I've heard several times that it's not smart to mess with an old man. When they're too old to fight and too slow to run, their only option is to kill you.6 points

One time I was directing traffic at a very complicated intersection when I saw an old man toddling out into the intersection on the green light. He only got about twenty feet into the crosswalk when a guy in a big Lincoln stopped in front of him, completely blocking the crosswalk. The old gent, walking with a lot of visible pain, left the crosswalk to walk around the front of the Lincoln, and when he got about dead center to its hood, he turned to face the driver and started beating the living hell out of the Lincoln's hood with his cane. Bystanders cheered the old man and engaged in wholesale flippoffery towards the Lincoln driver. What did I do about it? Well, I figured that if the old man smacked that Lincoln thirty or forty more times I might just have to ask him to quit, but he quit on his own and toddled off. The light changed and I never saw the Lincoln or the old guy again. Made me proud to be an American.5 points

Keep in mind that purchases for family members and truthfully anyone as long as it is being "GIFTED" is completely legal and is not a straw purchase.... Many sellers seem to fail to realize this and try to put the brakes on an otherwise 100 percent legal action...3 points
-
A Straw Purchase is a criminal offense. It is as hard to stop as any other crime. But it is usually harder to prove until another crime has been committed. If criminals want guns; they will get them. They will walk up and take them or they will wait until you are not home and they will kick your door in and take them. I’m not against background checks I just don’t think they stop criminals from getting guns. They are more about politicians saying “At least we are doing something”, and putting cash in gun dealers and the state pockets.3 points

Oh I knew it was legal but it was for him using his own money and I decided to do father/son builds while we was looking. His Mine We finished them in January and was a good experience for the both of us. He bought and built 90% of the parts himself. Me and his mother surprised him with the magpul furniture. He's got a few learning disabilities but I wouldn't trade him for another and the efforts of studying on how to build it piece by piece was good for him.2 points

I got accused of trying to have someone do a straw purchase for me last year. I was at a gunshop with my step son who had just turned 21 (kinda hard to say step since I've raised him since age 2) and was helping him pick out a lower for his first AR build and I was being real picky looking them over and the guy cued in and started getting nervous. I solved that when I said he wants that one and I want this one ring us up lol.2 points

As a Ca native I can say been there, done that, I'll pass on the T-shirt. These changes amount to back door registration in the worst case scenario and an expensive, wasteful violation of privacy in the best case. Screw that. As far as it "not being a big deal" to head down to an FFL and go through a BGC to loan or borrow a weapon or give or sell one to a friend or relative, my thoughts are: 1. If it's not a big deal to do it, it must not be a big deal NOT to do it. Screw it. 2. Screw that. 3. I wonder how many FFLs are in the immediate area? I guess if theres one on every block, anyone wishing to do so may in fact find out "it's not a big deal". My guess is that they are fewer and farther between that deputies. Screw that. 4. What does the state pick up out of this, and what are the FFLs picking up out of this? In CA a private sale costs you $35 to commence with I believe $20 to the state and $15 for the FFL. Sounds great huh? "Want to borrow my gun pal? That'll be $70." Screw that. 5. I hate to bring up my old nemesis logic, but it stands to reason that people who felon for a living are not likely to give two slices of excrement about breaking another law. The only ones who will are law abiding citizens. Screw that. It sucks that an elected official has to tell his people he can't follow through with something for lack of funding, and thats probably an honest part of his stance, but in this particular case I'm glad they can't afford to do it. Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed today but screw a whole boatload of that.2 points

Korean taxis are wild. I know the official reason for the color code is to indicate the niceness of the cab, but I think it really means how fast they go. Silver = hyperspeed. Black = Ludicrous speed. Out in the countryside and see a blue one? DO NOT GET IN THAT THING!!!!! I think the bus ride up a wet, narrow, muddy mountain road to Baguio, Philippines takes the cake for me. Guardrails? What are those? More than 30 years later, I still find bits of seat cover when I crap.2 points

