That is what I have lost so far and plan on being in the 150 range by my birthday in June. Been eating ~700 calories a day and nearly zero carbs as well as limiting fats substantially. I can't exercise so it is diet only for me and seems to be working. I have also cut out all caffeine and any sort of processed foods. I cook fresh food for every meal. After years of 230+ cholesterol and adding a few pounds a month it was time.5 points

I asked my wife about this before posting. She is a nurse with a specialty in wellness. A 700 calorie a day diet is not good for your health. It's probably okay for a week or so, but after that, there are potential problems. You are burning muscle, not just fat and the body needs muscle to burn fat. Over time, your metabolism can slow down drastically because it thinks you are in a survival mode. When your metabolism slows down, you burn less calories than a normal person and the slow down can be permanent AND cause health issues. Look at what has happened to some of the contestants in the biggest loser. You can do damage to your organs because they aren't getting enough nutrients. You're putting yourself into ketosis, which is basically poisoning the body. That's what happens to diabetics when their insulin is out of control. Fasting for a few days in a row is okay, but it's not a healthy way to lose weight over the long term. As far as exercise is concerned, if your doctor tells you that you can't exercise, you need to find another doctor. If you have a medical problem, hospitals have rehab centers that can teach you what you can and cannot do. Basically, if you can walk, you can exercise. If you can walk up stairs, you can exercise. If you can lift a gallon of milk, you can exercise. Yesterday, I worked out on the stairclimber at the rec center. I climbed the height of the Empire State Building. I'm 67. If I can do it, you can do it. Sorry to be so blunt, but if I saw someone carrying a weapon in a dangerous holster, I'd be just as quick to point it out. It's in everyone's best interests. Good luck on losing weight.3 points

Saw this one the other day and had to laugh.... Kanye is a self-important prick. He and Kim are perfect for one another. God help that little girl.3 points

I am glad it is working for you, but I will say that 700 calories a day isn't enough for anyone. I understand not being able to exercise, but losing that much weight that fast isn't healthy either. I would personally recommend moderating a little more. The weight will still come off, just not quite as fast. Don't create other issues by starving yourself. You are most likely losing muscle mass and not just fat. Just my opinion.3 points

Actually . we are not starving.. we eating healthy and for non working people consuming under 1000 calories is fine. We get plenty of nutrients. actually feel better now that I did in a long time by not eating all the other stuff.. We walk every day as far as we can.Its working for us. No one is in Ketosis here.. no worries:)2 points

Does that Hipoint include the ammo, or was that just for the photo? I'm not going to be one of those guys that nitpicks you over everything. I don't care if it doesn't have the lock or cleaning brush because that ammo adds real value. Do you still have the manual?2 points

I have thought a lot about this as well, I sometimes have to go into bad areas. As much as I have thought as to what I would do I still do not know. I do keep my head on a swivel, drive around the building once to look for trouble and act on what I see. I have called the customer when I see what I think does not look right and let them know what is going on. It is a scary world, punks or thugs (what you call them) are my fear, some being so young and the group so large there is no way to tell what might happen. My advice, look close, drive around and look for "trouble". I wont get out of the car if I see more than 2 or 3 in a group. Leave the area as fast as you can, call me a scared y cat, I dont care, I want to wake up on this side of the grass.2 points

You all are a great candidate for the paleo diet. But even then most are eating 1200 calories or so a day, some more.1 point

It would be great if there was a handbook of what you can and can’t do; but there isn’t because of words like “immediate” “great bodily harm” and the main one “a reasonable person”. All you need to do is to look at many of the cases we have discussed here or have been in the news. People that seemed to be defending themselves have gone to prison; people that committed murder have walked free. We can look at any one specific case and determine why it went to court and why the outcome was what it was. But you can’t really generalize. I have a plan for myself that I think will keep me out of court in all 50 states should I have the need to shoot someone. I also won’t get in an altercation while I am armed. If I do; I am willing to take an azz whipping before I pull a gun. If I get hurt; so be it, I shouldn’t have been being a dumbazz. If I am attacked without provocation; that’s a whole different story. Not only do you have responsibility to protect your family; you have a responsibility to stay out of prison and not leave them to fin for themselves because you either misjudged the situation or just did something ignorant. We live in times where people are rioting over criminals that were either attacking cops or pointing guns at them and being killed by the cops. If you are a HCP holder the dirtbags and liberals will come after you the same as they do with the cops. If you don’t believe that I hope you never have to find out.1 point

