  3. The events of this brought out something in me that I've never felt as strongly. My wife and I don't have kids so I can't say how I would feel if it had been mine. This totally engulfed me today and I couldn't focus on anything but this. Posting on every news station FB page, sending personal emails and continually checking the thread to see if there was any new developments and much prayer time. Nothing else mattered but hearing that she was safe. I'm so very thankful that she is safe! Don't know the circumstances but Paul, know that you and the whole family will remain in my prayers! GOD IS GOOD!!!

  4. A portion of the Declaration of Independence:   " . . . Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. . . . 7. My experience with wind is this; Deer rely on three senses for safety and security. 1). Sight. While the wind blows, you have leaves and limbs moving and bouncing everywhere. Makes deer very nervous as their sight is impaired in windy conditions. 2). Hearing. Windy conditions screw with their hearing big time. Again, making them nervous. 3). Smell. The deer's number one defense is "scent". Wind disrupts this like you wouldn't believe. I went to a seminar at BP a couple years ago when a speaker discussed this. Your best option according to this pro, is to hunt the "leeward" sides of ridges and / or thickets where the deer have sought shelter from the wind. I'm not talking about a breeze now, but a full blown wind! They will seek those sheltered areas for security and comfort. Cedar thickets on the leeward side of the hills is "pay dirt"! I don't know as I've only killed one nice buck on a windy day. On the leeward side of a ridge!   Dave

  9.  I have never taken anything I have killed to a processor, ever. If the weather is such that I can feel my fingers I actually enjoy the process. Back when I had my Marine construction and excavating business I really didn't mind it. I would grab a skid loader, trackhoe or whatever happened to not be out on a job and tie it off to the bucket and raise it up, even offered all the light you could want. After the meat was in the cooler i'd just walk the machine over to the "boneyard" and dig down 4-5' and bury the leftover.  I learned how to go about it from my grandfather, great uncles and dad. Back before my time, dad says that there were almost no "leftovers" when Papa Bill got done cleaning one. Said they didn't just cut the guts out to throw away, they picked through and got what was good... We didn't have much "extras" when I was growing up but we never needed the extra bad enough to pick through the inards. My Papa Bill had 3 younger brothers and their drunk of a dad was killed when the 3 brothers were really young so my grandfather didn't really have a childhood since he had to provide for the family and part of that job was hunting for meat so wasting any of it was frowned upon. Kinda got off track, anyways, when I was a little guy I remember him sharpening knives at camp and handing everybody a knife and a chunk of meat. If there was ANY red flesh still showing anywhere, you weren't finished and it didn't matter how long it took, you kept at it until you were done. I was probably only 7 at the time and hadn't even killed my first deer yet but it was important to them that you knew how to finish the job before you went out and created the job (I've found this applies to a lot of things in life). Since I had learned to clean the deer that year, the next year when my dad and I went to camp I had a .243win rifle waiting on me. I wasn't let go out on my own because of my age but I sure was a proud boy to have that rifle of my own. They next year I got to clean the first deer that I had taken myself.  I guess I've taken the long way around on this story but All this up here ^ is why I clean and butcher my own. I kinda feel that it's my obligation to finish the job I started and I've always been proud to do it.

  12. Really? Well; they may have limits somewhere but they certainly haven't found them yet...this is, after all, the same NYC that just elected a self-identified socialist-communist as their mayor!  As with any location, I'm sure there are true conservatives in NYC but they are clearly outnumbered and ultimately powerless to do anything constructive.   Frankly, I don't give a s*** about NYC or the entire state for that matter...these people have the government they voted for and if the people are willing to get down on their hands and knees and take it without lubrication then that's their choice.