For everyone one of your friends that are “good guys” there are people that think they are bad cops because their interaction didn’t go exactly the way they thought it should. Some people aren’t going to like anyone in a position of authority whether it is a cop, school teacher or supervisor at work. Compare it to being part of the HCP or firearm enthusiast group. A very large group of people hate you. They don’t think you are qualified to carry a gun in public and they will jump on any action by any gun owner to use as an example to try to stop people from carrying or even own guns. Look at the cross section of the people you know and work with. Most are good people but I’m sure you know some that you wonder how they find their way to work. You will find the same in a cross section of cops. I know and worked side by side with a lot of cops. Most good, some bad. Some were good cops that made a minor mistake, let a person with an agenda see that mistake and my god the world is coming to an end. If you start searching for cops that do bad things; you won’t have any problem finding the stories (even if they are made up). If you start searching for gun owners that do bad things; you won’t have any problem finding the stories (even if they are made up). The worse the cop sentiment gets; fewer good people will want to be cops and the problem will get worse. Just like your statement "Officer Kick Your Door Down and Search Your House Just because". I doubt that has happened to you or anyone you know personally. I have never seen a cop kick a door without cause (yes, I’ve seen it on the internet; I’m talking real life) I have seen cops kick doors and forced entry on more than a few occasions myself. Every one of them was justified; but I’m pretty sure someone is under the mistaken impression I violated their rights. I’m sure the changing laws also have a lot to do with it. When I started we were constantly being sent on “Family fights”. We were social workers and marriage counselors. We decided if there was truly a criminal situation or just a family issue that needed to be worked out. Then our discretion was taken away and if we went on a “Domestic Violence” call and anyone made any claims of threats or violence; hook them up and take them to jail. Same thing with DUI. Years ago if a cop stopped you and you had been drinking he had discretion; arrest you, call someone to come and get you or call you a cab. That is not the case today. If you are stopped now and are drinking the options are; ask you to submit to a BAC test, if you pass, send you on your way, if you fail or refuse; arrest you. I’m not saying Domestic violence or DUI isn’t a problem and those people shouldn’t be arrested. But the chances of those things being “borderline” and ending in anything other than an arrest are slim. And that is not the cops doings.2 points

Fred, the Pescador is built on the same mold as the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 12. The Pescador is a couple hundred bucks less, but the features in the Tarpon are way better. The seat alone is worth the price after a full day on the water. I was in a Moken 14 for a while, which was great offshore boat. I just bit the bullet and stepped up to a Hobie Pro Angler. We've got a veritable stable of boats and paddle boards at our house that see a lot of use. Part of the reason for that is introducing new people to the water. I'll extend the offer to any Benefactor in good standing to try any of them out any time.2 points

Picked up a CZ 75 B tonight at Bud's in Sevierville (it's probably not good for me that this place is only a little over a hour away...). Both Mechanically and Jonnin graciously offered to let me come down to Chattanoga and take a look at theirs, but from everything they said and what I've read about this gun the last couple of days, I couldn't wait. Had been thinking about the 2075 RAMI, but those are hard to find. And after holding the 75 in in my hand, it was a done deal. To me, this is just one of those classic guns that I couldn't leave without. So thanks to my Chattanooga friends for turning me on to the CZ brand - probably won't be my last. Something about a metal gun. WIth my Sig p238 now for pocket carry, I could easily see me getting rid of all my polymer eventually...1 point

Ok so I have lived in 11 States and 3 Countries. Now we call Tennessee home. I have searched Tennessee. Statutes and I can not seem to find the particular legislation that requires a motor vehicle operator to utilize the center left turn lane for an additional lane of travel. Is there some unspoken code that says you must use the center lane for at least 1500 feet of travel prior to making a left turn?1 point

