  1. I don't know a lot. But, I do know that anybody that open caries a Hi Point should probably be kicked in the balls.

  3. No, a 1911 will kill 1,911 people just by being in the same room. THAT'S the power of the .45 ACP, which we all know stands for Armored Cop Penetrator

  4. I prefer the glock, but only because I like things smaller, lighter, and more simplistic. I probably have 10k rounds or more through Berettas with only minor troubles probably associated with bad magazines. I have about as many through Glocks with the only problems that I can probably contribute to ammo. New Glock mags are about as cheap as used Beretta mags with both being readily available. Holsters are common for both as well. I shoot Glocks better and most people do only because of the lighter, shorter trigger. Shoot them both if you have the chance; you will not go wrong with either.

  5. I am a native Memphian, and have lived here all my life. I am quite fond of the city and most of the people. I have a great deal of civic pride and love to watch the Tigers and the Grizzlies, love Graceland and the Pyramid (which will soon be the worlds largest Bass Pro Store), all the great blues music, and all of the fabulous BBQ places. It's really not as terrible as some folks would lead you to believe. But, there are places and times when you need to watch and be aware of your surroundings. A similar event took place here in an apartment complex almost two years ago strangely enough also a Sunday night, but that young man was carrying a concealed handgun and was well prepared when the balloon went up. When the two young thugs threatened to kill him if he didn't give up his wallet, he pretended to reach for his wallet but instead drew his pistol and shot and killed one of the robbers. He shot at the other one but he turned tail and ran away. I hope your friend is okay, and that he understands what happened here might just as easily take place in any city such as Knoxville, Nashville, Chattanooga or any place in between. Memphis just happened to be where your friend was when this event took place.

  8. Just a piece of friendly advice from a retired Taxidermist....If the Taxidermist you choose wants to take a year or more to do your mount (as some say and or do) ask them to defer your 1/2 $ down until he's ready to start work on your mount, and you'd be surprised how quick he'll get to it. Your money will earn better interest in a bank for a year and not your Taxidermist pocket!   Dave

  10. Different strokes for different folks. I even know a fella who OCs a HiPoint at the gas station. Maybe all he can afford, maybe all he wants to lose in an evidence locker if he has to shoot some punk ass robber.

  15.   That's how I roll. Definitely is the easiest way to get good coffee.      I've had coffee from Chemex or similar setups. It was outstanding! The only thing, in my opinion, that comes close is the AeroPress and a temperature controlled water heater. In fact, I'd have to do a side by side comparison to determine which is better.      I view coffee in much the same way I view guns, motorcycles, and beer. It really doesn't matter what you drink as long as you like it and it works for you.

  16. Gosh this place is full of coffee connoisseurs for sure. Now me I guess I stand out in this crowd. I have a Mr Coffee with an automatic timer on it which brews me up a great strong cup of Folgers Custom Roast that I buy on sale at Sam's and the canister says it make 380 cups of great coffee. Mr Coffee is about 11 years old and works great. It says it makes 12 cups but their cups and my cups just don't match up so really it makes 8.................. :pleased: :pleased: :pleased:

  18. Having been a band geek all through school, I learned that the sounds that comes from the instrument is 90% player, 10% instrument.  Can a super quality instrument make a superb player sound that little bit better?  Absolutely yes.  If you give that same instrument to a hack like me, I'll still sound like a hack.    My experience with the accuracy of guns is similar.  However, I still find the "tolerances no CNC machine can match" line in the Les Baer commercials quite amusing, mostly because it's complete nonsense.

  21.   *some* of the high end stuff can make a smaller group than that at 50 yards -- these are expensive competition guns for professionals, yes.  But they can do it, and the small # of shooters who can pull it off need such a gun.   What you are paying for is effectively a hand made gun.  Its hand fitted every which way, the trigger job is carefully done, and more.   Most people don't need all that.  Just like most people don't need a $10k competition "sniper" rifle.   Just like most folks don't need a 1/4 million dollar sports car.  Anyone who has the cash can buy pricy stuff ... whether they need it or not.   A few people "need" it ... they get paid to win competitions, its a tool for their job.

