1. Well, I got me a M1A Scout Squad for an insane price that I simply could NOT ignore. It's been in layaway now for about 30 days and finally pulled her out. I've got 7 used surplus checkmate "restricted" mags, 2 new surplus checkmate "restricted" mags, 2 new commercial checkmate mags, and 1 dust cover, er I mean 10 rd mag. I've already got my optic picked out, which is a Nikon M-308 that I know I can get for a good price and have a line on about 4-500rds of Silver State Armory 7.62×51 168gr SMK. I've been working my butt off and it finally paid off. Can't wait to get her to the range and report back.

 2. Excellent example of the rifles are still available but getting harder to find especially Finnish rifles an the carbine version like my Russian M44 which I gave $75 for out the door. Surplus ammo is still corrosive but new commercial steel case ammo is not, both are still berdan primed though. I keep most of my steel or brass case corrosive berdan primed ammo stashed away for a rainy day but I shoot some on occasion and it's no big deal to clean after shooting. Prvi Partizan and S & B make brass case boxer primer ammo, the knockoff brands are Wolf Gold and Winchester whcih are a few dollars more per box but it's the same brass with a different headstamp. As to reloading I started reloading for my Mosins as soon as reloadable brass became available. I purchase a couple hundred pieces of Prvi Partizan and Winchester brass for around $36 per hundred you can still get the Prvi at Graf & Sons for around $46 per hundred. Recently my brother and myself were able to get a quanity of once fired Prvi and Winchester 54r brass for a commercial reloader we know as it was mixed in with his barrels of range brass he was buying for his business. We probably got around 500 or more once fired cases each for 10 cents per case. Although I have J bullets I prefer to shoot cast lead out of my Mosins as it much cheaper and there just as if not more accurate for plinking, target shooting and hunting purposes. 170 gr. cast lead loads. My Mosin and the first five shot test group I shot with the above load at 50 yds. 6. No apology necessary bursaguy. Memphis crime is out hand, but most locals know that the victims almost always know the perpetrator. There are exceptions like the incident with the OPs buddy and they usually occur in apartment complexes or malls. I get irritated because some of the very kids who like to crap on Memphis live in smaller cities hunkered down in bunkers that would put some armories to shame. What are they afraid of? Obviously crime is everywhere and if you live in or around large cities there will be higher concentrations of crime, especially if that city has a large population of people who are poor and/or uneducated. I'm glad that the utopia comment made you think. Because as much as Memphis may scare a lot of our members, it appears by the number of weapons that they own, they are equally afraid of something in their own communities.

 9. I wouldn't buy one. But ya gotta give Taurus credit. They're thinking outside the box, innovating and have to stones to try it. And that right there is what American industry needs.

 10. I don't see it. This is a square blocky design sure, but those were and are blatant attempts at disguising a gun as something else, this just happens to be squarish. I don't think this is something I'm interested in, but kudos to Taurus for breaking the mold anyway instead of adding one more section of rail to a 1911 and calling it a new gun.

 13. I just looked up the Thermos press. Very nice! They are both very smooth and clean, for sure. The Aeropress only makes a cup at a time, so that may be a consideration. However, it takes only about 30 seconds to make a cup once your water is at temp, so if you're not the type to be in a hurry for a cup, that may not be an issue for you. Water temp is critical for making an outstanding cup of coffee with both of these methods. Ah, the good ole coffee bong! I still have one of these, albeit the plastic version from Bodum. I loved using it at work because people would always be like, "What the heck is that thing?"

 14. Now before you start cryin and git your powder wet, I'm just kiddin.  I write slogans for billboard signs for a livin, and I'm up late because I have to come up with a good one for Quality Month to inspire employees at a  Japanese manufacturing plant in the US. It's been a long day, and all I can think of so far is     "We've Upped Our Quality, Up Yours"   Its catchy all right, but I don't think it will fly.  :shake:

 17. The problem in Memphis is the voters that keep electing politicians that refuse to truly address the issues here. If the citizens would put their racist BS to the side and actually elect people that will work toward fixing these problems instead of voting based on skin color, Memphis would be a little better place to live... That being said, if you think you're safe in your neck of the woods and that trouble cant find you, might want to think again...

 19. Those who want a longer rifle season and to use these single shot rifles have to realize TWRA is managing the resource. If we extend these seasons and make it easier for more people to kill more deer, the resource will be depleted. Would I like to hunt the first two weeks of Nov with a rifle...hell yes, is it good deer management, No. And I know TWRA has their flaws but in the end they are trying to manage deer populations, and fund it through license sales.

