  5. I would suggest that if your friend wants to keep any type of decent relationship with his neighbors that you don't hunt deer in a subdivision. There are easy ways to deter deer from eating his flowers. an acre is very little area, bow or not. My advice, stick to the woods if you want to deer hunt. I go back to, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should. This is a very bad idea in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. I've worked for the .gov for about 20 years (military and local LE).   What drives me crazy is "We're equal opportunity!"  But then, there's a block on a job application about race. Why? If you're an EOE, and want to hire the best person for the job, why do you give a damn about what color they are?   Race questions on job apps should be removed if you're really wanting equal opportunity.

  9. I've been on the lookout for an older Remy 700 30.06 ADL or BDL for a couple of years. Recently found this BDL vintage 1996. It's in excellent condition and came with a Leupold 4.5x15 VX scope.

  10. Over the years the African Americans have been known by many different Classes or Nationalities of  people depending on who you ask. i am not trying to start an issue he so please don't take offense by my questions.   When I was a very young man growing up in West Chicago and having a lot of African American friends they were kind of offended if they were called Negro and they became wanting to be called Black so as time passed they were called Blacks And then as time passed by and the Civil Rights movement came and the Desegregation and  Discrimination laws were signed into effect by the President they took a new role as African Americans. Now here is where I get a little confused. If a person is born in America they are an American plain and simple  (well should be anyway).  I have friends that are of Irish descent  that were born here but they are not Irish Americans. They are Americans.   I have friends that were born here that are of German descent and they are not German Americans. They are Americans. I have friends that are of many different nationalities from generations past that have been born here and they are all Americans. I also have some African American friends that were born here and raised here but for some reason unbeknownst to me for some reason cannot just be Americans but must be African Americans.   Now with that said I do have one friend that is a true African American. He was born in Nigeria and is of Nigerian descent and came here as a child at 8 years old and became a legalized American Citizen at the age of 17. He and I were having lunch one day and he was talking about his and I asked him which he preferred to be known as and his reply was I am an American. I was an African and now I am an American were his words.   So now Since that lunch I have always wondered why Africa Americans that have been born here and raised here and educated here don't want to be called Americans but would rather be called African Americans. I ask my friend from Nigeria and he had no answer for the question. He just said he was very proud to be an American............Just seeking input and thought on this issue............................... :ugh:  :ugh:

  12. Congrats, I did it 42 days ago and it is nice. I tell folks I have 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday every week. No more M-F. I was going to hold out until January, but it wasn't any fun anymore and a fellow told me years ago that was when it was time to hang it up. I don't even think about the crap that used to be on my mind in the middle of the night or when I was hunting or fishing. I had some people tell me prior to retiring that it wasn't what is was cut out to be. Well I say BS!! I know that I have to stay busy, but heck I got 2-3 years worth of honey do's to do, espescially when I keep putting them off. LOL  Sorry to jack your thread Randall

  13. It takes awhile but you'll adjust and love it.   I retired in 2010 and at first, kept thinking I had to use vacation time to do any trips...lol. But 4 years+ into it, I realize that life without a schedule is paradise! I'm so busy now doing anything and everything, I sometimes wonder how the heck I ever had time to work. The best part is fishing during the weekdays ... nobody there except an occassional fellow retiree :pleased:

  15. Saturday afternoon I got to work on some of my load development on my new 300 WM, for the past week I've had some mixed results with then Berger 230 grain hybrid match so I switched over to the 230 OTM and the 208 Amax bullets. The Amax loads start at 74.0 grains of H1000 and go up to 77.5 grns in .5 grn increments The OTM loads are just. A repeat of what I shot earlier in the week and the results repeated themselves so I'm going to stick with the posted load and seating depth on this particular bullet. Next is now getting chronograph data so I can plug into my ballistics software and have some data to work with to get to 1 mile. Below are pictures of today's results and all groups were shot at 300 yards. Temps today were in the low 80's with winds gusting up to 12 mph and steady of around 5-8 mph. Although some may disagree but all groups with exception of 1 group, the rest are 3 shots. The group sizes are posted with the pics and also load date and bullet length measured off the ogive.

