So I have been going to the stables with my wife for a while now. One of her friends, who is extremely liberal, has a son that normally sits around playing games on his tablet or wanders off on his own to do who knows what. He is a quiet little kid that is really timid but he is well mannered, polite and extremely smart. Well the last few visits to the stable that kid and I have become friends. I have been showing him some different things as well as watching him build dams in a small creek. Then a few visits ago I took him a slingshot but I wasn't sure he would be allowed to have it because of his liberal parents but his mother said it was ok so I let him have it. We spent an hour or two knocking plastic bottles over with it as well as shooting into some water and mud. He got pretty good with the slingshot but before he left that day he said it would be easier with his BB gun. I thought it was odd because his parents are extremely liberal but I guess anything is possible. Well yesterday I was at the stables again and the boy showed up with his "BB gun". I would have never imagined he would have had it in a million years but there he stood with a Knights Armament PDW, Berretta pistol and an HK MP7. He had some cheap scope wired to it, it just flopped around and there is no way it would ever work. I thought to myself how can you expect him to shoot this thing. So I took the scope off and showed him how to use iron sights. I promised him a real scope, that actually works, the next time we meet. And while we were sitting there a few more kids showed up with a BUNCH of plastic guns in their arms. So what I did was spend a couple of hours working with all those kids. And despite some odd looks from parents and other riders I was determined to teach these kids something. So I spent the next couple of hours showing some 10 year olds how to do a combat patrol, how to setup an ambush and the most fun was teaching them how to enter and clear a room. I took my long sleeve shirt and used a couple of brooms tied together to make a target for them to shoot at. And in the end I had them clearing rooms and doing it safely with their airsoft guns loaded and ready. It was fun and honestly they did better than most of the Afghans I have tried to teach. Before it is all over I will try to teach the son of my wife's liberal friend how to clear, disassemble/reassemble and perform a function check on an AK-47. If an Afghan can do it I am sure this smart kid will be able to learn it easily. I will also see if I can convince the mother to let him shoot some guns. At a minimum I will be replacing his single cock airsoft rifle with a full auto because everyone needs a machine gun. It was definitely a fun day for me.23 points

Their modem/router is a pile of garbage. It also comes with default settings to share your wifi out as a hotspot. Send them that garbage back, go to a store a buy a Motorola Surfboard modem and whatever kind of wireless router you want... They make a killing renting people those things, you might as well own a better one for less in the long run.4 points

I recently finished up a new build. [AR-15] I waited on giving it a stenciled finish and I'm glad I did. I knew I might have to tear it down again. It starts life as a Quentin billet lower, Magpul A2 stock and ALG trigger group. Vltor upper receiver, Nickel Boron BCG, Yankee Hill Todd Jarrett rifle length free float tube, Nikon M223 3-12x42SF glass and...my barrel. The subject of this post. I ordered what I WANTED. ...or what I THOUGHT I wanted. A Black Hole Weaponry, 18in, .930 diameter, rifle length gas, 1/9 twist stainless barrel. It was .......pricey. Everything went together and it shot like poop. No, sorry, it shot like f'n sh!t. Sorry, but that's actually appropriate. Here's why. First go 'round, I shot some handloads that have always done well in all my other rifles. My 9 twist CZ bolt action will make clover leafs with any of them. Some 52g Nosler HPBT's, 55g Vmax, & some 70g soft points that are swaged by a fella I know up in Montana. Shotgun patterns! No really. The 70g soft points were not measurable because I only had a 6 inch scale with me. They were well over 8 inches at 100 yards. ...and before the twist rate thing gets brought up, twist rate needs are a function of length not weight and the 70g soft points are swaged from a pretty thin brass jacket and a large ogive. The length of the bullet is only .870, conversely a 55g vmax is about .820. AND, all the lighter stuff shot like poop too. Anyway, maybe I'm a sucky reloader so I broke my sacred vows and bought some factory ammo. Best of (4) five round groups fired from a VERY solid rested position. PPU 69g HPBT match 3.5" @ 100 yards PPU 55g soft points, over 4 inches @ 100 Hornady TAP 55g - 2.8" @ 100 Hornady Varmint Express 40g Vmax - 2.1 @ 100 This BLOWS. SO, today I go back to my local guy. He's AWESOME BTW, he sells TOP shelf knives and AR parts here in town. He's not happy at all and he jerks the barrel out and sticks in another while he deals with BHW on a possible return. He didn't have to, but that's the kind of guy he is. Now i'm running a Black Hole Weaponry, 18inch, mid-length gas, HBar profile, 1/8 twist. MUCH lighter BTW, my GOD it's lighter. LOL! It's also about $75-100 cheaper than the one I had. I couldn't get to my range to shoot on a nice solid concrete bench with my rifle rest and electric golf cart to the 100 yard line. I had to go to a buddy's farm. I stepped off 125[ish] yards because 100 was right in a big ditch. Soaking wet, wearing shorts so my legs were eat up from briars, pouring rain, I had to stand on the back bumper of my Toyota FJ and use a rolled up blanket for rest on the roof of my FJ just to see the target through the weeds. 20 rounds of PPu 55g FMJ......about 2.5 inches. For all 20 mind you. 20 rounds of 70g soft points loaded over 4064 [I forget the charge, that's why I keep good notes.LOL]......right at 2.0 inches. All 20 rounds now, not five round groups that can tell lies. I only shot two groups, I didn't wanna be out there. This was under very crappy conditions. Fat and outta breath by the time I got back to my shooting position. Well rested (me and the rifle  ] it will do exponentially better. A little load development....yeah, there it is!!!!   Moral of this stupid boring story? Money spent doesn't equal results. Buying everything off the top shelf doesn't necessarily give you a top shelf rifle.3 points

