A woman awakes during the night to find that her husband was not in their bed. She puts on her robe and goes downstairs to look for him. She finds him sitting at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in front of him. ... He appears to be in deep thought, just staring at the wall. She watches as he wiped a tear from his eye and takes a sip of his coffee. Brasil was the best patient I had that day !   It was busy as crap...as usual... I got a text "Hurt hand, in ER"...WTF? Since I don't usually get texts (my friends know I'm a technotard)...I went "darn...must be an emergency"..Sure enough. :cool: Heck...Brasil needed an update on his Tetanus shot anyway...   Brasil is tough folks. Seems like every few months there's a thread where someone mangled one of their fingers. Last Friday it was my turn. It was going to be a long weekend so I had a long list of stuff I wanted to get done. First on my list was turn some range lead into ingots. I got my pot on the burner, my molds, and other tools set up and ready. I put my squirrel cage fan in place to blow the smoke away from me and then I was going to put on my gloves. As I turned to get my gloves the fan started to fall back, I grabbed it at the square air outlet without thinking and... The next day. Special thanks to the fine folks at Methodist Medical Center ER, they had me fixed up and out of there in no time. So lets see those messed up fingers!!!!!

I'm so proud of my 14 year old daughter. She attends a private school. Her school requires all 8th grade students to do a 25 hour project and log their hours. I helped her with a couple of difficult cuts on the angle grinder and router but she did most everything on this. She even demonstrated it outside of her school. Her teacher was so excited to give it a try as soon as the teacher shot it she said "Well you'll be getting an A!". Other teachers heard about it and came out to give it a go. This was her project: -Stock is 2x4 pine -Trigger and mechanism is a flat piece of steel cut and bent after she heated it with a blowtorch. -Bow is a piece of 1" PVC heated and flattened then reheated and bent to shape. (People on the interwebs are getting 150lb draw on 1 1/2" PVC so we went with 1" -String is 550 paracord -bolt is an oak dowel rod with a penny ground into an arrow shape and packing tape fletching. ( I actually made this arrow, she made two like it with foam on the tips in case they wouldn't allow her to shoot the sharp one) Yup, my daughter rocks! -southernasylum

So I have a job interview tomorrow with TWRA in Nashville, as a forestry program coordinator. I am qualified, it's just a matter of convincing them of that. I'm pretty much reserved to the fact that if it's not in Gods plan then it won't happen anyhow, but it would be nice, for sure. So if your so inclined, I'd appreciate any prayers y'all can muster.

I originally went to college, concentrating in culinary arts...Cut myself quite often, and at least once down to the bone. Between that, fast food, and restoration work, I learned the easiest way to not hurt yourself is to not do anything that involves sharp objects or high tension/moving parts. Since this is generally impossible, make sure you have the toughest tools, sharpest knives, and a high threshold for pain in addition to iron stomach and good humor....because when something does happen, regardless of how careful you are, the only things left to do is laugh and learn.

And I'm going to be plain out offended if y'all don't call me.

Ok, I told myself I would not do this but there are plenty here who haven't seen it. BTW, these are separate incidents. I have also smashed my thumb to oblivion but no pictures of it but I did figure out how to sleep with my hand up in the air like a 3rd grader trying to get the teacher's attention. My thumb met a very sharp knife and required a trip to the ER. This one my thumb got sucked into a router bit and I decided I didn't need to go to the hospital even though I probably should have. My poor thumb doesn't even look right and the skin grows all kinds of funky. Hang in there I know your pain.

At least you'll have a good gun to do it with. Haha

right, right, I just meant the basics have not changed in 100+ years and my main point was that the "outdated" fbi/cia/etc studies are still going to be "mostly valid".       Certainly we can make better expansion JHP rounds.  And certainly we can make more aerodynamic rounds.  Its like building a better mousetrap though.   A round ball out of a civil war revolver at self defense range is just as good --- at the end of the day, if you poke a goodly sized hole in vital machinery first, you win.  It does not take modern rocket science to accomplish *that* :P   Am I recommending using antique tech?  Not at all.  I am just saying don't over think it.

