  2. Anybody remember what happened on June 6, 1944? I know my Dad did. I guess it's not a big thing anymore. Not even a side note on my inter net home page.

  3.   Thank's for posting the video.   My sister-in-law's Dad was one of the Rangers that scaled those cliffs and was fortunate enough to live through it.    He was one of the most kind and unassuming men I've had the pleasure to have met.   I wish he was still alive to shake his hand again.

  5. Yah d day,it is a big deal to most semi educated Americans who did not sleep through history class. We lost more warriors on that day than we did in the past 10 yrs fighting downrange.... God bless those who made it and those who didn't. That was in the days when Americans cherished the flag and would stomp the crap out of anyone who would desecrate her.. Thanks for posting

  6. Hard to believe it's been over 70 years already.   SUPREME HEADQUARTERS ALLIED EXPEDITIONARY FORCE Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944 ! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world marching together to Victory! I have full confidence in your devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory! Good Luck! And let us all beseech blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking. Dwight D. Eisenhower

Fought through Germany until the end.   I wonder if they will at least show some D-Day movies today.

  12. LaRue is running a sale on their triggers.  $125 shipped maked down from $230.  I don't have any experience with the trigger but I own several of their rifles, mounts, and other gear.  Their stuff is always top notch and their triggers have been getting good reviews.  I just ordered one and figured I'd pass the info on to the next guy.   Below is their advertisement:   http://larue.com/larue-tactical-mbt-2s-trigger   Re: Advertising dollars and launching a new AR product. As many of you know. we've built a World-Class 2-Stage trigger in-house ... our MBT. As with all new items, one must get solidly established in the marketplace. And how is that done - with money. ... The marketing folks said we can go 2 ways ... 1) Throw money into print ads and wait very patiently for effect 2) Divide same money between 1,000 units, subtracting that amount off each one, sell them and let word of mouth do the talking. For this product, we've opted for #2. We know that fathers that follow our company are making some fine kids, so consider this a Father's Day rebate. For Father's Day, we're offering our slicker'n greased owl stuff MBT triggers, and a special MBT version of our renowned LaRue cap in Olive Drab for $125 total ... real close to half off. And we're kicking in a few days of free shipping too. What do we ask in return for this smokin' deal ? We want you to put our MBT trigger into your favorite AR, slap the cap on your head, then head to the range and try it out. That's all. Happy Father's Day, and as always, thanks for helping us hang near the top spot in our industry. Mark and Team LaRue

  13. Magic customGodson Ultimate SNG Damascus Dave sent me these pictures before the show, I saw all of these besides the Magic which I wanted badly but it sold before I got there, these are some of the best looking knives that were at the show, I settled for a carbon fiber inlaid brushed stainless steel frame Magic that I plan on having Dave upgrade it eventually to a damascus blade, these are only a few of what Protech had and almost all of thes high dollar custom knives were sold before I left at 5pm yesterday

  14. Company drill team. Charley Company, 7th Battle Group, 3rd Brigade, United States Army Training Center Infantry, Fort Ord, California. May,1961. Yes, Mildred, those rifles really are M-1's. This was the most fun I ever had in the Army. I'm the skinny 18 year old kid 4th from the front. OK, here's the other one. Same outfit, same drill team, same day, different formation. This one shows the M-1's a lot better than the photo above. My M-1 was a Springfield Armory rifle with serial number 792554, which puts its date of manufacture as 1942. I'm the skinny kid in the front row, second from left. That steel pot was so big on me I always figured that if I went into combat I could throw it down, jump in, and fire from it. We stayed in the 1941 barracks of the Greatest Generation and were largely trained by them. We broke in on all of the WWII weapons - M-1 rifle, M1918 BAR, M1919A4 and A6 machine guns through the end of '61, then transitioned to the M-14 rifle and M-60 machine gun after that. It was really neat to have trained on all of the classic American infantry weapons of WWII, and then to have gone on to a completely new and different generation of weaponry. I liked the M-1 a lot better than the M-14, and the BAR had no peer, but the M-60 had it all over the Browning .30's in my book. The Army came up with a squad automatic rifle based on the M-14 with bipod legs and a pistol grip, but it had such a high cyclic rate of fire and such sharp recoil that it was uncontrollable and didn't last long. Long ago and far away, but I wouldn't take a million bucks for the experience. Fort Ord was the most beautiful training post in the Continental Army Command. They shut it down as a training post in 1976, and it became the home of the 7th Infantry Division. It was eliminated during the big round of base closings that followed - around 1991 or so. Oh by the way, notice how perfect our trouser legs are above the boot? To get those perfect blouses we cut the ends out of coffee cans, slid the cans up our legs, put the boots on and then bloused the pants down around the coffee cans. We wore the gloves for the photos only - they were so slick we couldn't hang on to the rifles, so they were just for looks. Fun. EssOne

  15. I took this photo at the National D Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia in June of 2006. There were 2,500 of these on D Day and I sure as heck haven't forgotten. I spent three years in the Seventh Army in Germany and served with a lot of senior NCO's who were veterans of the war in Europe. They called it the Greatest Generation for a reason.

