One of the guys I made good friends with training last year decided he wanted an axe similar to one carried on the show Vikings. So this is what u came up with. This was my first day off in 3 weeks and I worked 5:00 pm to 5:00 am, then drove straight from work to the shop and forged this out. Mild steel body with a forge welded 5160 bit. Apps 4 lbs. 9.5" Long point to point, 29" handle Forge welded eye Hot cutting the leaf spring for the bit. The finished product and one tired blacksmith. I call her the Gavel of Ragnarök since that will be the judgment of the Gods.8 points

My children will be relieved when they read this. The Explanation Brains of older people are slow because they know so much. People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains, scientists believe. Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full, so, too, do humans take longer to access information when their brains are full. Researchers say this slowing down process is not the same as cognitive decline. The human brain works slower in old age, said Dr. Michael Ramscar, but only because we have stored more information over time. The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more. Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. It is NOT a memory problem, it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise. SO THERE!! I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names. So, please forward this to your friends; they may be my friends, too.7 points

I sure do enjoy every frustration they have to endure. The war on guns really sucks. But watching them lose is kinda fun.5 points

This has been in the works for 2 years now. I bought all the parts & it was put together by a really good friend of mine in Florida, Shane Thomas. It's based (loosely) on a 1740s style French Fusil de Chasse. Usually a smoothbore gun, I had this built as a .62 caliber rifle. The barrel was special ordered from Colerain with a 1:60 twist & round bottom rifling. The maple for the stock was ordered as 'plain' Yeah...you can see how that turned out! I had the barrel mounted with a hooked beach & wedges, rather than the correct pins, because I actually use my guns & I wanted the ease of cleaning that an easily removable barrel allows. I've only shot a couple of light loads (80gn FFg) so far & it shoots as well as it looks! I'm off to the range tomorrow to start working on a load & adjust (file) the sights as required!4 points

This is what Roman does when my wife is acting up or doesn't give him a treat. As soon as I walk in, he jumps in my lap and tells on her! "Dad, seriously, it's about time you got home from work. She is NOT behaving!" Love this big feller!!3 points

The pistol grip shotguns, at least in 12 gauge, are hard to control after the 1st shot. I get followup shots off much quicker with a full stock. #4 Buck is good, and I've read that #1 is better for penetration, but it's harder to find. I'm only gonna clear the room I'm in. The cops can do the rest.3 points

I wasn't trying to go cheap, but at the price, I couldn't pass it up. Finished the assembly tonight. Anderson lower, $63 OTD from Buds. PSA rifle build kit from Easter, PTAC upper, 16" midlength gas system, 1/9 twist. PSA Freedom lower build kit. $387 delivered. I haven't decided what to do about sights/optics.2 points

Not sure if this is the right place to put this thread but was just curious what everybody uses for targets. Whenever I shoot I'm with at least one of my kids and I try and make it interesting and challenging. Our latest idea involves soda cans. We tie some string between to tree limbs and then use the tabs on the cans to hold them in place. Like so..... We'll also do some excercises where we'll call out a brand to hit and the shooter has to identify the right can and aim quickly. With teenagers in the house, soda cans are plentiful and the hits are easily seen. Although it's difficult to adjust your aim since misses aren't visible. Anyway, we enjoy it and I was wondering if anyone else had creative target ideas as well. Steve2 points

What an Honor I have the distinguished honor of being on the Committee to raise $50,000,000 for a monument to Hillary R. Clinton. We originally wanted to put her on Mt. Rushmore until we discovered there was not enough room for two more faces. We then decided to erect a statue of Hillary in the Washington , D.C. Hall of Fame. We were in a quandary as to where the statue should be placed. It was not proper to place it beside the statue of George Washington, who never told a lie, or beside her husband William J. Clinton, who never told the truth, since Hillary could never tell the difference. We finally decided to place it beside Christopher Columbus, the greatest Democrat of them all. He left not knowing where he was going, and when he got there he did not know where he was. He returned not knowing where he had been and did it all on someone else's money. Thank you, Hillary R. Clinton Monument Committee P.S. The Committee has raised $2.16 so far. Out of date stamps are acceptable. Bus tokens are not. Food Stamps .....maybe. Mexican passports are valued at $.05.2 points

Modern autoloading rifles are much, much better for this sort of thing, but if you insist on the shotgun (or it's all you have, I've been there), please: Forget about the pistol-grip only guns. Hits stop fights, and at the kind of range you can reliably git hits with a PGO gun, you'd be better off with a bayonet. Seriously. At anything past bad-breath range, PGO shotguns suck. Don't use any shot smaller than #1 buck. Anything smaller CANNOT reliably be counted on to penetrate flesh deeply enough to incapacitate the human attacker. If it won't penetrate drywall, how is supposed to keep someone from killing you? Commit to serious training. The shotgun, especially the pump shotgun is THE HARDEST SMALL ARM WITH WHICH TO LEARN HOW TO EFFECTIVELY FIGHT. Buy cheap birdshot by the case and practice loading, shooting, and loading more. The shotgun starts every fight low on ammo, if you aren't actively engaging targets you should be stuffing shells in. Buy/make dummy shells and practice loading some more. As for which gun... try some and see what you like. The Benelli Nova and 870 are my pumpguns of choice. The offerings from Mossberg, Winchester, probably others are just as good... there's a lot of personal preference involved. Same with pistol grip shoulder stocks. I always recommend the shortest LOP stock you can find... shotgun stocks are almost always too long. If you need extra length, ad a recoil pad like the Limbsaver.2 points

