red flags that were ignored. We can’t allow that to continue. We need to expand treatment programs, because most people with mental health problems aren’t violent, they just need help. But for those who are violent, a danger to themselves or others, we need to get them off the street before they can terrorize our communities. This is just common sense.   And why does this matter to law-abiding gun owners? Once again, because they get blamed by anti-gun politicians, gun control groups and the media for the acts of deranged madmen. When one of these tragedies occurs, we can count on two things: one, that opponents of gun rights will immediately exploit it to push their political agenda; and two, that none of their so-called “solutions” would have prevented the tragedy in the first place. They’ve even admitted it.   We need real solutions to address real problems. Not grandstanding or political agendas.   Defend The Rights of Law-Abiding Gun Owners   GUN AND MAGAZINE BANS. Gun and magazine bans are a total failure. That’s been proven every time it’s been tried. Opponents of gun rights try to come up with scary sounding phrases like “assault weapons”, “military-style weapons” and “high capacity magazines” to confuse people. What they’re really talking about are popular semi-automatic rifles and standard magazines that are owned by tens of millions of Americans. Law-abiding people should be allowed to own the firearm of their choice. The government has no business dictating what types of firearms good, honest people are allowed to own.   BACKGROUND CHECKS. There has been a national background check system in place since 1998. Every time a person buys a gun from a federally licensed gun dealer – which is the overwhelming majority of all gun purchases – they go through a federal background check. Study after study has shown that very few criminals are stupid enough to try and pass a background check – they get their guns from friends/family members or by stealing them. So the overwhelming majority of people who go through background checks are law-abiding gun owners. When the system was created, gun owners were promised that it would be instant, accurate and fair. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case today. Too many states are failing to put criminal and mental health records into the system – and it should go without saying that a system’s only going to be as effective as the records that are put into it. What we need to do is fix the system we have and make it work as intended. What we don’t need to do is expand a broken system.   NATIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY. The right of self-defense doesn’t stop at the end of your driveway. That’s why I have a concealed carry permit and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit should be valid in all 50 states. A driver’s license works in every state, so it’s common sense that a concealed carry permit should work in every state. If we can do that for driving – which is a privilege, not a right – then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege.   MILITARY BASES AND RECRUITING CENTERS. Banning our military from carrying firearms on bases and at recruiting centers is ridiculous. We train our military how to safely and responsibly use firearms, but our current policies leave them defenseless. To make America great again, we need a strong military. To have a strong military, we need to allow them to defend themselves.

  3. I recently spent three weeks working in Northern Cal (Redding).  I must say, the people there reminded me of the "gun culture" in this state.  They are some of the most freedom-loving and gun-loving people I have met.  I won't go into details because they're still behind the curtain.  The odd thing is that I was working with government employees.  CalFire, US Forest Service, and retired Forest Service.   There is, unsurprisingly to me now, a very active movement to separate from central and southern Cal and create the State of "Jefferson".  I saw quite a few signs while driving around, especially in the more rural areas.   Very nice country.  Even if it is prone to burning fiercely.  I didn't get much time to see the sights, but the one day I got off, we (I traveled with a buddy from the Smokies) climbed Mt. Lassen.  It's a volcano that last erupted in 1915. (Oops.  Last MAJOR eruption was 1915.  There were smaller ones in the years after.)   I'm in pretty decent shape, but the thin air at 10,000 feet had me sucking wind.  I must have stopped a couple dozen times before the top.  And the grade wasn't even that steep.  Of course my buddy, who hikes in the Smokies for a living, beat me by half an hour.     There are fields full of large rocks, probably hundreds of square miles, from the really big eruption of Tehama (the original mountain), which was tens of thousands of years ago.  From a long distance (Redding), you can see the edges of Tehama, miles away from the present peak.  And millennia later (can't remember the estimated timeline), Lassen Peak poked up through the rubble of the original mountain.     Seriously, driving by these fields full of these enormous rocks, one can imagine that it would have been terrifying to have been within one hundred miles of the explosion, with these rocks falling all around (and maybe ON) you.  But I don't think humans were yet on this continent at the time.   I would have liked to visit the Redwoods, Mt. Shasta, the coast, and a bunch of other places, but we didn't get a chance.     I missed Little Man, and I probably won't travel that far, or for that amount of time, away from him again.  Aside from that, and the flights, it was a pretty good trip.  Made decent money (thanks taxpayers) and got to see a part of the country I've never visited before.

