I've heard several times that it's not smart to mess with an old man. When they're too old to fight and too slow to run, their only option is to kill you.6 points

One time I was directing traffic at a very complicated intersection when I saw an old man toddling out into the intersection on the green light. He only got about twenty feet into the crosswalk when a guy in a big Lincoln stopped in front of him, completely blocking the crosswalk. The old gent, walking with a lot of visible pain, left the crosswalk to walk around the front of the Lincoln, and when he got about dead center to its hood, he turned to face the driver and started beating the living hell out of the Lincoln's hood with his cane. Bystanders cheered the old man and engaged in wholesale flippoffery towards the Lincoln driver. What did I do about it? Well, I figured that if the old man smacked that Lincoln thirty or forty more times I might just have to ask him to quit, but he quit on his own and toddled off. The light changed and I never saw the Lincoln or the old guy again. Made me proud to be an American.5 points

Keep in mind that purchases for family members and truthfully anyone as long as it is being "GIFTED" is completely legal and is not a straw purchase.... Many sellers seem to fail to realize this and try to put the brakes on an otherwise 100 percent legal action...3 points
-
A Straw Purchase is a criminal offense. It is as hard to stop as any other crime. But it is usually harder to prove until another crime has been committed. If criminals want guns; they will get them. They will walk up and take them or they will wait until you are not home and they will kick your door in and take them. I’m not against background checks I just don’t think they stop criminals from getting guns. They are more about politicians saying “At least we are doing something”, and putting cash in gun dealers and the state pockets.3 points

Oh I knew it was legal but it was for him using his own money and I decided to do father/son builds while we was looking. His Mine We finished them in January and was a good experience for the both of us. He bought and built 90% of the parts himself. Me and his mother surprised him with the magpul furniture. He's got a few learning disabilities but I wouldn't trade him for another and the efforts of studying on how to build it piece by piece was good for him.2 points

I got accused of trying to have someone do a straw purchase for me last year. I was at a gunshop with my step son who had just turned 21 (kinda hard to say step since I've raised him since age 2) and was helping him pick out a lower for his first AR build and I was being real picky looking them over and the guy cued in and started getting nervous. I solved that when I said he wants that one and I want this one ring us up lol.2 points

As a Ca native I can say been there, done that, I'll pass on the T-shirt. These changes amount to back door registration in the worst case scenario and an expensive, wasteful violation of privacy in the best case. Screw that. As far as it "not being a big deal" to head down to an FFL and go through a BGC to loan or borrow a weapon or give or sell one to a friend or relative, my thoughts are: 1. If it's not a big deal to do it, it must not be a big deal NOT to do it. Screw it. 2. Screw that. 3. I wonder how many FFLs are in the immediate area? I guess if theres one on every block, anyone wishing to do so may in fact find out "it's not a big deal". My guess is that they are fewer and farther between that deputies. Screw that. 4. What does the state pick up out of this, and what are the FFLs picking up out of this? In CA a private sale costs you $35 to commence with I believe $20 to the state and $15 for the FFL. Sounds great huh? "Want to borrow my gun pal? That'll be $70." Screw that. 5. I hate to bring up my old nemesis logic, but it stands to reason that people who felon for a living are not likely to give two slices of excrement about breaking another law. The only ones who will are law abiding citizens. Screw that. It sucks that an elected official has to tell his people he can't follow through with something for lack of funding, and thats probably an honest part of his stance, but in this particular case I'm glad they can't afford to do it. Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed today but screw a whole boatload of that.2 points

Korean taxis are wild. I know the official reason for the color code is to indicate the niceness of the cab, but I think it really means how fast they go. Silver = hyperspeed. Black = Ludicrous speed. Out in the countryside and see a blue one? DO NOT GET IN THAT THING!!!!! I think the bus ride up a wet, narrow, muddy mountain road to Baguio, Philippines takes the cake for me. Guardrails? What are those? More than 30 years later, I still find bits of seat cover when I crap.2 points

