  1. I sat down this afternoon and tried to watch "We Are The Millers", which is supposed to be a comedy. After listening to 10 minutes of nothing but expletives and profanities, I finally turned it off and am sitting here shaking my head.   I grew up in the days of Red Skelton, Martin and Lewis, Danny Kaye, and clean comedy, which was actually FUNNY. Today, every show and every movie seems to have nothing but vulgar and offensive language and sexual innuendo which is supposedly "funny".   I just don't get it. Years ago my wife and I went with two other couples to see a Whoopi Goldberg and Ted Danson movie that was billed as "the funniest movie of the year" (funny how every comedy gets billed this way; can they really ALL be the funniest movie of the year?). Nothing but foul language and nothing that I found even remotely funny. I told my wife I couldn't watch any more of it and I walked over to the next theater to see the last half of Jurassic Park. I don't mind a few colorful metaphors, but when every other word is the F bomb or something equally offensive and gratuitous, I simply can't watch it. How did we get so far away from cleanliness and true family entertainment?

  2. I fail to see how the entire restaurant chain, that is actively investigating and promising action should be boycotted.   The manager or employee that did this, yes, they should be fired at a minimum.   However, it would be like holding your entire company accountable because one of your installers said/did something that offended me, instead allowing you as the employer to deal with the offending employee.

  3. Weed will get you through times of no gun better than a gun will get you through time of no weed.  (  blatant ripoff and misuse of a slogan from Freaky Freddie)   It is absolutely ridiculous that weed is illegal.   And it being illegal only boils down to the man wanting to keep his foot on our necks.

  6. Agreed. After all was said and done it cost me about $100 to send as many rounds down range with an UZI. Not something I'll likely do again, but I'm glad I got to try it once. I guess it comes down to how much the groupon cost and how flush you are with223. Actually, you'd better do it, it was very cool of your wife to set that up for you two, don't want to let her down.

  10. I agree too. I am only 26 so vulgarity and sexuality based comedy is mostly all my generation sees. Still though, I enjoy watching some old Red Skelton, Andy Griffith, 3 Stooges, etc. Most new movies put out now are not funny at all IMO. It seems they are so stupid its funny and I cant stand that type of comedy.

  11. I'm not a father and will never be...something I regret but can't do anything about and wouldn't at my age now even if I could. So...I don't celebrate Fathers' Day as a father but also, Father's day is a sad affair for me now as I lost my dad just a few days before Father's Day in 2001 after he survived lung cancer for almost 15 years.   I miss him and I owe a lot to my Dad; in particular an appreciation for firearms...knowing the importance of work...a love of music and a love of reading.   My dad was not educated; having finished only the eight grade. But he was smart enough to marry my mom! He met my mother (who was several years younger than he) when my grandparents moved to the town where I grew up; a tiny little place called New Holland, Ohio. She met him at their church...the church was having a farewell party for him as he was leaving for the Army (WW2) - he did his basic and I think his other training at Fort Knox and became a tank driver under Patton (including a trip, of course, to Bastogne). She waited for him and they dated a few years while my dad was a truck driver until they married (she not wanting a husband that was gone all the time) so he became a crane operator for a steel company from which he retired.   He also farmed my grandfather's farm and then our own small farm once my grandfather sold his place and retired and he did this even while he worked full time.  In his "spare" time he hauled livestock for hire on sale days and I was usually with him to help.  When he wasn't working at something, either for pay, the farm or around the house, he always had a book or a newspaper in his hand.  He also had a great singing voice. When we were working in the fields during the planting season, summer and harvest he would sing while he worked...I can still hear his voice traveling across the filed even over the noise of the tractor or harvester!   We fished together...hunted together...my dad was my Cub Scout Pack and then my Boy Scout Troop leader while I was in them. His pride and joy hunting gun was a Belgium Browning Auto 5 12 gauge. Much to my dismay he sold that gun to my uncle. But, thanks to a great guy here on TGO I was able to buy a Belgium Browning Sweet Sixteen that is in nearly flawless condition - that gun reminds me so much of my dad I can't even describe how happy I am to own it.   Well...not sure why I decided to write all this...I guess I just felt the need to do so; maybe to remind everyone that if you have a great dad who is still with you don't take the time for granted...and if you are a dad, be a good one.

