I think we ought to quit withholding payroll taxes. Make everyone write one check on April 15th and then immediately follow it with Election Day on April 16. Term limits would be a self-correcting problem.10 points

It's like this; if I'm doing the legal speed limit and you fly up on me...get a grip, because I'm not going to speed up to satisfy your stupidity! DaveS4 points

Yesterday I took my Savage Mod.170 .35 Rem., First time its gone this year. Well a little before 8 this small 4 point (little scrub) comes troting across the field. Before I can get the gun on him he is in a small thicket, through it and in two the second field. Still moving along pretty good while as I'm raising the rifle, I holler HEY, he pauses for a moment. Alright gun is up and pointing, he is still troting away so I holler HEY. He stops and throws his head up and looks around. Gives me just enough time to draw a bead and squeeze off a shot ........................................................................ bang flop hits the ground drags himself maybe ten yds. Thats it, those 200gr Rem cor locs do a number. Don't have a pic, but there is a picture of said rifle in the .35 Rem thread. Since Sun, I have taken three deer with three different rifles.3 points

Read this morning on line were some crazy professor of course from a New York University proposing that we do away with the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution and allow a President to run and remain President as long as he chooses to. I guess being from New York you can expect something like that. As far as I'm concerned I think every elected official in the Senate, House need term limits right along with keeping the Presidents at two and I think that there should also be limits put on how long the a Judge of the Supreme Court should be allow to have a seat on the Supreme Court Bench. I think in the past and even right now there are one or two that are well past age to possibly have Alzheimer's and need to be gone....................jmho2 points

I am a EST (engagement skills trainer) operator for my reserve unit, did the same thing for my active unit. Some of the electronic trainers, like the EST are amazing teaching tools, but they should be used with the same general rules as a live weapon. I cant say about this system, but on an EST i can show an individual shooter everything the weapon is doing during the shooting process. When paired with a decent coach it is one of the better ways of identifying shooter deficiencies and without the ammo expenditure to boot. Electronic shoot don't shoot training is great, practicing with blanks/simmunitions using large groups of role players may be better, but it is not as cost effective. The systems are only games if they are treated that way, when used how they are designed they are nearly as effective as live fire training and in some cases even more effective.2 points

So what I'm thinking Terry is this... put an empty gun safe in your garage, don't bolt it down, hide your guns under the mattresses and in the closet like the old days, and won't the perps be surprized when they drag your safe home and open it up to find a note that says "Gotcha!" :rofl:2 points

My take is that term limits are not the answer. Making your livelihood being a career politician is the problem. Cut all the salaries by 75% or more and let's see what happens. The founders wanted common folk to serve because they wanted to, not to get rich in government.2 points

I have to say that I really like Tarantino's films. They are highly entertaining. But they are entertainment only, and I place no political or historical significance on them.2 points

Can I buy some punctuation? First off this is a privately owned property. Any past history you or your family have on this property is because the owners allowed. You have absolute zero rights and zero ownership on that tract. It is not public and never has been, although people like to think like it is. People have threatened to burn Gobey for over a decade over our management decisions and it is always false threats. Big deal....light it up, hope they catch em and put em under the jail. Your rant is not only incoherent but it's offense to all private land owners. No one comes to your house and tells you how to mow your yard, what gives you the right to tell Coal Creek how to manage theirs?2 points

True. There were also no popular presidential elections, electors were chosen by the state houses. US senators were not elected directly, but appointed by their respective state governments. I'm told this was to insure that the states retained some modicum of control over who represented their interests at the federal level, and restrained the influence of the "unwashed masses" over national politics. It seems our founding fathers were far more suspicious of democratic processes than we today, perhaps we should consider whether the changes we have made since that time have really been for the better...2 points

If anything this is one of them cautionary tales to learn from. I'm sure the shooter feels horrible about this and it will take a toll on his life. Add to that the civil suit that is sure to come.2 points

I'm in for term limits on Congress, too. Even as wise as the founding fathers were, they didn't forsee a voter demographic as stupidly disengaged as the one we have now.2 points

So, if I'm passing someone at, say 72, and some asshat comes racing up on my butt at 85, I should increase my speed to 85 to accommodate him?2 points

Goldenrod a must and bolt the safe down a must. Anything beyond that is just to make us feel better. A friend of mine is a cop and he once investigated a home robbery where the perps stole a bunch of Dewalt cordless tools next door and used a 18v circular saw to go right through the garage door in minutes then helped themselves to the contents of the garage. The door alarm on the "people" door never went off because the door wasn't opened. whitewolf, I'm not judging, I'm laughing.2 points