I have bought my mother and wife both guns. Both times they were with me at the store. Both times I plainly asked the clerk "Who does the 4473? I am buying this for her." Both times, different stores, the clerk told me "You are paying, you are doing the 4473. You are gifting the gun." My understanding on what makes a Straw Purchase is if you are buying the gun with the knowledge that the other person is otherwise legally prevented from purchasing the gun themselves, and obviously you are using their money. This is also clearly explained on the 4473 if you read the definition of Question 11.a. "However, if Mr. Brown goes to buy a firearm with his own money to give to Mr. Black as a present, Mr. Brown is the actual transferee/buyer of the firearm and should answer “YES” to question 11.a."1 point

Grease the rails, the barrel lugs and the end of the barrel. If it continues you can polish the breech face with some 2,000 grit sandpaper. Also check the extractor to make sure the bottom of the hook has a bevel to it.1 point

Do we really think straw purchases occur frequently? I figured it was as often as a legal gun owner commits a crime. I have heard of one actual straw purchase in my 40+ years. It was a female sailor who bought one for her boyfriend who turned out to be a slime ball. She did time for it too.1 point

Any gun can be limp wristed and jam. The 238 is not even in the top 100 for guns that are "prone" to the problem. Nearly every glock is worse, the lightweight kel-tecs are worse, many others as well. It will still do it if you grip too weakly, but the guns are not sprung with massive recoil springs that worsen the issue. And the reverse is true as well: if you simply cannot grasp the gun enough to prevent limp wrist jamming, buy a weaker recoil spring and the problem will clear up 100%. Be aware that an extra light spring and a shooter that does not LW can beat the gun up, peen the slide against its stop and cause problems or wear... a "fixed" gun for a handicapped person should not be passed around too much.1 point

Seems like an easy enough argument to refute. I would assume that the defendant's attorney would end up questioning at least one of the arresting officers on the stand. So, the question might be: Defense: Just to clear up a point, the prosecutor has indicated that having a round in the chamber of a firearm indicates premeditation. Officer X, do you carry a firearm on duty? Officer X: Yes. Defense: And do you carry it with a round in the chamber? Officer X: Yes. Defense: Based on your experience, is that common practice among police officers? Officer X: Yes. Defense: Ah, I see. So, then, in your experience and professional opinion as an officer of the law and as you, yourself, and many of your colleagues carry with a round in the chamber , would you say that carrying a handgun with a round in the chamber necessarily indicates premeditation in a shooting incident? Officer X: No, of course not.1 point

Its pretty nice. Its a bit short, but ok for basic handgun sessions. The ventilation is top notch, which puts it a cut above many of the ranges in the area. They have a range officer watching on camera but generally keep a low interference unless the shooters are being unsafe or doing something way over the top. Its pretty loud in there at times, concrete room and gunfire does that, i advise double up plugs and headset. Typical target system (rolls in and out with a switch), lighting is decent. The yearly membership is very reasonable if you enjoy it and go a lot.1 point

Actually this is what the driving manual says to do. Copied below. You may turn from a side street or driveway into a shared center turn lane, stop, and wait for traffic to clear before merging into traffic in the lane immediately to your right. Make sure the lane is clear in both directions and then turn into the lane only when it is safe. Be sure to give the proper signal while waiting to move into the right lane and also when moving out of the turn lane back into the right lane of traffic1 point

the rami is not going to fit well into normal sized pockets. Its a double stack and too fat, and while compact its just a hair too big. That said, I have carried it that way a few times (trying it out, and giving up on the idea). It is an awesome gun, but just a hair big for typical pocket carry. Cz custom shop can get you a rami pretty fast. You looking for 9mm only? Or a 380? There are a few 380s I can think of, drawing a blank on the decocking 9s...1 point

When I'm on the road everyone going slower than me is a freaking moron and everyone going faster than me is a damned idiot. But everyone knows that here in Tennessee if you are planning on making a left hand turn then you should stay in the far right lane until the very last minute and then just shoot across how ever man lanes necessary to get to where you are going and visa versa.1 point