  22. NASCAR could use some more colorful drivers like the late Tim Richmond instead of boring personalities like Jimmie Johnson.  With the positive changes made (Gen 6 car & new chase format) I think they're going a step backwards next year by reducing horsepower, lowering the spoiler, and lowering the differential gear ratios to make the racing "closer."  Sounds like restrictor plate racing for all tracks.  Will lead to more wrecks but I guess that's what keeps the fans entertained.  :squint:

  25. We've talked about the guys that go to Walmart and buy up the 22's for normal price and sell them for 400-500% profit. I stopped in at the new Bud's in Sevierville last weekend. The sign on the door said that they have 22's $10/50. We ding the guys on Armslist for doing this. Why don't we boycott gunshops that are doing it. Armslist drops the add. If gunstores stop being patronized they would have to straighten their act out. Now before you start getting on me about them being able to make a profit, If you feel that way stop complaining about the guys on places like armslist that are keeping the price of 22's up.   OK, I figure I'm about to get hammered, so FLAME ON!

  28.   I handled a co-worker's Voyage today and I'm not sure if I would pay the additional $80 over the Paperwhite but that's just me.   (Be sure to handle both.)  Regarding the wifi/3G format, unless you are prone to get a wild hair to download books away from a wifi connection, I wouldn't pay the additional $70 to get the 3G.

  32. I don't want to ruffle any feathers but, if TWO BG'S get the drop on you and TWO pistols closely trained on you or pressed on you... You're pretty well screwed.   With your buddies experience I'd say he was better off being unarmed as a minimum his handgun would have been taken too and/or offended them and used on him? I doubt the punks would frisk him for an ankle holster but given the situation and them fleeing, I doubt it would have done any good anyway.   By your description, it sounds like even situational awareness would not have been quick enough. Sometimes no matter how alert / careful we are, it's just not good enough and the BG'S always have the advantage of surprise.   If that happened to me I would be counting my blessings. These days criminals seem to be more prone to shoot you out of fear, needing a drug fix, meanness or lack of anyone to testify against them in court.   Glad he survived in check.

  34. What does it matter how other people spend their money? The idea that low end is just as good is laughable. I've had low end Colts and now a high end Ed Brown. The Colts cannot compare, but I'm not going to give a crap about whether someone else buys a Rock Island or not. That's their business.

  35. For me a french press is the only way to go. Sure I drink substandard coffee in a pinch, but only in a pinch. Unfortunately, I've gone through several carafes in the past few years. I love them, but they are so delicate. Finally, I found a stainless steel french press by Thermos. Life is good!

  36. Mom's Technivorm is at least as good as the French press if you want to drop some cash on a coffee machine. I bought hers as a gift, don't think I'd spend that on myself.

  37. Sorry to hear about your friend but from the way it went down they would have left with his GUN, car, money and keys. If he didn't notice the until they had guns up against his body even if he was armed he would not have been able to use it in defense. Maybe a back up on his leg after they got in the car might have had some effect but then that may have also got him killed. Hope they catch the bad guys. I wonder why any one would ever want to live in Memphis to begin with. Everyone I know that has moved from there that was born and raised their don't even want to be taken back there to be buried when they die....................

  43. I got up early this morning in hopes of catching another glimpse of the big one that I caught a few glimpses of yesterday evening. I wanted to get in the blind at least an hour before daylight to ensure everything was completely settled back down by daylight. The guy that hunts the farm next door saw that I had put a food plot in so he decided that he'd put a stand up about 30 yards away to try to catch deer on their way in (yea that's a b!tch move) but anyways, they decided to drop someone off with the 4 wheeler at that stand as the sky was starting to light up, so much for letting everything settle down huh... I was having a very hard time staying awake listening to the rain falling on the roof of the blind but a doe running at full speed caught my eye. She came straight over the fence from his direction headed straight towards me then made a hard left and into the trees she went. I wasn't sure if she'd busted him and was just getting out of Dodge or if a buck was after her but just in case I flipped up the plexiglass window and before I got it latched I saw another doe coming in at a fast trot//sprint with what looked like antlers growing from her back. The I realized there was a buck with his head up her rear end so I stuck the rifle out the window and had plans of grunting to stop him long enough for a shot but that wasn't happening. I tried grunting, whistling and finally I tried screaming all of which he paid zero attention to, I mean he never broke stride. I wasn't sure if he was the big one (he wasn't :( or not but I knew he was big enough that I was going to shoot him anyways so I took a quick shot as he ran by me. He ended up running about 30 yds down the hill into the woods before he fell dead. Here he is,

  48.   It wasn't that long ago that Colorado was pretty solid too. I remember envying Colorado's gun laws. They can carry on campus. They can open carry without a permit. And until very recently, there were no mag limits, etc. I'm sure plenty of folks in Colorado felt it would never happen there.    My only point is, don't assume it won't happen to you and go to sleep at the wheel. The anti-gunners don't know the meaning of the word "rest."
