Notice they don't protest at an Outlaws MC funeral. They are going to get a real rude awakening someday when somebody who has no fear of being sued stomps one of their people's guts out. Sent from the backwoods5 points

Last time I attended a Military funeral was here in Gallatin when a Local marine was killed in Iraq. The Westboro Church showed up for that one and so did the Patriot Guard. The LEO's here told the Church members that is they even so much as stepped 1 foot off the side walk and into the street they would be arrested immediately as their protest paperwork stated side walks only and they gave them an appointed location they were allowed in which to protest. Then when the Patriot Guard showed up 150+ strong the police told them that they could not park their motorcycles on any Sidewalks. The gave the Guard a designated location that they could horizontally back their motor cycles into the curb of which all were flying large American flags on the rear of the bikes. The parking area was directly in front of the Westboro Church sidewalk location. With all of the flags blowing in the breezes you could not even see the church members. I politely thanked one of the LEO's for their designed thinking and he just smiled and said thank you. Funeral came off without a hitch...................... :up:4 points

Obama won't lower the flag on the White House or any federal facility to honor these brave men. Yet he lowered the flag to half staff for Nelson Mandela's funeral (not even an American citizen) and couldn't wait to put rainbow lights on the White House when gay marriage was legalized. To quote Wisconsin County Sheriff David Clarke (an African-American and Democrat) talking about Obama: “Everything that he does just comes up wrong. I’ve never seen a president like this–that everything he touches tends to turn to crap,” he added. I just hope Obama does not come to Chattanooga.3 points

Westboro Baptist church members live for being attacked. That is how they make their money. They hope their rights are violated so they can sue. Most of the active members are actually lawyers or studying to be one. We all have our ways of making money and surviving but their way is absolutely disgusting. Anger should not be the emotion anyone who is burying a loved one should feel at their funeral and at some point someone is going to loose it and try to kill them. And although I do not condone anyone being killed for exercising their rights if it happens I will not be too upset about it. And maybe after they see their members are loosing their lives they will find an ambulance or two to chase rather than use their right to free speech to desecrate our heroes. And even though the Westboro members have the right to free speech they choose to use it to disrespect those that have actually fought so they have that right and that is what bothers me more than anything else. They do not realize that is was those Marines, and sailor, that ensures they have that right to protect at the funerals of the fallen.3 points

