  1. I wanted to update this thread by saying that my vintage amp was recovered! Showed up on Craigslist and within the hour I had detectives in an undercover vehicle showing up to arrest the guy! I had my amp back within two hours! Unbelievable! Much thanks to the Midtown Precinct! Great guys! I wish a local paper would cover something positive like this! They really care about the city's musicians and took great care of me.

  3. Any 17 year old who, of his own initiative decides to cut the grass should be applauded. Sounds like a good time to teach him about how to do it right.

  4. I had a crappy week at work and was looking forward to taking it easy today. I enjoy mowing my yard and its very relaxing. Well yesterday I come home to find out this ,, Well first let me say that my 17 year old son is a very book smart son and gets A's and B's which I am very proud of him ! He is in several school and academic clubs which can only be done if you have great grades , again i am very proud of him. But here's where things get FRUSTATING ! ........  I come home from work and find out that he wanted to surprise me and mow the yard. He has no idea about operating certain things and what fuel goes where and so on .  He puts a gallon of my TWO-STROKE fuel into my riding mower . He then mows half my yard on the LOWEST setting possible which skins half of my yard to the dirt !!!! Well he hit several tree roots and it knocked my mower's deck all out of alignment. Then my little girl got out some of my old pieces of steel rebar to use a "sword" to play like she is sword fighting. She leaves it in the grass. My son then runs over it with the mower and it gets all wrapped around the two blades of my mower and destroys he blades and cause more damage to the deck. But I can't get mad at him because the day before this "mowing disaster"  he was at home with my little girl. He noticed some guy walking from the street into our yard. He watches the guy go into the side of our yard and squat down looking very nervous. The guy then goes and jumps up on the porch and bangs on the door. Then the guy bangs so hard that the door is about to bow inward. The guy stays there banging hard and looking in both directions really fast . My son made the appropriate phone calls and gets my pistol and prepares for the worst. Luckily the guy never gets in the house and is scared off. My son did great , protected his little sister and all is great.   So I cant get mad at the big guy   Just doing a little venting for being frustarted that I have to rebuild my mower deck and drain my fuel tank but my son is still awesome and at least he knows what to do when the crap hits the fan.

  5. I'll admit, I'm a j-frame fan. I love the simplicity and reliability. After several thousand rounds of practice, i feel confident in handling and firing this platform. But--i just fell in love again this weekend.... I have a 637 (chief special) that i picked up off a fellow member a this winter. Since the hammer is exposed, i carry this one IWB/OWB most of the time. Given the method of carry, i figured i could get away with something larger than the factory boot grip. I ordered these Hogue Monogrips last week and i couldn't be happier. Accuracy improved drastically and i didn't give up much--if anything--in concealability. In addition to that, i think it looks much better (in my opinion) So i say all that to say this; if you've considered aftermarket grips for your j-frame--do it!

  6. My wife and I have both been working on trying to get in better shape.  We have been going for more walks and and eating better and such.   A few weeks ago, we saw a guy setup with a telescope with a group of people around him.  We thought he was probably a teacher with his class on a field trip     Well last night he was back setup and only a few people around so we decided to walk up and started talking with him.  Found out he just enjoys setting up his telescope and sharing views of the moon and planets with people.  He showed us the moon at 250x which was just stunning.  About then Venus became visible so we got to look at Venus as well   He told us if we would be around for about the next hour or so, Juniper, Saturn could also be seen.   Well we did wait around and got to See both Juniper and Saturn.  I put on a 500x for them.   You could see the cloud bans on Jupiter and the 4 galilean moons.   The moons were in a perfect aline mine as Jupiter was in the bottom of the view and the 4 moons where in a straight line away from the planet.  In short, not behind it or across the face of Jupiter. The Red spot seemed to be on the far side so it was not visible for us.  Saturn we could see the planet and rings,   This was the first time I ever actually looked at the planets with a telescope meant for such.  (tried a few times in the past with a gun scope but not the same thing by far.)   As the evening was coming to an even, We looked at the moon with the x500.  I don't even think I can fully describe the view.  It looked better then any pictures I have seen on TV of the moon and he said the view at x500 would be like flying over the moon at 1,000 miles if I understood him correct.  You could see some real detail.   I am now following him on Facebook.

  8.   This, especially since the OP began, 'wife and i have been trying to get in better shape.".... I was expecting something along the lines of "Dear Penthouse, you'll never believe what recently happened to me."   Congrats to the OP for having some old fashioned good clean fun. I was at an arts and crafts show with the wife a few years ago when one of the guys from the local planetarium had a large telescope set up to let people watch a solar eclipse. It was pretty awesome.

  9. I haven't ever taught him on the mower because we have so many roots here and there that are above the ground . I was too afraid that he would tear up the mower back when he was younger so I have always mowed the yard. But he does know how to use , shoot , and strip down my Glock 17 . So that is good enough for me

  10. Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA? A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

  13. Well I am happy to report that I have passed. You were all right! A big huff over nothing. 100 on my written test and 96 on my shooting. I had pretty excellent grouping at 3 and 7 yard, after that I got squirrelly. All in all an EXCELLENT class with a perfect instructor. I learned a lot and he even gave pointers at the range which helped a lot. Thanks again for all the help and feed back!

