" I was advised not to wear my uniform in public when I returned from Vietnam, back in the 60's" I was told this also. When I stepped off the plane at the airport I was proudly wearing my Dress Blues and yea they had to be dry cleaned after I got home from all the spit and tomatoes and many other things I was hit with but I never once lowered my head. I served with pride and dignity and was not about to let the cowardly draft dodges take that from me................... :usa:8 points

You're letting that liberal crap show through again BTQ96R This is a free market capitalist society. It ain't for YOU to decide who i can and cannot sell to anymore than it's up to me to decide who you can and cannot buy from. Telling anyone anything otherwise is pure liberal communist BS. If you don't like it, spend your money elsewhere. The unwritten laws that let capitalism work so well will take care of everything. Run off enough people, you go broke, out of business, the end. It's only a supporter of big government that would support the idea that ANYONE has the right to tell a business owner how to run his business....so long as he pays his taxes, buys his license and ain't peddling illegal goods.3 points

I do not believe it is part of the flag code to lower the flag at the White House because a soldier or soldiers are killed while on duty. Although Bush is no longer president, and the nightly news doesn't begin each broadcast with a "death count" anymore, you guys do realize we still have troops fighting and being killed on a regular basis in Afghanistan as well as other places? If the flag was flown at half staff each time a service member died, I expect half staff would be the normal mode of flying. Please don't think I'm discounting the soldiers' lives. I'm not. I'm just saying that if you want to criticize our president, there is more than ample material to use without knitpicky stuff like this.3 points

Our Manchurian president is fulfilling his mission beautifully. and he will not lower the WH flag... unless forced to. and those that call this weakness, you are mistaken. this is not weakness. every action of this president when examined to it's core is outright treason with bold and willful intent. even the nuance of his actions... when examined reveal the same. when studied, one will find that his actions have not once been for the strengthening of American his 6 years have been the most damaging to this country of any leader in American history.3 points

We had supper last night at The Corner Pub in MJ. We ended up parking at the other end near Papa Johns and we walked past the entry door I had to do a double take their posting was gone. So after after we ate we again went past tbe entry door one of the drivers was walking back in so I asked him why the posting was gone? He said too many people complained so they took it down. Kind of wondering if it was a corporate directive or a store based decision.2 points

DoJ does not do what it does for "justice" any more. They are the "enforcers" of our government, a government that could not be more corrupt or prejudiced if it tried. I have always said that ANY shop owner should be able to refuse to sell to anyone they do not want to sell to. If the reason happens to be because of race, sex, religion or any of the other "protected" classes so be it. FFLs are probably the last ones that can actually refuse to sell and not have the feds come in to investigate. What would worry me is the other "radicals" looking for a way to martyr themselves might see this guy as the motivation.2 points

Everything this idiot does is for political reasons. I think he deliberately avoids satisfying the right-wing of this country or as he puts it, the Bible thumping gun owners who love our military. He jumps on issues that divide this country at a minutes notice and hold backs on other issues for the sole purpose to keep "US" agitated, and it's working. His last day in office cannot come too soon.2 points

Rules or policy or whatever you call it , The flag , in my opinion , should have been lowered the same day . It would have showed SUPPORT for the families of the soldiers that were killed . I don't care about policy when it comes to good ole down to earth RESPECT. The families are now hearing that it took this long , almost a week , to lower the flag and I cant imagine how they feel. It's bad enough losing your family member , and even adds more pain when the goverment that their dead family member worked for doesn't even show the simplest little respect by doing this the FIRST day it happened. And that's my $0.02 .2 points

If recruiting stations aren't ready for small arms fire and even IED's, or the powers that be refuse to acknowledge the threat, maybe this event was the kick in the complacency we needed. People are talking about it now, which is a good thing. Wouldn't be the first time in military history a successful attack makes the brass take notice and do the right thing well after NCO's and junior officers have been pointing it out.2 points

Worse than too little too late, y'all. He waited five days to order the flag to be lowered to half staff in honor of five fallen soldiers, but waited less than a day after the SCOTUS ruling on gay marriage to light up the entire White House like a rainbow. Yep. Speaker of the House of Representative Boehner ordered the U.S. Flag flying over the U.S Capitol building to fly at half staff. That was the final pressure needed to get the skinny Kenyan Shiite in Our White House to roll over and publish the order allowing the U.S. Flag across the country to fly at half staff. Too late by far. Now that we know for sure that the obammunist can be rolled, he should be rolled and rolled all the way down the hill and into the river, where perhaps he will drown.2 points

You are right as far as not lowering it for our troops overseas, or training accidents or any of the other "standard" way our troops can lose their lives. But when an incident is out of the ordinary, which this soon may be, then it is not uncommon for the flag to be lowered. If incidents like sandy hook can have it lowered, then surely an attack such as this merits it as well. I don't think this president can have even the appearance of disliking our military, and incidents like this do him no favors when he fails to act in an appropriate manner or at least come out and strongly denounce these acts.2 points

