  1.  Albert Einstein once said - "The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has limits." Leave it up to Hollywood to prove him right.

  2. I think a bigger problem that we have in America than the number of Muslims among us is people that want to infringe on the rights of others because they don't agree with something.  Replace the word "Muslim" in this thread with "gun owner" and everyone here would be outraged.  Making an attempt to ban an entire religion, which I assume is the premise of this thread, because of the acts of a few is no different than attempting to ban the private ownership of firearms because of the acts of a few.  This is simple hypocrisy, you can't infringe the rights of others and not expect your own to be infringed as well.

  5. Here are some pictures of what is in my "get home" bag. The first column has the nitrile gloves at the top goes into the small, easy access pocket on the outside at the top. It has very, very basic first aid items like veterinary wrap, band aids, feminine products, suture kits and finally a broken shell extractor. Column two are the two spare steel magazines which go into the bigger outside pocket on the front. Column three is my blow out kit that will go on my belt if I think I might need it. But when not in use it is in the first big compartment. And under the blow out kit is my "toolkit". Column four is the continuation of column three and another set of nitrile gloves, hearing protection, a Bic brand fire starter :), fingernail clippers and some survival cards. Columns three and four fit into the first big compartment. Column 5 is what goes into the final compartment. More gloves, another tourniquet, more first aid items, spare battery, ink pens, electrical tape and range finder. I did not realize my binoculars were not there until after I took the pictures. I also carry Orajel for a few reasons, it is obviously for any type of tooth injury but it also works on other minor wounds as well that might be a little painful. If I have a deep splinter I generally open it up a little then pack it with Orajel before trying to remove it. Works great on blisters as well. The Lifestraw, fire starter along with the baklava are all stored in the compartment for hydration systems at the very back. The flashlight and knife are on the outside. These are in addition to the other ones I generally carry. I also have a machete I carry as well but it was accidentally left in the truck. This is my blowout kit. It has most things you would need to stabilize all but the more serious wounds. It also has another tourniquet. This is my "tool kit". It has most things I would need to do basic stuff with. In the globes are patches and panty hose. In the upper bag are rubber bands. There is another pen and it is wrapped with duct tape. A Bear brand fire starter. Nut drivers, screwdriver along with bits. 550 cord, AK cleaning kit along with brush, home made Boresnake and a pair of pliers along with an adjustable wrench. And all of that fits nicely into the bag for it. This is an escape card. It has the tools to shim handcuffs, cut tape as well as pick locks. But on top of that everyone should have a handcuff key. This is a survival card. It has fish hooks, a saw, needles, snare locks or spoons for lures, pointed and blunt arrow heads as well as a gig. They are designed to be broken out of the card and used. These are the size of a credit card and are made out of stainless steel. And the whole pack weighs less than 12 pounds. I will say there are a few more things that did not make it into the picture. Heavy duty, as in contractor, trash bags. They can be used for so many things. They can keep your stuff dry or it can collect water. Slit the bottom and the sides and it becomes a poncho. Slide your feet into it when in a sleeping bag and it will keep you so much warmer. You could take two and split them and tape them together to make a shelter. Something else that will probably make it into the bag as well is some short range two way radios. I also have a solar powered cell phone charger that is in the bag as well. And I still have plenty of room for a jacket, poncho or liner or something else to keep me warm at night. And remember this is not a survival bag but a bag to get me home which will almost always be less than 25 miles. So, realistically, lack of food or water should not be an issue. Shelter and staying away from the bad guys is. And this bag is the year around bag, if we need more items because of the weather or some other reason it will get tossed in the vehicle. This is what stays by my side every day, all day. That is an Romanian Draco with a 7.5" barrel. I drilled and tapped the rear trunion for a Stormwerks AR15 style hinge to mount the KAK tube for the Shockwave "brace". The gas system has been tuned to reduce felt recoil and the trigger has been reworked resulting in a two stage trigger that breaks at a crisp 3.5 pounds. The gun itself weighs 7 pounds 13 ounces WITH the 30 round magazine and sling. That is a chopped down Saiga rifle forearm with a sling swivel holding it in place. US Palm grip with a gutted piece of 550 cord between it and the receiver to act as a ambidextrous sling point. The only thing left to do now is open up the rear sight once I get to the range. It is zeroed at 25 yards but I want to confirm at 100 or 200 yards. And the best part is this is a pistol so I can LEGALLY carry it anywhere a HCP holder can carry a pistol. Heck, I could sling it across my back and legally walk around but I would never, ever do that. Just saying that this is just as legal to carry as any other "pistol". I welcome any and all questions or comments.

