  1. Does anyone know how to clean bloodstains at the DNA level and where to get lye in bulk? No reason, just asking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. How on earth would they even know who owns guns in free states where folks can buy firearms face to face? This is cute, but holds zero water, imho. Sure, I'm sure I'm on a list somewhere, but I know a number of folks who've never filled out transfer paperwork but can still defend themselves if needed.

  4. Only my second time finishing/staining furniture of any kind and the first time ever on a gun stock. But I've been working on/off for about 2 months on this stock set trying to recreate the color tones of SVD furniture for my Vepr-nov build and finally finished her tonight. I spent tons of time researching the colors of original russian SVD furniture and they really seem to run the gambit of color pallet. It can be orange-ish, honey brown, or even a little reddish brown. In the end I went with a iodine/acetone undercoat to get that orangish glow and to pop the grain on the tiger maple. Then I layed on a heavy coat of minwax red mahogany which took weeks to dry completely. Then 3 coats of satin polyurethane. The stock set itself(Rhineland Arms) had no fitment issues but I did have to trim up the slots in the handguard. The forward retaining screw in the tang did sit a little high after being fully tightened and required me to do some hand fitting/filing with the recoil rod assembly. Rhineland ships you a test block of wood cut from the same lumber as your stock set so that you can experiment with stains, etc. I tried all kinds of formulas and recipes all over the net but in the end the combo listed above seemed to produce the best results. Anyways - here she is...

  5. With the proviso that some cargo pants offer greater flexibility with respect to pocket carry of handguns I'll offer my $00.02 worth of insight. The LC9 proved itself a bit to large for pocket carry by me. I found the same to be true of the Walther PPK/s, KT PF9 and Colt Detective Special. S&W 2" J Frame Airweights are doable but feel bulky. The Ruger LCP, KT P3AT & P-32 work agreeably. I've also pocket carried a Beretta Jetfire Model 950 in 25 ACP and a Baby Browning (Bauer)  25 ACP's.   Now for some methodology; I tend to avoid wearing "tactical pants" and "cargo pants" because just like a fanny pack if your a guy of a certain age they highlight you as a probable gun carrier. I don't like that or want it, preferring instead to be the "grey man" in the back ground no one notices. There's a lot of merit to not drawing undue attention to oneself.     So as much as I dislike pocket carry I find myself out and about with a LCP of proven reliability a lot more often than with a SA XDs9 or SR9

  6. And if you dont want/need to practice alot with it or make it a range gun, I had a S&W M&P340 that I loved for its purpose. .357mag Jframe, Scandium frame, stainless cylinder. Weighed nothing but packed a hell of a punch.

  7. The Kahr PM9 is a good pocket carry and its more economical CM9 should be too. My PM9 has night sights and everything else is original. The Kahr's have a trigger somewhat like a revolver, long and smooth. Mine is extremely accurate, light, slim profile and a pleasure too shoot.

  8. The LC9 has a striker fired version now. They GREATLY improved the trigger.

  13. My everyday, step-out-the door gun is a S&W 642 in the front pocket. I carried a Kahr PM9 for a while and really liked it (same place), but noticed that from unconventional positions (like on the ground after getting knocked on your ass) the rear of the slide would get hung up on some pockets during the draw. I went back to the pocket-friendly 642.   Admittedly, if I didn't carry there, I would carry something else.

  16. If the 3-inch j-frame is truly everything you want in a small handgun, but not quite suitable for pocket carry, I'd probably go with either a S&W Airweight, Ruger LCR, or maybe a steel j-frame with a slightly shorter barrel, like a 640.  Pretty close to the gun that's everything you want, and much more pocketable.  You might also try the new LC9s - I hear the trigger is much, much better than the old LC9.

  22.   That's just it.  They must be going off of NICS data or somesuch.  Or a poll, which would most likely be flawed.  There is no way to factor in private sales.