Bought a M92 PAP last week and picked it up Friday after work with the sole purpose of filing a Form 1 to SBR. Brought it home and started to refinish the handguards and do some research on some other DIY AK work. I managed to get the pistol stripped down completely other than removing the thread protector and the barrel. Sprayed it down to remove all the grime and grease and re-oiled with a light coat. Refinished the hand guards by cleaning the surface with acetone and applying a light coat of stain and tung oil. After doing my reading I found that tung oil suffices as a stand alone finish, but I think the overall results of what I did are satisfactory. I plan to replace the trigger, muzzle device and add a Stormwerkz sidefolder/Manticore Arms triangle stock. I would like to put a Midwest Industries handguard at some point milled up top for an Aimpoint or Primary Arms micro dot and put a pouch on the stock to round things out. I put a couple of photos below of where I am so far after disassembly/cleaning/reassembly. I will have to disassemlble again to get the receiver engraved with my trust info here in the next few weeks. Thanks for looking and I would appreciate any thoughts/constructive criticisms that you can offer....2 points

So, i'm up early this morning installing this new wifi modem Comcast/Xfinity bugged the crap out of me to order by snail mail and email, even though I don't have any wireless devices. They claimed it would speed up the internet. That would be fine if the modem they sent actually worked. So, I hooked up all connections (correctly) and checked it several times because according to Comcast it's always the customers fault, it's company policy. So, after doing all that and powering it on the phone line blinks and just goes off never to be seen again. The book says wait 20 minutes and I waited 25, no phone. So, I unpluged the power cord, waited 2 minutes and powered up again, phone light on the modem blinks then disappeares into oblivion, no phone. So, I re-installed my old modem and have phone service. New modem, no phone service. Old modem, phone service. So, I am packing up this new modem and sending it back.2 points

You had one of those promotional rates. The fine print had the timeline for it. Depending on if you agreed or not to a fixed period, you can call to negotiate it. I was on the same thing with my service package, but I wasn't locked into anything past the promotional rate. When the raise in the bill came, I called them, told them I wasn't going to pay higher than a certain amount, and they magically found a combination of discounts to get me under that number. This last time they tried to sell me more speed at the higher price, but I told them I live alone, 25Mbps is all I need, and $50 per month before taxes and fees is my limit. Just be firm with what you want, but don't expect them to give you more service or less of a price than you've already had at some point. Renting one of their modems is out of the question. They can't BS me since I actually know the specs of my modem. The Motorola Surfboard I've had since I signed up with Comcast can handle six times the speed I'm paying for right now, so if they ever tried to tell me their lies, I'll call them out on it riki tik.2 points

I fell for the same marketing deal. Finally let them send me their modem to replace one that I owned that was only two years old. I only did it because they insisted the only way I'd be getting the fastest internet speed was with their modem. It came late on a Friday afternoon and I installed it on a Saturday morning. Of course, there was a problem with the install and I had to call customer service over in Pakistan. She pushed some buttons and viola' I had internet. After changing the passwords on all of my wifi equipment I found out that in the far corner of my house downstairs (where we spend a great deal of our time) there was no wifi signal and we were unable to connect our iPads or even the TV for some of our streaming movies. So i just hooked up my old 8 year old Linksys wireless router and plugged it into the Xfinity modem and now I have coverage again. I've not noticed any increased speed for the internet so like you, I'm on the verge of sending this one back to them. Other than the monthly charge for renting their modem, nothing has changed.2 points