  6. So my dad calls me yesterday and says "I'm going to drop something by your house" and stops by while I'm at work and leaves this with the wife for me: New in the box Weatherby Mark V he bought back in the 80's. Never fired. He's had some significant health setbacks this past year, so he's thinking about things like this more now. I put it in the back of the safe, so maybe one day one of my sons will get it... never fired... in it's original box....... MAYBE! =) QUESTION THOUGH: I've never had anything this pretty before, do you guys think a silicone gun sock will hurt the finish? I put it in one so that it maybe doesn't get bumped in the safe.... it's tight in there.

  22.   I won't answer anything technical because I just started on the same press last night (congrats by the way). But, I had the same thing and mostly from brass that had been crimped and it was shaving a tiny piece off as I press in the new primer. I could feel that it was a little bit tighter when pressing the primer in, but not hard. I've just been keeping an eye on the area around the area where the new primer comes in at the shell plate and removing any grit or slivers of brass. I am not trying to go fast at all, hell I am pulling each case out and making sure the primer is inserted correctly even though it feels good. I'm just making sure each step is correct until I get used to the feel. There are tons of people on here who know reloading inside and out, they'll be along soon to answer in more depth and proper terminology, I'm still learning it all myself.

  25.   So does that mean that Stage #3 requires 3 Mags for a total of 27 rounds for the stage?   - One 9 rounder to start + two mags loaded to 9 rounds each for the two reloads?   - Or is it 9 total rounds for the stage with three mags with 3 rounds each?   Man this math stuff hurts my Liberal Arts Degree head!

  33. Don't come watch, you'll regret it. Bring your gun, mags, holster and pouches and shoot. Oak ridge Sportsmans Association is a great place to get your feet wet. There always a decent turn out of new shooters, plus we always seem to have right around 100 competitors. You will not find a nicer range in the state with more to offer. Theres an idpa match there this Saturday and also next Saturday. Several of us from the middle Tennessee area travel up there so I'm sure a carpool could be easily arranged. Hope to see you out there soon.

  34. I've seen this happen on the other end.  A friend was using his practice arrows with broadheads when bow season started.  He shot a hog right above the shoulder in what should have been a good shot.  The broadhead penetrated ever so slightly, but was left in the dirt as the arrow behind it splintered.   The hog lived to see another day.

  39. The draws are all held on the same day across the state. 1st Saturday in August every year. That includes Dover Camden reel foot etc. Reel foot is the premier public land in west TN. The clubs down there are extremely hard to get into and people have been hunting over there for generations. Tigret out of Memphis is a pretty good. Even if you don't draw a blind for the season you can blind hop. All of the regulations are posted on the twra site. I've hunted all over southeast. Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas and I grew up hunting in the marsh and rice fields of south Louisiana from Texas to the atchafalaya. I have found nothing in this region of the country that compares to the flood timber of northern Louisiana and Arkansas. Years ago Louisiana always had good numbers but with weather pattern changes and the amount of water that Missouri Illinois and Arkansas all now hold its not the same. Outside of reelfoot and private land I've hunted...West Tn is no Arkansas but it's not bad either. I'll blind hop old hickory for fun once or twice a year but other than that I exclusively hunt in Arkansas and make a trip to my friends family land in Louisiana every year. Old hickory glory days are well in the rear view mirror. If you don't know anyone that hunts out there, all you can do is get out there and blind hop. Maybe get at the launch and ask someone if you can tag along. Get involved with the local DU and delta chapters in those locations. good luck to you

  42. I found this many years ago, and I know my first stop will be at Rainbow Bridge. ............................. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown...

  43. Yep. Currency becomes guns, ammo, food, etc. Luxury items like liquor, coffee, etc. Some people think things like gold and silver become the currency, but that doesn't come until later when some form of civilization starts to be restored.

  46. Would you ask them first if carrying a pocket knife into their house was OK?   Would you ask first if carrying a handkerchief into their house was OK?   Would you ask first if carrying a multi tool into their house was OK?   Would you ask first  if carrying your cell phone into their house was OK?   Would you ask first if carrying your wallet into their house was OK?   Would you ask first if carrying a Tourniquet into their house was OK?   The gun is no different than any of the other EDC items I carry around in everyday life. The gun would only ever even be an issue if you pulled it out, or if you told them about it........You are not there to commit crime so the fact that you have it has no effect on other people...unless you need to use it to defend yourself (and them) from a home invasion that happens while you are there.....in that case they'll probably be glad you had it.....   Having said that.....If you plan to be drinking then leaving it in the car would be the best course of action.

  47. I was involved in a head on collision back in 2010. I remember the guy crossing the double yellow line and then in the emergency room. I was told that I fought the MP's and EMS personel. I just got off duty at the Fire department and one of my coworkers who responded said I was fighting off everyone. To this very day, it breaks my heart to think that I acted as I did against the very people whom tried to help me. I remember nothing. I only know what I was told! Sad story with this guy!   DaveS