At least they didn't waste any time [emoji57] It should have been within the day. This is different than soldiers killed in action. It was an obvious terror attack on U.S. soil. No brainier for any President who has the ability to think freely.2 points

Well, I hate to get technical about this, but the places around Fort Campbell are actually wrong. As distasteful as it may seem, soldiers getting shot and killed is not justification under the current code to lower the flag to half mast. However, the President does have the authority to call for it to be lowered in times of tragedy that aren't covered in the flag code. Now, you could make a pretty good argument that this is a situation in which he should exercise that power, and rightfully so. But until he does so, flags should be kept flying high.2 points

So I was surfing the web the other day an seen where someone else had made a rear sight for their AK. Seemed easy enough so I gave it a try. I traded an AK FCG for a Saiga top cover which is a little thicker. The top cover on my Draco has ZERO movement so I knew if I could figure out how to attach it I knew it would work. This increased the sight radius from 10" to 17.5" which is more than a standard AR carbine. It took me a few prototypes but I finally figured it out. Then once I had the holes for the sight worked out I dimpled the right ear so I could actually zero the rear sight and have the adjustments stay. And here is a mock up. And one I was sure everything was good I drilled more holes in the sight and added some plates for the screws. And even though I do not have pictures I disassembled the sight and then heated the wings and plates to red hot and dunked them in used oil to give it a nice dark blued/black finish. After that I drilled the top cover and installed it after I made sure everything was lined up. And here is what it looks like. And once I am 100% positive everything is good I will have it permanently welded to the top cover. And if anyone is interested I can tell you what parts you need. You can build this exact same setup for under $30 using a brand new sight. I was able to trade for my parts and everything works great thanks so Smith who supplied the top covers for me. Edited to add instructions: If you plan on welding you use steel but you could also use aluminum to so the same. In addition to the tools and supplies below I also used: A hammer A flat tip screw driver A few punches A marker A vice A file I also used a compressor, angle grinder and bench grinder but this can be done using all hand tools. Here is the 3/4" mild steel square tubing. I bought it at Home Depot but should be at most home improvement stores. Crown Bolt 3/4 in. x 36 in. Plain Steel Square Tube with 1/16 in. Thick-40320 - The Home Depot It is 3/4" square and 1/16" thick. As far as the actual sight I have found the cheap knockoff I got worked great. So any A2 style sight will work but verify the hole diameters before drilling the holes in the square tube. Here is an example of the rear sight I used. Brand New Tactical Detachable Carry Handle with Dual Aperture A2 Sight Black | eBay And if you want even simpler you can use an A1 style rear sight. I needed a way to attach the sight to the top cover so I used this. Crown Bolt 1/2 in. 36 in. Plain Steel Flat Bar with 1/8 in. Thick-43970 - The Home Depot Those are the steel pad that are drilled and tapped for the screws to come through the top cover and thread into to hold the sight in place. To drill and tap all the holes I used this. DEWALT # 36 Drill and 6 in. x 32 NC Tap Set-DWA1400 - The Home Depot And here are the screws I used. The Hillman Group #6-32 x 1/2 in. Slotted Round-Head Machine Screws (30-Pack)-944 - The Home Depot I did have to thin the head a little to clear the bolt carrier. Once I verified the size of the sight shaft I then drill the holes in the square tubing for the shaft. First I marked, with a punch, the centerline of the holes which is ~.250" above the bottom of the tube when measured from the outside. The first hole is .140" in diameter and should go through both sides. Then through one side I drill another hole that is .215" in diameter. The large hole is for the screw side of the sight and NOT the zero drum side. Once I had the holes drilled I took the sight shaft and put it through the housing like I was going to assemble it. I used the zero drum, with the ball bearing and spring, detent to mark the path of the detent by spinning it around a few times. This left a visible ring you can use for marking the detent holes. Then I split the path up with eight marks for where I wanted the detents and used a punch to start the keep the drill bit from walking. I used a drill bit he same size as the ball detent and made sure I did NOT drill through the housing. I guess you could also use a smaller hole and drill completely through but I prefer my way. Next I cut off the parts we just drilled for the rest of the tube. You can leave as much or as little as you want on either end but realize the tapped blocks need room to hold the rear sight spring in place with a little room for movement. Then I cut out the metal between the two ears. Then I started contouring it for looks/performance. Next I installed the sight shaft then I slide the sight spring, a flat spring with a slight bow in it, under the sight centered it under the sight. I made the slight blocks from the 3/4" wife and 1/8" thick banding that I drilled and tapped for the 6-32 screws. These blocks serve two functions, to hold the sight spring in place so it cannot come out from under the rear sight when switching between short and long range aperatures. They are also used to bolt the sight itself to the top cover. Once the blocks were drilled I placed them back in the sight making sure the sight spring was not binding and marked where to drill the clearance hole in the sight housing. Then once I verified they were in the center I drilled out the clearance holes. For the clearance holes you can either use a larger drill bit, like I did, or you can run the drill bit in and out at angles to slowly open up the clearance hole. I put the sight back together again and then I centered the rear aperature. Once centered I lined up the rear sight aperature with the factory rear sight and finally the front sight. Once I was satisfied everything was lined up I had someone else mark the holes in the top cover. Then I used 6-32 screws to go up through the top cover, through the sight housing and finally into the blocks that were tapped 6-32. Then I screw it all together and check for fitment as well as function (I did have to reduce the height of the screw heads). Then once I was happy I disassembled everything the put some sort of finish on it before reassembling it one final time with blue Loctite. And if I am not clear enough please feel free to ask questions. It did take me three prototypes before I made the fourth, and final, version. And don't be afraid to cut the sight too long because you can always remove material but it is much harder to add. I cut one prototype too short, a second I reversed the left and right side holes in the housing and one I messed up the detent holes. But now I feel confident enough that I will be making these for a few other guns in the future.1 point

