  1. For the record, I don't disagree with asking a customer not to do anything that might damage merchandise. But...if anyone (gun store, or elsewhere) indicates that they would draw on me for the things indicated in this thread, I have a big problem with them

  9. As someone who actually lives in Antioch, I'll try to reclaim some trash-talk from the yuppies on here. :taunt: Yes, Antioch has a reputation. Just like LA has a reputation. It's a mix of good areas & not-so-good areas. However, you only hear about the bad parts, because the good parts stay quiet. It really depends on where you are. In general, east of I-24 is not so good, but has patches of decent housing (especially if it's a newer development). West of I-24 is better, getting gradually better (& more expensive) as you get towards I-65 & Brentwood. The Edmonson Pike area is nice. Going further west over I-65 to Radnor Lake, you start getting in to the pricy section of town. Green Hills is the epicenter of high-income for that area, and Hillsboro Pike from I-440 to Harding Pl. is gridlock hell. I-24 has slightly worse traffic during rush-hour than I-65. Northbound in the morning & southbound in the evening. I'd recommend sticking to the I-65 corridor or the West End area if you can find something within your price range. Vandy & Belmont students take up a good chunk of housing in that area, though. Since you're moving to a brand-new area, you could just rent a place for 6 months or a year & get to know what parts of town you like, and where the "invisible lines" are that separate one part of town from the next. Here's a funny map that someone made. Is it true? In a general sense, but not absolute. My :2cents: .

  10. My question is how many folks have been awakened in the middle of the night and needed to call the police and what was the response you received? Not on something personal but maybe an intruder call or something of that nature? I had something happen several years back that later on I found it rather amusing. This was my 1 and only experience.   Had an incident about 5 years ago and didn't really give it much thought till recently.  Had a few Immigrants try to help themselves to some high end fishing rods off deck of my bass boat in my carport about 2AM one night. They might have gotten away with it but my guard dog was on duty and asleep under the boat. I could tell her to guard the boat and she would sleep under it in summertime. Shes not really a barker as much as a reaction type guard dog and bites first and then barks. She took a large chunk of meat out of the lower calf of one of latinos and he set into screaming and I cleared the door with flashlight and cell in one had and Bersa in the other and his buddy had taken off as I exited the door and only got a glimpse of him . The idiot thought he was going to punch Kasey but he found out that didn't work cause she got hold of 3 of his fingers and took 2 off at the first knuckle. (Her daddy was Chow and her Momma was Black Mouth Kerr so her jaws are like a vice.) Then the guy jumps up in my boat to get away from her and he bleeding like a stuck pig all over my boat carpets and screaming something in Spanish at Kasey. I had the carport lights on by then and I yelled at him to shut the hell up because the dog does not understand Spanish. I get on my cell phone and called the police @ 911. This is where it got really interesting. Now it's a Wednesday night  in this town and the dispatcher ask me what was my emergency and I told her I needed a squad car and an ambulance. She said it's going to be about 20 minutes because they are pretty busy right now. I politely told her that was fine. I would just shoot the guy a few times and when they got a chance they could stop by and unload him out of my boat. She said you can't do that and I told her to stay on the line so she could hear the shots and she said they were on the way right now and I should have help in a few minutes. I said Thank You. It was about 1 minute before I heard sirens coming from about 3 different directions. Inside of about about 4 minutes I had all kinds of help. I told one of the officers that his buddy was hiding behind a garden shed in my neighbors yard. He said he would request a  k-9. I was looking at Kasey and she had her run cable stretched out tight towards the neighbors shed with both her ears stood straight up. She knew he was there. I told the officer to get a buddy and just wait right there and I unhooked Kasey. She went around that building and here the guy comes running wide open, screaming towards the police officers. He is lucky he didn't get shot because both officers had their guns out with Kasey hot on his heels. I grabbed her and they grabbed him. After a little questioning come to find out they worked for the lawn service that cut my neighbors yard. The were illegal and so was every employee the guy had on his payroll but himself. They arrested him and took all of his equipment and shipped the other guys off to ICE for processing.  What I found so amusing after I thought about it was I have lived in this town for many years and I have never seen the police busy on a Wednesday night at 2AM except that night and it was funny that when I said I will just shoot the guy she had a better idea real quick and the Calvary was on the way. I also had to laugh at one of the police officers when he said we need that dog working for us and his partner laughed and agreed. I was just wondering if anyone else has had an experience with the police in the middle of the night and what kind of response you got from the 911 operator. Oh yea, It cost my boat insurance company over $700.00 to re carpet my boat after they paid a company to try and wash out the stains.