Does not matter that the gun never left the holster it was shown and known.... Those kids could have one upped BG by simply calling in to the police that some dude pulled a gun on them for checking in on his overheated dog.... As unlikely as it sounds I know of a guy (good samaritan) who has ended up in jail for little more than this.....2 points

My wife and I have both been working on trying to get in better shape. We have been going for more walks and and eating better and such. A few weeks ago, we saw a guy setup with a telescope with a group of people around him. We thought he was probably a teacher with his class on a field trip Well last night he was back setup and only a few people around so we decided to walk up and started talking with him. Found out he just enjoys setting up his telescope and sharing views of the moon and planets with people. He showed us the moon at 250x which was just stunning. About then Venus became visible so we got to look at Venus as well He told us if we would be around for about the next hour or so, Juniper, Saturn could also be seen. Well we did wait around and got to See both Juniper and Saturn. I put on a 500x for them. You could see the cloud bans on Jupiter and the 4 galilean moons. The moons were in a perfect aline mine as Jupiter was in the bottom of the view and the 4 moons where in a straight line away from the planet. In short, not behind it or across the face of Jupiter. The Red spot seemed to be on the far side so it was not visible for us. Saturn we could see the planet and rings, This was the first time I ever actually looked at the planets with a telescope meant for such. (tried a few times in the past with a gun scope but not the same thing by far.) As the evening was coming to an even, We looked at the moon with the x500. I don't even think I can fully describe the view. It looked better then any pictures I have seen on TV of the moon and he said the view at x500 would be like flying over the moon at 1,000 miles if I understood him correct. You could see some real detail. I am now following him on Facebook.2 points

2015 is officially the year of the AK for me. This year alone I have purchased two Century (CAI) "Iraqi Contractor" Romanian WASR 10's, a 2013 production Century (CAI) Romanian WASR 10, Century (CAI) Romanian RPK AES10B, + a Yugoslavian N-PAP DF. I have another Century (CAI) "Iraqi Contractor" Romanian WASR10 + a Century (CAI) Romanian Draco AK pistol en route to my FFL as I write this. As you can see, I am a fan of the weapon system through + through. At the present moment, I am debating the purchase of a Arsenal SLR107FR but I am stuck on if I should pick the variant with plum furniture or all black. Decisions, decisions! Without further ado, I present to you my humble selection of AK's. I made it out to the range today and it took close to 50 rounds thru the G30 to knock the rust off, I've had so much crap going on I haven't been able to get much range time in the past couple months. I couldn't believe how much my accuracy dropped off in just this little amount of time. Good news I got to put 200 rounds down range with the new G19 and 100 with the G33 and they were such a pleasure to shoot, I would still be there if I hadn't run outa ammo.1 point

This is a custom built off of a Bat MB dual port action, the stock is a Terry Leonard Rosewood with carbon bibber inlets for strength, Jewell BR Trigger and a NF competition 12-55 scope. I've already ordered two more barrels and had sent to be chambered all in a 6 Dasher.1 point

I have heard many people talk about AR Comp, but I never tried it. I finally bought a pound a few weeks ago, and loaded up some test batches to shoot yesterday. I WILL be buying more! I loaded 7 batches, 4 using 69gr SMK and 3 using 55gr Hornady SPs. All 7 were 1" or better groups, but these 3 loads really shined. I may not even do any more experimenting, assuming I get similar results with my next 20 rounds of each load. These are all 5 shot groups, fired through my 18" Wilson Arms stainless bull barrel off a bench using a Caldwell Tackdriver bag (front support, had no rear bag) at 100 yards. 55gr SP, 23.0gr AR Comp, 2.230" OAL 5 shots into 0.661", minus .224 = 0.437" group 69gr SMK, 22.5gr AR Comp, 2.255" OAL 5 shots into .737" minus .224 = .513" group 69gr SMK, 22.8gr AR Comp, 2.255" OAL This actually is the same group size as the 22.5gr load, but the slight increase in powder may have more potential based on the pattern. I am loading up more of these to verify with multiple 5 shot groups, but this powder looks amazing so far. This Wilson Arms barrel is very accurate, and I have shot some good groups before but not had half inch groups with 55gr/69gr bullets and the same powder. Who else here is using AR Comp, any pet loads that you would mind sharing? I may be replacing BLC-2 as my "go to" powder.1 point

I didn't say that. I was only adding to what someone had said. But as stated above, the young members only get to use the guns/toys under supervision. I will admit looking back,, I did lose 90% of my common sense as did the other young airmen I served with while off duty drinking with at least with me it was that way for the the first 4 to 6 years. The very stupid things we did. lucky no one got seriously hurt! But we never played with guns while drinking.1 point

