  2. " If you like your current gun, you can keep it. Obama-gun will save you $2400.00/year. There will be a website where you can register your gun."   Found that quote from someone on the NRA Facebook feed.    Obama/Holder & Co. already know that gun control efforts failed in the Senate last year and gun grabbing Democrats in tight races for re-elections are distancing themselves from the issue.    What I raise, if guns can't be dealt with in Congress, then the Executive branch and use the regulation powers via executive order to get what they want.    Mark my words, that on Wednesday, Nov, 5th, this Holder talk will turn into more action with the pen and phone.

  6. The Battle at Fort Pillow was a black day for Nathan Bedford Forest and his cavalry. If you look this battle up on Wikipedia or other internet sites, you will not get the whole story. I have no doubt that Union soldiers were murdered that day, black and white alike, but the story goes deeper than that. There is an excellent article in Military Heritage magazine (January 2014) about this debacle at Fort Pillow. The Union commander of the fort was of dubious character. He made the town a Jackson pay him $5,000, not to burn the town. There is a suggestion that Fort Pillow was nothing more than a hideout for looters, thieves, carpetbaggers and scoundrels. Forest and his men were getting many reports from local civilians of terrible deeds perpetrated by the garrison at the fort. There were also around 100 confederate deserters at the fort. When Forest moved on this fort, his men were already mad, yet there is no evidence to suggest they attacked to fort with any intention committing a massacre. This battle was one giant clusterflop from the very beginning. This contributed more to what happened than racism and hatred. The standard procedure for surrendering a fort was to lower the flag. It was never lowered. The commander of the fort was shot and killed at the beginning of the battle and the Union command structure broke down. Some men were surrendering while others were still fighting. Some groups of men who had surrendered changed their minds and started fighting again. It was chaos. This did more to spark the massacre than the hatred of black soldiers, deserters and East Tennessee Unionists. The sad part is that this could probably have been avoided if this chain of events had been broken some how.

  8. I'm orginally a WV boy. My sister found this pup abandoned on top of a mountain back in WV. (I would love to find out who did this to him) He was in rough shape- broken leg, head injury, skin infections, malnourished of course, ect. Decided to take him to the vet and have them take care of what ever the little boy needed. After a few days at the vet he was in much better shape and my sister took him home to recoup. Had every intention of finding him a good home with someone who'd take care of him. My sister sent me a pic of him tonight and I don't think I can let him go to another home because I know I can give him one he deserves. A big thanks to my sister for what she's done for him. Say hi to my soon to be kinda furry pal Deuce. I think he'll like Tennessee. Before/After 5 days at the vet Tonight- 2 weeks later

  9. A quick update. It's been one month since Roscoe (his name is Roscoe now) was found and taken in. Hard to believe just how far he has come. He's still in WV with my sister due to having to go to the vet weekly for the leg break. The vet there has been great. I'm going up in a couple days to hopefully finally bring him to TN.....if my sister lets me. March 7th April 8th....I LOVE this picture.

Same thing as thread on Van Huss HB2409/Beavers SB2424, Harwell gave orders to roll to last committee day even though Van Huss was there to present, effectively killing the bill.  If it wound up on the floor for consideration it would have passed like in the Senate 25-2, can't have that from the supposed conservative supermajority.

  15. I’ve never worked in the industry but I think this could work.   The math:  I think the keys would be making sure the returned firearms (of which I suspect there would be few) are accepted back in as new condition and the fact that you’d be offering store credit as opposed to a cash refund.  My understanding is that mark up on firearms is probably closer to 20% but I’m gonna say 25% just to make the math easier.  You sell a $500 gun (in which you have $400) and it is returned in as new condition.  You sell that gun for $450 for a $50 profit.  Whatever happy customer purchases with his store credit will have your profit margin built in.  Thus, why store credit is one of the keys.  I understand that you’re ultimately accepting a lower profit margin on that gun but would suggest that you may actually improve your bottom line.  A friend of mine is one of the best retail sales people I know.  He is absolutely as honest as they come but he understands that if you are dealing with a replaceable good sacrificing profit margin for bottom line often pays off long term.  My friend is one of the best I’ve seen at making sure that customers get to spend all the money they want.  If a customer comes in with $100 to spend and he only has $40 worth of that product (in which my friend has $20 being in a keystone markup business) my friend will offer to sell them $120 worth of a comparable product for $100.  He’s willing to do this because he understands that $40 minus $20 equals $20 and $100 minus $60 equals $40 and $40 is more than $20.   The psychology:  I still believe the percentage of returns would be low in this scenario and I think the psychological edge of such a policy might well outweigh the reduced profit margin on the returned items.  Here’s the scenario:  potential gun buyer is on the fence on plopping down the hard earned Benjamins for a gun he’s not quite sure he’ll like.  Maybe this generous return policy pushes him over the edge.  From the few responses I read before composing this missive it appeared there might be some interest from those assembled here in doing business with an establishment with such a policy.  Potential boost in customer loyalty methinks.  Some might even being willing to pay at least some small premium to do business with such an establishment.   My $0.02.