I got a very informative email from them this morning hammering Haslam, and rightly so is seems, for sitting on his hands and doing nothing so far to increase security at military institutions. What kind of job does the TFA do? Is it worth supporting? I know I like what they say in this email. Here is the email I got: Tennessee's Governor, Bill Haslam, calls for "review" of how to respond to terrorist attack. TFA calls for passage of Constitutional Carry and elimination of gun free zones now. Chattanooga's terrorist attack on military related facilities was not a strategic military strike. It was not a vendetta against specific individuals. It was an act of premeditated suicidal carnage designed primarily to inflict terror on a civilian population in the name of a socio-economic-political regime that seeks to exterminate anything that is not submissive to it. In the last 4 days, there have been many calls and demands made for Bill Haslam, as the governor of the state of Tennessee, to take action to provide security for Tennessee's military facilities which, to a rational person should be unnecessary but for the Alice-In-Wonderland world of political correctness that disarms the armed forces of this country on their own bases and facilities. Governors of at least six other states have moved swiftly to act but Tennessee - still 4 days after the needless deaths - remains as it was minutes before life ended for these men of Tennessee. Why? One reason - our governor, Bill Haslam. Bill Haslam went on the Meet the Press on Sunday and declared he was going to "review" his options. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IccM5NwqvQ8 ) Review? Bill Haslam wants to "review" his options. How much of a review was there on Thursday when in the minutes following the terrorist attack the Governor's manison was placed on lock down? How much review was there when within minutes the Tennessee legislature and capitol were placed under increased security? Governors in other states have already acted decisively. Even individual citizens are taking action. Local law enforcement even moved into action. But the timid governor of the State of Tennessee seeks only to "review" his options? Former State Representative Joe Carr has been calling for real action - not delays and indecision. He points to the swift responses of other states to the terrorist act in Tennessee. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/07/18/time-for-the-states-to-lead-arm-soldiers-on-american-bases/ Under the Tennessee Constitution and relevant statutes, the governor is the commander-in-chief of all state military forces, including the state unorganized militia, the State Guard, and the Tennessee National Guard. He also commands the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Governor Haslam could, as commander-in-chief, have issued orders within minutes of the terrorist attack to provide armed responses from multiple resources to protect Tennesseans - whether civilian or in military service. Yet, in a span of almost 4 days now, his most aggressive response is to call for a "review" of what his options may be and to suggest that he must be submissive to whatever move Barack Obama may take, if any. The frustration of a feckless leader is bad enough. It embarrassing for the Volunteer State. Its a disgrace to those in public service who put their lives at risk. But, setting those considerations aside for the moment, let's assume that Tennessee's governor takes some actual responsive and protective action at some point by providing increased arms or security at these military facilities. Is that enough or does it create other problems if that is all he does? Remember, this was not a strategic military strike -- it was a terrorist act. The objective was terror through senseless multiple victim murder. The fact that it was directed at unarmed members of the armed forces on our soil is probably just "option a" in the Islamic terrorist manual. Are we to assume that any additional planned or potential terrorist attacks will just stop if and when Haslam acts to harden the military facilities and storefronts? No. It would be foolish to think that the Islamic terrorist manual only has "option a - attack the unarmed soldiers." Indeed, terrorists attacks all over the world already reveal that civilian targets are equally if not more at risk. Thus, it is more likely, as in other countries, that the terrorist playbook already provides that the terrorist operatives are to merely refocus on other, perhaps softer targets including civilian targets such as schools, hospitals, playgrounds, places of employment, places of entertainment, public and private office buildings, grocery stores, malls, movie theaters, legislatures, transportation hubs, churches and any place where there are concentrated gatherings. This is universally the strategy of attacking in gun free zones - the most carnage for the smallest investment in the number of suicide operatives. Arming the armed forces is a no brainer. It should have always been the rule and was until the era of political correctness. While this nation prohibits standing armies, we do not prohibit are armed forces from being able to effectively defend themselves from attack. But what also MUST occur in Tennessee and all other States is the complete removal of all infringements, as the 2nd Amendment provides, on the rights of the people to keep and bear arms. Tennessee's constitution in Article I, Section 26, even declares that the same rights recognized by the 2nd Amendment also include the right to "wear" arms. We must demand, as Tennesseans, the passage of Constitutional Carry in Tennessee and support the same in other states. We must demand that Gun Free Zones be eliminated in Tennessee and support the same in other states. We must hold elected officials accountable for immediately passing constitutional carry and eliminating all gun free zones. Indeed, many public facilities in Tennessee are gun free zones not because of a statute but because some public official in Haslam's administration or in local government just decided to post the property "gun free" - those signs can and should be removed across the state today! Hardening the military, without more, will do nothing more than refocus the terrorism toward softer targets, civilian targets - you, your family and your friends. I wonder if Bill Haslam and his appointee, Bill Gibbons, are "reviewing" constitutional carry and the elimination of gun free zones in Tennessee as they benefit from their own state provided armed security and armed public officer transports today? Perhaps you should call Bill Haslam's office: (615) 741-2001 or Bill Gibbons at his office (615) 251-5128 and ask them how the "review" is going and if you can offer a few suggestions. Oh, and don't forget - Bill Haslam promised 5 years ago to sign constitutional carry into law in Tennessee but, as of yet, he has not only failed to do so but he has effectively worked to kill any legislation to do so. ( www.tennesseefirearms.com/haslam ) While you have the Governor on the phone, ask him when he is going to honor his promise....2 points

The lost some respect from me when they used their mailing list to urge members to support an opposition rally against the proposed Medicaid expansion (Insure Tennessee) last February. I like my single issue organizations to stay focused on single issues. If I wanted to be contacted about random conservative political causes, I would have joined the Tea Party and other orgs for that. I'll also second LagerHead's comments on the message they put out. While the facts about how the votes and the process goes down are accurate, the syntax of it can get pretty hostile, which does nothing to aid the public debate. On the plus side, they do keep fantastic records of current legislation, along with each State Rep and Senator and how they vote on gun related issues. It may seem simple, but between the speed of our General Assembly's McSessions, and the fact that TFA is an all volunteer organization, it's pretty impressive. If you're ever in doubt what issues are in play, or where a candidate stands gun wise, TFA will be the place to go for research.2 points

The people in Chattanooga have taken this very personal, and most are having a hard time dealing with it. I guess we all had the feeling that "it could never happen in our town". I'm sure the streets will be lined for the funeral procession, and if the crazies show up, will be taken care of. FWIW... the picture posted above of the memorial on Lee Highway is only part of it. There's another one on Amnicola Highway, at the Naval/Marine OP's Center just as big if not bigger.2 points