I did the same thing. I had a Ruger SR1911, but after firing BigK's 97 I was sold. I love Rugers but I had it sold off and bought a 97BD just a few months later. The felt recoil is much less and I was a lot more accurate with it. I am also a huge fan of the deckocker. All of my CZ's are decockers with the exceptions of my 82 and Shadow which unfortunately is only available with a safety. I REALLY want a stainless CZ but they don't come in a decocker model so I'll have to wait. I asked them about that at the NRA convention and their reply was that they had too many models already.2 points

IMO home defense is much different than military/police purposes. In many civilian uses shoot-thru is a major consideration which has to be balanced with effective stopping power. I contend that 450+ grains of lead is pretty effective at a reasonable inside the home distance of generally 10yds or less. I trust a load of #4 shot at that distance to stop most anything.1 point

Well here's mine. Well, actually it's my brothers I have at my house. He bought it in the late 70's, it came sporterized like this, stock chopped, barrel shortened and new front sight, bolt handle bent and no matching numbers. It's a shame it is not in original condition but it shoots fairly well for a rifle made in 1918. 1 point

As a Ca native I can say been there, done that, I'll pass on the T-shirt. These changes amount to back door registration in the worst case scenario and an expensive, wasteful violation of privacy in the best case. Screw that. As far as it "not being a big deal" to head down to an FFL and go through a BGC to loan or borrow a weapon or give or sell one to a friend or relative, my thoughts are: 1. If it's not a big deal to do it, it must not be a big deal NOT to do it. Screw it. 2. Screw that. 3. I wonder how many FFLs are in the immediate area? I guess if theres one on every block, anyone wishing to do so may in fact find out "it's not a big deal". My guess is that they are fewer and farther between that deputies. Screw that. 4. What does the state pick up out of this, and what are the FFLs picking up out of this? In CA a private sale costs you $35 to commence with I believe $20 to the state and $15 for the FFL. Sounds great huh? "Want to borrow my gun pal? That'll be $70." Screw that. 5. I hate to bring up my old nemesis logic, but it stands to reason that people who felon for a living are not likely to give two slices of excrement about breaking another law. The only ones who will are law abiding citizens. Screw that. It sucks that an elected official has to tell his people he can't follow through with something for lack of funding, and thats probably an honest part of his stance, but in this particular case I'm glad they can't afford to do it. Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed today but screw a whole boatload of that.1 point

For everyone one of your friends that are “good guys” there are people that think they are bad cops because their interaction didn’t go exactly the way they thought it should. Some people aren’t going to like anyone in a position of authority whether it is a cop, school teacher or supervisor at work. Compare it to being part of the HCP or firearm enthusiast group. A very large group of people hate you. They don’t think you are qualified to carry a gun in public and they will jump on any action by any gun owner to use as an example to try to stop people from carrying or even own guns. Look at the cross section of the people you know and work with. Most are good people but I’m sure you know some that you wonder how they find their way to work. You will find the same in a cross section of cops. I know and worked side by side with a lot of cops. Most good, some bad. Some were good cops that made a minor mistake, let a person with an agenda see that mistake and my god the world is coming to an end. If you start searching for cops that do bad things; you won’t have any problem finding the stories (even if they are made up). If you start searching for gun owners that do bad things; you won’t have any problem finding the stories (even if they are made up). The worse the cop sentiment gets; fewer good people will want to be cops and the problem will get worse. Just like your statement "Officer Kick Your Door Down and Search Your House Just because". I doubt that has happened to you or anyone you know personally. I have never seen a cop kick a door without cause (yes, I’ve seen it on the internet; I’m talking real life) I have seen cops kick doors and forced entry on more than a few occasions myself. Every one of them was justified; but I’m pretty sure someone is under the mistaken impression I violated their rights. I’m sure the changing laws also have a lot to do with it. When I started we were constantly being sent on “Family fights”. We were social workers and marriage counselors. We decided if there was truly a criminal situation or just a family issue that needed to be worked out. Then our discretion was taken away and if we went on a “Domestic Violence” call and anyone made any claims of threats or violence; hook them up and take them to jail. Same thing with DUI. Years ago if a cop stopped you and you had been drinking he had discretion; arrest you, call someone to come and get you or call you a cab. That is not the case today. If you are stopped now and are drinking the options are; ask you to submit to a BAC test, if you pass, send you on your way, if you fail or refuse; arrest you. I’m not saying Domestic violence or DUI isn’t a problem and those people shouldn’t be arrested. But the chances of those things being “borderline” and ending in anything other than an arrest are slim. And that is not the cops doings.1 point