  20. All non-firearms political / currnet events threads now belong in the Hive of Scum and Villainy forum [LINK].  This forum, the 2nd Amendment Current Events and Politics forum, is solely for the use of discussing firearms related political issues and newsworthy stories.   Things you should know:   Regarding "Cop Bashing", unless it happened in Tennessee I don't want it posted here.  Period.  Post that crap somewhere else.   The Hive of Scum and Villainy no longer shows up on searches for new threads.  Why?  Because I really could care less.  This is a firearms forum and firearms issues (Glock vs. 1911) are volatile and divisive enough to a community such as ours.  If you want to wallow in the mud and argue about politics that don't relate to firearms, then you can make the manual effort to visit that forum and see what's new.  Bad news is everywhere; I don't care to see it popping up in my TGO news feed and many other members likely agree.     That's all.  Please keep our forum clean by ensuring new threads regarding either of these topics get posted in the appropriate forum.

  22.   Yep.  I don't approve of entrapment as a manner of policing.  It is creating a crime where a crime might not otherwise exist.    Beyond the lazy police work that entrapment is, this whole thing smacks of morality enforcement, which I have an equal issue with.  The police went online and solicited sex in exchange for money, then arrested those who agreed to those terms, then made a point to release the story to the press complete with pictures in order to publicly shame them.  If prostitution is such a crime, why not go after actual prostitutes and pimps?

  24. I don't understand the problem? A store is free to do with their inventory as they like, I don't think anyone here would dispute that. The flip side to the coin is that we're free to talk about it. If a store makes its own bed, they have to lay in it. As far as us sitting around bitching about it, as a retail manager I wish there was an online forum full of my potential/former/current local customers telling me what they don't like about my store.

  27.   The part I put in bold is the important part here, in my not-so-humble opinion. Both the left and the right, Democrats and Republicans, want THEIR morals enforced by the government, but damn you if you try and reverse it on them.      You are making the argument for capitalism, but then complaining when people practice it. In truth, if two people agree on a price and neither is coerced or forced to enter into the agreement, how can that possibly be classified as gouging? There is not a product in the world (that is not priced controlled through the government) that isn't sold for what the market will bear. Because someone will charge less than what the market will bear doesn't make them a saint. And because someone does charge what the market will bear doesn't make them the devil. In fact, there are often other factors at play that affect the cost of doing business, and therefore the price of the commodity.      Bravo!     How is one guy screwing his customer? By asking a price that the customer is willing to pay? Seems to me it takes two to tango.    Or is he forcing anyone who walks in through the doors to buy his ammo at the "inflated" price? That would be a different scenario altogether.

  28. I will have to admit this has been an enlightening discussion and a lot of peoples views have been expressed. Let me tell this to everyone because I realize that many have said many different things about homosexuals and or gays and I respect each ones feelings.       About 5 years ago I had a grandson come to me with a problem that he didn't feel he could talk to his mother and father about. He was having difficulty with his sexuality feelings. He had dated while in High School some but never quite felt comfortable around girls. So when old enough he secretly be began going to a gay bar and said he felt more comfortable there than in a regular bar. He ended up dating a few males and was even more confused because after that he was more uncomfortable. So he came to me for help. I was caught totally off guard. That is just not something you ever expect to be faced with discussing especially when he knew how strong willed I am about those type issues. He began to weep as he knew it was something he was not proud of yet so confused about. I finally asked him to stop weeping and handed him a box of tissues. I said son, your 22 years old and still have a long life ahead of you. Maybe your pushing yourself to hard in to many different directions all at once. If your not comfortable with either sex right now then put that on hold and begin to set other goals for yourself in life. I asked him if he liked his job and he said no. I asked him if there was a job he did like in his past and he said yes. I asked him what it was and he said busing tables and being a waiter. I told him to find a job doing one of those and put every bit of effort into that and see what happens. I also handed him his Grandmothers bible and I told him to read a little bit when he found time. He found a job as a waiter at an Ol'Charlie's about two weeks later. He also began reading his grandmothers bible when time permitted. Today he is a totally different young man today. Knows exactly where his life is going. He has been asst Manager of that Ol'Charlies now for almost a  year after his manager put him through their management program. He brought his Fiance' over to visit about two months ago and will marry her in June. He asked me to be best man at the wedding. Now with that said. Was I upset after he left? Yes and No. Did I still love him knowing what he had just told me? Yes because he is my grandson. Did I lay awake that night wondering if he would make it to where he wanted and needed to be? Of course I did but I knew I had done all I could do and I put it in GODS hands and said a special prayer before I went to sleep that night. Now did I ask myself could I still love him if he came to me and just told me that he was gay? In all honesty I gave that a lot of thought because in the back of my mind I knew that someday he may come and tell me he is because of how he felt about his life. I made up my mind after a lot of thought and Yes I would still love him and yes I would respect his decision. Would I have liked it. Probably not but he would have never known it. Now with that said. I don't know if anyone here has ever been faced with a similar situation and it is none of my business but I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings about the issue.    As far as Disney and what they choose to do. They are a business just like any other and if I don't agree with their views I don't have to spend my money purchasing anything they are selling or spending money at one of their parks. It is just like businesses post GUN FREE. I don't give them my money either...................jmho.