For everyone one of your friends that are “good guys” there are people that think they are bad cops because their interaction didn’t go exactly the way they thought it should. Some people aren’t going to like anyone in a position of authority whether it is a cop, school teacher or supervisor at work. Compare it to being part of the HCP or firearm enthusiast group. A very large group of people hate you. They don’t think you are qualified to carry a gun in public and they will jump on any action by any gun owner to use as an example to try to stop people from carrying or even own guns. Look at the cross section of the people you know and work with. Most are good people but I’m sure you know some that you wonder how they find their way to work. You will find the same in a cross section of cops. I know and worked side by side with a lot of cops. Most good, some bad. Some were good cops that made a minor mistake, let a person with an agenda see that mistake and my god the world is coming to an end. If you start searching for cops that do bad things; you won’t have any problem finding the stories (even if they are made up). If you start searching for gun owners that do bad things; you won’t have any problem finding the stories (even if they are made up). The worse the cop sentiment gets; fewer good people will want to be cops and the problem will get worse. Just like your statement "Officer Kick Your Door Down and Search Your House Just because". I doubt that has happened to you or anyone you know personally. I have never seen a cop kick a door without cause (yes, I’ve seen it on the internet; I’m talking real life) I have seen cops kick doors and forced entry on more than a few occasions myself. Every one of them was justified; but I’m pretty sure someone is under the mistaken impression I violated their rights. I’m sure the changing laws also have a lot to do with it. When I started we were constantly being sent on “Family fights”. We were social workers and marriage counselors. We decided if there was truly a criminal situation or just a family issue that needed to be worked out. Then our discretion was taken away and if we went on a “Domestic Violence” call and anyone made any claims of threats or violence; hook them up and take them to jail. Same thing with DUI. Years ago if a cop stopped you and you had been drinking he had discretion; arrest you, call someone to come and get you or call you a cab. That is not the case today. If you are stopped now and are drinking the options are; ask you to submit to a BAC test, if you pass, send you on your way, if you fail or refuse; arrest you. I’m not saying Domestic violence or DUI isn’t a problem and those people shouldn’t be arrested. But the chances of those things being “borderline” and ending in anything other than an arrest are slim. And that is not the cops doings.2 points

Fred, the Pescador is built on the same mold as the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 12. The Pescador is a couple hundred bucks less, but the features in the Tarpon are way better. The seat alone is worth the price after a full day on the water. I was in a Moken 14 for a while, which was great offshore boat. I just bit the bullet and stepped up to a Hobie Pro Angler. We've got a veritable stable of boats and paddle boards at our house that see a lot of use. Part of the reason for that is introducing new people to the water. I'll extend the offer to any Benefactor in good standing to try any of them out any time.2 points

I've had this Matrix Aerospace lower built for months, and actually built several rifles while saying "Gonna finish the pistol next" every time I finished another rifle. LukeE got a kick out of me telling him that several times :) I bought the buffer tube off a guy at work, so can't remember the name of it, but it's nice enough. Upper is 10.5" PSA upper, Radical Firearms BCG and BCM Mod4 CH. Grip is Magpul K2. I picked it because several people on here and other forums said they liked them on pistol setups. I'll figure out if it will stay after I shoot it a few times. Still needs a rear sight and I'm gonna figure out what kind of red dot to run. I imagine smaller the better. Any of y'all just run irons on the pistols? I assume without being able to brace it (if I had a Sig Brace when you could shoulder them) irons may be harder to shoot with on pistol setup. But I think someone said we are still okay legally speaking to shoulder the buffer tube as of now, that correct? To me it seems almost as short in my hands as I figured the 7.5" would have seemed. I really like it and can't wait to shoot it for the first time.1 point

http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/local/story/2015/apr/17/gang-members-testimony-marks-culture-change-f/299214/ The important bit: She said there was probable cause to support the state's assertion that Smith went to East Lake Courts to kill Allen. "Not only do I believe that you went there prepared, you had chambered one [round], so you were ready to carry that out in a very prepared manner," Statom said. While the case is a blatant one of gangsta murder and typical hood violence, this comment indicates that simply having chambered a round might be sufficient to prove premeditation ... I don't really like that ....1 point

