My kids are on Fall break, and I took off 3 days this week from work, so my two older boys (age 10 and 9) and I were suppose to have gone squirrel hunting and target practice yesterday (Thursday) on a my uncle's farm up in Sevier Co. My father was under the weather, so I scrubbed the idea. The kids were disappointed. Then an idea popped in my head, heck, just take the boys and some guns down to the local indoor shooting range. I shoot there often, never seen any kids, and honestly never considered taking my own there. Its dirty, poor lighting, and sometimes busy. Its only $5. When we got there, no one was on the range. :pleased: After the boys were given a quick dos and donts on the range, and after they stopped playing with the target switch on the panel , we started off shooting an Anschutz 1450 (youth 22LR) with a 5 shot mag and with a hunting scope. I made a competition between the three of us. That was a blast. Next up, they wanted to shoot some handguns, I brought a Glock 17, Sig P228 and Glock 20. I hadn't shot the 20 in sometime, and I wanted to try some reloads that I worked up. No the boys did not even try. In fact, after shooting the 22LR rifle for 30 min, they were gun shy to try the 17 and 228, so I ended up shooting those, but heck, it was fun anyway. I wished I had brought some 22LR pistols. Then we moved on to the Colt M4. Dang it, my Eotech batteries were dead, and I had no extras with me. We shot a partial mag only, that was fun. Then I had one more gun to shoot, it was 410 O/U that my oldest son had been given, so we shot that a couple of times, and this gun sure does kick harder than I expected for a 410. So much so, my son complained in a good way, and the stories of how his gun kicked like a mule, should say kick like a goat since it was 410, were born, and I think he told 5 people later that day. After we ran through the guns, we went back to the Anschutz and finished out another box of 50 rounds. After we were done, I asked the boys if they had fun, and got the group "yes". What really made my day, several hours after our trip, my oldest son asked what we were doing tomorrow, and I said I don't know why, fishing, hiking, or something, he said because I want to go back shooting, and Dad can you bring a 22LR pistol this time? :woohoo: So unless the wife has a plan, I am taking the boys back to the same indoor range, and we are going to shoot 22LR pistols, and I am bringing another set of 22LR rifles, with open sights! Just like that Trace Adkins song, "She Thinks We Are Fishing", my boys think we went shooting yesterday, what really happened, the boys made great memories by spending a day with Dad, Guns, Bullets, Smoke, and little lead, what a unforgettable memory was created in their noggins! Men spend time with your kids!!!!3 points

This is just a reminder to always, Always, ALWAYS wear your eye protection!!!!! A couple of weekends ago I was shooting my 7.62mm NATO Navy Mk2 Mod 1 Garand in a local Vintage Military Rifle Match and this happen...... The round was an Atomic Match Ammo that I picked up at the CMP south store in 2012. This reloaded ammo uses once fired military brass with an Nosler 168gr OTM bullet. It is loaded for the M1 and M14. I have fired several hundred rounds of this ammo with no issues...., and will continue to do so. This thread is not to bad-mouth the ammo manufacturer, it is a warning to all of us not to forget that there is an explosion going on inside that firearm that is very near our eyes. The blowout happened during the single load, prone, slow-fire stage of the match. This was the 15th of 20 rounds to be fired. When the shot was taken a very noticeable boom was heard and the recoil was much stronger than normal for this ammo. I am happy to report that I maintained position, had good follow through and even with the round doing something odd - - - it was still a hit in the 9 Ring! AND - - - My eye protection was covered in black soot and fine particles! :stunned: At first I figured that due to the sound and recoil that I had fired a double-loaded round. 173rdABN, who was also firing the match, found the brass and it did not appear to show any overpressure signs. The design of the Garand limits the likelihood of an out-of-battery firing, so after an inspection of the bore, bolt and operating rod I finish the remaining five rounds. Wear your Eye Protection. Safety Rules are written in Blood, or in the case maybe a lost of sight. Stay Safe, and I'll See You On the Firing Line!3 points

Yes, I have lived all over this great nation and never have I seen the disrespect for people from another state I have witnessed in Tennessee. Now, to be fair most of the people here are good people just as they are in most other states. But the loud mouths are like bad cops or bad teachers or bad lawyers; there aren’t a lot of them but they sure do make a lot of noise. So, one of those same types of haters wrote a BS article about the south. Cry me a river. The North South East and West all have no shortage of idiots; but to start disrespecting whole groups of people because where they live is ridiculous. EDIT: I don't think this guy is an "Yankee".2 points

Because they're stupid. They don't realize that their own stupidity is what caused the crap hole that they came from to become a crap hole.2 points

What scares me more than anything else is people from the liberal states moving here. I have met a couple of people from "up north" and they were both talking about how they wanted to change things here to be more like the liberal state they left. They like the cheap cost of living here but hated leaving their liberal, utopian paradise. Why can't people leave well enough alone.2 points

True, but in most cases where a home is targeted for firearms, cash or drugs, the burglar has inside information on the stash either through contact with the victim or third party. Personally, I don't have any signs out which suggest I'll shoot intruders for two reasons: 1. I don't want it to be used against me in a civil case, 2. It's tacky to do in a nice neighborhood. I have a security alarm, a tasteful sign in the flower bed indicating alarm service, and a man eating dog. This is more than enough deterrent. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I sold my last Kahr PM9 2 years ago when I picked up my Shield. I thought I had moved on, then today at a LGS I look down and see a new 2 tone PM9. It had a sticker price of $579, which I thought was pretty cheap for a PM9. The guy saw me looking at it and said he would make me a deal on it if I wanted it and was really interested. I really didn't think I wanted it since I was happy with my current 2 carry guns. Then I held it.... why did I do that!! He said make me an offer, I said $450 out the door he said okay without even blinking - WTF. 5 minutes later I'm walking out with it. Guess I got another one to break in and put some NS on maybe even cerakote that shiny slide since I'm in so little on it. I really just went in to see if they had any blue label Glocks in stock - just one of those days I guess.1 point

