I thought you guys would enjoy this. Here is a picture of the 2nd Amendment Foundation proudly displaying the check they had cut from the City of Chicago as a result of being awarded legal fees ($399,950 to be exact) they incurred to successfully fight and win the McDonald v. Chicago case in 2010. They posted it on their Twitter feed to kick off their public relations campaign in support of their new lawsuit against Illinois regarding restrictions in there nascent CCW law. Here's hoping they bring home another win, and another big fat check!4 points

One of my grandsons is getting an average of 50 to 60 hours a week now and has been for about a month. He asked one of his supervisors if they knew how long the overtime was gonna last and all the guy could say was he had no idea. My grandson called me gripping and bitching about all the overtime and how he had no time on weekends to do anything but rest up on Sunday for the next week. I told him, " Do you remember 4 years ago when you were working for all those Temp Services and barely scraping by and worried all the time about being able to pay your bills. I do because it was me loaning you a few bucks here and there to get you through the week. I finally had a friend of mine get you that job you have now and you have gotten three raises, a newer car, checking account and savings account and your own place by listening to ole Grandpaw. Now listen one more time to him. Shut up, quit your bitching and enjoy all the overtime you can get because over time was always a blessing to me and you will have plenty of time to spend the money when the overtime ends." He said , "That is why I always call you instead of Mom and Tommy Grandpaw." They agree with me all the time and you give me pep talks."............................... :rofl:4 points

I carry a Glock 26 condition 1 in a Bianchi Carrylok holster. The gun does not come out of the holster unless I’m cleaning it. My two and a half year old impressed me a while back - when my 16 year old asked him what that was on my belt, he replied sternly "That’s a gun. It is not a toy. Don't touch it." It’s obviously never too early to teach kids about guns.3 points

Well I finished this monster... 1/4" thick 1095 carbon steel heat treated to RC60. The blade is 10" long with an overall length of about 16 1/4". It's got olive green canvas micarta scales with light grey G10 liners. I has jimping on the spine forward of the handle and the scales are mechanically fastened as well as epoxied. It weighs nearly 2 1/2 pounds. :lol:2 points

After some input in another thread, I did a few things to my old bow and decided to get out and try a little turkey hunting this morning. My buddies farm has turkey's everywhere most of the time so with a little patience, you can almost always expect to get a shot. Just sat in a small popup blind and put out a decoy. Saw 4 come down from roost and another 15 walk from a lower field about 70 yards away. It was kind of neat to watch some of the 15 fly up in the trees and walk around. The shot below is from my Iphone through my binoculars. A bit hard to see, but pretty cool. A group of 4 came back around and I was able to get a shot at 11-12yds out, so another successful day. Not a huge one, but should be good eating. Now to brine overnight and get the smoker ready. Now on to looking for the big boy deer!2 points

This knife has black G10 scales with grey liners and has those "cracks" etched into the steel. It came out pretty darn good. It was double etched with ferric chloride then sanded with 1200 grit paper to obtain that silver-grey color on the blade. I don't know if you can tell by the picture but the scales have green highlights in the grinds. It has jimping on the spine and is made from 5/32" carbon steel and professionally heat treated to a 59-60RC. Bike.... Ya may have missed the point; and i'll confess to not makin it too clear... The point is that three things contribute to incapacitating animals (...yes, and hoodlums...)... Bulllet placement, wound channel width, and penetration; ergo the "white hunter" point... The "white hunters" needed for the great creatures they hunted, often at close range, to be incapacitated quickly... That was accomplished by a quick loss of blood, hitting of a vital organ (... heart...) and penetrating deeply to make the wound channel and blood loss very quick... The sad truth is that it's the same way with humans... God forbid than any of us would have to stop a hoodlum from hurting us or someone in our care.... Forgive us old grumps for being incredulous at the "under-penetration" thing; but it's true... I happen to be in the camp that believes that there is plenty of snake oil baloney out there conjured up by the ammo folks to sell "premium self defense" rounds... Hollow point rounds have been around a long time, you could even buy them when i started reloading in the seventies; and, yes, they were available for both pistol and rifle calibers... The fact is that there is nothin new under the sun; but lots of folks seem to be enamoured by these "advanced" bullets... As others have opined, the Glasser slug has been the only real breakthru in self-defense ammo... The "new, improved hollowpoints are simply old wine in new bottles... The problem with hollow points is that they can mushroom too quickly and do the "flesh wound" thing... Ya simply cannot deliver "flesh wounds" and efficiently stop whatever varmint ya are shootin at; be it four legged or two legged... Michael Brown was shot 7 times if i remember right... He ran away from a cruiser, turned around, and almost made it back to the cruiser before he fell... I'm willin to bet that he was shot with 40 caliber "magic bullet" hollowpoints... By the way, "all situations ain't different"... Sadly, they are all the same --- you are tryin to stop the threat... That may mean quickly stopping folks that may be high on dope or just plain mean is serious business... At the end of the day, that's what this is all about... Here's hopin that no one has to face that terrible task.... Forgive us for being insensitive... We were, however, trying to be truthful... leroy2 points

