A Very Serious Prayer Request I have a prayer request for all my friends. We all know what can come from prayer. In this case, there’s a lady I've known all my life. Today, she's very sick and on some days it appears she is dying. On top of that, she's being abused by those she has given everything to all her life. Lies about her abound, and seem to come from all sides. Just breaks my heart. Seems there's nothing I can do alone. But maybe, if we join in and lift her up to God and ask for His help, she can begin to recover. She's well over 200 years old, but way too young to die. Her name is America ... and I love her. Please Help US God!!9 points

Empires never last... For those who are the praying type, I might add the following comments. While I think that it's appropriate to pray for our country and leaders - it needs to be within context. The kingdom that God is concerned with was heralded about 1750 years before our Thomas Jefferson penned our declaration on behalf of the founding fathers. One kingdom will last - and all others will eventually fail. What does it mean for us then for the Kingdom of God to be here and now? And, how does that affect our citizenship and our lives here in the United States (or any other country for that matter)? I expect the the good Lord doesn't much care if Hillary wins. As for most of the GOP field, I sure wouldn't look to them as some sort of proverbial savior. As I read it, the Gospel is offensive on who it lets in - not who it keeps out. How does that sync with most of the rhetoric you're hearing right now?6 points

At no point in this human experiment have a percentage of the population learned to behave. For every few people who choose to live their lives well and peaceful, there is someone looking to exploit those people and cause them harm. Whether it is some personal ideology they use to justify their actions or sociopaths who need no such justification, these people will remain from now until the end of human existence. Live peaceful; pass good values on to your children; remain vigilant. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

Dude, no joke, I seriously did know what this was before l clicked to open it. The title is what gave it away as I saw it at the top of General Chat last night, and it did so because I've seen it blasted around for about three years. The words "Very Serious" were the tip off. If someone comes on here and asks for a prayer request for a family member, a friend, or even someone or something they heard about on the news, I stay out of that and let those who want to offer a prayer do so. That's not something I feel is my place to intrude upon ...but I don't hold chain mail to that standard.4 points

The fix is not quick or simple. Until the rule of law is reestablished in this country, until absolutes are adopted again - absolutes like right and wrong, good and bad, moral and immoral, proper and improper, decent and indecent, until we say that morals, principles, ethics, and standards aren't situational and conditional after all, when we can once again say that we are all accountable to God and our fellow man for our conduct, and that such accountability is the bedrock of our society, this will not stop. It has taken us fifty years to get in this condition, there is no express lane out of it.4 points

Spent some time in the forge yesterday. Time for blacksmith work is short, I work 6 and 7 12's at an automotive factory now, so I rarely have days off. But when I do, I like to do unique stuff. This is a Tanto utility blade, 6" blade, 11" overall, and a full tang, long clip fighter. 10 1/8", 15.5" overall, made from a hoof rasp. Both are forge tempered for strength, home logged, milled and cut oak handles. Sent from the backwoods3 points

The ammonia probably does help with some of the copper fouling, but it's the water that dilutes and washes out the salts. Hot water works well, but any water down a warm barrel will neutralize the salts, follow with an oiled patch and you're good to go. Otherwise cleaning is done like any modern weapon, just be aware that a lot of the crown and rifling wear of milsurps was caused by over vigorous cleaning procedures as much as battle usage. The typical 2 compartment cleaning bottle issued with wartime 91/30's originally contained water in one compartment, oil in the other.3 points

Made from 3/16' thick 1095 carbon steel and professionally heat treated to RC 59-60. It has coyote brown sculpted G10 scales with black G10 liners. The hexagon pattern is permanently etched into the blade. The recurved blade is 6" long and the OAL is about 12". It has a nice sized lanyard hole and glass breaker. It comes with a retro black leather sheath with snap around the handle. It's tough....durable and can be yours in you wish. If you're interested just PM me2 points