Senate passes 2424 25-2, HB 2409 got rolled to the heal of the calender in the House, where Chairman Mike Harrison arbitrarily rolled the bill to the last calender of the session, along with HB 2087 by Van Huss (anti electronic surveillance bill) even though Van Huss as in attendance and ready to present.  Old Jimmy Naifeh ploy to kill an unwanted bill.    The Establishment, keeping firearms issues off the floor and limiting votes so the constituents can not see the facts and Big Business gets what it wants since supermajority came into being.

  35.     Yep.  You came here for the curves, why are you straightening them?   :squint:                 Yes.  If you see a motorcycle riding slowly and frantically waving at you... be prepared to vacate the road quickly.  There's several spots where an entire tractor and 53' trailer can hide and then magically appear right in front of you.    Personally, I think the 53' trailers should be restricted.  Since they cannot pass that stretch of road in a legal manner, they shouldn't be allowed or an escort should be required.  I seem to recall that it's physically not possibly to pass through legally with a trailer longer than about 30ft.

  36. With that said.... Can we reload on the move or do we have to do it flat footed ??? Robert you missed a good shoot Saturday.

  37.   Okay, I'm back at my computer, so I'll address your questions in order.     1.  The pistol grip stock gives more leverage to the strong-side arm, and requires less perceived effort to point in different directions.  You can feel this difference for yourself:  take something like a flashlight or a large wrench and "point" it at the target (bending the wrist)... move it around and "point" it at different objects.  Now, take the same object and hold it straight up and down vertically... and move it around the same way... it's easier to move from target to target, right?  That's just the way the human arm works.  That being said, I still prefer the traditional stock... your mileage may vary.   2.  Benelli and FN (the SLP is what I shoot in 3-gun) make outstanding autoloading guns.  The Remington Versamax and Mossberg 930 series guns also have good reputations, but I have no personal experience with them.  The Saiga AK-type shotgun can be built to be very good as well.  All of these are significantly more expensive than pump shotguns.  Most of these are more expensive than a basic AR15.   3.  $400 should get you into an 870 or 590 easily.  As for autos, the Mossberg guns start around $600, and it just goes up from there.... to be honest I haven't bought a shotgun in years, I'm sure others here are more "current" with pricing information.   4. Your assumption is correct.  Prag posted an excellent chart.    5. The "select-slug" drill is just a method for changing the type of shell that's in the chamber.  Here's a scenario:  You are carrying your shotgun, loaded with 00 buck, when you are engaged by a threat around 75 yards away.  The odds of stopping that threat with 00 (or any shotshell) are pretty much nonresistant.  You need a slug.  Luckily, you have two or three in your sidesaddle, and you know where they will hit at 75 yards because you paid attention to DCloudy777.  The "select-slug" drill is a way (there are several methods) to get the shotshell that's currently in the chamber out, and that slug in... hopefully in a timely fashion. 6.  A "Turkey Choke" is basically what the industry calls a choke constriction tighter than "Extra Full".  I wouldn't get too wrapped around the axle about chokes.  Cylinder bore can do everything you need a shotgun to do against people.  Interchangeable choke tubes are a plus, and can enhance the capabilities of the shotgun, but not really all that much when you're talking about using it for defense.  Also remember that if you have different choke tubes, you will have different shot patterns at every range, and that's more stuff you have to learn and know.  Also, slug point-of-impact can vary a LOT with different choke tubes (I learned this one the hard way at a match).  :yuck:   I don't know about an 870 that uses nonstandard barrels, but that doesn't mean that Remington hasn't made one.  If they did, I'd avoid it too.    Hope that's helpful.  The training mentioned in a couple of the above posts is a very, very good idea as well.  I don't know Mr. Harris, but he has an excellent reputation.  I'll give you as much free internet wisdom as you can stand, but I'm just a guy that has shot a lot of guns and talks too much... no substitute for a good trainer and hands-on.       DanO

  41. I wouldn't support a shop doing that either, but that's not what I'm talking about here. Making a personal choice to not shop at a place as discussed is not the same thing as publically coming on a forum and trashing the business.   Look at it this way: Isn't it a violation of forum rules to do a "Thread Dump"? What if 10-ring was selling a gun that I thought was too high and I started posting derogatory posts about him on this forum. Would that be fair? What if I stated that he was a D*** for doing so...would that be tolerated?

  43.       I'll vouch for your story. You may not remember me because of how stealthy I can be. If you did by chance detect me I was the guy wearing old army fatigues talking to the counter guy about my current SWAT Sniper experience and how much what I learned while being a Recon Sniper helped during this one hostage "event" at the mall I run security for (SWAT does NOT pay enough by the way so I have to supplement my income by working private sector security - I oversee a team of four and we train daily for "events" and "situations". Don't ask me to explain the difference between an "event" and a "situation" because I am not allowed to but there IS a difference).   What we had at ETW was definitely a situation, but obviously I cannot go into detail why. But obviously gunbartender deserved to be drawn upon but was even shown that mercy by the guy behind the counter because it was a "situation" and not an "event".
