I got my trust 6 months ago, I have discovered that the only limitation I have with building Form 1 firearms is my wife. So far I have 2 approved, an 11.5in SBR and a 5.56 suppressor. Now that I have deployed and the wife can't complain to me in person I've submitted 2 more SBR's and prepping for 2 more cans. Going to do a 5.5in 9mm PDW and another 5.56 of some variety. Not sure just yet. Now all I need to do is find someone with a lathe, that accepts beer as payment, to do 20 minutes of machine work when I get home. Anyone else have the Form 1 bug?2 points

Made from 3/16' thick 1095 carbon steel and professionally heat treated to RC 59-60. It has coyote brown sculpted G10 scales with black G10 liners. The hexagon pattern is permanently etched into the blade. The recurved blade is 6" long and the OAL is about 12". It has a nice sized lanyard hole and glass breaker. It comes with a retro black leather sheath with snap around the handle. It's tough....durable and can be yours in you wish. If you're interested just PM me2 points

You guys are bad influences. It's like having a devil on each shoulder... :P I wanted to get the AXTS Raptor Ambidextrous Charging Handle at the same time and save on shipping costs (I do that often with gun parts buys), but Rainer is sold out of those...I'll squat for a few days and see if they get it back in stock anytime soon.2 points

Thanks to Luke E., for taking me on a dove shoot Sunday afternoon. We hit some and missed some, but had a great time. I want everyone to know that Luke E. is a good and kind man. He went out of his way to make sure I got to go dove hunting, put me on the best shooting spot, deflected birds my way, and gave me a box of hard to find rifle ammo. It was like Christmas in September! I've got to stop here and add that the thing that makes all of this special to me, is the big difference in our age groups. Luke is much younger than me, but made sure I had an enjoyable time and wouldn't take any pay for the ammo. He could have just gone hunting with friends in his own age group, but invited me. Being a city dweller, but having been raised on a farm, I miss taking my gun and going hunting in the field or woods. I also have to mention that the first we met, he gave me a couple of Weaver scope bases for a Ruger 1022... and wouldn't take any pay for them either! Luke puts others before himself, and that is refreshing, given the selfish...all for/about me... world we live in these days. Luke, thank you for your kindness to an old codger that misses more dove than he hits...but I absolutely enjoyed the hunt and comradery. Thank you for a fun hunt and the ammo.2 points

I've never heard of ANY TN FFL that charges a transfer fee for selling a gun from his own stock, even if he has to order it for the customer. None. Zero. - OS2 points

Another known fact if it isn't a Glock it just wont work, it will jam all the time and just break after 50 rounds. We like our gun myths here. Now if you ever buy a Ruger revolver you can reload your own ammo with C-4, it will handle it.2 points

Bingo, soaked in PB Blaster overnight. Used a set of easy-outs. Used the smallest first and it didn't work, went up a size and it came right out. Thanks for all the tips.2 points

As I've mentioned in some other posts I've recently gotten a boat and started fishing OldHickory lake again. Last time that I actively fished the lake on a regular basis was around 2002 or 2003. I'll fish for anything, I'm eventually wanting to get after some rockfish but I need some bigger gear first. For now I'm fishing for bluegill, catfish, bass, and I troll for stripe when the family is out with me because they just want to ride around and don't like it when I stop and fish. So, I've made the following observations now as opposed to 12-13 years ago. 1) I'm catching more bass and they are bigger! I credit this to the 15" minimum limit and the 5 fish creel limit put into place several years ago. It looks as if it has finally had enough time to make a difference. I haven't gotten to do as much bass fishing as I would like but I'd say my average bass is around a pound while 12 years ago the average was maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound. 2) I'm catching more catfish. Not necessarily bigger catfish but more smaller ones and that's fine because I prefer to eat the ones under about 3 pounds the most. 3) This one puzzles me but in the panfish arena I'm only catching very small fish for the most part. It's rare that I catch one that is big enough to clean. Years ago I separated them as I caught them by cleaning size and catfish bait size. There were always plenty that were big enough to clean but not anymore. I caught about 60 Friday evening and 3 or 4 were big enough to clean. Maybe that's why the bass are bigger and there are more of them? If that's so why are the smaller panfish plentiful? 4) The number of gar has drastically increased. It used to be rare to see one now I can't hardly fish a bank without seeing one. 5) I see a lot of really big fish jumping in the middle of the lake, I haven't figured out what they are but I'm talking at the very least 20 pound plus fish. I haven't tied into any of these while trolling, I've also thrown Rapalas out in the early mornings but have yet to hook into one of these huge fish. 6) I've caught several large skipjacks while trolling like 2+ feet long and probably 4-5 pounds. Never really remember catching them before on that body of water. I never thought about the lake being any different to fish than it used to be but there certainly are some changes.1 point