A great spot is the section of the Harpeth by Tip-a-canoe. There's a section where you can basically put in and walk back from the take out. Making it easy to do by yourself if you have a kayak cart (recommended regardless). Plus it's probably the highest traffic area of the local rivers which is a good thing when your starting out. Put in: http://goo.gl/maps/s1mS6 Take out: http://goo.gl/maps/H157o PFD, GET ONE. WEAR IT. I have personally saved my life with mine. Forgot I promised some comments on this one. Well...it is every bit as dark and pessimistic as One Second After. Really so. Takes the leap that Muslim/Al Queada/Terrorists will hit America where it hurts. And it goes pretty deep into the ability of the terrorists to do as they wish without fear of losing. Very depressing. And darn it...equally plausible.1 point

Better and more to the point, IMO, someone should realize that there is a reason for posse comitatus and see that the militarization of our civilian police forces is, at least in part, an attempt to do an 'end run' around the limitations and protections it provides to the general public. To me, a militarized police force violates the spirit of posse comitatus if not the letter. In other words, I believe that a militarized police force should be forbidden by law as an extention of posse comitatus. When you have a force that is A ) largely militarized in structure, training, mindset and policies - making them a de facto military organization - which is B ) (at least in part) controlled by the Federal Government through funding, grants, equipment 'donations' and the like. as well as the Federal requirements a department must meet in order to qualify for these Federal programs, if nothing else then posse comitatus should prohibit such a force from being deployed to enforce law and order in a civilian setting. As far as 'no knock warrants', legalization of blanket surveillance without a specific warrant, 'probable cause' searches of homes and the like, remember that one of the major grievances that led our forefathers to rebel against their then legal government were so-called 'writs of assistance' and other, 'general' warrants. These writs and warrants allowed the then equivalent of customs agents to search any homes, etc. that they pleased without needing to specify what properties were to be searched or what evidence was being gathered. So, forgetting all the other Constitutional violations in which our government indulges, these 'police powers' violations, alone - violation of the spirit of posse comitatus as well as specific and above-board search warrant requirements - would have our forefathers spinning in their graves. Yet in this day and age we are so conditioned to 'respect those in positions of authority' that if they spoke out against such violations we would probably accuse ol' George and Thomas of 'cop bashing.'1 point

You're incorrect on two fronts. First, the phrase "well-regulated militia" at the time of the writing meant "well trained." Second, the entire phrase within which it is contained, "A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state," is a subordinate clause and seeks to support or clarify the main clause, not place conditions upon it. The authors of the Constitution understood the need for our newly formed country to maintain a standing army, as repugnant as the idea was to many of them. And since the idea of a standing army was objectionable to them, they secured in writing the right of the people (not the militia) to keep and bear arms. In other words, background checks are in no way consistent with the wording nor the intent of the 2nd Amendment.1 point

Wow - when did Gecko45 leave the tactical retail response team to take a job as an ordinary cop? I guess he was tired of cops getting all the glory when he and his team were the real heroes. Was the armored vehicle in question possibly an armored golf card or maybe a hardened Segway? Are you sure it was an actual police vehicle or did it maybe have Mall of America painted on the side? Some of you guys mentioned that such gear might be okay if serving a no-knock warrant, etc. Okay, except that should be a moot point as there should be no such thing as no-knock warrants. Criminal or not, they are a civilian police force serving warrants on civilian offenders (or, in some cases, the neighbor of a civilian offender when, oops, they kick in the wrong door and shoot/beat down the wrong people or kill seven year old girls who are asleep on the couch.) They are not military anti-insurgent forces going door to door in Afghanistan nor are they carrying off an "0 Dark Thirty" mission.1 point

Since Walther split off from S&W there are a lot of guns they are making in their own factory here in the states. The PPK, PPK/S is not one of those. Those pistols IIRC are still made in Germany and were imported into the states. Germany is not exporting guns into the USA atm, thus no PPK's. Or something along those lines at least.1 point
