I was sitting here a few minutes ago when the phone rang. The gent on the other end of the line was my next door neighbor who asked if we are having a family get together this afternoon. I said "no' and he said: "OK, I just wanted to know before I cranked up my pressure washer and blew off my deck. I didn't want to fire it up if you were going to have folks over this afternoon." Boy, after getting the crap beaten out of us all week by Baltimoregate, Billarygate, copgate, Iranbombgate and all the other gates, that one little act of kindness lifted my spirits and made it all go away. Funny how an ounce of honey can outweigh a gallon of venom, y'know? Yay for honey. EssOne10 points

I have worked 11 straight 12 hour shifts the last two weeks. I got today off and decided to do something special. I left work at 430 am, and fired the forge at 500 am. I'll post up dates to this thread as I work today if you want to follow along. This is when I fired the forge at 500 am Our material for the day. A 1 1/4" jackhammer bit that will be cut and used to make a tomahawk. A small file for a patch knife. A brick hammer for a Pulaski hawk, and a 1/4" leaf spring for a long hunters style belt knife6 points

The Cowboy A modern day cowboy has spent many days crossing the Dakota prairies without water. His horse had already died of thirst. He's crawling along the dusty ground, certain that he has breathed his last breath, when all of a sudden he sees an object sticking out of the ground several yards ahead of him. He crawls to the object, pulls it out of the ground and discovers what looks to be an old briefcase. He opens it and out pops a genie. But this is no ordinary genie. She is wearing an Internal Revenue Service ID badge and a dull grey dress. There's a calculator in her pocketbook She has a pencil tucked behind one ear. 'Well, cowboy,' says the genie, 'You know how I work...You have three wishes.' 'I'm not falling for this,' said the cowboy, 'I'm not going to trust an IRS genie. "What do you have to lose? You've got no transportation, and it looks like you're a goner anyway. The cowboy thinks about this for a minute and decides that the genie is right. 'OK! I wish I were along side a lush spring with plenty of food and drink. ***POOF*** The cowboy finds himself beside the most beautiful spring he has ever seen, and he's surrounded with jugs of wine and platters of delicacies 'OK, cowpoke, what's your second wish? 'My second wish is that I was rich.....beyond my wildest dreams.' ** *POOF*** The cowboy finds himself surrounded by treasure chests filled with rare gold coins and precious gems. 'OK, cowpuncher, you have just one more wish. Better make it a good one!' After thinking for a few minutes, the cowboy says, 'I wish that no matter where I go, beautiful women will want and need me.' ***POOF*** He was turned into a Tampon Moral of The Story : If the U.S. Government Offers To Help You, You Can Bet There's Going To Be A String Attached !!!6 points

Watching some of the coverage of the demonstrations after the riots I actually became more irritated with many of the reporters covering it than some of the demonstrators. I say demonstrators because they wern't officially rioting at the time but still taunting the police after curfew. The reason I got irritated with the media is when reporters were asking questions from the demonstrators they would never let them finish what they were saying, not even get partially done. It doesn't matter if I agreed with what they were saying, if they ask a question then at least let them answer it. The reporters, several, stopped them in mid sentence just to add their opinion, they just don't have the ability to shut the hell up for 30 seconds. Now I don't defend or approve of what the rioters are doing or did but I was waiting to see one just punch one of those reporters in the mouth. They are there to report and interview, not comment, ask a question and get an answer weather you don't like the answer or not.4 points

Since those who are the most stridently anti-Islam are usually religious in their own right...anybody who participated in, or supports this event looses all credibility if they get upset or insulted when someone pokes fun, or degrades Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Scientology, Jedi...whatever shoe fits. If Islam is fair game for ridicule, so is every other religion.3 points

Part of me thinks the attack plays right into the aims of its organizers. Not saying they were hoping to become the target of an attack, but it definitely give them a "told you so" moment. The left isn't the only one to use a crisis to further their aims.3 points