First game tomorrow night. Between the Patriots and Steelers, plenty of fantasy starters making their season start in it. Having my friend Alex take over the last team, now known as the "Diaz Holes." Alex is actually the guy who got me into fantasy football once upon a time. He won't be on here since he lives in Florida, but feel free to talk smack on the message boards. I made a commish call and gave him #1 priority on the waiver wire for taking on an auto drafted team he had no preferences for, and came out needing some work (especially at TE...geez), I'm thinking of doing so after again after week 1, but that would be it. Let me know if anyone has any objections to that. I'll post on the league board about the ways to get me the league dues in a few days.2 points

No matter what happens, either short term or long term, the United States will NEVER be what it once was. All civilizations fail at some point and ours is no different. What is different is how long it takes to meet our demise. Could be another hundred years or more but it could also fail in the next few years, which is what I am planning for. If I am wrong then my supplies will be there for my heirs. And when we do fail I hope it brings us all together but I suspect it will end with Americans fighting, and killing, each other making us ripe for the picking by our biggest threat to our nation's survival. The biggest threat to our way of life in not the liberal agenda, gun control or an out of control government. It is the slow creeping of those who are Muslim and follow Islam. All you have to do to see this is look at everything going on across Europe by these people. They ROUTINELY assault, rape and kill non Muslims for wandering into the areas those Muslims have have declared as their own. They then use Sharia as justification for it an riot if they are not allowed to apply Sharia to non Muslims. They have been slowly conditioning us into tolerating if by making small demands like refusing to check customers out if they are buying something the Muslim does not believe in. And what do we do? Accommodate them so they can continue to make more and more demands. I urge everyone to jump on YouTube and look at all that this "religion of peace" is doing to the citizens of countries they were allowed to enter. We, for the good of our children, must resist those who say we must tolerate them. I will NEVER tolerate any demands made on behalf of any Muslim, even moderates.2 points

Considerations on weapons retention and fighting in a clinch are what brought me to carrying a small fixed blade towards my centerline. OhShoot offered some sound suggestions imho. I currently carry one of the TDI knives in an NSR Tactical horizontal sheath. It's easily accessible by either hand and very easy to conceal underneath any untucked shirt. John Benner at TDI designed this knife specifically for use in a weapons retention role. Our little "group" back down south actually had the opportunity to field test the prototype back in '04. http://nsrtactical.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=43 I had a patient back in New Orleans (East) that was worked over by a push dagger. They are damn devastating, especially in a close-in fight. The guy didn't even realize at first he was being stabbed...he just thought he was being punched. (This seemed to be quite common in a lot of the folks I gave care to fwiw). And a small short bladed knife will penetrate much deeper than their blade length due to the elasticity and compressibility of human flesh...just things to consider. JAB, The SPEW looks intriguing. And for $21.88 on Amazon I might just have to pick one up. http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-River-Knife-Tool-2388/dp/B006SK0SP82 points

My wife KNOWS I won't answer texts during my commute home, but that never stopped her from texting me to ask me to stop on the way home for something. I'd just walk in the door and say she should have called me instead (bluetooth/hands-free). We were driving somewhere the other day and she heard my truck read me a text message and got royally P'd off. Now I don't have an excuse to make her go buy her own damn tampons or whatever.2 points

Yeah right! I was followed the other day by a Sparta K-9 officer and looked over as he started to pass me and he was texting as he was driving. But then he is above the law!!!!!2 points

Their advanced engineering department has created a $99 stylus before anyone else did! And to think these other companies have been giving them away for 20 years now for free. As much as I like my Mac, this company is just really turning into a laughing stock with all of the outdated capacity of the hardware they're releasing, and stupid things like the <queue the heavenly music> Apple Pencil1 point

I'm kind of excited about the new iPad Pro. For my particular use case, it may fill a need that a laptop cannot. And, that's kind of interesting when you think about Apple and their continued growth. To some, they're victims of their own success. How do you continue to innovate with these revolutionary devices - of which I'd really argue they haven't done since the iPhone. What they are executing on well is fitting devices to particular niches. The MacBook may not appeal at all to me writing code, running a couple different VMs or doing forensic work. But to my wife who needs none of that, it's about perfect. So long as they keep growing incrementally, they'll be fine. I think the biggest announcement today was them taking control of phone payment plans - basically their selling you a phone at a monthly rate with AppleCare and a new phone every year. That's huge. And I'm sure all of the carriers were calling Apple bad names today.1 point