  11. It's amazing how "customers" from EW magically join TGO and make their first post as soon as a thread that potentially harms the reputation of EW is created. How f-ing stupid do you think we are?   As far as stacking or touching two guns together, I don't see the need, nor would I want that done with my guns. I wasn't there, so I don't know who did or said what. Either way, I've heard enough about EW to never want to step foot in that place.

  15. Long story short, I wanted to compare two pistols size wise next to each other and they don't want you to touch the pistols together. I know this because the guy threw a thick black had towel at me and told me to put it between them. Ok, how are you supposed to compare two all black pistols with a thick black towel between them( you know, like comparing how big the trigger guards are.) I asked if he had anything else I could use, and was told no don't scratch my guns. I said ok, no thanks and set the two pistols down and started to walk away. This is the point to where it gets rediculous. As I'm walking away the counter guy very rudely tells me that I need to leave the premesis. This caught me off guard, so I stopped and asked him if he was serious. He then told me to leave again and dropped his right hand to his side and kinda behind him( he was open carrying his pistol on his hip in this area) turned his right side away from me and with his left hand made a show of picking up the phone as if he's calling the cops. I had my six year old daughter with me. At this point I left and made my way(via Krispy Kreme) to the other location to talk to the owner. The owner didn't really seem to care that his employee was, in my view, acting in a very threatining way. Over me touching two guns together. Two plastic framed pocket pistols...... The owner said he would watch the video from the other store and call me back, but he didn't appear to care what I had to say about anything. Never again will I step foot in his stores. Rant over.

  16. Not wanting someone to rub pistols together (even display models) is perfectly reasonable.  However, given the .22 ammo price thread and Authenticman's actions here, I've got an 0-2 count on EW.  If it was already 0-2 against EW, and this thread came along, I'd call a foul tip and wait for more evidence to equal strike three, but someone coming in and going right to the defense of a business is too much of a coincidence not to consider it on an 0-1 count.    Funny part is that consensus was building to the OP being in the wrong for wanting to rub the pistols together.  Authenticman, you could have hung back before coming to EW's rescue and avoided a good bit of this.

  19. I will have to admit this has been an enlightening discussion and a lot of peoples views have been expressed. Let me tell this to everyone because I realize that many have said many different things about homosexuals and or gays and I respect each ones feelings.       About 5 years ago I had a grandson come to me with a problem that he didn't feel he could talk to his mother and father about. He was having difficulty with his sexuality feelings. He had dated while in High School some but never quite felt comfortable around girls. So when old enough he secretly be began going to a gay bar and said he felt more comfortable there than in a regular bar. He ended up dating a few males and was even more confused because after that he was more uncomfortable. So he came to me for help. I was caught totally off guard. That is just not something you ever expect to be faced with discussing especially when he knew how strong willed I am about those type issues. He began to weep as he knew it was something he was not proud of yet so confused about. I finally asked him to stop weeping and handed him a box of tissues. I said son, your 22 years old and still have a long life ahead of you. Maybe your pushing yourself to hard in to many different directions all at once. If your not comfortable with either sex right now then put that on hold and begin to set other goals for yourself in life. I asked him if he liked his job and he said no. I asked him if there was a job he did like in his past and he said yes. I asked him what it was and he said busing tables and being a waiter. I told him to find a job doing one of those and put every bit of effort into that and see what happens. I also handed him his Grandmothers bible and I told him to read a little bit when he found time. He found a job as a waiter at an Ol'Charlie's about two weeks later. He also began reading his grandmothers bible when time permitted. Today he is a totally different young man today. Knows exactly where his life is going. He has been asst Manager of that Ol'Charlies now for almost a  year after his manager put him through their management program. He brought his Fiance' over to visit about two months ago and will marry her in June. He asked me to be best man at the wedding. Now with that said. Was I upset after he left? Yes and No. Did I still love him knowing what he had just told me? Yes because he is my grandson. Did I lay awake that night wondering if he would make it to where he wanted and needed to be? Of course I did but I knew I had done all I could do and I put it in GODS hands and said a special prayer before I went to sleep that night. Now did I ask myself could I still love him if he came to me and just told me that he was gay? In all honesty I gave that a lot of thought because in the back of my mind I knew that someday he may come and tell me he is because of how he felt about his life. I made up my mind after a lot of thought and Yes I would still love him and yes I would respect his decision. Would I have liked it. Probably not but he would have never known it. Now with that said. I don't know if anyone here has ever been faced with a similar situation and it is none of my business but I wanted to share my thoughts and feelings about the issue.    As far as Disney and what they choose to do. They are a business just like any other and if I don't agree with their views I don't have to spend my money purchasing anything they are selling or spending money at one of their parks. It is just like businesses post GUN FREE. I don't give them my money either...................jmho.

