I love V8's and especially big ones, but a small fuel efficient twin turbo V6 that will be lighter and have more performance is a-ok in my book! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Biggest problem I see is their interbreeding with stray domestic dogs. Country folk call them coy-dogs. They are fearless and extremely aggressive. About 15-18 years ago I was living in west TN next to Westvaco timber land. Very remote. I saw first hand how aggressive they are. I've killed dozens of them and they have the instincts of the coyote but they lack the natural fear of humans. These are a very real problem in urban areas. Detroit for one. One of the worst I personally have encountered was a pack of about 8 or 10. Didn't really have the leisure of time for an accurate head count. One in particular cornered me in the backyard of where I was living. My nearest neighbor was serval miles, so as I said, quite remote. He didn't charge me but pressed forward and I could hear several from his pack circling in the tree line surrounding the house. All I had was a little .38 Iver Johnson revolver which was more than he could bear and the noise ran the others off for a short while but the one I shot looked to me to be a cross between a Rottweiler and a Coyote. I've heard from people that lived in that area that they've seen Pitts mixed with coyotes. Abandoned dogs were quite common in that area. I hunted down several and they are quite difficult to kill. They fight hard. I was still young and dumb then, that's when I found out just how useless a 55g fmj in a .223 really is. At the time I had a Garand also. They didn't fare too well against it. ;)2 points

...for being lights in the darkness, examples of women and men who believe in "do unto others", for tolerance when we disagree, for offering help and assistance to strangers, producers instead of looters, righteous in the face of evil, willing to give a hand up not a hand out, taking personal responsibility and accountability for your actions and expecting others to do the same, for having a moral compass in a country without God where everything is permissible. You all are a great bunch of people, keep up the good fight, I'm glad I found TGO.2 points

At the time the Government started its coyote control program in Wyoming back in the 70's, sheepherders out there were suffering 20% losses of their flocks to coyotes. Now considering that a flock can be as many as 10,000 sheep, that's 2,000 sheep lost to coyotes in this hypothetical flock. A friend of mine was a Government coyote hunter and trapper in Rock Springs, Wyoming during the late 70's and 80's, and he and two others routinely killed 600 coyotes per year just in the county around Rock Springs by hunting, calling, and trapping. I talked to him a number of times after he had spent the day shooting coyotes from an aircraft, either a helicopter or Super Cub, and in every instance he had shot roughly 40 animals that day, while the others on horseback took another dozen or so. One day the chopper settled him in just above a pack of coyotes on a dead cow elk and he killed 12 of them with his issue Beretta 12 gauge auto before the other coyotes got wise and boogied. The chopper went off into the hills for a while and returned about a half hour later and shot another dozen coyotes off of the same cow elk. After the program was in full swing it managed to bring sheep losses down from 20% to 5% - or from 2,000 sheep lost per 10,000 to ONLY 500. This is what happens when the coyote has a reliable food source and no predators - they multiply to profusion and raise bloody hell with other animal populations. So to try to answer your question, the coyote in numbers is a major league danger to any and all animals in the region, not just to dogs and cats. Once they get a strong foothold in a region, coyote eradication can become a major cost and consideration in any venture involving animal husbandry, and the local small game population diminishes accordingly as well. My friend told me that the Piute Indians had a saying that "the coyote will howl over the last man's grave." They're that smart and that resilient. So in small numbers they may be just a nuisance to pets and fawns, but in large numbers they're a real problem that is almost impossible to solve. Just ask the State Legislatures of Wyoming or Utah. Hope these thoughts help answer your question. P.S - I've never heard of coyotes attacking human children, but still, I sure wouldn't let my toddlers outside unsupervised if I had coyotes In the area.2 points