After six months of chemo I am apparently cancer free (the same lymph nodes that have been showing up all along are still showing up but have neither grown nor shrank so have been relegated to 'keep an eye on them' status.) So, back on August 20 I went in for surgery to reverse the colostomy that I have had since having a blockage - a cancerous tumor - removed from my colon late in October of 2014. Also on the schedule was having the venus port (which was used to administer my chemo) removed. As an extra, added bonus the surgeon said he could go ahead and remove my gall bladder while he was at it. My gall bladder had acted up and I even had one pretty severe attack that lasted for a few days right before I started chemo but it wasn't removed at the time because that would have further postponed starting chemo. After I awoke in recovery and as I was being wheeled out to go to a room (in ICU), I noticed that my surgeon was making a phone call at the recovery room desk. It must have been to the other partner in his practice or at least to one of his colleagues since I heard him saying, "You just missed the worst gall bladder I have ever seen," as I was rolled past the desk. He later told me the same thing and said that he actually wouldn't doubt that it was the worst gall bladder anyone had ever seen. The anesthesiologist said it was certainly the worst one he had ever seen, as well. I guess you could say that I had a 'zombie' gall bladder because it was dead. In fact, it was rotten and still rotting - literally. It was gangrenous and had rotted to the point that it had holes all the way through it in places. The vessels and so on serving it were dead and rotten, as well. So there is the fourth thing that has tried to kill me in the last dozen or so years. The surgeon had planned to do everything in my abdomen via laparoscopic procedures. He was actually able to remove my gall bladder that way - although it apparently took two hours or more since it was so rotten that it came out in pieces (the surgeon said that such a procedure normally takes a half hour or so under normal conditions.) When it came time to reverse the colostomy, though, he ended up having to open me up, again. My colon had gotten twisted and there were several adhesions that had to be separated. He had planned on using some kind of stapling device to reconnect my colon but ended up having to stitch it back together by hand, instead. Removing the port must have been pretty straightforward because he barely even mentioned that afterward. I didn't even have stitches where it was removed - the surgeon just 'super glued' that incision closed. In the pre-surgery consultation the surgeon indicated that he expected the whole shebang to take three or four hours, tops. In all, I was in surgery for roughly ten hours. I was in the hospital until the 25th. I followed up with the surgeon on September 1 and one of his nurses removed the staples from my various incisions (well, most of them - seems she missed one that was actually in my navel and I pulled it out, myself, last Friday.) I still have steri-strips over the incisions and there is a small but deep place where the colostomy was closed that is still open and has to be packed with a strip of packing gauze which needs to be changed daily. I returned to work today (yeah, on Labor Day.) I don't necessarily feel like being here and could probably have used another few days or even another week to recuperate but between the surgeries and so on last October and all the time it took to recuperate from those and this recent surgery and time off my FMLA leave has run out so I had to come back whether I was ready or not. Mine is pretty much a desk job so at least I can manage, I guess. And that is my latest health saga.1 point

Bzzt. Stock has no significance. Even a completely finished virgin lower with stock attached is fine for a pistol build. And is transferred as "other firearm" via FFL. No receiver (except NFA) can be anything other than a GSA "firearm" until barrel or barrel and stock is attached. In other words, this: is perfectly fine to make a pistol from, as long as it wasn't first built as a rifle. Remove stock, put upper on, you have a legal pistol. And yes, the carbine buffer tube left on it is also legit for a pistol. - OS1 point

So my wife went to the post office. And as she was walking in she heard a kitten screaming. She mentioned it and a mail worker said it was in her husbands truck somewhere under the hood. Apparently the kitten has been under the hood for two days as he went to work. They acted like the kitten would eventfully die and quit screaming. Well not with my wife around she made them pop the hood so she could find the kitten. She found it and brought it home. Not sure if we have a new family member yet but we will make sure it never suffers again. How the hell can ANYONE drive around for two days listening to a 2-3 week old kitten screaming? Takes a special kind of sicko to do that. It is safe, sound and in loving arms now.1 point