I got this idea from a link that another TGO member (thanks NoBanStan) sent me. So, I had to try it and they turned out pretty good, IMO.2 points

This is the first thought that I had. I don't think we should live in fear of drawing political cartoons, but there is also consequences for actions, and sometimes common sense should be exercised for the interest of safety.2 points

Good single malt comes from overseas, is very expensive, and is NOT Johnny Walker. Glevlivet is a decent place to start. When you're ready to step up, give Aberlour a try. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I bet you're fun at parties. :D Here's the bottom line, Chief... the listing was for more than I owe on it. I lost my ass with that house to the tune of about $60K in equity gone *POOF* in the blink of an eye when the market crashed a few years ago. The neighborhood which was once all "owned" homes is now mostly rental. It's clawed its way back up to where it is now and if I can sell it to an investment group for more than I owe, and get out of it without having to make any repairs... guess what I'm going to do. I'm not going to sweat a frickin moment of it not being maximum dollar. :lol:2 points

Well, I think a lot like OS. If I have a bunch of punks planning on beating on me and I have half a chance I will make myself equal to them and begin popping caps. These kids are brave till caps pop and then they are running for their lives like the cowards they are. They think there is power in numbers and I agree. The more rounds my magazine will hold the more power I have. I'm far to old to allow a bunch of punks to beat on me............ :rant:2 points

This keeps happening when the city leaders ie, Mayor,Chief of Police, etc. get on TV and say they don't know what to do with these kids. This will keep going and sooner or later somebody is going to shoot these punks. Then Momma will be on the news calling for the head of the shooter.2 points

When those other religions start encouraging their followers to kill everyone that doesn't believe in their prophet, then we'll talk. Yes...I know that has nothing to do with their protected right to practice their religion of choice. ...No, I don't care. Call me whatever you like, but I don't give 1 farts worth of care about their freedom of religion as long as there is still one of them breathing and preaching that all whom don't follow allah should be killed. I do not believe in allah.1 point

I think you're right. Not a good idea. With that said, there is NO excuse for violent criminal behavior. Seems like there are all kinds of folks making those excuses these days. If they held an event to make fat jokes about your mama, would you roll in and shoot the place up? I'm betting the answer is no.1 point

And crappy ones should just disappear. I have two neighbors that are the worst people I have ever met. One neighbor is my father and mother. I would not piss on either if they were on fire because of everything they have done to my son, my wife and me. They are miserable people who are jealous of anyone who they think is doing better than them. And when they become jealous they do what they can to grief those they are jealous of. I have seen my father call various government agencies to tell lies about neighbors in an effort to get them in trouble. He is an abusive drunk and my mother is the perpetual victim who tells lies constantly to try to garner sympathy. Problem is the lies she tells often affects those she tells lies about. Both have stolen from my wife and I as well as tell anyone who will listen that we attack them despite the fact we have not had any contact with them in over 5 years. The other is a drunken, mouth breathing, knuckle dragging inbred fuck stick who's parents were obviously very closely related. He was the one who came on my property and started cussing with kids present then cussed at my wife when she told him to leave. He said we should not be shooting and said he was going to call the cops to tell them I was shooting illegal machine guns. Since then he visits his property and shoots guns thinking it will bother me. He tells neighbors that I tried to kill him and that the bullet barely missed his head. He also told the neighbors I was shooting at the neighborhood kids as they walked home from the bus. He also sits at the end of our drive honks his horn and squeals his tires because we put a gate up so he can't drive onto our property.1 point

Which is what most concerns me in this prosecution. If she has/had a remotely solid case on one or more of the defendants then her actions have weakened the chances of conviction. Make no mistake if an officer involved in this mess had actionable criminal charges then I'm solidly behind due process and letter of the law. As has been said what remains to be seen is what evidentiary material has yet to be released.1 point