Haha! The way some of you folks talk about Antioch, I can't imagine what would happen if you were dropped in Compton, Liberty City, the Bronx, Detroit, south Boston, or some Chicago sewer. :-D2 points

Well brother's and sister's after reading your responses on another thread, I made a move on my first AR ever. I went with the Ruger AR 556. It is SWEET! I've done made some noise with it. Thanks to all who steered me in this direction! Dave1 point

I'm just the opposite, I hate the stubby ones, and use the regular size ones exclusively. I also tried the AFG for a bit, but that didn't blow me away either. Though I didn't get to try it on a rail longer than carbine length rail.1 point

Classic arms for barrels starting at $75. I have two, they're fine so far. AIM surplus for BCG. You can get a nitride or Nib for cheap. Just get a standard one and even cheaper. Again, I have two, they're fine. Brownels for upper parts; dust cover, forward assist. PSA for pretty much all the rest.1 point

It was an Uncle Mikes with the little mag pouch in front and a belt clip. I was bad s##t lol. I had a Taurus 24/7 in .45. I kinda miss that gun but when I found the glory of Glocks I never looked back1 point

Depending on how large of one you want, here is a great recipe. This fills a 3 quart pyrex dish. Can be halved for a smaller dish. 1# venison burger 1# hamburger 1# pork sausage 2 eggs 1/2 to whole onion (or 2 packs onion soup mix) Splash of milk - mom and wife say they eyeball it so who knows how much Breadcrumbs - 1 cup up to 1.5 cups depending on how firm you want Shake of garlic powder - approx 1 tablespoon Worcestershire or other seasoning to taste Cook at 350, drain any grease off every 20 minutes or so. For topping, mix ketchup, Worcestershire, and brown sugar. They have no measurements available for this either so mix and taste. Wife is guessing about 1/2 cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire and brown sugar. If too runny add more sugar or ketchup.1 point

In any Meatloaf whether you use beef or Deer you need to add some Oats or Cracker Crumbs and a couple eggs mixed with the meat. Mead it all together really well along with a can of tomato sauce and add chopped onions and bell pepper if desired. Make it into a loaf and bake about 50 minutes in preheated over @ 375 degrees. Yea I do cook a lot................ :ugh: Mother had 5 sons and no daughters so she taught all 5 sons how to cook about anything and wash dishes.1 point

Yep. I have some USGI mags, but never use them. Pretty much all PMAGs, and Lancers for the calibers that PMAGS don't like. I will use GI mags in my A2, because it's all milspec. Cracker will come around. He's just a little slow since he got blown up. :rofl:1 point

That's why I never got married or had kids. I like having disposable income to spend on gun stuff among other perks. :D If you want, you can PM me your address and I'll send you a few old school mags. I'm phasing them out one at a time with P-Mags and can send some your way. Consider it a welcome to the AR club present.1 point