  4. Took a much-needed vacation to Colorado with the family this past week. Spent some time in Colorado Springs and Fort Collins both. Opted *not* to take my Canon 7D DSLR this time, instead just sticking with my iPhone 6. It was an experiment in seeing if I could enjoy myself more by not obsessing over taking "the perfect shot" like some sort of amateur Ansel Adams. I did. These aren't photographic perfection but they are photos of God's perfection. Enjoy. Oh yeah, and here's a flight of seasonal beers with a plate of bier cheese dip and back-wrapped pretzels for you at Fort Collins Brewery. So much 'Merica right here.

  5. Please allow me to introduce myself, I am the Dispatch Manager and Software Integration Specialist for Dauenhauer Plumbing. The largest privately owned plumbing company in the state of Kentucky.   I accepted the position this morning. It is a raise, and a promotion from where I was. It is a more relaxed atmosphere and I will be instrumental in big changes at the company. I will be helping select the new software and phone system, participating in the construction and layout of a new building for my department and then training my department in the best way to do the job. After that I will be on the continuous lookout for new software and technological advances to keep my company on the cutting edge of the plumbing industry as technology leaders.   The statement was "We knew where we needed to be, we had no idea how to get there, then you walked in the door as the solution to everything we needed.

  8. Because most of the race issues have been dealt with. The racists now need something to stay relevant about so they can travel around getting paid. When the Confederate flag is banned everywhere it will be something else. They can also travel from place to place where whitey (or the Police) has killed a minority while committing a crime. They can whine about that and try to get laws passed that will disarm citizens and limit the use of force by cops.

  9. This has come up several times here. It happened to me, I just copied and pasted my response from another thread. .... http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/85044-tics-denial/?hl=denied#entry1231795 The common cause seems to be an arrest that doesn’t show a disposition somewhere. I was arrested for having a gun in my car in Illinois many years ago. The charges were dismissed. I purchased guns in several states over many years before making purchases in Tennessee. Of my first several purchases here I was refused twice. Both were appealed and went through in two days. The first time I thought it was just a mistake; because it was approved so quickly. I called the TBI and the woman told me she couldn’t tell me why I was refused. The second time it happened (not the next purchase) I called the TBI again. The woman told me it was because something Illinois was reporting, but she wasn’t allowed to say what it was on the phone. I told her of the arrest, that it was dismissed, and even if it wasn’t it was a non-disqualifying misdemeanor. She replied with “We don’t know that.” I said, “You don’t know it’s a misdemeanor?” she said “No, we know it’s a misdemeanor, but it could be a felony in Tennessee”. She said that when checking on the appeal they found I was okay. She couldn’t tell me why it went through okay on other purchases. My daughter is a Probation Officer in Illinois and her boyfriend was an Illinois State Trooper. He checked and said Illinois didn’t report anything to them other than a speeding ticket. That led to think it was the FBI database. They wanted $25 for a background check. It was $30 for a C&R license and I knew it would show up there if there was a problem. It did. The BATF sent me a letter I needed documentation on the disposition of the charge before they could proceed. I talked to the person handling it and he said the gun charge was not reported by Illinois, but was showing up in the FBI check with no disposition. My daughter went to the Circuit Clerks office to get the documentation. The woman gave it to her and gave her a second copy; she said it has happened to her husband a couple of time and might happen again. She said she would resubmit the disposition to the Feds and that may fix the problem. It seems to have fixed the problem. She did that, and I submitted it to the Feds and got my C&R; no problems since.