At first I hated the idea of an eco boost Raptor, but after owning my 2011 Raptor for long enough I welcome the idea of better mileage, and since it will have more HP and Torque than the 6.2, the wife and I have decided to trade her Navigator in on a 2017 Super crew Ford Raptor, I just hope they launch the Supercrew along with the super cab and we can get it in the fall of 2016 and not later1 point

my big little brother came down to visit, wanting to try some shooting, I think he like shooting the Mutant the best over my other AR,s because of the muzzle flash it made late in day over the 5.56. anyway I have a small range set up in back with some MGM steel plates that I still have because there were knock over' I did not use them because I could not pick them up. I finally got the idea to get some heavy duty door hinges and have them welded to the target stand's and to the targets so they would just flip over. the 4" are on the stands and the 5" are made into a mini plate rack. in the one picture is the bottom of the top of the target stand and on the other half is the bent rod . cut into 2 pieces by brother with 1 shot. now have gone bought some angle iron so if there is a next time may be bullet will be deflected some.1 point

Just getting started here. I lurked a bit for a while, but finally decided to join the herd. My name is Josh and I'm a born and raised Knoxville fellow. My dad was Army for a stent and raised me to shoot safely, even if we didn't shoot that often. Currently I'm active USAF stationed at Ft Gordon in GA, but I frequently come home to Knoxville on leave. I've been getting in to shooting on my own a lot more in the past year, and have even started getting into IDPA, having run my first match this past April up at the ORSA. I'm also looking to get started in 3 gun by August (wife permitting!). I've got a Glock 19 and a Ruger SP101 at the moment, and I'm waiting on a RRA R3 upper to come in so I can build my first AR. For the future, if I like 3 gun, I'll likely look into getting a Stoeger m300 as a starter shotgun. Oh and though I'm currently without it, I'm hoping to have my CWP in the works before August. I’ve neglected getting until now because the carry laws in GA are nice enough to allow many people to interpret us military to fall under the same category as law enforcement and carry without a permit. I just have to remember to disarm myself before crossing any borders. Cheers! I'm glad to finally be on here.1 point

completely incorrect info. People assume this because of the little motors that people slap turbos on with incorrect AR's or simply too large for the application. Turbo doesn't have to be fully spooled to create the torque. In the cobalt I built, it hit full spool at 4000rpm, but out of that little 2.0 L motor, it still had over 300wtq @ 3000 rpm & maxed at over 360wtq @ 4200 rpm. Torque curves are easily adjustable with some programming, can also do it with some of the new technologies out on the turbos themselves. that 6.2L motor puts down the same power and torque as the ecoboost stock, the ecoboost has more torque on the low end AND you could squeeze out another 100+ wtq from the ecoboost with nothing more than a tune. Try to get an extra 100wtq out of that 6.2 and see how far down in your pockets you have to go.1 point

The problem is, a boosted 4 or 6 banger doesn't have that part throttle tq of a v8. Turbos especially.1 point

The lighter, more fuel efficient, yet more powerful motor is here and it is here to stay. Many manufacturers are making 4 and 6 cylinders that put out 400hp and more, or are close to debuting them. They may not give you that V8 rumble that we all know and love, but you can't argue that you get more bang for your buck when you're carrying less weight and still delivering all that power to the wheels.1 point

He shot a great match that evening. Stage 5, he beat everyone by 3 secs or more on raw time. It was what was in the nook. I don't check the website prior to local matches for those that don't pre-register(we don't offer pre-registration). Hope I can update it to EX on the next shoot.1 point

Probably the last update for this thread. I will start a new one in General for all my questions in a week or so. We pulled into our new place outside Jonesborough this morning about 10:30am. We are now living with 2 lawn chairs and a new bed that was delivered this afternoon. The rest of the household stuff along with another load from my shop show up on Saturday. We plan to get our TN drivers licenses and auto plates tomorrow then open a bank account, then we will be official.1 point

I mostly know Trap, but my .02 It really depends on the game. The barrel length has more to do with the speed/smoothness of the swing as well as the balance of the gun. Trap seems to prefer a longer barreled heavier gun setup for rising targets. When I switch from a 8.5lb 30" Barrel gun to a 6.5lb 26" barreled gun I am always way ahead of the target as it swings so much faster than the longer/heavier gun. I've recently grown fond of a 34" barreled gun for singles. Such a smooth feeling gun. A lot of trap shooters also prefer a high rib. As a two eyed shooter, being able to see under the barrel is a big advantage. Use a choke that fills a 30" circle at 20-25yds for skeet and 40yds for trap as a guideline. Being you already shoot it for competition I'm sure you've already patterned it for fit and POA vs POI. Bottom line, give it a try. I'm sure everybody has heard the stories of the guy with the 870 pump out shooting the guy with the 12K P gun :)1 point