Probably because he hasn't converted to islam, then obama would send the seal team in to swap 5 cartel leaders for him

  16.   Very simple. I have owned numerous 1911's and have always thought my Kimber Ultra CDP (original series) was the cat's meow. Never failed me and carries well.   Then I bought a Dan Wesson CCO (still under $1500) and it is a fine pistol. In comparison to my beloved Kimber, I was kind of upset. The DW makes the Kimber look like a school kid put it together. Serious.   Then I said to myself...Self, just how much better can a 1911 get without going full on custom?  Now I'm not one to part with money easily, but I will spend it if I can get a good deal. So along came a Wilson CQB. To say that the Wilson makes the Kimber look like a toy is an understatement. Totally different ballpark, nevermind same field. Is the Kimber a fine weapon? Absolutely, but it is now relegated to the safe. Is the DW a fine gun? Without question, and I will be buying other DW's in the future. Is the Wilson worth it? It's definitely worth what I paid (as new gun, bought for way less than new price) and it won't be leaving anytime soon.   But as I said earlier in this thread, the DW puts ALL other guns anywhere near its price range to shame. It's just that simple.   And to answer the original quote of why would someone buy a $1500+ 1911? Because they have the means, like the finer things in life, and are old enough & wise enough know that you get what you pay for.

  18. So I'll bring this thread back from the dead... Mine is finally done. Well, sort of. :) Took rather a while to collect all the pieces, but I'm glad I was picky and got exactly what I wanted. TGO CMT billet lower PSA LPK PSA 16" midlength complete upper, BCG and charging handle included Magpul MOE handguard (bought from someone here) PSA flip-up rear sight Cavalry Arms C1 fixed stock Primary Arms red dot and mount (bought from someone here) This is my first AR. :woohoo: Building it was pretty darn easy. I just followed the videos that OS posted and while I did sent a detent flying once or twice, thankfully it didn't go far. The storage compartment in the stock is cavernous! I can easily fit two 10 rd stripper clips in it. I think I could squeeze 3 in there if I really wanted to. I plan to get a Hogue pistol grip for it and when I swap that, I'll put the correct selector detent spring in this time (oops... ) and adjust the set screw to snug up the fit between the lower and upper. Thanks to all who posted the many helpful hints on how to build it. :hat: When I did the big unveiling for my wife.... she said, "Cool! When do I get to shoot it?" Right after I do, dear. Right after I do. :)

  20. One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine when he saw two men along the road-side eating grass.   Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop and got out to investigate.   He asked one man, "Why are you eating grass?"   "We don't have any money for food," the poor man replied. "We have to eat grass."   "Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you," the lawyer said.   "But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree."   "Bring them along," the lawyer replied.   Turning to the other poor man he stated, "You may come with us, also."   The second man, in a pitiful voice, then said, "But sir, I also have a wife and six children with me!"   "Bring them all as well," the lawyer answered.   They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine.   Once under way, one of the poor fellows turned to the lawyer and said, "Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you.”   The lawyer replied, "Glad to do it. You'll really love my place. The grass is almost a foot high."

  24. Damn, it looks like it was a great show. I haven't been to this show in years. I used to live near the airport and would see them practicing over my house and could even watch a good part of the show for free, but I always preferred to go and sit right up on the flight line all day long. I really wanted to go again this year, and had planned to buy the tickets on Friday afternoon pending a good weather forecast, but I aggravated my injuries trying to help a friend move on Friday so I spent all day Saturday and most of Sunday recovering. Now I just have to hope that they do another show next year. Did they do any ground demonstrations besides the jet truck? Like the strafing runs, helicopter insertion / evac, bombing runs, etc? I always thought those provided a nice variety instead of just flying plane after plane, especially for the youngsters. I would really love to see some live-fire shows like they do out in the desert. Warthog, Apache, etc.