Yep, the wife said, "it sure did cost a lot to do no better than that!" I said, A Lamborghini cost a quarter of a million dollars too, but wonder who would win a race from Maine to California, The Lambo or a Suzuki Hyabusa? I'm betting the Lambo would need a wrench turned somewhere around Nebraska. The Suzuki? Probably not.1 point

When I saw the title I assumed this was going to be about cooking outside, eating with friends, etc. While that might have been an interesting story, the reality was so much better! It's amazing what can happen when an adult takes a little extra time with a child! A friend sent me a link recently to an old Jerry Clower story with a similar lesson that I had never heard before, "Little Red". This isn't a great recording since it sounds like it was recorded from an old vinyl record, but it's still worth the time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R9q4gObQQE If the link doesn't work just search youtube for Jerry Clower and Little Red. Thanks for sharing your story!1 point

Ohh yeah, and another thing I forgot! The NiBo BCG I bought. I was getting some inconsistent ignition at first. The firing pin protrusion was only .022 Minimum spec according to Colt standards [only one I could find] is .028 minimum with .030-.032 being optimum. Turns out, the firing pin was three hairs short. DOH! Cheap fix though and the one I replaced it with put me at .030 exactly, so saith my depth mic. Just cause it's made by reputable folks don't mean you should trust it!!!!!1 point

At different times in my life, I got to see Bob Munden twice. He was amazing...to say the least. I've seen Jerry Miculek once. Also a phenomenal shooter. Just couldn't help making a comparison between the 2. Don't have a clue how that would turn out though. In either case, I'm probably just envious of them.1 point

You can still plug your computer directly into the private modem. If you need more than one port, you can just get a switch like this one for an extra $20. If you don't need wifi, then you don't have to connect it to a wifi router. My private modem cost $70. It basically paid for itself after seven months, and I've had it for a year and a half now, so the savings also paid for my wireless router which cost another $50.1 point

I had to take my Skeeter Bass Boat in for repairs and after dropping it off before hitting the interstate to come home I stopped at a quick stop market to get a bottle of water and my buddy with me a Pepsi. When I came out of the store I noticed that 5 young black youths had kinda surrounded my jeep and buddy inside and of course I had Kasey along. they were poking fun at her and yelling at her and she was barking back at them. When I approached my Jeep 3 of the young men stepped between me and my jeep and were about 10 feet away. I ask them politely to let me pass and one of them said "what you gonna do if we don't"? I saw one of them slip his hand in his pocket. I always wear a cover shirt with only one button closed. I unbuttoned it and opened it up just enough for them to see it and I eased my hand around my model 85 and pulled the hammer back but never removed it from holster. I asked again to back off and let me in my jeep. When the one up front saw I was ready to do what ever it took to get in my jeep they all moved back and began to walk away after they huddled up for a few seconds. I waited till they were a safe distance before moving towards my Jeep. That was were it all ended and I would like to hear thoughts and opinions on if my actions were the right ones? I don't think any of them were much over 14 years old.............................. :shrug:1 point

I try to remember to post this on every Memorial Day, Veterans Day and 4th of July in all the sites I am a member of. Folks have no idea how thrilled I am to see the American people stand up and stand behind our troops with Spirit and Pride. I remember when I cam home and it was another time and era. We were told by our CO's that we may want to change into civilian clothes and not wear our uniforms while flying home on a commercial flight because it might get ugly when you get off the plane. I asked him, "with all due respect Sir, can it be any uglier then the Hell we just left to come home. I wore my dress Blues Home with pride and yea I had to have them dry cleaned after the walk through the airport to my family that came to pick me up. I told them to meet me out front because I didn't want them to see what might and did happen. Now folks know why I am so proud of how our troops are loved and honored today but then I think back. It comes to mind that the mood may have changed because we are the guys who came home back then may have chosen to raise our children better and to be more respectful of out men and women in Uniform.................... :usa:1 point

Not unheard of, if you have a large group of bikes. It is done so all the bikes can stay together and no cars get mixed with the group. It's not right, and shouldn't be done, I never liked it. For that matter I never liked riding in large groups.1 point

The Rossi in .45 Colt gets my vote. 45/70 is a bit overkill in the brush. If youre scooting out to 100 or better, then yeah, use it but inside 50-75 yards, the 45 Colt will get it done. Wish you lived closer. You could come by and we'd cast you up some 340g bullets from a custom mold I had cut. Guaranteed to punch a hole in a pig and make him spew like a hot can of beer!
