Unfortunately we live in a time where there is just too much liability with letting complete strangers come shoot on your property. If I ever have land where I'm able to shoot it will only be for close friends and family whom I trust won't sue me if they accidentally blow their toe off.3 points

Concerning liberals.... We may be the first society in history to completely divorce self-esteem from actual accomplishment and self-worth. So, what happens when little Johnny, who coasted through school being told how "special" he was gets into the real world and starts getting his teeth kicked in on a regular basis because he brings nothing of value to the table? Next thing you know, he's marching at an Occupy protest, demanding government handouts and trolling the comment sections on conservative websites because he doesn't understand why he can't do anything productive with his life despite the fact he's been told that he's gifted. Instead of building a kid's self-esteem, we should be teaching him how to be good at things. Then he'll be of use to himself, his family and his society while building REAL self-esteem in the process.2 points

Ninja, just remember, we're an opinionated bunch, but we're also all right. TGO is a great forum and I hope you'll stick around, learn some more, and when the time comes, teach us something as well.2 points

I agree on an individual level. If I know that member X has a bazillion acres of land, I'd never ask him to let me shoot on it, even if we're neighbors and get coffee twice a week. But to me that personal one-on-one appeal is different than throwing something out to the masses and saying "Wanted: place to shoot near X. Willing to apply sweat equity as needed." The first is directly imposing on a specific person. The second is like putting something on a bulletin board. Maybe you get a call, maybe you don't, but you didn't put anyone in a bad position of having to say "no." I think it's good that you let people know you're without a place to shoot. You won't get an invite if nobody knows you're looking for one. You never know if there's someone on here who needs some help mending a fence and would offer you the chance to shoot in exchange for some free labor. Erik88's right though. I wouldn't expect much of a response due to liability issues these days. But you never know unless you ask.2 points

Might I suggest a membership to Strategic Edge in Chapel Hill? It's the nearest thing you'll get to a private range. Target berms out to 1250yds, no RSOs to pester you, clubhouse, beautifully set up, covered shooting benches, pistol/tactical rifle bays, tv monitored long range targets & golf buggies for target changing are provided. All that + 24/7 access for $150 a year No tannerite allowed though, however a quick, dirty $10 trip to Terry Walden's in Manchester will scratch that itch ;)2 points

I think that's it. The Liberals are loud about everything they want to push down the throat of society. They don't want us to think for ourselves but rather to listen to them, follow them and agree with them. If you don't you're attacked in the hopes they can discredit you or shut you up. So many people today are far to busy to think for themselves about where these policies of anti freedom will take them. They are just persuaded by what they hear and again, that takes us back to the Liberals being so loud about everything they want and they are very willing to lie and use anything, even horrible things like the Charleston deaths to attain their goals. Their lies are seldom rebuked by any of the leaders of the Conservative party and when they are they are quieted by the shouting of the Left.2 points

I find it mildly ironic that the hiring event for a firearms manufacturer is being held in a venue wherein one could not possibly legally carry a firearm made by that manufacturer. Or any other. It's a curse I have for noticing things like this I guess. Still, I'm glad to see Beretta coming to Tennessee and wish them and the job seekers who attend the best. And safety. :)2 points

Me? I'd unload it, turn it in to the cops and let the person explain why they left their gun. I got plenty and don't want something that belongs to someone else.2 points

Congrats on being cancer free! That's huge! With your history, you know how much better being fit will make you feel. Being a bit older than you were the last time, it actually means a lot more because you'll have to work for it. I work out five days a week at the Maryland Farms YMCA, so I definitely know the 'see and be seen' crowd. It used to get on my nerves, but I don't even notice it now. It's worse during certain times of the year where it'll be crowded for a week or so, and then it goes back to the normal crowd. Most of the social types seem to congregate on the tennis courts, so I rarely have to wait for a machine.1 point

The first question on the application after name should be how many pistols do you own.1 point

I bet the Barrett guys go to Strategic Edge now, I haven't seen them there in a while.. When the 107 came out, there was a R&D Barrett guy there sitting by 3 cases of ammo, he told me he shot 2300rds out of that gun without cleaning it, his job was to log rounds and note where and when the first jam occurred.. Hell on another outing there was a Barrett guy shooting FA with a recon 7..1 point

Again, sorry to beat the drum, Strategic Edge allows .50BMG & other over bore calibers. You have to attend a safety class before hand but it's free & again.... 1250yds!1 point

HOLLY CHIT... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Terry-Walden-Gunsmith-and-More/463632530390794 I guess I'm responsible for this, I've shot there for years, I have NEVER been questioned or approached about anything, I can't tell you how many times I've shot my 50 with the factory Barrett guys out there.. :shake:1 point