  27. IMHO Berettas are just beautifully built handguns. If you buy one, odds are it won't be your last. I'll definetely buy a TN built model, but Cougars have always been my favorite to shoot. If you ever have the chance to try out a Beretta Cougar you'll fall in love. 8040 D Cougar (No safety or decocker...just point & shoot) 92G & 96G Elites

  28. I'll buck the tide -- wouldn't much care about having a full auto anything.  I guess a three round burst AR would be rather cool, and perhaps even "practical" after the Big Crash, but full auto, nah.   edit: Well,  then again maybe just one AK with a drum,  in case I needed to do the "kill everyone in the room at the poker game" type thang. ;)   - OS

  30. It is not just Obama's fault but it is his watch and if it happens on his watch it's his baby. 9/11 was Bush's baby cause it happened on his watch and he dealt with it in Afghanistan. In all honesty the issue should have been handled on Clinton's watch. The Terrorists did the first real attack on American soil in world trade center on Clinton's watch and he had our Intelligence network give him Bin Ladens location on 3 different dates after the basement bombing of the World trade center and Clinton failed miserably all 3 times so really 9/11/2001 should be on Clinton's shoulders...............jmho

  31. Well, it poured most of the day and seeing as how I don't wanna get my powder wet.... :D   i ran a rod down the barrel once more and filled my big powder horn with FFFG and the little one with  FFFFG.    I plan to go out tomorrow morning and do some serious shooting with it so maybe I can get a decent range report in.   I'll take my tried and true Hawkins to put a couple of rounds out then give the ole flintlock a work out.   I was gonna bring out my .45-100 but I think I'll devote the whole session to ole Mr. Flint.   Old Indian Chant.... May the rain God's move the clouds East and allow rays of sunshine to permeate the range. Hallaluya!   Lp

  35.   Nearest pros I know are:   Troy Sellers over in Kodak. He's like Mr. AK for custom stuff, has national following.  Nice feller too based on my limited interactions with him some time ago. I assume he knows all about that part of AK making whether he does much of it or not, but I wouldn't expect him to give up much if any time for free, seems he tends to stay backed up for good while.   http://www.inrangec2.com/   Mike Dresner over in Oak Ridge does everything he does very well, just don't know extent he goes in for AK, though, you could ask and see if any possibilities there, again wouldn't think would be fair to expect  much more than maybe a bit of verbal advice for free though.   http://www.lawenforcementsalestn.com/Services_Available.html   Probably worth taking either/both of them out for nice dinner just for a tour of their various uber cool machine shops. :)   - OS

  37. Many women will repress the memories of the abuse and therefore are not "aware" of it having happened to them. Unfortunately, the memories will re-surface later in life around their mid-thirties. My wife was abused by her paternal grandfather which she did not repress, but she will never tell her father out of fear of hurting him. Her grandfather died before I met her, so there's really no good that can come out of telling her father. I did convince her to tell her mother.   There are many reasons females keep quiet is the main point. My oldest daughter, for instance, was raped at a sleep-over when she was eleven years old. This happened while I was a police officer on-duty and in the town that I policed. She didn't tell me until many years later because she was afraid that I would have killed the 15-year old boy had I known, and that I would have gone to prison causing her to lose a father in the process. This is silly, because I surely wouldn't have been caught.

  38. Well dang, I don't have the CORE, but I have a 5" M&P Pro 40 and I love the crap out of it! Like you, I have a fullsize M&P and a shield, as well as a compact. The Pro has a better trigger than the stock guns, and I like the different/stippled feel of the grip inserts vs the normal grips. The extended barrel and slide just feel right and comfortable to me. Plus, it looks awesome! I haven't grown to love optics yet, so in that regard I am of zero help to you. But, if you like the M&P platform I couldn't recommend the Pro any more highly. It's just a great gun. My regular 40 fullsize has been relegated to drawer/glovebox duty since the Pro moved in.

  39. I’m not sure why you think it would matter? Where the gun came from will have zero impact on a shooting and I don’t really think my carry gun is going to be confiscated for any period of time unless I’m going to trial, in which case the cost of the gun will be pretty insignificant compared to lawyer bills.

The orange is in support of your favorite team and the reflective tape is so you don't get run over on the highway while performing community service.

  45. why can't I own body armor just because I want it and can afford to buy it?   Dave, do you seriously believe that banning things stops people from using them anyway?     I doubt anyone can get this through to you.     What else should be banned?  .45 ACP?   WASR 10's?   AR pistols?  Rocks?  Sharp sticks?
