BOTH ITEMS HAVE BEEN SPOKEN FOR! EDIT: Cherokee Slim has taken the press. EDIT: otnman has taken the magazines. As the title states, I'm giving these items away to the next to people who sign up for a Benefactor subscription. The first person to show proof of purchase will get first pick. If we cannot arrange for local pickup, I will ship on my dime. First item is a Lee reloading press. It appears to have be used very little. Second item(s) are two Ram-Line 10/22 - 77/22 magazines. One is a 50-round, and the other is a 20-round.8 points

This is a modified wharncliff I made for my daughter in law to her specifications. It's made from 1095 5/32 " thick carbon steel professionally heat treated to RC 59/60. It has a blade length of about 4 1/4" with an over all length of 8 1/2". It was twice etched then lightly sanded with 800 grit to reveal the details. The scales are Australian redwood burl mixed with alumilite. Still need a sheath....I'll get to it soon.7 points

 There's a lot of other crap a 1911 won't do either. Like run when it's full of mud, or carry 15 rounds in the same size frame as that Glock 19, or get carried by more police forces than any other handgun, or.... you get the point. I'm a huge 1911 fan but I am also a huge Glock fan, and a huge M&P fan, etc. Each have their strengths, each have their weaknesses. But this slide breakage isn't an inherent weakness of that Glock any more than a freak frame-crack on a 1911 is a weakness of that platform.4 points

My grandmother put two rounds of .32 long from a S&W revolver(her purse gun and the only one she ever bothered carrying) in a guy attempting to rob the family bar back in the 80s. He apparently died before he got back to his car in the parking lot. The human body generally has an adverse reaction to new holes. Not saying that he couldn't carry something better or more modern, but having a firearm you're comfortable carrying and using if need be is better than leaving one you don't like at home in a drawer. Grandpa was THP so he carried a .357 on his hip and a .38 on his ankle but I never heard of him using either, he much prefered a shotgun. He had one for his cruiser and one for the family LTD. I have no clue how long the guy actually lived after being hit as I was 3 at the time, but a picture of his body laying dead in the parking lot was posted behind the bar until my grandmother passed away many years later.4 points

Join the club. My pops is the same way... I guess that's what happens when we get old maybe? Mine has a decent gun, and carries it in the door pocket of his truck. I helped him haul some stuff to the dump the other day, I'm driving and I look down and his HK USP is completely rusted. I asked him "Hey, your gun looks pretty dirty pop. Have you fired it in a while?" He goes "Funny you say that, tried to shoot a coon that gets into our trash with it the other day and it wouldn't fire" I'm thinking to myself.... "They WTH are you still carrying it!?" Who carries a gun that doesn't work!? What's your plan, throw it at them? So as far as advice.... This is what I did. I said... "Lemme take that thing home and clean it up for you. Looks like it could use a detail" To which he of course agreed. I took it completely down for a full inspection and detail, rust removal.... :ugh: .... and I bought him a box of good defense ammo. Since he had it loaded (only 5 rounds also... :squint: ) with VERY old flat nose target rounds. I go out there to shoot with him almost every week, so I'm adding more pistol shooting to the mix and I'm going to just have a talk with him about his carry. Advice: So... maybe buy him an acceptable carry gun? If it's a gift from his son, he might carry it instead. :2cents:3 points

Well, I should know better than to get involved in this thread but will anyway, just a little. I got caught up in the bass fishing craze back in mid 80's. Talk about getting hooked, it was worse then cocaine and heroine for me. I finally was able to kick the addiction about 3 years ago. That was after 5 new Bass Boats, All Skeeters and about $40,000.00 in tackle and rod & reels. Also made all my own soft Plastic baits myself. Made and sold baits to other anglers. I was on the water an average of 3-4 days or nights a week. Fished Local and regional Bass tournaments winning many of them over the years. Only used Bait casting reels for every application of the art of bass fishing. Never had less then 10 rods on the deck when boat was in the water. My Son in law got the fever from me about 6 years ago and now what tackle and rods I didn't sell he has along with my last Skeeter Boat. All I can say is don't let it get to deep into you blood stream because Cocaine is like candy compared to Bass fishing. Here's a few of the boat my Son in law has now but pictures are from when I had it. All of the reels on the rods are Shimano Chronarchs and all of the rods for the most part are custom rods costing several hundred dollars to have made. Well, can't show all this and not add a few fish pictures........ 3 points

Find some Krylon, not Rustoleum, chalkboard paint. That stuff is a lot more durable than regular Krylon. Been using it on guns for years and have always been impressed.3 points

My buddy Brad said " Everything mechanical breaks eventually"...Yep. he's right. I was at the range doing some practice drills last Sunday. Completely uneventful range session. When I got home I actually decided to clean my Glock 19. Now that's not something I do after each range session.(I normally just run a bore snake through it) Yes, I can be abusive to my Glock. But having better than 30K of rounds through it, I've come to trust that little sucker. I'll treat her better in the future. Here's a few pics of what I found... Well Heck! So now I know for certain that a Glock can be broken...you just have to shoot it enough! Actually I thought it would take more rounds than that... fwiw I do change my RSA every 1500-2000 rounds and keep my Glocks appropriately lubed. I contacted Anthony at the Glock service department in Smyrna and he told me to mail it to them. So I did...it should arrive by Friday. We'll see what happens. As an aside. I carry AIWB in a Dale Fricke Archangel holster. It accommodates my G 17 and G 26...so I'm GTG until my 19 comes home. But lesson learned on one front...I will be purchasing another 19...just in case. :ugh: http://dalefrickeholsters.com/product/archangel-appendix-carry/2 points