Well I guess I'm eating crow on this one. I seemed to recall that being standard practice, and I know I've paid both in the past for in-stock items. However, after I did some checking with other dealers in and out of TN they all stated that was, in fact, NOT standard. I'm home based, I don't keep stock, and have only done internet transfers thus far...looks like I'm the ass on this conversation and I learned a little something new today business-wise.1 point

Haven't watched much tennis over the last 20 years, but something special this evening in the US Open. Serena Williams is just three matches away from winning a calendar grand slam (all four majors in same calendar year) -- and dig this, her quarterfinal match tonight is with her sister, Venus! Only 5 other players have done it, 2 men and 3 women, and the most recent was Steffi Graf way back in 1987. Anyway, 7:00 on ESPN, for anyone else who's interested. - OS1 point

You obviously speak from experience. What FFL charges transfer fees for in stock guns? I need to keep an eye out for his "Going out of business" sale. BTW, I have never heard of a dealer charging a "transfer" fee on an in stock gun. It is your prerogative to do what you want but I can assure you that most will not agree to pay a "transfer" fee on in stock guns. That is just an extra "cost" that WILL drive customers away. If you want to get extra money for handling the gun then increase the price of the gun instead of charging the customer for some "hidden" fee once they get to your store. I always hated businesses that try to charge some sort of fee for something that should be free or at least rolled into the price. By having all these other fees you are fooling customers into thinking you have a price that is lower than it really is and that is deceptive.1 point

I recently went looking for an inexpensive but well made folding knife to stuff in my tactical rifle cases, bug out bags, glove boxes, etc., and landed on the Coast DX340 Double Lock Folding Knife. It sells all over the internet for $17 or more, but Home Depot Online sells them for only $7 each. From all of the reviews I've seen and the three I already own, I think it's a darn good buy. Here is the Home Depot ad and a very authoritative and complete YouTube review. I've ordered five more of them. (they're not sold in the stores, only online.) Just picked up this sexy thing in a trade. Its pretty beat up but looks damn good to me. 1962 Colt Python with the original box and test target!! I think the plating is a bad refinish. The box claims that this one was born blue and I tend to agree. Called Colt and they couldn't tell me the original finish so I had to pay $100 for them to dig through the archives. In 100 days I should know then I can send it to Colt for them to restore to factory. The turnaround for that is around 9 months. So a year from now I should be getting a pristine python......hopefully they'll still be in business. Took it out last weekend and shot the hell out of it. And it shoots like a dream. Even convinced my son to take a turn after I mentioned the Walking Dead....go figure1 point

Thanks to all for the kind words and well wishes. They are appreciated. My dad was probably the toughest individual I have ever known. He survived several things in his life, any one of which would probably have been the end of a lot of folks. It was stomach cancer that got him in the end - but even then he lived for 7 1/2 years after his first surgery despite the doctors saying he probably had two years or so and despite having a heart attack in the midst of that 7 1/2 years. I have said that he almost had to die of cancer because nothing else could kill him. My ex-wife (who is still one of my best friends) has been there through the first three things that tried to kill me in the last dozen years or so. When I told her about the gall bladder thing being number 4 she just shook her head and said, "You really are your father's son." That is one of the best compliments anyone has ever given me.1 point

great stuff! i worked w gordon getting my 3 gun rifle together which was at 5 lbs on the first lap we used a upoer free of the fa and dust cover in addition to a clark handguard to save weight. in addition to a btm adjustable gas block the gun worked like a champ. 4 lbs will be cool to see for sure, gordons buffers work great, so much better than the jp or taccom we experimented with. its amazing at what adds weight and what can save weight at the end of the day, cant wait to see the end result!!! My wife and me went to gatlinburg for our 18th wedding anniversary Saturday. We decided to walk up to Clingman's Dome. It was a real thing for my wife since she had her knee rebuilt two years ago. She had to take a few rest's along the way but it was worth it. I was taking her picture and we spotted a rainbow coming up through the clouds that were below us. It was really neat. It was more spectacular in person and the colors of the rainbow were brighter. My cell phone kinda dulled the colors on here but you get the idea. I just thought I'd share this picture. I tried to keep her face out of most of the picture cause she would kick my butt if she knew I put her face up here. Oh and I got to see Bud's Gun Shop and the new Glock Blue colored frames. Those were neat. 1 point

