  3.  Three men - a Canadian farmer, a Muslim fanatic and a White Trash Biker are all walking together one day.  They come across a lantern and a Genie pops out of it.     'I will give each of you one wish, which is three wishes in total', says the Genie.     The Canadian says, 'I am a farmer and my son will also farm. I want the land to be forever fertile in Canada '     POOF! With the blink of the Genie's eye, the land in Canada was forever fertile for farming.     The Muslim was amazed, so he said, 'I want a wall around Afghanistan , Palestine , Iraq and Iran so that no infidels, Americans or Canadians can come into our precious land.'     POOF! Again, with the blink of the Genie's eye, there was a huge wall around those countries.     The Biker says, 'I am very curious.  Please tell me more about this wall.'     The Genie explains, 'Well, it's about 5,000 feet high, 500 feet thick and completely surrounds the countries. Nothing can get in or out;     it's virtually impenetrable.'     The Biker sits down on his Harley, cracks a beer, lights a cigar, smiles and says, 'Fill it with water.'

  4. Clearly we all should have done something about that pesky ammo tax before he showed up.  Who the heck forgot to do that?!?   Trust me, folks, we're going to have a stern discussion about this at this week's meeting.  And whoever keeps leaving the toilet seat up, Marge in Accounting is plenty ticked about that too.

  7.     One of the funniest ironies ever; When Toyota got into NASCAR a few years back.  Every podunk moron I heard was complaining about those GD and MF'ing foreign cars out there with good ole american cars.  Best look ever was their expression when you tell them all the mexican made parts Ford uses, all the Canadian work done with GM.......Camrys???????        Made in Kentucky.

  9. Adapt and overcome.   I am left handed, right eye dominant. I learned to shoot right handed. I can shoot a pistol equally well with either hand, but I have always shot a rifle right handed.   My daughter and my wife are unfortunately the exact opposite. They are both right handed and left eye dominant. My daughter started shooting at four or five, and I have taught her since the beginning to shoot left handed rifle and which ever hand she prefers for pistols.    There are a few reasons for this. But the main one is simplicity. Even if some fancy $100 sight mount existed that allowed her to shoulder the rifle right handed and shoot left handed, it would be awkward, and would be required to be moved, or multiple purchased for every gun she shoots. Which would have to be re-zeroed, which would cost more ammo. She would be unable to have any commonality with any other rifle in the home, or at the range unless it was equipped with the fancy device. If the fancy device broke, or was lost, or somehow otherwise became disabled, she would be unable to operate a rifle as she had become dependent on  the device and not her skill and ability to overcome adversity.   In short, make him shoot left handed, and make him get used to it. Sure, that is easy for me to say after 30+ years of shooting right handed, it is natural to me now.    Your other option would be to train his weak eye and force him to use it, but I don't think that would be as viable, or as long term successful as just biting the bullet and learning to shoot left handed. While it is uncomfortable, it is the better solution.   Be positive with it, don't make him feel like a freak, it is a common obstacle, and with proper training it can easily be overcome. If you make it a hassle, or a fuss it could turn him off of shooting and make him feel self conscious. You don't want that, you want what is best for him.    I am not a professional trainer, so take my advice with that disclaimer, but I am a man who learned to shoot cross eye dominant and is successfully teaching a cross eye dominant child.

You were in the military...you know what I'm talking about (anyone see the HBO series "Generation Kill"?).  Good natured, equal opportunity cracking, with a bunch of adults not looking to be "offended." I can't think of one that wouldn't run to a gunfight to save the other.

  15. Do him a favor and teach him to shoot long guns left handed.  If he ever takes up the shotgun/wing shooting he will thank you.  His rifle shooting with aperture sights will also benefit from using his dominate eye and shooting with both eyes open.

  19. I can contest to the durability of the Hilux from being overseas. Growing up my dad had a 95 Tacoma with the near indestructible 2.7. That truck saw more work than most one ton domestic trucks. It eventually got totaled by another Tacoma. I just recently sold my 2013 Tacoma prerunner. While bigger, I just didn't think it was as well built as the first generation Tacomas or pickups.