Just because a gun is the same make and model as one listed on the gun auctions, doesn't mean it's value is the same. There are 55 Chevy's worth $5,000 and 55 Chevy's worth $50,000 and the same principle applies to firearms. Then, a two door hardtop 55 Chevy model would probably bring more than one of a lower grade model in the same condition. Obviously, there are a number of considerations when assesing the value of a firearm of the same make and model. Here are a few, and possibly some of you can think of others. 1. Condition...this is pretty simple, normally a truck gun of the same make and model as a mint condition safe queen, is not worth as much. A gun with a defect, such as rust, pitting, worn blueing, cracks and splits in the wood furniture, broken firing pins, reblued and refinished wood hardware and missing sights, will be worth less. 2. Grade... same make and model... a field grade is not worth as much as an intermediate grade or a deluxe grade. Usually, it is wise to take a close look at the capital letters at the end of the basic model number. There can be a significant difference in values between the bottom and top grades. 3. Age...can up the price or lower the price, depends on how much age we're talking about and if it has collectable status. Going back to the Chevy... a 2013 Chevy is probably worth less than a 2015 Chevy... but an original condition 1955 Chevy, with 28,000 actual miles, in a two door hardtop may be worth more than the two combined. Likewise, firearms from the 1800s usually fetch more than the same make and caliber of a modern example. 4. Location... certain guns fill their nich better in some locations than others. As an example, some states ban center fire rifles for deer hunting. Shotguns with slug barrels would probably bring more there than states without that restriction. At least one state bans semi-auto rifles for deer hunting. Naturally, a pump rifle in a deer harvesting caliber, would bring more there than it would in states without that restriction. A super big bore rifle would probably be worth more in Alaska than it would be in Alabama. 5. Season... just as a kayak is worth much less in December, than it is in July, guns can bring less when all of the hunting seasons are closed than they do in the open season. With the popularity of target shooting at an all time high, this may or may not hold true...probably depending on the make, model and caliber. 6. Brand (make)... not much to say here. A Rolls Royce usually is worth more than a Chevy. You know the RR of guns... we affectionally call them snob guns, as many of us can't afford them. Personally, I can only afford to window shop. 7. Scarcity.... usually, these guns have been out of production for a number of years... and often they had a short production run. Back to the automibile example... there was a time when you could hardly give away a Ford Edsel...check out the prices of them these days. 8. Motivation... this can be the motivation of the seller or buyer. Usually, we think of it as the motivation of the seller, as the seller is the one that establishes the asking price. Someone out of work and needing to feed their family may be a motivated seller, while someone with plenty of money may be a motivated buyer. Usually, this is where the tactic of negotiation (dickering) comes into play. Many of you may think of areas I have missed, but these come to mind as I read the listings on the sites that offer these treasures for us to consider. Good buying and good selling to all my gun connoisseur brotheren. As a seller, we don't want to sell too low...and, as a buyer, we don't want to pay too much. A fair price, for buyer or seller, is the ideal situation. Good luck to both buyers and sellers.1 point

The last paragraph pretty well sums up their reasoning. ""We have a lot of work to do," Smith said. "Running the background, history and legality of these weapons is going to require a tremendous amount of time. It's not a crime to have a large number of weapons so long as they were legal to own and legally obtained. We want to make sure that's the case." In police work, you look for the different or the unusual. Here we have both. The Police have a large enough number of guns that the guy could have been in the back door gun business, or supplying them to the criminal elements of the U.S. or Mexico, or he could have stolen them. LAPD would be irresponsible not to check the legality of each and every gun under these circumstances. Only a stupid rookie asking to get fired would have released them to relatives without checking each and every one of them beforehand. I've known some stupid cops, but I've never known one that stupid. As for the confiscation of the guns, if LAPD just left them locked up in the house and one of them wound up at the scene of a Border Patrolman's murder, well, you see where I'm coming from. They had to secure the guns from both theft and misuse. Responsibility to the public safety demands same. No big deal here. Routine and unavoidable police work done in good faith as far as I can see.1 point

Aaah yes! our news media at work again. You can call it a stash or an arsenal if you want to. I call it one hell of a collection.