  21. Based on what that place gleefully charges for .22 ammo I'd never set foot in there to begin with.   As far as comparing pistols...you don't need to rub two brand new pistols together to do so.  I image they've had enough people scratching up the merchandise trying the same thing.      Is that all that happened between these two sentences?

  22. Greetings! Saturday was my first IDPA event and it exceeded all my expectations. I've wanted to take the plunge and start shooting IDPA mainly to increase my gun handling skills in a "stressful" situation and to do something other than stand in front of a paper target at 15yds and fire away, which gets boring. I had an incredibly great time and learned a TON about my shooting - mostly how much more work and practice I need. On that note, it was extremely beneficial to me. I was also able to bring an old comrade (Tony) from my paint balling days who also loves to shoot; I know from talking to him during and after the event he had the same excellent experience I had and is hooked and eager to attend regularly.    As for the MCTS guys and gals who hosted the event, I cannot say enough good things. As a new shooter at the event and event noobie, I was made to feel completely welcome. Everyone was extremely helpful, patient, communicated safety concerns, and just down-right good people that an excellent environment was obvious. That it was done without effort, speaks to the quality and character of the regulars we met. I left feeling confident I could bring any of my friends'n'family and know they would have the same great experience I had. Coming out to a new activity, especially a shooting event, can be intimidating. If anyone has been hesitating to attend IDPA (like me) can rest assured they will have a positive and beneficial experience with the folks of the Music City Tactical Shooters.   Thanks again to everyone who worked to put on the event and create the environment. The stages we awesome. I cannot wait to come back, shoot some more and bring more family and friends. Thanks again MCTS. I'd mention names, but I am sure I would get them wrong and miss some people.   -Kip

  25. Being gay doesn't immediately equate to rape and molestation.   It is not my way of life, but I prefer not to stick my nose into another's way of life if it doesn't affect my day to day life.       Like was mentioned earlier, I love the hypocrisy that is rampant whenever liberals trying to change things comes up.   Guys, we have to face the fact that we can't change the world view of everyone in our world, but what we do need to do is learn to coexist, or the rights that we enjoy will be lost to our children. Going forward with hate and trepidation is not what will keep us free.

  26. Well I want to thank everyone for their opinions and responses. They were all appreciated. As for shooting the guy, after his ordeal with Kasey I was almost feeling sorry for him and I had no reason to shoot him but I got the reaction I wanted by telling the dispatcher I would. All I wanted was for the LEO's and Paramedics to get there and take care of the situation and I knew that in this town at 2AM there is not much that goes on that all the police and paramedics could have been that busy. Kasey is getting older these days but still has some serious jaws and can still produce some serious damage but as myself she has mellowed out some. As far as the blood goes if it was just a little I might have left it but it was all over the front deck of my Skeeter Bass boat and I did have concern by the amount that I might have to perform first aid on his leg and put on something to stop his bleeding if help didn't arrive soon. I just wanted to share my one and only night of excitement involving the police and see if anyone else had a similar experience......................

  27. I've been going to gun shows regularly since 1974 and even then there was constant complaining about "You can't find deals like you could in the old days; everything now is junk and too high priced."  I strongly suspect that the very first newsgroup on the Internet was probably devoted to whining about gun shows.   When I was a senior high school, gas at the self-service place near the house was 24.9 cents a gallon and you could get .22 ammo for 72 cents a box if you'd hit the Saturday sale at Western Auto.  Neither price is coming back now matter how many people moan and wail about it.  So why waste the time and energy doing so?   And here's an important secret about gun shows:  There's no law that requires you to stop at the vendors selling lead crystal or alligator jerky or Chinese knives and flashlights.  You can walk right on by.  Try it.   If you don't like gun shows, stay home and watch TV and eat Cheetos all afternoon.  Fewer crybabies blocking the aisles will make navigation easier for the rest of us.   :)   Cheers, Whisper

  38. What are the cost factors if you ditch one of two cars, pay the ransom, and just live right up next to Vandy? The old definition of a "Town House." And then, perhaps enough left over for a little place waaaaaay out . . .   A million years ago, attending MTSU, I got a room just off campus, and we kept our modest Nashville home. Got together on weekends, saved a ton of gas, rode a bike to class.   After a semester or two, put some of our stuff in storage, got an on-campus married student apartment and just gutted it out. It wasn't like it was forever, we met some nice folks we're still friends with, and we had the benefit of all the on-campus cultural stuff . . .