Bike... i couldnt help but notice ya may be a bit miffed... Ya shouldn't be that way; no one here meant to hurt your feelings... You asked a question and got an answer that evidently hurt your feelings... That shouldn't be; because it wasn't meant to be... As to the "all situations are the same" comment; don't take it out of context... The situation is that you are trying to stop a threat quickly; the discussion is how to do it the best... That is, in fact, the situation in every defensive situation... As to the "one gun question"; i (...and others here, i would bet...) have got all kinds... I've spent lots of time burning powder thru rifles, shotguns, and mostly big bore revolvers; and have spent a bit of time experimenting myself... I'm a relatively old geezer and I figure i've burned powder into the 10 thousands, if not hundred thousands of rounds thru some pretty serious ordinance over the last 45 years or so... You are free to believe and do whatever you want concerning your choices, and so am i.... You load your smoke pole the way you want, and i'll do mine the same; but don't get bent because I, or others, don't happen to agree with your methods... Let's agree to disagree on this; and join in the sincere hope than none here have to find out first hand how this shootin another human thing works... leroy1 point

I used to work a LOT of OT. Some years I would make 50% more than my salary on OT. I hated the hours away from family, but the money was great. It did get me out of the workforce a couple of years earlier by paying off almost all of my bills and built a bigger nestegg than if I had not worked it. I would do it again gladly.1 point

Confirmed it is $11.97 plus the 10 cent tax per box. I picked up three last night at the Sweetwater store, there was no shelf tag for it. Steel case non corrosive with very nice quality fmj bullets and primers in a two row plastic snap on holder.1 point

I have a funny feeling that the airlines are behind it being opposed it for financial reasons. Too many decisions of government are based on someone making or loosing money for it to be discounted.1 point

Just go to a store and buy one. By the time you pay $20-$30 to transfer it and $17 to ship it, you are probably not going to save any money on a $200 gun. I am a big proponent of online buying, but for little to no difference, I would just buy it near you somewhere.1 point

The first handgun I ever shot was my father's Glock when I was around 10 years old. So, I do have a slight childhood draw to the Glocks for nostalgic reasons, but I handled the M&P in a store the other day and I was dumbfounded at how comfortable it was. But, the Gen 4 Glocks have the interchangeable back straps too. Guys, I think I'm going through an mid-20s post-divorce life crisis. Amazing what not being married can do for your bank account.1 point

Yep, locked, cocked, ready to rock. Condition 1 is the only way to carry. A crazed knife wielder can clear 21 feet in a couple of seconds easily, those are seconds you could have spent acquiring a target rather than charging your weapon.1 point

I seem to remember back in my Army Daze, having a "25 yard battle sight zero". I'll zero it at 50 and be happy with it. I'll do some varmint hunting with it and keep it around for defensive purposes. Thanks for the info OS! Dave1 point

As a Columbia resident, this hits home hard with me. I can't really express my feelings exactly. May God lay his hands on this young mans hurting family, and may the ones that killed him truly be punished as they should. The court system is not strong enough for them. Stay vigilant, my friends1 point

Btw. Your age is showing when you make a statement like that. Instead of saying "going to the station to fill up my car, vehicle, etc" you made sure to make mention of a 67 Mustang. Thats a mark of someone immature looking for attention. If thats the case, strapping on a knife will get you the attention you seek from both sides of the law. Make sure you can back it up, both by knowing the legalities of carrying a blade when your speaking to the law, and how to use it if you get confronted by someone who has hurting you on their mind. Otherwise it will only serve to bring you much grief and woe.1 point

I don't harbor any ill-will against people who use Crossbows when they are legal. BUT I was behind some one the other day in line that was buying one. Salesman was showing him the lighted scope etc.... I don't think they should be legal except with a medical/disabled exemption like many states did in the past. It's a rifle that shoots short arrows. But then again...I am hunting with a Longbow :)1 point

I think that's a big part of their decision. Legislators love money in the budget to spend no matter where it comes from, the thought of loosing any amount scares them. All politicians are like a 20 year old girl with a new credit card at a clothing store.1 point

Thanks Luke, that would be awesome. But you already know that even if I'm not out there, you give me a shout if you have to chase another one down like last year! HA HA I'll come help you whether I'm hunting it or not. I know you had to have been flat wore out after that ordeal! Crazy, I think that was our first conversation on here, when you posted that you'd shot it and it went over 47 mountains and 15 bluffs and 5 creeks...well not that many but I'm sure it felt like it :)1 point