I'm glad you started this thread, SW. My situation is similar, especially right now. I am 'only' 43 and am 5' 11" and weigh 260. Yes, I am overweight but I am also a 'big guy'. I also have recurring problems with cardiomyopathy (weak heart function) and other chronic health issues. Also, I am currently undergoing chemotherapy for colon cancer and the chemo causes some neuropathy, especially cold neuropathy. In fact, sometimes my hands gets so numb and/or achy or even lock up to the point that I wonder how effectively I'd be able to use a handgun if the need arose, especially one with any, real recoil. Also, as part of the whole cancer ordeal, I had to have part of my colon removed and currently have a (hopefully reversible) colostomy. In other words, my guts are currently hacked up and I have a large (now healed) surgical scar. To me, it would not be too great a stretch to think that one good, solid punch in the gut - which wouldn't necessarily be all that serious a threat to some folks - could tear things loose in there. That would certainly constitute a risk of death or serious, bodily injury for me. Further, the effects of chemo as well as cardiomyopathy mean that I'm not going to be running all that fast or far. I would certainly attempt to extract myself from a situation to the best of my ability but I am not willing to risk dying just because some asshat thinks he has something to prove.1 point

Diabetic and was on insulin. Weight gain went through the roof. New Dr, new meds. No insulin. I am down 63 pounds since September 23rd. Plan in losing another 50 to reach my basketball playing weight 30years ago, Lol. I agree with Oma Sourkraut, processed foods are horrible for your system.1 point

We are eating 5-6 times a day and varying what we eat. I seriously doubt we are in ketosis. My doctor is a close personal friend and we talk almost every day about this and other things. Initially we were going too fast so he told us to eat a bit more and we did but we are still loosing the added weight we have put on over the years. Yes I could exercise but at what cost? A 20 minute walk really messes me up for the day. A couple hours at the range puts me in bed for days. Not like I get much time out of bed anyways but I would prefer to get as much time out of bed as I can. I am very intimate with what my body can and cannot handle and I know the path I am on right now is uncomfortable but not dangerous.1 point

Prep work is key. Note that you'll have to remove the finish all around the area so the epoxy will adhere properly. Rinse it thoroughly with acetone and handle it only with rubber gloves after you remove the finish. It also states to use fiberglass to bridge "large holes"... I'd say yours qualifies as large. I'd also do the heat cure. http://www.devcon.com/prodfiles/pdfs/fam_tds_107.pdf1 point

The reason for this is my wife recently found out she has diabetes. It runs in her family so we knew it was always a risk. It also runs in my family so it was just the luck of the draw that she got diagnosed first. But it is a wake up call for us. We spent a lifetime eating anything we wanted and often eating to excess. We thought we were eating healthy and we often would eat healthy food but we would eat way too much. So for us it is not about keep sugar levels low which means counting carbs. We take in less than 8 carbs per meal but even without carbs we have great food, it is all about spices. Ok, for breakfast it is generally two eggs and two pieces of bacon. We drink either carbonated water or caffeine free tea. For lunch, which is the big meal of the day, we grill about 150g of chicken or 160g of fish and split a serving shrimp. We will add 72g of white mushrooms. This is normally in a curry soup but one could leave out the curry and have a nice chicken soup. We will add some sort of green vegetable to it as well but only a serving size worth. Curry powder supposedly has carbs but one of the ingredients actually cause the blood sugar to drop. For dinner we have the same amount of chicken and shrimp but mixed in with 75g-100g of lettuce. For dressings we use whatever we want but we ALWAYS use the recommended servings. I always thought eating salad was healthy and it would be except before I would smother it with 1/2 a bottle of dressing. For snacks we have mackerel or oopsie bread. Oopsie bread is made without any flour and is almost pancake like. My wife also makes jerky for snacks, store bought stuff isn't very good for you. The biggest thing is use the recommended serving size for everything and limit what you eat to 3-4 items per meal. And the second most important thing is to not each anything substantial for the last 5 hours you are awake. And finally get up an move, even if only to walk to check the mail. I cannot exercise at all other than 15-20 minute walks but that is enough to make a difference. Oh, and cut out sodas or other sweetened drinks. I used to drink a lot of green tea but the problem is it had about 180 calories worth of sugar in each bottle.1 point