  11. Well, I decided to get it. Not exactly what I was looking for, as I wanted one that was not so nice that I'd have reservations of hunting with it. However, I just thought it was too pretty and priced too well not to get it. It's the Cowboy Limited version in 44 mag. It has the cross bolt safety, but is still a "JM" gun built in North Haven. It came with an assortment of ammo too. Obligatory porn... 19. I'd suggest doing a Nashville-area get together at Charlie Haffner's range some Saturday or Sunday soon.  That way folks can get some shooting in as well as socializing.   Or if you guys want, I can reach out to the local shops with indoor ranges and see if one of them would do a private early-opening for coffee and donuts one morning before their range opens, so that folks could chit chat and then go shoot.   *shrug*

  21. A friend in OK sent me his old walnut finger groove 10/22 stock that had fallen off the wall hooks. Dented and cracked on both sides of the wrist through the receiver section. After steaming and ironing 95+% of the dents out and sanding the hairs off caused by ironing I slightly pried the cracks apart. You can do this one handed if you have some wooden dowels inserted into holes on your bench to slide the stock into and then using one hand pry the stock apart. I would try this even if the crack is only on one side just to make sure it wasn't clear through. But if on one side maybe this will help get the crack opened up a little to let the glue run into it. I thought at first the stock's crack was only on one side, but was on both. I got some good wood glue and thinned it out with water. Using a needle applicator I let the glue run down and into the cracks as far as I dared pry them apart. I wiped up any seeping glue with a damp cloth. Wrapped the receiver in saran wrap and took cut strips of bicycle inner tube and tied that thing up and left it for a week. How long is long enough for the glue? I don't know but was not in a hurry. Now I have sealed the stock and will begin the Tru Oil treatment today.
    1 point
  22. After thinking about it more, I would go the wood glue route. I think you can force enough down in there. The benefit with wood glue is that you can easily wipe off the excess. With epoxy or CYA, you may blimish the exterior of the stock around the crack if you get any on it. Plus, that wood glue will still be plenty strong when it dries

  25. Hot stuff is basically branded CA aka super glue. Nothing wrong with that and hot stuff is one of the few people who sell bottles big enough to appeal to the hobbyist.    Can we get a pic? It would help to see the crack. Can it be spread by way of clamping the stock with something like a towel underneath the crack and applying another clamp on the other end? whichever way you go make sure and clean and dry the area well ahead of time. For a buck or two at most any craft store you can get a mini suction cup which is useful for pushing wood glue into thin cracks. Works like a plunger and really drives it in there.

  28. Bingo. Dudes paying $3k for boutique ARs don't want to admit that a $400 PSA kit is functionally identical. Same thing in any hobby... you can find a way to spend thousands of dollars on something if you want, but usually there's an option with same functions for 20% of the cost, just without the panache. I've had a few PTAC kits and all have been 100% for me, both with cheap steal and fancy ammo.

It’s a little taller and longer, but its thinner and cost much less. There is a lot going on with micro guns, you aren't limited to .380 anymore.

  32. company policy.   What they do for concealed carry: nothing, you can have it as-is.  But if you are going to take it out and wave it around inside the store, they go into full paranoid mode because someone, at some point, fired their "unloaded" gun in a store or at a gun show etc.   Its overkill, but I have experienced the same at several stores.  Sportsman's warehouse has you unload it while its muzzle is stuck into some weird "bullet catching device".  Academy walks it back for you.   Etc.   Its just legal safety... if you shoot someone while waving your carry piece around checking out holsters,  the store is liable if they don't have a "don't do that" policy on the books.   IMHO the shooter should pay the store for damages and any victims and everything else when this happens, but somehow the store is considered at fault with our broken legal system.   Buying a gun is usually not as weird as pulling one out in-store for service/fitting/etc.