I've been driving for them and Lyft for a couple months for side income. Risk my safety and my passenger's safety? Especially in these hybrid trendy/ghetto areas in Nashville? Hahahaha Nope. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I agree, I don't see it as a bad thing to let others know you would like a place to shoot, hunt, fish etc. If you have a place and want to offer, then great, otherwise the request goes unfilled. As for the liability portion, (any legal guys/gals here) would a waiver such as many ranges have you sign: https://www.smartwaiver.com/w/5181a265e56d2/web, be sufficient to release an owner of liability? I would think so especially since not a commercial prospect; I know there is a waiver for sporting purposes and such which was recommended if leasing land to hunters, I figure it would be ok for some non-commercial range time as well.1 point

I bought a Magpul BEV block yesterday from Tactical Edge in Clarksville for about $50. Used it to hold my upper while I removed the rail and adjusted the size of the gas ports on my gas block. It did a great job and I like it much more than my old upper receiver vise block. If anyone needs a device to hold an AR upper or lower to work on it, I would recommend this product, but I would wait to find it on sale.1 point

So, last year, legislature enacted the staggered times on the HCP issuance and renewals, to get them to start falling in line with the five year birthday renewal of one's TN DL. And probably there was a fiscal note on this for admin and software and whatnot. I'm sure it was also touted to save money in the long run. Okay. So now, they just passed the new eight year new cycle on TDL renewals. Same deal, claiming 6 million in savings over time. Only in Tennessee. At least we can legally eat our roadkill, always been proud of our lawmakers' wisdom and all with that. - OS1 point

First post and you're asking someone to let you use their land? Then again you mention it in a the New Member Introductions forum. Any lunch and beverage requests to go along with that as well? Mayhaps get to know a few members via interaction here, meet up if we ever get a lunch or dinner scheduled...then try to shimmy your way onto someones land for a free shoot.1 point

I just mounted one. ITS TIGHT! ZERO WOBBLE! :woohoo: In fact almost too tight if you are one of those types who is always making adjustments. There are two flat springs on the inside of the stock that presses against both sides of the receiver extension. Therefore the pressure is constant and does not depend on the lockup of the latch to tighten up the stock. I like it. :up:1 point

Great to have you! I am just now getting into building AR's as well - bought my first AR from a great member here - it's an AR-10 308 Palmetto - having a bit of a tough time getting it to feed the first round, but excited to see a young Nashvillian! I love East Nashville - would love to buy you a beer one day - I've got lots of friends out there. I live in an area with TONS of land to shoot - but have yet to make any acquaintances with anyone who shoots (even though I hear shots all around all saturday)1 point

+1. Plus they're not trying to have a gun show or show off new products. They're looking for serious people to fill highly sought after job positions. That would be pretty hard to do with "Bubba" hanging out at the LGS talking bull about brand "X". Beretta's the oldest company in the world that's still in existence & has been building firearms for 500 years. I'd say they know a thing or two about how to run a business.1 point

I am finally going to get around to building one of these. When I say building I really mean piecing one together as I find time and money. What exactly do I need in here? I know the first thing that I need is a good bag. I have one already but I need some input on what should go in it. I am thinking that I need a way to filter water, water containers, food, ways to make fire, changes of clothes, socks, a pair of boots, bedroll, sleeping bag, ammo, and magazines. This is all that is coming to mind right now. Pictures of your bag and what is in it would be greatly appreciated.1 point

Gosh after reading all the posts I had to go back and read the OP to see what it was about........ thread went a tad off course. Ok according to the post Clarksville is having more shootings and he blames it on to many guns in vehicles and I look back and remember back in High School when all of us would show up for class , you could look out in the parking lot and every pickup truck would have two or more long guns in gun racks in back windows with ammo under the seats and many of the guns were loaded. I know my were and I cannot remember 1 news report of shooting at any schools. my question is at what point in time did all of those good ole days go away. It was still here when I left for Service and when I came back it was all but gone................ :shrug:1 point

I'm thinking they are going to get so many applicants, that there is not a range or gun shop around that could possibly hold them.1 point

You MUST size new brass. It is rarely, if ever, sized new from the factory. They are intentionally left long so people can size them to their individual rifles.1 point

Talking spatula and the best homemade Fathers Day cards that a 11 year old, 9 year old, and a 6 year old could make! The 2 year old just gave me a hug. We ate out twice today, I paid both times! Would not trade it for the world!1 point

What this tells me is that I should start my own taxi service. I'll have my NRA license plate, advertisements on the roof for gun shops and the "coexist" sticker (as seen on this forum) on the rear bumper. I'll have a sign on the dash that says "Forms of payment accepted: cash, credit, ammo" :D Wonder how many tourists I'll get?1 point

Let me get this straight. A driver for they're company who is legally carrying a firearm saves a bunch of people from a nut bag trying to kill people and this is the response. Genius!1 point

definitely a "win win"... how many times have I seen guys at the range... without their wives? Countless. Most of my friend's wives don't have any interest in shooting with their husband/boyfriend. It just doesn't get better than a day at the range with someone you actually like! I don't think she'll conceal carry with it, but it will be the gun that "pulls" her to the range. DaFadda1 point