Hmm, I've been shooting a lot of Aguila hyper velocity .22 LR lately through my Ruger Mark II and I didnt notice a smell at all. In all fairness I was at an outdoor range AND I was too busy being amazed at the group sizes/accuracy they produced over the cheap bulk stuff that I usually shoot. :D1 point

Speaking of current manufacture 7.62x39 and .223. Couldn't tell ya from which factories exactly, or whether they all are the same, but a smoke whiff of some is sort of half sweet half rotten egg. Or something. Seems more than just one brand though. - OS1 point

Don't rule out a semi-auto .22LR rifle. My wife is early 50's, but with arthritis and other health problems. Zero recoil, easy to operate, and less likely to cause hearing damage. A Marlin 60 w/ 15 rounds of Mini-Mag HP stands in the corner.1 point

If buying from a FFL in a store, show ID to confirm TN residency, fill out federal form 4473, pay an extra 10 clams for the background check which usually takes 10 min or less, and unless you have a disqualifying event on your record, walk out of store with gun. If buying from an individual, hand him the money and leave with gun. (seller might ask you to see TN driver's license, some won't -- some may ask you if you are legally able to own firearms, some won't - some may even want you to sign bill of sale, most won't). And don't vote for any Dems, locally or federally and don't ever tell anyone how they do things in NY. ;) - OS1 point

Sometimes a nuisance feral cat or dog has to be destroyed but no cat or dog should be subjected to cruel and inhumane neglect or treatment. I know a lot of people who wouldn't think twice about killing a stray cat on their property. I'm not one of them. I believe in responsible pet ownership and having my pets neutered or spayed. I also believe a domestic cat kept indoors will have a longer, healthier life than an outdoor or indoor/outdoor cat.1 point
-
Well, 35-20 at the half ain't exactly "destruction". I'm sure final score will be more lopsided, but that will be more due to overall stamina by depth of talent of a juggernaut program. Tells me this season will be no cakewalk for the Voles. - OS edit: oopsie, 35-27 in the 3rd. Hmmm... Maybe they should have scheduled UT Nooga instead. ;)1 point

The biggest issue I have was they were laughing about the whole thing acting like they were powerless to do anything. I have ZERO issue with killing something that needs to be killed be it for food, survival or even as a trophy, so long as it is done humanely. You don't let any animal suffer a slow miserable death. I am honestly surprised it survived a few hours in the heat under the hood. It is a more alert and active now. Believe it is a boy and is eating well. He went from crazy feral to purring once he got access to food and water. I will post pictures in a minute, it is the cutest little thing.1 point

Because humans can be aholes. I haven't met too many animals that were aholes for the sake of it, so I go out of my way to be respectful of non-human life. Humans get the benefit of the doubt from me as well, unless ahole tendencies abound, like letting a defenseless animal die a slow, torturous death, when it would take less than a minute to intervene. I'd value the life of that kitten over that human any day of the week, and I'm not a cat person. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Before you buy your wife a revolver, go rent some and let her try them out. A little airweight pistol is not necessarily for the faint of heart. My S&W Airweight Model 38 is a handful. After shooting a box of 50 .38spl LRN, you feel it. If she can handle a Model 38, though, I recommend them, though! They are snag free but can still be be cocked.1 point

Have you looked at this? https://www.vltor.com/shop/a5-system/pistol-a5-the-vltor-a5-pistol-kit/ When I got my 16, I had nothing but troubles with sub 11.5" uppers with carbine, H, H1,H2, H3 buffers, I switched to the V5 set up and all the short stroking and bolt bounce issues disappeared and it doesn't matter what length of upper is used. A 7.5" upper is uncomfortable up around your face... 1 point

Don't be discouraged having problems shooting a Glock, its the trigger and the grip angle combination. What your going to have to do is teach yourself how to shoot with a Glock which is doable. Move in to the five yard range and shoot then work your way back to the fifteen yard range. Pay attention to each shots placement until you get well centered groups then speed things up. What your probably going to find is you'll use a different finger pad placement and trigger stroke.1 point