Congrats on the progress! I'm working on that too, but I'm not trying quite as hard as you.... not sure I'd maintain my sanity on 700 calories/day. I have a birthday of significance coming up so I'm trying to lose 15-20 lbs before then. I've lost 7-8 lbs so far.1 point

Due to amount of people that have messaged saying they would like to attend, but cannot due to the short notice we are changing the date for the class. To those that have signed up we will have something in place for signing up initially. This may be for the best as we are working in combination with another to offer a weekend of training. Thank you to those that signed up and to those that messaged me with questions and concerns!1 point

I'm 6'2", overweight at 225 or so, but certainly don't look defenseless either to most anyone I wouldn't think. But certainly, after the fact, your various ailments would almost certainly figure into the equation more than mine. And btw, contrary to the "don't ever pull a gun unless you pull the trigger" talk, you don't have to do that. It's clear that many incidents are defused all the time by the mere presentation of a firearm. Though of course you should be mentally prepared to use it if you pull it, doesn't mean that actually pulling the trigger is always necessary. - OS1 point

Near as I can tell, even though I do have various physical issues, I'm in the top 25% or better health/shape wise for my age group (knock on wood). Nonetheless, I am 66.5 and simply nowhere near as lithe or strong as I was even ten years ago, let alone of course back when. Which is simply to say, there's no doubt in my mind that I'll have a reasonable fear of serious injury or death if I have to face a beating -- and can assure you I don't intend to take one. Let the chips fall where they may afterwards. - OS1 point

A young cowboy from Montana goes off to college. Half way through the semester, having foolishly squandered all his money .... he calls home. "Dad," he says, "You won't believe what modern education is developing! They actually have a program here in Alabama that will teach our dog, Ole' Blue how to talk!" "That's amazing," his Dad says. "How do I get Ole' Blue in that program?" "Just send him down here with $1,000" the young cowboy says "and I'll get him in the course." So, his father sends the dog and $1,000. About two-thirds of the way through the semester the money again runs out. The boy calls home. "So how's Ole' Blue doing son?" his father asks. "Awesome, Dad, he's talking up a storm," he says, "but you just won't believe this -- they've had such good results they have started to teach the animals how to read!" "Read!?" says his father, "No kidding! How do we get Blue in that program?" "Just send $2,500, I'll get him in the class." The money promptly arrives. But our hero has a problem. At the end of the year, his father will find out the dog can neither talk, nor read. So he shoots the dog. When he arrives home at the end of the year, his father is all excited. "Where's Ole' Blue? I just can't wait to see him read something and talk!" "Dad," the boy says, "I have some grim news. Yesterday morning, just before we left to drive home, Ole' Blue was in the living room, kicked back in the recliner, reading the Wall Street Journal, like he usually does". "Then Ole' Blue turned to me and asked, so, is your daddy still messing around with that little redhead who lives down the street?" The father went white and exclaimed, "I hope you shot that lying dog before he talks to your Mother!" "I sure did, Dad!" "That's my boy!" The kid went on to law school, and now serves in Washington D.C. as a Congressman.1 point

Glad your cousin called you before he got ripped off. I hope the seller was just stupid and really thought the Mosin was that valuable, and later informed of it's real value so he would ask for a realistic price.