As an instructor and veteran collector / shooter / gunsmith for over 30 years, I have owned, shot, and worked on every gun in this thread plus many others. And I've helped fit hundreds of folks with their defense guns. My $0.02: I refuse to have a manual safety on any carry or defensive gun. Works fine at the range and in training, but for many folks this is forgotten or cumbersome when adrenaline hits during a life or death situation, I know this from personal experience on several occasions. If you must have a manual safety then you better shoot and train with it several times per month, every month, many thousands of rounds to minimize the risk. As far as size, any gun that is too thick, heavy, or difficult to conceal will be left at home at least some of the time, so pick a gun that you can always carry and fully conceal, even when you are wearing shorts and a t-shirt with no belt in 100 degree heat. A gun that is slightly uncomfortable to fire at the range is still way better than a more comfortable gun that is left at home when the crap hits the fan, and when adrenaline hits you won't notice a little trigger creep or few extra pounds of pressure. With all that said, and for many many other reasons, a Ruger LCP is always with me. I sometimes also have other arms, but the LCP is attached just like my wallet, keys, and kidneys. And I highly recommend the CTC laser which automatically turns on when you grip the gun. It's perfect for defense use, at defense distances, and allows you to focus on the threat.2 points

My father was 81 years old when he passed away and carrying one of these in a shoulder rig from the time he got it in 1968 I believe. He shot a would be robber in 1971 that broke into our home. The robber was also armed but one shot from the .44 Mag and the guy dropped to the floor dead. He said it was the best money he ever spent on anything in his life. He was a WWII vet in the Pacific and wasn't a believer in small caliber weapons. So I wish you the best in dealing with your dad cause I know what's like trying to educate my old man about new stuff.2 points

Wowzers. That's a new one for me! Wonder when that happened, and how many rounds it fired without a hitch in that condition. Cool that it stayed together. Looks like it still had about 70% coverage around the guide rod/spring. Steve Hennessey, tuner of perfomance cars, says if you aren't breaking them, you aren't trying hard enough. That's after his 1,000 HP Viper caught on fire as a car mag was reviewing it against some other exotics. Haha!2 points

The overwhelming choice between 3 different forums was the middle one followed by the top one. So I've sold the first and second one and still have the bottom one available. I have to make sheaths for about 7 knives before I do anything else. Then I have enough steel on hand to start 3 of the top knives. I need to order steel to make a bunch of the second ones and more of the top ones. I plan on making them with maybe a variation or two to the scales and general appearance but otherwise they will be the same. I plan on used some of the small pieces of handle material I have available. That will able me to keep costs down. I'm gonna make them and make them available as they appear with no special orders. I'm gonna make belt sheaths for all of them out of kydex. So anyway....that's the plan.1 point

It broke at some point, continued to function and you found out when you got home. Nice to know if it even happens again and you in a bad place it should still work. The fact Glock will replace/repair no questions asked and you've got a backup, what's not to love. It reinforces the argument for a 2nd "primary" What if it broke and locked up in class? My wife's nightstand gun is a G3 G17 and she prefers the ergonomics over my CZ's (which is a good deal for me)1 point

"There is nothing of which to be afraid." That exchange was pretty funny also. I can't imagine how they can keep a show like this up. Since it is on Fox, maybe the producers just assumed they would only get half a season anyway.1 point

Well anything's possible but most of the breakages I've seen on Gaston's Tupperware have been polymer frame or internal parts related. I am certain you will receive a new replacement slide from Glock if not a replacement pistol because they're that kind of a quality first, customer service company. My guess is that slide had a stress defect that finally let go on you. A full muzzle first drop assembled or disassembled could induce a stress fracture as well. Bottom line Kaka happens to any and all firearms or related gear but now you've got a cool "I broke a Glock" gun store/firing range story to tell.1 point

I have a specwar 556 and it is a great choice. The mount is solid, suppression is one of the best in it's class, and weight is on par with other 556 cans. All that, and for a great price. I picked mine up for around $500 from silencershop before SilCo raised prices. You won't be disappointed if you choose the specwar.1 point

Once I added a plus 2 extension to a 17 mag. I dropped said magazine on the hard concrete floor of my garage; the extension popped off dumping 19 Gold Dots all over the floor. At that moment I swore off of magazine extensions. I like the XGrip sleeves that fill in the gap when you use a 17 mag in a 19 for example. I use one with a G19 mag in the left side pocket on days when I pocket carry a 26. This, of course, requires the use of cargo shorts with big pockets. It is heavy but a very convenient way to be well-armed quickly.1 point

So why does the NRA have politicians fill out surveys on where they stand, but not people running for the board? I want to know where people stand on constutional carry, repealing the NFA, etc. As a life member I am sick of people who are just interested in keeping guns for hunting or sporting purposes.1 point