  20. Well for the last 12 or so years, I have been wanting to go to the Blade show, today it finally happened, I was like a kid in the biggest candy store in this world, I got to meet all the Knife makers that I have been friends with on the internet, it was a pleasure to put a face to all the names I know.   I probably handled more than 500k worth of knives today but restrained myself to only one Purchase I got a very special stainless steel Magic knife from my friend Dave who owns Protech. For those of you who know how special his knives are, let me just say getting to know Dave and his Father today, they are some of the best people that I am proud to call friends.     I am planning on attending all 3 days  next year and will be stashing cash for the show, if any of you are wondering if the trip to Atlanta is worth it let me just say if you like any edged tool on this earth, you will absolutely love it :usa:

  22. Our three pups got adopted today. All have been placed in good homes! :) Very emotional couple of days for us knowing they would be going since they've been with us before birth. My wife has poured her heart and soul into these pups for the last 8 weeks so it's been really hard for her. Mom is still with us at the moment. She has been a great mom to the pups and seems to fit in well with our other dogs. We have grown very attached to her. I'm on the fence about keeping her due to already having 3. My wife wants to keep her so we'll see. If we keep her, it limits our ability to feasibly foster other dogs in the future due to our somewhat limited space IMO. Also, and you guys that have several dogs know what I'm talking about, non-dog people already roll their eyes when they hear we have 3 dogs. They really freaked out when when had the mom and pups for a temporary total of 7. So we're back down to 4 right now. I guess it doesn't matter what other people think so we'll see what happens with keeping mom or not.

  25.   Alot of people don't realize, especially the younger ones that they litterally saved the world. The atom bomb was no secret, Germany and Japan new how to make one, just processing the uranium was the hard part but both countries were working on it. If the allies hadn't bombed the crap out of Germany and invaded France on D-Day, I really believe Germany would have developed a working atom bomb, first used it on London with the V2 rocket, then Moscow and the U.S.. Remember, German u-boats were looking at the lights of New York in their periscopes so they could and did reach the U.S. at the start of the war with America. American might and will and alot of brave patriots prevented that.

  28. The men that stormed the beaches in the morning, and jumped behind them the night before can never be thanked enough.  If they hadn't done what they did, the war in Europe would have been very different.  They literally helped to change the world.       A great speech, and from the heart, but it was on the 40th anniversary when everybody was doing something for D-Day.  What did President Reagan do on the 41st anniversary of D-Day?  That would be a better comparison since this is the 71st anniversary.  Not even a word in The Reagan Diaries for June 6th, 1985 about D-Day.  Just a visit to a school during the day and a fundraiser at night.  A normal day for the President.       71 to be exact.  That's why there isn't a big to-do over this years anniversary, it's not a "celebrating year".  Last year for the 70th anniversary they had a big remembrance, with members of the allied nations on hand for ceremonies, and events like these examples of awesome. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/world-war-two/10878857/D-Day-parachute-jump-89-year-old-perfects-Normandy-landing.html http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/05/world/europe/d-day-paratrooper-jumps-again/   We'll probably see something on the 75th anniversary, maybe the 80th, and of course the 100th.  Then the day will fall into history like every other battle that is only celebrated every 50-100 years.  Sad yes, but that's life.

  32. Close the revolving door at the courthouse. One of those doors needs to lead to prison. You point a gun at someone during a robbery and you should get a bunch of years; first time. And if you shoot someone you never get out. Untie the cop’s hands. Tell them to take down the gangs and stand back and watch. Less “Special Units” and more uniformed cops on the street. Uniformed cops in marked squads are a proven deterrent. When you see a crime or a suspicious person; make the call. In populated areas cops get sent from one BS call to the next. Most of the time they don’t have the time to be proactive; they are reactive. They depend of the community to be their eyes and ears. I’ve seen a lot of bad people take a fall because a citizen witness was feeding information to a dispatcher while the Officers were responding. But most importantly...jobs. Jobs and the economy should be the first questions you should ask anyone that is running for office. And then look in the mirror and ask the same. Jobs won’t stop crime; but they will put a bigger dent in it than anything I can think of. As our economy worsens more Police and Fire will be needed; and they will be added. If you are a property owner you will foot the bill with increased property taxes. There will be new or higher taxes for the rest of you. We The People did this and We The People will have to get us out of it.

  38. Ha.  That happened to a good college buddy of mine.  Had some sorority girls do laundry at his apartment in exchange for them cleaning the kitchen...why sorority girls who pay thousands of dollars a year to be in one, can't pay $3 to do laundry at the sorority house baffles me...but anyways.  I guess they had never loaded a dishwasher before and used Dawn Dish Detergent...needless to say they ended up w/ a much cleaner kitchen floor than they had anticipated.     Did you take pics!?!

  39. Before the TN knife law changed, I never thought I would spend more than $150 for a knife. Now I can't justify spending more for a knife than a gun.
    1 point
  40.   Excellent question.  Short answer:  demand exceeds capacity.  Each knife is individually hand-crafted.  This takes quite awhile and they just don't take any shortcuts in their knifemaking process. The old man, Bo Randall, was a fanatic about quality and I truly believe that same spirit remains in their operation today.    I think they have an interesting history. Randall Made has always been a small, family-owned business.  They really began to be noticed during WWII and the demand for their blades from soldiers, sailors/marines, airmen just took off.  So....over the years demand has just grown to point where today it takes them 4 to 5 years to fulfill a custom order.  The line to get one of these knives is simply that long.