Well, this is the first full thread I've read since becoming a member, and I must say. I had no clue that there were fluffy cows, much less fluffy chaps. I hope this isn't setting a trend since my first post outside of the introduction page is also about fluffy cows and chaps...1 point

heh ... ill pit my $200 Makarov against anything under 1k and walk away smiling. And, come to think of it, a Makarov or similar milsurp is gonna be a lot better made than sccy... your dollars to quality could be better spent elsewhere depending on what exactly your goal is. An old ruger p series will be in the same ball park price and much, much, much better made and almost assured reliability. Like I said, its "a deal", even a pretty good one, but its not the deal of the year or anything. You are still buying a rough gun with your money, no matter how cheap. Dollars do not always mean significantly better quality. It depends. There are 200-300 guns, used and old, that will run circles around a new one that is made on the cheap.1 point

Taxi companies are upset all over the world. I would be too if I had failed to advance into the 21st century and someone beat me to it. And of course the unions have the ear of democrats, and probably some republicans too. So the gubmint has to do something.1 point

I know he's gone, but he has so many out there like him. He thinks training should be required, but free. So then, when the Gov decides to have only one class a year and limit it to 20 people, all of whom donate to the party in charge, how is it said that your rights have not been infringed? And before anyone says "slippery slope" this is essentially what they have done in New York. The permit system we have now is--at BEST--a bad compromise. Hopefully we will get Const Carry before the Dems change the electorate in this state through immigration to one that suits them better.1 point

According to my years of reading about the 1911 the grip safety was a requirement of the Military board, not JMB. The pistol was originally designed for the horse cavalry. As to why, some people have problems deactivating the safety due to hand size or shape. That is why you see most "beavertail" safeties have a bump at the bottom. It was very common for the grip safety to be disabled by gunfighters in the past. I have seen several different ways this has been done, including rawhide wrapped around the frame by one Texas Ranger. Someone can feel free to correct me if they can find another valid statement on this. My memory is not the best. Cheers, ts1 point

Perhaps read the full text of the rule. Maintain a good fellowship with others. Members should treat each other as they would like to be treated themselves. Name calling, flame posts, racial slurs, and other insulting remarks meant to cause conflict will not be tolerated. You should always try to maintain good fellowship with the other members of this community and be respectful to your fellow shooting enthusiasts whether they are new shooters or seasoned veterans. Debate is welcome and encouraged, but you must always stick to attacking the issues rather than the person or profession. Personal attacks, and name calling, serve no purpose in the exchange and debate of good information. Keep in mind that in life there is no guarantee that others will agree with your thoughts or comments. You absolutely must try to handle disagreements, criticisms or opposing viewpoints with tact and maturity. David let the Jade Helm thread go on a lot longer than I would have in his shoes. I'm ex-military and I wasn't offended, just flabbergasted that the whole thing has taken root. I get that there is health in debate on things, but you weren't debating. As I saw it you were just tossing out random links with no independent research or additional commentary provided. Not to mention the day that thread became a bunch of random music via YouTube videos I would have closed it down for irrelevancy.1 point

Maybe new members should read a few threads and posts on TGO before they comment, just a suggestion, not saying make it a rule. They will soon find that members here do not compromise when it comes to our freedoms and the Constitution. We all know the real definition of compromise: is the same as "surrender".1 point

Don't forget to add in all the scalpers with ads on the internet. There are 10 pages of .22 cal. ammo for sale on just Gun Broker. When I say "scalpers" I don't just mean the Walmart group. If you check out these ads, many are from gun shops that would rather sell out the back door at scalper prices then put it on their shelves and compete with Walmart. Just my :2cents:1 point