Haven't thought about this much, my mom bought it at a yard sale for me over 15 years ago for $5. It's a 1969 Speer bullet display board, the Wells and Fargo Stagecoach edition. I've seen a few around of different editions, some just stamp metal. I found a Speer website and this edition had only 2000 made, it's missing a .308 200gr bullet, looks like someone tried to glue it back with Elmers or some weak glue and some bullets have some corrosion spots but it's still pretty cool. Never new it was that cool although i have always liked it. 2 points

So I was surfing the web the other day an seen where someone else had made a rear sight for their AK. Seemed easy enough so I gave it a try. I traded an AK FCG for a Saiga top cover which is a little thicker. The top cover on my Draco has ZERO movement so I knew if I could figure out how to attach it I knew it would work. This increased the sight radius from 10" to 17.5" which is more than a standard AR carbine. It took me a few prototypes but I finally figured it out. Then once I had the holes for the sight worked out I dimpled the right ear so I could actually zero the rear sight and have the adjustments stay. And here is a mock up. And one I was sure everything was good I drilled more holes in the sight and added some plates for the screws. And even though I do not have pictures I disassembled the sight and then heated the wings and plates to red hot and dunked them in used oil to give it a nice dark blued/black finish. After that I drilled the top cover and installed it after I made sure everything was lined up. And here is what it looks like. And once I am 100% positive everything is good I will have it permanently welded to the top cover. And if anyone is interested I can tell you what parts you need. You can build this exact same setup for under $30 using a brand new sight. I was able to trade for my parts and everything works great thanks so Smith who supplied the top covers for me. Edited to add instructions: If you plan on welding you use steel but you could also use aluminum to so the same. In addition to the tools and supplies below I also used: A hammer A flat tip screw driver A few punches A marker A vice A file I also used a compressor, angle grinder and bench grinder but this can be done using all hand tools. Here is the 3/4" mild steel square tubing. I bought it at Home Depot but should be at most home improvement stores. Crown Bolt 3/4 in. x 36 in. Plain Steel Square Tube with 1/16 in. Thick-40320 - The Home Depot It is 3/4" square and 1/16" thick. As far as the actual sight I have found the cheap knockoff I got worked great. So any A2 style sight will work but verify the hole diameters before drilling the holes in the square tube. Here is an example of the rear sight I used. Brand New Tactical Detachable Carry Handle with Dual Aperture A2 Sight Black | eBay And if you want even simpler you can use an A1 style rear sight. I needed a way to attach the sight to the top cover so I used this. Crown Bolt 1/2 in. 36 in. Plain Steel Flat Bar with 1/8 in. Thick-43970 - The Home Depot Those are the steel pad that are drilled and tapped for the screws to come through the top cover and thread into to hold the sight in place. To drill and tap all the holes I used this. DEWALT # 36 Drill and 6 in. x 32 NC Tap Set-DWA1400 - The Home Depot And here are the screws I used. The Hillman Group #6-32 x 1/2 in. Slotted Round-Head Machine Screws (30-Pack)-944 - The Home Depot I did have to thin the head a little to clear the bolt carrier. Once I verified the size of the sight shaft I then drill the holes in the square tubing for the shaft. First I marked, with a punch, the centerline of the holes which is ~.250" above the bottom of the tube when measured from the outside. The first hole is .140" in diameter and should go through both sides. Then through one side I drill another hole that is .215" in diameter. The large hole is for the screw side of the sight and NOT the zero drum side. Once I had the holes drilled I took the sight shaft and put it through the housing like I was going to assemble it. I used the zero drum, with the ball bearing and spring, detent to mark the path of the detent by spinning it around a few times. This left a visible ring you can use for marking the detent holes. Then I split the path up with eight marks for where I wanted the detents and used a punch to start the keep the drill bit from walking. I used a drill bit he same size as the ball detent and made sure I did NOT drill through the housing. I guess you could also use a smaller hole and drill completely through but I prefer my way. Next I cut off the parts we just drilled for the rest of the tube. You can leave as much or as little as you want on either end but realize the tapped blocks need room to hold the rear sight spring in place with a little room for movement. Then I cut out the metal between the two ears. Then I started contouring it for looks/performance. Next I installed the sight shaft then I slide the sight spring, a flat spring with a slight bow in it, under the sight centered it under the sight. I made the slight blocks from the 3/4" wife and 1/8" thick banding that I drilled and tapped for the 6-32 screws. These blocks serve two functions, to hold the sight spring in place so it cannot come out from under the rear sight when switching between short and long range aperatures. They are also used to bolt the sight itself to the top cover. Once the blocks were drilled I placed them back in the sight making sure the sight spring was not binding and marked where to drill the clearance hole in the sight housing. Then once I verified they were in the center I drilled out the clearance holes. For the clearance holes you can either use a larger drill bit, like I did, or you can run the drill bit in and out at angles to slowly open up the clearance hole. I put the sight back together again and then I centered the rear aperature. Once centered I lined up the rear sight aperature with the factory rear sight and finally the front sight. Once I was satisfied everything was lined up I had someone else mark the holes in the top cover. Then I used 6-32 screws to go up through the top cover, through the sight housing and finally into the blocks that were tapped 6-32. Then I screw it all together and check for fitment as well as function (I did have to reduce the height of the screw heads). Then once I was happy I disassembled everything the put some sort of finish on it before reassembling it one final time with blue Loctite. And if I am not clear enough please feel free to ask questions. It did take me three prototypes before I made the fourth, and final, version. And don't be afraid to cut the sight too long because you can always remove material but it is much harder to add. I cut one prototype too short, a second I reversed the left and right side holes in the housing and one I messed up the detent holes. But now I feel confident enough that I will be making these for a few other guns in the future.1 point