  13. He's just wanting to validate himself through the liberal rag "Esquire". Looks like he's been a Military Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and is an Infantry Officer. I bet he's always been a puss - to much mouth not enough real balls, hence the lame posting for international studies as an Infantry Officer which was 10 years ago. He was probably the O5 at Benning for the pre BN CMD orientation who stood there with his dick in his hand wondering what the F was going on and how he could "manage" all the little pieces... notice I didn't say lead. His numbers once again regarding the UK were quite twisted as he failed to compare the total per capita actual homicide rate of both nations (US 4.5% UK 8.5%) during the same time frame. Murder is murder no matter what the weapon - lets ban knives in the US because damn that's what everyone in the UK is being killed with. If you want to delve into how record keeping of deaths in the UK is jacked up just peruse this blog: http://rboatright.blogspot.com/2013/03/comparing-england-or-uk-murder-rates.html Obesity kills more people in the US than guns i.e., 2010 guns killed 31,3281 while the US Surgeon General says 300,0002 a year die from obesity related deaths. Not to mention obesity annually costs the US health care system $147 million3 while $4.5 billion is being spent on gun control measures; aren't our priorities just a little lop sided. So by all means lets ban the big gulp... hmm oh wait Bloomberg is already trying that. Also doesn't LTC Bateman look rather chunky and red faced (he's on the right below), could be his BMI is high and he's considered obese - just further burdening the US health care system. 1. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/FIREARM_DEATHS_AND_DEATH_RATES.pdf 2. http://www.surgeongeneral.gov/library/calls/obesity/fact_consequences.html 3. http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/adult/causes/index.html What a F' stick.

  17. Typically a filler is used on cases a lot larger. I shoot a LOT of Unique in .308 and I've never had ignition issues. I've even shot 3.0g of bullseye for some fun bunny fart loads. Never needed a filler. I've even tipped the rifle forward before firing a 10.0g charge of Unique and didn't see any difference in ignition or grouping. There WAS a difference with the bullseye load but that IS a 308 case with only 3 grains of powder. Lol. The most common filler is Dacron. A small tuft in the case to hold the powder in place. Remember too, filler with smokeless ain't the same as filler with black powder. A filler with smokeless can and will increase pressures as it essentially reduces case capacity. You can't have airspace with back powder (very bad) so the way to reduce the load is to use a filler. We're the old guys you remember using black powder loads? Do what you like but I don't really see a need for a filler with the load you are using. I dont load 44 but i do load 45 colt and one of my favorite powders is AA Nitro 100. Charge weights are similar to your IMR powder. I've had nothing but good results from it. Just be safe.

  18. I enjoyed our post. As a hunter, I feel that we have an obligation to bring new hunters into the fold.  I've brought in many but I try to be selective.  I like getting kids into hunting.  And I don't mind getting adults into hunting as well but I'm picky about who I take.  Processing your own deer gives you a sense of accomplishment and a better appreciation for th animal you took.  I can't say that if I knew of a really good processer and had lots of money that I would have my deer done, but I don't think it would fel right.  To me that would feel like I started a job but didn't finish it.  But, I think every hunter should know how to process their own deer.  I think if everyone who killed a deer had to proces it themselves we would have a lot less "Fudds" in the woods.

  19. I have one as well as a torque wrench and barrel nut wrenches for most major brands. I'd be happy to assist established TGO members in the Sumner area if they would like to stop by and torque their barrel on. I'm not a gunsmith and the use of tools is free.

  26. Picked up my two sequential TGO Lowers at D&T last night.   As quick as I drove over, I was third at the pickup. Had a nice chat with David and got to see his clean and orderly shop for the first time. All the paperwork was in order from CMT and D&T, filled out the 4473, paid the NICS fee and the very modest transfer fee and was quickly good to go.   CINC-House said don't buy anything else, but also bought an armorer's wrench as it's real bad karma to use a LGS's transfer and not make an additional purchase. Almost picked up a reasonably priced trigger & grip kit and some ammo, but I saved it for the next couple trips & excuse to get out of the house.    Got a hot cup of coffee, asked David a few questions about his line, talked a little treason and asked his opinion on 300 Blackout, trigger kits, uppers, the Rivergate Mall area (he's across the street)  and the national scene. Compared notes on military service (he's a retired Navy Chief) and his work on ship armaments systems during his time; it make sense he's running a ship-shape gun shop & crew now. Good bunch of folks.

  27.   More likely, a serious outbreak of civil disobedience. Don't go thinking that it's impossible to reach a tipping point. The kingdom doesn't have the resources to enforce their BS unless there is large scale compliance. A viral outbreak of disobedience would overwhelm them. Got nothing to do with shooting folks that may deserve it.

  28. So the government is going to be overthrown because of Obama care? Give me a break. If the government is overthrown so is the Constitution; it becomes a worthless piece of paper. That won’t happen. Now I won’t rule out an economic collapse of the government. But then everyone loses. I hate Obama and his ideas as much as anyone; but not enough to turn my back on my country.