A guy was getting ready to tee off on the first hole when a second golfer approached and asked if he could join him. The first said that he usually played alone, but agreed to the twosome. They were even after the first few holes. The second guy said, "We're about evenly matched, how about playing for five bucks a hole?" The first guy said that he wasn't much for betting, but agreed to the terms. The second guy won the remaining sixteen holes with ease. As they were walking off number eighteen, the second guy was busy counting his $80.00. He confessed that he was the pro at a neighboring course and liked to pick on suckers. The first fellow revealed that he was the Parish Priest. The pro was flustered and apologetic, offering to return the money. The Priest said, "You won fair and square and I was foolish to bet with you. You keep your winnings." The pro said, "Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?" The Priest said, "Well, you could come to Mass on Sunday and make a donation. And, if you want to bring your mother and father along, I'll marry them."1 point

I have done it as well and I just acted like I was buying a pack of crackers, with CONFIDENCE. But I will tell you how to fix that. Next time she asks you to buy some then buy the super, duper, extra absorbency. She will NEVER ask you again. Might be a little rough for a few days until she doesn't need them anymore but in the end it will be worth it.1 point

Thanks to Luke E., for taking me on a dove shoot Sunday afternoon. We hit some and missed some, but had a great time. I want everyone to know that Luke E. is a good and kind man. He went out of his way to make sure I got to go dove hunting, put me on the best shooting spot, deflected birds my way, and gave me a box of hard to find rifle ammo. It was like Christmas in September! I've got to stop here and add that the thing that makes all of this special to me, is the big difference in our age groups. Luke is much younger than me, but made sure I had an enjoyable time and wouldn't take any pay for the ammo. He could have just gone hunting with friends in his own age group, but invited me. Being a city dweller, but having been raised on a farm, I miss taking my gun and going hunting in the field or woods. I also have to mention that the first we met, he gave me a couple of Weaver scope bases for a Ruger 1022... and wouldn't take any pay for them either! Luke puts others before himself, and that is refreshing, given the selfish...all for/about me... world we live in these days. Luke, thank you for your kindness to an old codger that misses more dove than he hits...but I absolutely enjoyed the hunt and comradery. Thank you for a fun hunt and the ammo.1 point

I didn't mention the SL because of the cost but if you want to be able to shoot both it may make it worthwhile. Understand they will sometimes require a little fitting as well. If I recall the factory recoil spring is probably the same for 21 vs 20, but for Nuclear 10mm loads you will need a heavier recoil spring. If you wanted to change the extractor it may increase reliability but it is not often needed.1 point

For some reason - I think it has to do with the deep finger grooves not being placed/spaced right for my fingers - the regular line of CRKT Minimalist knives feel awkward in my hand and I don't really feel like I get a secure, solid grip on them. I find that I get a much more solid grip on the Cold Steel Mini-Tac knives (I have their Skinner and Beavertail versions.) That said, I do like the way the CRKT Minimalist S.P.E.W. (Small Pocket Everyday Wharncliffe) feels in my hand. The lack of finger grooves, in this case, actually seems to improve my abiity to grip it. I think it looks pretty nice, too - especially the handles. I am not the world's biggest fan of the modern, fighting style interpretation of the Wharncliffe blade but I do like this one and have thought about getting a CRKT Dragon, as well. The S.P,E.W. comes with a molded sheath that can be set up for neck wear (with the included cord) or used with a belt clip (also included.) One thing I like about the CRKT Minimalist knives is that the knives/sheaths generally have a much smaller 'footprint' than the Cold Steel Mini-Tacs even thought the blade sizes are generally similar. If CRKT would offer the rest of their Minimalist line with grips more like those on the S.P.E.W. then I'd likely buy a couple of them.1 point

I would treat it like a DUI, especially if there was an accident. More people are getting injured from distracted driving, such as texting, than from drunk driving accidents so it should be treated the same. The choice to do it is no different than the choice to drink. The people they hurt are no less hurt because the other driver was texting and not driving drunk. So it should carry similar penalties. I personally believe the DUI sentencing is often to lenient, especially subsequent offenses.1 point