I was on hwy 111 from Cookeville to Livingston this afternoon and noticed at the Overton county line a flag at half staff, the one at the bank was half staff and the post office was at the top. Sure makes you feel real proud that at least the local people know what to do with the flag at times like these. If anyone can confirm that the owner of the strip mall is going to put up a memorial, it would be great if the TGOers could start a donation fund to help with the cost. Just a thought.1 point

I went with SAA Dragon's Head Linear Comps on mine, much better than the standard A2 flash hiders. I must be missing something. I didn't read anywhere that he wants to prevent everyone on SS from being able to own guns. It specifically states that this is only for people who have been legally deemed incapable of managing their own affairs. While I am certainly against coming up with arbitrary reasons to prevent people from owning guns, some of you sound like hypocrites. I believe most reasonable people and a majority of gun owners feel that those with documented mental illness should not own or possess weapons. I suppose we can argue if there is a difference between mental illness and the ability to manage your own affairs, but I don't personally see an issue. I can't say I disagree with it. If people aren't mentally capable of taking care of their own affairs, they shouldn't to me be possessing a gun either in my opinion. If the NRA had come up with the idea of using known information such as this to prevent those who most likely aren't mentally capable from possessing guns, most would be saying "see, what a good idea by the NRA!" I am the first to admit, I don't think everyone should or is capable of having a gun. This to me seems reasonable. I am not debating that he doesn't want to push it further where I don't agree, but in this case, I am ok with the idea. Now, they should in no way be able to just confiscate them, they should go to family members or something. That is one thing I would have an issue with. Flame away :hat:1 point

If I were the President or Governor of a state I would be doing anything and everything I could to keep and grow business here. Free land, tax breaks, whatever it takes. OSHA and EPA is a huge cost that many foreign competitors don’t have. We don’t want to give up many of those protections and standards so the Feds need to step up and divert some of that money they are handing out to social welfare programs to help industry with those costs. Then many of those people that want to work wouldn’t need a handout from the government; they would have a job. I understand there are many people that live off the government and want to keep it that way, but I believe the majority of people want to work at a good job with a fair wage. Increase manufacturing here and not only will the economy get better, but crime will drop. Unfortunately for some the word protectionism is a bad word. I am not part of that group. This is our country and it’s our responsibility and duty to protect our economy. The government isn't responsible to maintain it; we are. They just need to help where they can and not be against us. Sure it is. But he isn’t a religious leader; he’s just a figurehead. I don’t care anymore about his opinion on gun control or abortion than I do about his opinion on a restaurant; it means nothing. The economy and jobs is something he can do something about and bring with him the people that can get it done. Morals? From everything I hear Hillary Clinton is leading the polls right now. So morals don’t mean much too many people in a President. I am amazed that anyone could vote for her. Unfortunately many of the people that would be good at the job of President; don’t want it. It’s pretty easy to find something in most anyone’s past.1 point