  16. So this weekend I had some free time and decided to make something that is total overkill. Its the biggest bowie I've ever made and up there with the biggest I've ever seen. Its 3/8" 5160, 14.5 blade, 20" overall with a threaded through tang, oak handle and a nut welded to the pommel for a good strong tight fit. Guard is mild steel and about 4" long. I still need to finish sand t he handle and tong oil it, but other than sharpening and a little clean up the blades gonna stay forge finished. Tang drawn out Tip hot cut with a hanmer and chisel Finished product Laying next to my TGO passaround bowie from 2012 and my edc bowie with a 10.5 blade. And with my edc 10.5" bladed bowie and a case large trapper for size reference.

  21. You will need 50 rounds of ammo and will be firing from 3, 5 and 7 yards. Use the gun you shoot on a regular bases and you will do just fine.

  22. That's not good advice for someone living in a sub-division. Any and every deer shot with a broadhead has to be blood trailed. Any other ideas ? Apparently you aren't very experienced at bow hunting....just saying.   Dave

  31. I run a 20 pound spring for my main, hammer, spring and have never had issues with light strikes. I also run a steel firing pin which is harder to get moving compared to a Ti one. The firing pin will not protrude when the hammer is resting against it. The hammer strikes the firing pin and the firing pin goes pretty deep into its hole before hitting the primer. I run a 20 pound spring to reduce the trigger pull and compensate for it by running a heavier, usually 18 pound, recoil spring. I cannot recall which firing pin spring I am running, I know it is a Wolff but I cannot remember whether it is a standard or heavy. I want to say standard but I am not 100% sure.   If you really want to test it go grab a box of steel cased ammunition and shoot it. If it sets those off you will not have a problem with anything else.   And just to make you aware NEVER drop the slide on an empty chamber of a 1911. It WILL ruin the sear and will make the gun unsafe. The higher end the gun the more susceptible to this. I have seen a lot of guns damaged by dropping the slide on an empty chamber. What happens is the nose of the sear gets broken or rounded and then the hammer follows the slide. If you are lucky the hammer will stop at half cock. If you are unlucky the hammer will follow the slide all the way down and the gun will go off. If you are extremely unlucky the gun will not stop with one, will go full auto and empty the magazine.

  37.   This is the case. I think if you pick up, it disconnects the program and allows a person to answer if they wish. If I don't pick up the call, I usually get a message telling me either I've won a cruise or that I can be helped out of my 10,000+ cc debt.   I got one yesterday that I decided to answer, I picked up and interrupted the  message. After I said hello several times, a mumbling voice identified himself with a name I couldn't make out and said his records indicated I owed over 20, on my credit cards and he could help me get it paid off.   As far as the National and Tennessee Do Not Call lists, yes they help some. But won't block all of them. You need to sing up all your numbers at least once a year to stay active on the lists.   But as we all know, the new dialing programs do seem to get around the DNC lists.   I started laughing and the guy asked why I was doing that. I told him his records were wrong and that I'd needed a good laugh and thanked him for the joke.   He really didn't seem to know what to say after that and hung up.

  39. So here lately I've been videoing some of my shooting with my phone, and using screen shots to try and catch neat stuff, this is the best I've done. I ALMOST caught the flame! Also caught the slide all the way back Here's another decent one done the same way, caught a piece of brass mid flight All done with my iPhone 5c. I will say, if you've never recorded yourself shooting, it's a learning experience. Even though I hate being in front of a camera, it's really helped me correct small things that I normally can't see because 75% of the time I shoot alone

  48. Parts are so readily available right now that any serious shooter ought to have a few of just about every spare part out there. The most recent panic and wait times for the most basic of parts reinforces my need to have spare parts almost to a fault.   That being said, I've never busted a firing pin.