  20. I thought it was funny. I really don't think the producers of the Dukes Of Hazzard had any kind of racist message or intent when they made the show back then, back then a rebel flag wasn't that much of a big deal as it is nowadays, southern bands like Lynard Skynard and Charlie Daniels Band used to put the flag on their album covers, they were all over the place at NASCAR races. Back in the 70's and 80's many people just viewed the flag as a southern thing, I don't think their intent was to promote racism, (for some people). I am aware it is commonly flown by idiot rasist aryan groups and the KKK but so is the Stars and Stripes. I can see how some black Americans, especially those of age where they grew up in a racist atmosphere in the south would be offended by the flag.

  21.   I wondered about that also. The braces should be on the inside for several reasons. With them on the outside, a group of attackers could use them to climb up the wall to the top and use a rope to get in from the top. The supports could also be removed from outside with no one on the inside being able to see them. With that in mind, maybe you are right about them being there to keep people in for the same reasons. It's definitely strange and is going to play into something bad for the group eventually I think.

  22. As most of you know, Consumer Reports does reports every year that show the brands with the highest levels of reliability and the highest level of brand loyalty. Oddly enough, the least reliable vehicles often have the highest customer loyalty. Not sure what is wrong with people's brains that make them desire vehicles that they won't be able to drive, but I am a Japanese guy through and through. In my garage/driveway you will find a Toyota, a Honda, a Yamaha motorcycle, and a Honda motorcycle. I've done the "fix a car more than you drive it" thing the last time I bought American. Sorry, but I'd rather drive a vehicle than fix it. YMMV.

  23.   American manufacturers would have nothing on it but people would continue to buy the American trucks, even if they cost three times as much.  These people will undoubtedly be quick to tell you how proud they are of there "American" vehicle and how it will out perform that "Jap crap" even though it won't.  The American trucks will also not be as dependable as their Japanese counterparts.  Ironically Toyota is amongst the "most American" made trucks on the road, meaning that they source more of their parts from America than other companies, Ford rivals them on this but Dodge and Chevy aren't even close.

  28.     Pretty much this.    I'm also left handed and right eye dominant.  I grew up shooting right handed guns left handed.  As the astigmatism in my left eye has gotten a little worse, I see better out of my right eye with my contacts.  That combined with the fact that it's basically a right handed world convinced me to switch to shooting right handed.  Being left handed in a right handed world pretty much forces you to be somewhat ambidextrous anyway.  While I'm still more comfortable shooting rifles left handed, the switch isn't that hard.  He'll get used to it.

  29. I am also right handed and left eye dominant as are my son and grandson.  I've never had a problem with handguns or rifles but shotgun wing shooting has always been a real challenge for me.     As a boy I practiced with BB gun and pellet rifle a lot with the left eye closed and it seemed to work well.     In wing shooting I've never found a good alternative for me.  Both eyes open is about as good as anything and practice enough to compensate for the problem without having to think about it.  Others recommend covering the left eye, etc.     Good luck.

  38. A lot of folks are freaking. M855 doesn`t even shoot as well as other cheaper ammo. I have punched holes in 1/4" mild steel at ( not gonna` say how close range ) with just lead core ammo. I too, don`t respond to panic mode or go ape shtuff anymore. A lot of better rounds out there that are just "Plain Jane" and are more accurate too at the longer distances. I have enjoyed my pellet rifle so far. I can always get ammo for it and it is cheap to "shoot". LOL! Sure does knock varmints for a loop when it hits one. :)