I bought an LC9 not long after they first came out and it never grew on me and I hated the trigger, I ended up selling it. I was recently at my LGS and had to check the new "s" out, much improved trigger but something else caught my eye. The Bersa BP9cc. I would say the trigger is even better than the LC9s and it also fit me better. The corners are not as smooth but the feel and range time was awesome (WWB). I'm very pleased with it. Haven't ran hollow points through it yet. The one I bought was used and came with one extra mag. From what I understand a new purchase comes with 2 mags, a plastic box and priced less than the Ruger. I did check on finding another mag for the Bersa, at $48ea  and holsters aren't as common compared to the Ruger plus the mags are only $29. but I like it.1 point

This. Foreigners that move to Tennessee just want the lower cost of living and pretty scenery but they insist on bringing their ingrained foolishness with them. I'll not even go into the rising cost of living this influx is actually causing.1 point

I've read that the quickest way to do a full 5 reload using a strip is to put two on the strip, skip one, and then three together. The idea is to load two, two, and then one. The skipped space allows for easier loading of the first two rounds. It seems to work during practice. I ended up carrying 6 rounds on the strip in case I fumble and drop a round on the ground.1 point

Plenty of "yankees" are in the military and have fought in wars; past and present. There may be more southerners per capita enlisting right now, but it's no runaway statistic. As far as the study, Tennessee, probably Kentucky, and maybe the Carolina's are the only places in the south I could see myself living. That's just for me though. I know everybody is different in what they want from an area. I think a lot of you would like Maine, some parts of Vermont and especially New Hampshire with it's freedom friendly tax and gun policies if you got to know those states. Massachusetts tends to bring the stereotype of the region out of whack. If you can stand the cold winters, New England has some beautiful land and a lot to offer.1 point

I use Bianchi Speed strips and have for a long time. I down load to 5 rounds and leave them full length as it adds a bit more fumble-proof "handle" to grasp. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/243389/bianchi-580-speed-strips-38-special-and-357-magnum-package-of-2-plastic-black But my little J Frame is almost always a second, not primary, carry gun. But for a non-permissive environment? It'll do. :pleased:1 point

Considering that over 1/3 of US homes have firearms, I hardly think knowledge of one existing in a home based on a sign indicating the resident's willingness to use violence would embolden a person to target that house. I would say it is more likely that a person would be deterred by a sign which suggest the occupants are willing to kill intruders. Nothing is 100%, of course. Just like putting a security alarm sign in your yard won't deter 100%, doesn't mean it isn't effective. Of course it is. The whole point of taking active measures to deter crime is to appear a harder target than your neighbors. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I went from LC9 to LC9s and am thrilled. Night and day. I really couldn't shoot the hammer fired gun even acceptably well. I mean no matter how much I practiced, even dry firing with a laser, I would shoot 2 feet low at 10 yards. No problem hitting bulls-eyes with the 9S.1 point

This is exactly why I said "they don't". The ultimate solution for 22lr and other rimfire calibers to become widely available again is to raise the retail pricing to what the market will apparently bear, i.e. around 10-12 cents per round. When people are no longer able or comfortable paying that price, inventory will build and the price will settle in to whatever folks are willing to pay, keeping in mind that demand was pretty much meeting production before the latest round of craziness ...1 point

Yep, hang up a big sign that says "I have guns!" Like open carry, I've never understood that.1 point

Quick way to fix the EBT issues in this country... Create military style mess halls, if you're on welfare and need a free meal, you go to the 'mess hall' and they feed you. No TV's, just like it was in boot camp. Lots of people will get sick of that quick and find themselves a job to feed themselves.1 point

The problem with food assistance is there are few stipulations on what they can purchase. Red Bull? Really? All food assistance should be modeled on the WIC program. Red Bull and soda are not a valid use of my tax dollars.1 point

I don't believe the myth that poor folks are fat because they can't afford non-fattening foods. I believe this for two reasons: 1. I come from the Honey Boo Boo culture. My parents didn't have much money when I was growing up, but we were all skinny. We didn't keep sodas or fattening snacks in the house. Those things cost more money. When I see the poverty level folks filling their carts, they're filling it with crap I can't even afford. I buy the cheapest stuff I can find, yet somehow everyone in my household is thin. We don't have personal trainers, nutritionists or a gym membership. We've both got a bunch of overweight people in our families, so I deny that we are thin due to some magic metabolism ability that 1/3 of Americans don't have. Most of the people I grew up with are tipping their trailer over when they walk around. They don't have a pot to piss in, yet they can mainline Mountain Dew like it's cool. Not that I care about someone's life choices, I like jolly people; what bugs me are folks who are doing it on my dime, or look at me like I have some magical secret to not being obese that they aren't capable of tapping into. My wife an I put effort into it, and I'm sick of hearing whiny ass Americans complain that they can't achieve the same due to circumstances beyond their control. 2. I've been around the world; to countries without a gluttonous culture and countries where people are so damn poor they can't afford food. There aren't a bunch of fat people there. So unless Americans are genetically different than everyone outside our borders (they aren't), a whole bunch of people are full of crap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Since you like the Sig 238, but find that it snags too easily, then you should try a Sig 238 SAS (or 938 SAS). The SAS stands for "Sig Anti Snag" and they are sooooooo much smoother than the other models!!!1 point