Thread drift and why I'll always have an affinity for the HiPower... Starting when I was about 15, I kept my dad's Browning HiPower loaded (cocked and locked) under my bed. My dad was aware of this and trusted me not to be an idiot (at least when it came to guns...girls were a different matter). In that same bedroom, I had one of those glass-faced gun cabinets with my hunting shotguns and rifles, with ammo, since I was about 12. Different times. Can you imagine that today and what the media / LE would say? Especially post-Columbine? Before that, when I was a little boy, my dad had a rule. I could touch / play with any of his guns, anytime, as long as I asked him first. I never violated that rule. I violated a lot of other rules, but the gun-thing / gun trust was important to me. It was like a window to adulthood not to be messed with. My dad has been dead for almost two years now, and we didn't always get along later in life, but he was a Vietnam Infantry Vet (regular infantry...not SF or ninja type) who instilled a lot of good things in me.1 point

Well, if she doesn’t have the proof for the charges she is bringing; she’s done as an SA. She would be doing what she is accusing the cops of doing and according to her that is criminal.1 point

I bought an MVP in .223 when they first came out; but it’s not the LR. It’s a tack driver at 100 yards with a Nikon BuckMaster 6X18X40. I haven’t shot it any farther than that because I haven’t had it with me when I was at places where I could do so. I have a Remington 700 VLS in .308 for that. I sure wish mine had that picatinny rail. However, 1k? No way. I can put my MVP and VLS side by side and anyone could tell the difference in build quality and the feel of the action and the Remington was $850. Hanging a pillar bedded stock on $500 rifle doesn’t put it in the $1k category. If you are looking for a long range rifle (500+) I would stick with the proven performers like Remington 700 and Savage in .308.1 point

I don't know how much more the VA offer was, but you likely would have had to shell out money to make a lot of silly repairs, so it would have been a wash. And, there would be countless headaches and delays waiting on the VA. The Investors are going to give you your asking price, which is probably more than what you were willing to negotiate down to anyway. To me that would be a win.1 point

About 12-13 years ago, when there was that initial influx of Israeli FN HiPowers, I bought one pretty cheap. Typical cop gun...looked like hell, but the internals were great (carried a lot / shot little). Anyway, I sent it to Jim Garthwaite ( www.garthwaite.com ) for a trigger job w/ mag safety disable, "commander hammer," extended thumb safety, refinish, and new sight install. What returned was a different gun. It was beautiful. I was a dumbass for selling it...1 point

The standard defense round for a .357 mag is 158 gr. JHP. What are you going to put in your 9mm that will compete with that? Velocity is only one factor; you must also apply surface area and mass. If you like the fact that a 9mm doesn’t recoil as much as .357mag and costs a lot less to shoot; that’s what you should use. If you want a powerful round; you can do that with the .357 LCR. If you want a round that’s easier for you to shoot; you can also do that with the .357 by shooting .38’s. The .357 LCR has more versatility, doesn’t use moon clips, and is more powerful; so it gets my vote.1 point

On a completely unrelated note......does anyone want to buy an M9 or an M16-A4? No bill of sale needed. In fact, no paper work at all on these, I just need them to disappear. I have them in the back of my new Hummer if anyone wants to see them today. Also, the Hummer is for sale.1 point

Yep...ants here too. We typically use Borax to make super cheap ant bait: http://www.instructables.com/id/Kill-household-ants---Super-cheaply/ For a few hours...you will see A LOT of ants running to and from the bait. Later, you won't see any. We usually have to do this several times a summer. We've had good success with it.1 point

I was born and raised in Memphis, and the problems in that city have been going on since before the cobblestones were laid on the riverbank by the slaves. Nothing will ever change there. Memphis is doomed like Detroit. There's not really much hope due to the racism on both sides.1 point

Integration is the problem. The schools were doing fine in black and white neighborhoods until the government forced busing on them in the early seventies. There was neighborhood pride all over the city, parents knew the teachers and the school admin could still beat the tar out of you when you became disruptive.1 point