  46.   Yes...   Last week, the Tennessee Legislature saw the introduction of numerous NRA-supported pro-gun bills that seek to enhance the Second Amendment and protect gun owners in Tennessee: Senate Bill 1058/ House Bill 994, sponsored by state Senator Mark Green (R-22) and state Representative Curry Todd (R-95) respectively, would create a cause of action against an employer for discharge or adverse employment action based solely on transportation or storage of a firearm or firearm ammunition in an employer parking lot.  Senate Bill 1171/ House Bill 995, sponsored by state Senator John Stevens (R-24) and state Representative Mike Harrison (R-09) respectively, would allow a person with a handgun carry permit to carry a firearm in any state, county, or municipal park or other recreation area and would remove provisions allowing local governments to prohibit carrying in parks by resolution or ordinance. Senate Bill 1103/ House Bill 1046, sponsored by state Senator Doug Overbey (R-02) and state Representative William Lamberth (R-44) respectively, would establish certain procedures regarding the disposition of confiscated or abandoned firearms in state or local custody, including the sale and destruction of such firearms.  Senate Bill 1215/ House Bill 1255, sponsored by state Senator Jack Johnson (R-23) and state Representative Charles Sargent (R-61) respectively, would require the chief law enforcement officer of a jurisdiction to certify the transfer or making of a firearm, as required by the National Firearms Act, within 15 days if the person is not prohibited from receiving or possessing a firearm by law; permits an applicant to appeal a denial to the circuit court. Senate Bill 1239/ House Bill 1112, sponsored by state Senator Mike bell (R-09) and state Representative Jeremy Faison (R-11) respectively, would add certain requirements regarding handgun carry permit applications, including requiring an alien or admission number from a non-citizen applicant; allows a gun dealer to sell a firearm to a handgun carry permit holder without conducting a background check or entering the TBI unique approval number on the transaction record.  Further pro-gun legislation that was introduced includes: Senate Bill 312/ House Bill 206, sponsored by Senator Green (R-22) and state Representative Courtney Rogers (R-45) respectively, would add certain exceptions to the definitions of "explosive weapon" and "restricted firearm ammunition" to permit possession or use of blank ammunition and certain practice rounds and create a new affirmative defense to prosecution of prohibited weapons if possessed in accordance with certain federal laws or regulated by the ATF. Senate Bill 381 / House Bill 899, sponsored by state Senator Bill Ketron (R-13) and state Representative Kevin Brooks (R-24) respectively, would remove the tax exemption for certain machinery used for the manufacture of firearms.  This tax exemption applies to machinery that is primarily used in the manufacturing of smart-gun technology.   House Bill 481/ Senate Bill 70, sponsored by state Representative Judd Matheny (R-47) and state Senator Brian Kelsey (R-31) respectively, would clarify that it is not an offense for a person to transport and properly store a firearm in a motor vehicle parked on school property.  Senate Bill 780/ House Bill 535, sponsored by state Senator Mae Beavers (R-17) and state Representative Rick Womick (R-34) respectively, would permit a person who is not prohibited from possessing a firearm to possess a firearm, openly or concealed, regardless of whether the person has a handgun permit. House Bill 683/ Senate Bill 633, sponsored by state Representative James Van Huss (R-06) and state Senator Paul Bailey (R-15) respectively, would prohibit schools from requiring students or parents to provide information on firearm ownership; prohibits local education agencies from requiring employees to provide information on firearm ownership; prohibit adverse disciplinary or employment action based on information of firearm ownership that is voluntarily provided. Senate Bill 700/ House Bill 745, sponsored by state Senator Frank S. Niceley (R-08) and state Representative John B. Holsclaw, Jr. (R-04) respectively, would create a lifetime handgun carry permit which entitles the permit holder to carry any handgun that the permit holder legally owns or possesses without expiration; sets the application fee for a lifetime handgun carry permit at $500. House Bill 1059/ Senate Bill 778, sponsored by Representative Van Huss (R-06) and state Senator Mae Beavers (R-17) respectively, would create a Second Amendment tax-free weekend for sales of firearms, firearms ammunition, and firearms accessories made during the same time as the annual sales tax holiday. House Bill 1304/ Senate Bill 886, sponsored by state Representative Mary Littleton (R-78) and state Senator Brian Kelsey (R-31) respectively, would establish certain procedures for the petitioning of a court for relief from firearms disabilities established for a prior judicial commitment or adjudication order for mental illness. Senate Bill 1110/ House Bill 1341, sponsored by state Senator Richard Briggs (R-07) and state Representative Terri Lynn Weaver (R-40) respectively, would prohibit the use of any public funds, personnel, or property to enforce any federal law or regulation that regulates the ownership, use, or possession of firearms, ammunition, or firearms accessories. Your NRA-ILA will continue to keep you updated when more information is available.