  17.     1 Timothy 5: 8 ESV - But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.   I understand that any one verse can easily be taken out of context, but I look at it this way: Just like on a plane, when they tell you in an emergency to put on your own mask before you try to help someone else; your household is your first responsibility, and if you don't take care of yourself and your own household first, how can you have the resources to help others? I'm not saying you need to hoard away a million dollars first, but there's a healthy balance. I know you're not saying otherwise, but in my opinion you have no business helping the neighbor keep from being late on their mortgage if you own children are hungry. Conversely, it is good to sacrifice replacing your 10 year old vehicle if you can help feed a family with a single mom who lost her job.   I  think the exact same goes for larger scale as well. For example, it may be admirable to send foreign aid to an oppressed people in another country, but you shouldn't do that if the country has to borrow money to do it when doing so is risking its own economy, and ability to help in the future, in the process.   I'm not saying this to preach, because I'm sure we all feel the same way. I just felt like sometimes this kind of thing needs to be said so that we don't lose sight of what's really important. Lord knows we get enough of the opposite from our so called leaders nowadays.

  18. OK...received the Zombie TR2 today. WOW! Willis does not deceive. This is an awesome looking knife! His pics do not do it justice. The black scales and anodized black portion of the blade contrast very nicely with the zombie head and the ss portion of the blade. It feels great in hand, and like all the Protech Knives I have and have seen...it fires with great authority and ease. Very smooth movement, and will snap out of hand if you hold it too loosely. I am now out of play money, and will have to forego doing this for a while; but do not regret it at all.

  22. The NRA is not perfect, but they do a lot of good.   I'm not looking for your answers posted in this thread, but I ask this... "If you are not an NRA member, what are YOU doing to help protect our rights?" And yes, there are a lot of other good (arguably better, but not as powerful) organizations out there, too.   What REALLY irritates me is the number of gun owners who do nothing and expect others to do the lifting.   PS.  This post is not directed at anyone specifically in this thread...just a general comment.

  25. Never claimed I was good looking, though I wouldn't expect to be confused for a donkey. Went to a friends today. His next door neighbor has donkeys. Mom and baby donkey were pretty close to the fence, so I walked over and they came and said hello. Dad is across the pasture and starts running over. At first I thought that he must love his carrots, then I noticed that he look mad. The little jerk thought I was after his girl, who was in heat. He mounted her and then looked at me so I would know who's boss.

  26. While I support the good things the NRA does for us in protecting gun rights, all the side BS they put out really irritates me at times.   I just got another mailing from them, this one TEN pages! This one marked registration, starting out "Dear Walt, your decision to activate your no cost member benefits was a smart one!"   Say what? I didn't activate jack diddly. And then it goes on for another eight pages on why blah blah I need their emergency assistance program. But what irked me the most was that in a total of ten pages, there is NOT ONE CONTACT option where I can call, text, or email to ask, "What the heck is this?"   I belong to the NRA to protect our gun rights, but all the "other" mailings get old.

  28.   LOL If I got something from them that fast I'd think it was something I'd ordered previously and forgot about    I've never really been bothered by the wait with them because I never order something I'm in a hurry from PSA. Usually it's only because it's such a good deal I couldn't pass it up, therefore, no urgency. Which by the way, happens a lot, their sales are hard to beat and the regular price ain't bad either.   That said, EssOne, glad yours worked out quick

  29.   I couldn't possibly agree more on every point!   They can't be good at what they do without our money and our membership. I don't give as much as I'd like to be abl to and nowhere near as much as they'd like, but LOVE what they do and support it as much as I can.   Those gun owners out there watching us due-paying NRA members do the lifting are no better than the thousands on welfare that live off the sweat our brows through our taxes.

  34. did you ever take the time to teach him how to properly operate the tractor?  Standing rule here is no matter what, don't touch stuff in the garage without my permission and supervision.   And I know what you mean about mowing, small pleasures.   I wonder what scared the tweaker off?  Sounds like the boy did fine in regards to that.

  35. I think anybody would be proud to have a son like yours.  Book smarts to set him up in life, and protection instincts for his family in a real world situation.  The whole mowing thing is very correctable for a kid that smart.

  37. LuLu's is a fun place and pretty good.   Desoto's is one of my favorites.   A short drive up to Foley and you'll find Lambert's. Not seafood, but you simply have to go there once.   The Shrimp Basket has good seafood at affordable prices.   There's a seafood buffet at Hazel's.   King Neptune's, Tacky Jack's, and Live Bait are some more I'd recommend.

  48. That price for a new logo was absurd.  $46k for what is essentially a 12yr old level of graphic design?  They could have had a held a contest for high school & college students with a $500 gift card as a reward and gotten some decent submissions.   They need to probe hard between who had authorization for that contract and the people of the agency it went to for links.  If this was simple stupidity and not corruption in some way I'll be...well, still pissed, but astoundingly pissed instead of same old corruption pissed.

  49. Careful... I did this once with my friends. They were watching a YouTube video at work watching Jerry M. nailing targets out at 50 yards or somthing. I piped up with "ahh that's nothing, I can hit a coke bottle at 100 yards with my glock 19". Well that was challenge accepted to them. We went out to the cheatam county WMA range that Saturday. I was nervous but didn't have anything to lose besides my Arrogant PRIDE. They placed a two liter coke bottle on the farthest berm. I stepped to the firing line, leveled my gun,and squeezed the trigger. I saw the bottle pop up into the air and the puffy cloud of dirt confirmed what I had claimed. I instantly let out a yell, holstered my pistol and stopped shooting anything beyond 10 yards for the rest of the day.

  50. A friend of mine was carjacked in Chicago a few years back. A guy jumped in passenger side with a knife and my buddy turned off his car pulled his keys and got out leaving the guy sitting in the car. The guy jumped out and ran away. He said he would have done the same thing if the guy had a gun. They don't expect you to exit the car and just leave them sitting there. Better to let them have the car than get shot..................jmho