I don't say this to offend anyone, nor to make light of the seriousness of what we may pray for. Usually, we pray for someone's health or someone that's injured or has suffered some major catastrophe. As a Christian, I've kind of not prayed for what I consider trivial things. Fearing that I might anger God for asking for things that little children may ask for, I've pretty much abstained. This afternoon, in my frustration, I prayed for God to reveal to me where my missing barrels were. In less that five minutes, I walked from the bathroom to my reloading/junk room. I stepped up on my weight bench and checked the top shelf one more time. I then pulled a box out from the second shelf that had my Contender .22 Hornet barrel with the scope on it...and some spare Contender grips and forearm, I had placed there!   Call it a lucky move, call it anything you'd like. I've probably looked on that very shelf four or five times, since I "hid" them...but today I found it. The Remington 1100 barrel is still on the loose. But, I feel I'll find it soon. No, I'm not a foolish old kook...just someone that believes in the power of prayer, even for the little, seemingly insignificant, things! I'm happy.

I wouldn't miss the 'Now Leaving Birmingham' signs...   If I am not mistaken, they are creeping into the top ten most dangerous cities list.   I hate going down there.

A few notes about permethrins:  be careful around cats because they are very sensitive (as in, muscle tremors and seizures if ingested or possibly absorbed through the skin).  You'll see products labeled for cats that contain various types of pyrethroids, but so far, I have only seen one product that contains this type of compound that didn't cause this type of problem (Seresto collars).   Also while researching Parkinson's (which my dad has and my mother has Parkinsonian symptoms), I found that permethrin exposure may be a factor in developing the disease.  My parents were born in the 1940's, so much of the flea control used in their lifetime (flea sprays, dips, etc) were permethrins.  I don't know if that was significant exposure, but it was enough that I stopped using the Seresto collar on my dog who sleeps in the bed with me.  After having both parents develop neurological disease, I figured I shouldn't press my luck anymore than needed.

It's going to be hard to add to what's already been said, but I'll give it a shot. Training with Randy will help bring weakness to light, both in yourself, and in your gear. I have been getting by on the first aid training I had in the Boy Scouts in the 80's and 90's. This class helped me to realize that I need more than just basic first aid if I am going to carry a gun and be active in shooting sports. We talked about tourniquets and how to properly apply one (I had done this in scouts) but then we put it to practice with a timer. Randy would have us do malfunction drills with our pistols and then apply the TQ to an injured limb. (We never did that in scouts) Everthing I've learned before was about taking care of others, this was about taking care of others and yourself. Putting a TQ on your right arm by yourself isn't easy and takes some practice. My favorite part of the class was the force on force with the airsoft pistols. Randy didnt have us just running around shooting at each other, once you were hit you had to apply what you learned to treat yourself or your buddy. I would highly recommend this class as it was a real eye opener to me. Thanks Randy, it was a pleasure to meet you again.

We need to get support of this kind of change from the NRA and TFA and make this a priority next year along with a solid park carry bill.    I don't think you would have much opposition to this kind of a change because the law would state that the property owner would still of course be able to ask people to leave.   Is it ideal to everyone?  I know folks will say they should be able to carry anywhere, and I agree.  But at the same time you have to strike a balance in order to get a solid bill passed that in the end greatly helps folks with permits.   If such a bill were passed, you would be able to legally carry in a lot of places that you can't right now because of a 'no gun' sign.  The property owner would still have the right to ask you to leave if your gun is seen.

If you ask me one big reason is there are just too many shows now.  It's gotten out of hand.  Knoxville averages at least one show per month.   When I was a kid there were like 2 shows a year (in Memphis) and they were mighty good shows.

I imagine the office asked her to unload it as an alternative to taking possession of the weapon for the duration of the stop which is something the law specifically allows for reasons of "officer safety". My question to the officer would be to ask how having me handle my weapon helps increase his safety? Wouldn't the weapon staying put in its holster be a much safer course of action for everyone involved?