It certainly fills your hand. And feels great in the hand. It carries VERY well. One big problem though, I now want more ProTechs and these puppies aren't cheap lol. May have to pick up a Runt or Sprint for a smaller carry.1 point

No doubt this is in response to s minor rant from the other day. The Benefactor box had a nice HCP badge in it and someone took it out. Personally I feel it is borderline impersonating an officer to display a badge. To me it all depends on how they look and dress. An older, bearded guy that is overweight with coveralls will not be mistaken for an officer while young clean shaven man, that looks fit, dressed in 5.11 clothing with their pistol on their side and a HCP will easily be confused for an officer. Those that feel the need to wear a badge while wearing cop garb have crossed over that line IMHO. I seen a gentleman wearing a shoulder holster the other day. My wife and I had a bit of a chuckle over it but in the end I will support his right even though it is not something I would do. I will say I do not like being around others that wear shoulder holsters because the muzzle points right at the person behind them. There are some who carry to impress or to try to get respect rather than for self defense. I am talking about those that carry a firearm that is not even close to being capable of use for self defense. Saw a guy carrying in Walmart. He had a single action revolver on his hip and it was obvious he was one of those "hey look at me" types. What he was carrying was a Ruger Blackhawk in 44 magnum but that did not make me think he was carrying for attention. What did was the fact the pistol had a barrel that was at least 12" long and it was in a holster like you would see in an old western movie. Pretty sure he had it tied off around his leg like most "gun fighters" do in the movies. The holster embossing on the leather and had spare cartridges in the loops in the belt. And that setup was nothing more than a means to draw as much as attention as possible. The caliber is way to powerful to be used in a populated area and gun was way to big to draw easily.1 point

The difference here, however, is that law enforcement goes through a far greater screening process than civilian employment. I have never had a civilian employer administer a psychological test let alone have me undergo a psychological screening performed by a psychologist. This is why I think it's not valid to compare the frequency of dipsticks in the civilian world to law enforcement.1 point

I don't always open carry but when I do I always use my Uncle Mike's nylon tactical holster and a clip my "concealed carry permit holder" badge to my belt. Most people just assume I'm a cop.1 point

Nope but I can think of one SD member who would be glad to let you try his... if he can get his wife to give it back for an hour or two... just ask me & we can make it happen. Mine has no decocker and is converted to SAO but the feel of shooting it SA is the same as shooting the DA/SA in SA mode.1 point

Indeed, fantastic movie. Given the option, I'd much rather have subtitles than over-dubbed. Crouching Tiger is one that immediately comes to mind as being horrible when over-dubbed.1 point

Congrats on the build. I just finished my first pistol build last week and got that same PSA upper (great price, couldn't pass it up.) I used a MOE hand guard, Phase 5 Tactical HEX buffer and tossed on a Sig SBX brace. Just need optics. I'll post a picture here in a bit.1 point

I just think that open carry is another word for open target, "shoot me first" in a robbery or just an open invite to have someone try and take the gun such as in this report. Had the bad guy landed a good head shot with the bat he would have possibly killed the guy and got his gun at the same time....................jmho1 point

My Dixie Chopper has about 1100 hours. I bought it used at 590 hours. Its been a great mower but at 1000 hours I had to replace spindle bearings, PTO clutch, and reseal a wheel motor. I did all the work not terribly complicated. Local dealers will try to bend you over for parts but online shopping isn't bad. I'd love to find the old Suburban Turbine Dixie Chopper. 72" cut, twin 20 HP motors.1 point

I will second the Hustler Fastrak. I have a 54 in h with a 26 hp V twin Kawasaki. I had a Gravely before it and liked it but the Hustler seemed to have the right weight distribution. The Gravely seemed a little front heavy and wouldn't get much traction in damp conditions. I love my hustler.1 point