 23. We've talked about the guys that go to Walmart and buy up the 22's for normal price and sell them for 400-500% profit. I stopped in at the new Bud's in Sevierville last weekend. The sign on the door said that they have 22's $10/50. We ding the guys on Armslist for doing this. Why don't we boycott gunshops that are doing it. Armslist drops the add. If gunstores stop being patronized they would have to straighten their act out. Now before you start getting on me about them being able to make a profit, If you feel that way stop complaining about the guys on places like armslist that are keeping the price of 22's up.   OK, I figure I'm about to get hammered, so FLAME ON!

 31. Diatomaceous earth (DE) for dog flea/tick control....Google this phrase   A few dollar/pound at Amazon; maybe as low a $1/pound when you buy in bulk   Add a tea spoon to the dog food 3X/day for the first week.  Reduce to 0.5 tsp/meal after the 2nd week.   Rub some powder to the dog fur for the first 4 days.  On the 5th day...I guarantee you won't find any tick on the dog anymore.   Drop a tick/flea in a clear container with DE...shake...they will dryout/die within 5min.   Stuff is safe....I sometimes mixed it with water and drink it to reduce cholesterol.   Yes I'm shocking you.  Google it and find out for yourself.   Being using it for 2.5years.   Also killed spider/cockroach....by drying out the insect....and molecularly cutting them to pieces.  DE is like sharp glasses to exoskeleton insects.   Will dry-out and wear out your skin.

 33. Glad he is ok as well, hope I never have to deal with that situation.  Us Memphians tend to be a little sensitive as it seems sometimes people go out of their way to emphasize that something happened in Memphis as if it would be a statistical improbability that same event could ever happen outside our city limits...

 35. For me a french press is the only way to go. Sure I drink substandard coffee in a pinch, but only in a pinch. Unfortunately, I've gone through several carafes in the past few years. I love them, but they are so delicate. Finally, I found a stainless steel french press by Thermos. Life is good!

 36. Sorry to hear about your friend but from the way it went down they would have left with his GUN, car, money and keys. If he didn't notice the until they had guns up against his body even if he was armed he would not have been able to use it in defense. Maybe a back up on his leg after they got in the car might have had some effect but then that may have also got him killed. Hope they catch the bad guys. I wonder why any one would ever want to live in Memphis to begin with. Everyone I know that has moved from there that was born and raised their don't even want to be taken back there to be buried when they die....................

 37. There is no political capital re gun issues with this administration, it has in fact been anti-firearms since the swearing in ceremony.  Case in point, Goins' Parks Bill of last year.  Mr. Tillman, (former Marine) is as gun friendly as any legislator, they killed his bill before it got off the ground. The sitting governor intends to run for President, and having guns assoicated with him in any fashion is anathema to his perception that only "Moderates" can succeed in that endeavor, (he has to attract those female Democrat voters you understand, all those Moms Against Anything Hairy Chested and Even Remotely Resembling Conservatism). And by the way, the NRA would not recognize a decent Tennessee specific gun bill if it bit them in the hinney.

 38. I bought the adapter so we don't have to use the K cups anymore. The only time we buy them is when family is visiting because it's easier.   Keurig's are known to break after a year or less but ours has been going strong for 3.5. I hear their customer service is pretty good though.

 39. Write me down for the Keurig. Been using one for years. The coffee is expensive, but I just live with that.

 40. Keurig seems to be being pushed by WM at the moment. However, I already had a Senseo for several years and the pods are significantly cheaper than the k-cups. The Senseo has been rocking like a champ and I have a spare in reserve (Philips had a deal for a while where you just paid the shipping) but when it's time for something new, I'm going to go for this one which can do cups, pods or straight ground coffee and gets better reviews than the Keurig machines. http://www.amazon.com/MCU-Single-Multi-Use-Coffee-Brewer/dp/B009PLQ5H2

 42.   *some* of the high end stuff can make a smaller group than that at 50 yards -- these are expensive competition guns for professionals, yes.  But they can do it, and the small # of shooters who can pull it off need such a gun.   What you are paying for is effectively a hand made gun.  Its hand fitted every which way, the trigger job is carefully done, and more.   Most people don't need all that.  Just like most people don't need a $10k competition "sniper" rifle.   Just like most folks don't need a 1/4 million dollar sports car.  Anyone who has the cash can buy pricy stuff ... whether they need it or not.   A few people "need" it ... they get paid to win competitions, its a tool for their job.

 46. http://www.gunsholstersandgear.com/2013/10/22/colt-re-introduce-double-action-revolvers/ Sounds like it can. I work in machining; we can make anything and we can make the best in the world. We just can’t (nor can anyone else) make the best and make it cheap. A Python target market wouldn’t be price buyers. With S&W at or over $1K for their high end revolvers the market is obviously there. Gunsmiths can be trained just like we train Machinists, Mold Makers and Die Makers; we don’t have as many, but we can still train the best. Advances in CNC machine tool accuracies coupled with technologies like EDM, CNC grinding and laser; can reduce hand fitting.