  26. I have the XDm in 40 S&W. I shoot it as well as my M&P and Glock pistols in 40 S&W. I've had no issues with it. The grip safety does not bother me at all. I don't even notice it. And haven't had an issue with it. I tend to shoot my Glocks and M&P much more. No reason why. I just do.   It's a mass produced well made and reliable pistol. It really isn't special in any way over the others.   I guess the only bad things I can say about it that it's not as easy to take apart as my Glocks.

  35. I smoked pot for years, even after I was a "grown up."  (Actually didn't be, come a regular user until I was in my late 20's)  Usually daily, sometimes several times per day if I was say just working around the house and not doing anything dangerous or not going anywhere.  Eventually I had to stop due to my job.  Believe it or not there are high functioning people out there that smoke pot, while holding down a full time job, paying a mortgage, raising kids, and going to church on Sundays, I guarantee this applies to several who will read this.  I was no more ashamed to be a pot smoker than I was to drink a beer after work.  I'm certainly not saying that it is fine to smoke pot and handle guns, but to prohibit a person who smokes pot from owning or carrying a gun makes as much sense as prohibiting the same from a person who occasionally drinks a beer or a glass of wine.  It's all about control that is 100% why marijuana isn't legal.   On a related note, I recently had to fill out an ATF form for work and it asked if I was addicted to "alcohol, drugs, or other stimulants."  Only thing that I have an addiction to in this world in caffeine, I'm just a moron until I get about 4 cups of coffee in my system each day.

  37. Well, the whole thing was a farce anyway since I did not end up going due to a last minute business related emergency.    That said, I guess I need to clear things up just a bit, so that the assumption isn't that I'm stupid here.    I did not call them and ask if I could carry a gun into the symphony hall. I called and inquired as to whether or not they have a weapons policy. For all they know, I could have been an anti-gunner making sure that they were providing a "safe" environment for me to attend the symphony. Or maybe they thought I was asking if I could carry a gun into the building. Either way, I don't care one little bit. What bothers me more is that I report my findings here on this forum, and all I am met with is the assumption that I did something stupid or wrong by asking a question.   I see fear and derision from people who are supposed to be supportive of the rights that I choose to exercise and defend.    I understand that the majority of you are trying to be helpful, but for the rest of you, please refrain from offering useless, fear-based advice and comments. They should have no place here.    And one last thing. If we are beaten into submission to the point that we can't even ask questions for fear of the reprisal, then what's the point of fighting the madness anyway?

  38. I agree.   Most of the movies and TV I watched today are shows of 20 or 30 years ago and movies...well, easily back to the 1940s. I also love listening to XMs classic radio channel.   There is some good stuff on TV today but most of it is simply trash staring trashy people produced and funded by trashy people and it's just not worth my time.

  39. I got it , the solution to many problems faced here in the US.   Thank you Dustbuster, your post inspired this solution.       We could send or felons from prisons to Mexico on the bases that they never come back   Think about it, this could free up or prisons, reduce the amount we spend on prisons, reduce over population in prisons. I am sure many on Death row would jump for this since Mexico is anti death row as well.

  45. I just ordered 500 for $165 shipped.  Website was a little slow but it got through.   I told myself recently that I've probably bought my last round of brass 223 ammo.  34-35 cents for one pull of the trigger is just too much.  I said if it got down to 30 cents shipped I would do it.  I bought this exact thing--500 rounds of m193--from Palmetto in April '12 for $150 shipped.  So this was still a little higher but hell steel is about 28 cents a round shipped.    What I really need to do is just double down on 7.62x39.  I've got two AKM variants and an SKS, and for under 23 cents a round shipped that is the best centerfire deal other than 5.45.