Had a State Trooper one time tell me that the speedlimit is 70MPH. He said I was doing 82. I told him I was passing a vehicle. He said "let me repeat myself". You were doing 82 in a 70 mph zone, I don't care what you were doing. The speed limit is 70, not 82! I think my Firefighter plate got me out of a ticket. Simply put, passing in the passing lane is NOT an excuse to speed. Both the right hand and left hand lanes are posted 70MPH. We don't get to pick and choose. If the OP was doing 70 in the passing lane, then he was 100% correct! He just happened to get in front of a jerk! The left lane isn't the speeding lane, nor is the right. DaveS2 points

Dunno the nuances of GA deadly force laws, but that could likely be a life changing "oops" for the shooter. Guy wasn't inside the abode, unarmed, and old. Even without the Alzheimer's, initially sounds like situation involving a person not presenting any threat that simply going back in the home and calling the cops would have remedied. - OS2 points

I've never reloaded. I've never watched anyone reload. I know almost nothing bout reloading. I do plan on taking a TGO member or two up on their offers to show me the ropes, but I'd like to get an idea of what I'll need. Being that I'm in the middle of this 300 Blackout build, reloading for this caliber is my main immediate concern. Other calibers of concern will be mostly .223/5.56 and .40 S&W. What will I need? If it's not too much trouble, specifics (brands, types, models, etc.) would be most helpful. Also, items to avoid may also come in handy, too. Thank you in advance.1 point

Yes, as BATF has ruled it's not a vertical grip. Further, you can put a vertical one on a pistol that is 26" or more in legal overall length, whereupon it becomes a legal "firearm". - OS1 point

First off I've been an FSU fan all my life and I hate that Bama lost because I wanted to see that NC game. I keep hearing the same weak schedule over and over and I would get that if FSU just weaseled through. BUT, they didn't, they beat the piss out of them and started putting 2 string in at halftime on a lot of them. A weak team doesn't run a season allowing little to no points against them all the while pounding the ball into the oppositions end zone repeatedly. I have a lot of Bama fans as friends on Facebook and I don't think I heard a single one mention the strength of schedule until they let Auburn stick it to them and all the sudden they are all crying. I don't get upset over any football game because it's just that, a game. Like I said earlier, I really was looking forward to FSU and Bama playing so I guess in a way my feelings are hurt to lol1 point

This thread has affirmed what I concluded years ago, that the majority of drivers on the road are selfish and could care less about anyone else. Why don't people realize that the biggest risk to thier lives every day is during thier driving to and from work or as in my and many other cases driving daily here and there in the commission of my job ? Lack of courtesy and respect for the other drivers on the road will get you killed faster than the thug you may come across that we all carry our guns for. Just saying.1 point

I recommend the RCBS Rockchucker master reloading kit. It has everything you will need less dies and shell holders for the various calibers you wish to reload. You probably will advance to a progressive press in a year or so but you won't sell this press off. The leverage the rockchucker has is needed for other tasks that can't ne done on a progressive loader. Ive been using my Dillon 650 for years but still get out my rockchucker to do stuff 3-4 times a year.1 point

I think $280 NIB TS with scope is a good buy and with the receiver bolt clips, it makes breaking it down a little easier. If you're looking for a reliable platform effective out to about 100 yards with basically a lifetime of free parts for when you need to tinker, go for it. You will be able get you $$ back out of it if you hate it. I think OS hit it on the head, everything else will be well north of $500 - $6001 point

I am not a Lee fan myself (and I have used them). I think any beginner should start with a single stage press and go from there. You will always need a single stage in my opinion. I think the best qulaity to value right now is the RCBS Rockchucker Supreme kit. It's on sale at midway. Add a set of RCBS dies and get the $50 back from RCBS. You will need more, but it will get you the basics and get you off to a good start. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/937051/rcbs-rock-chucker-supreme-master-single-stage-press-kit Or add this to it and get the $50 off with rebate. I like having a separate stand for my powder measure. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/125792/rcbs-advanced-powder-measure-stand1 point

I bought an RCBS Rockchucker kit 30 years ago and have never needed anything faster or better. All of the kit components are high quality and things you really need. You'll also need a tumbler, a case trimmer, a stuck case remover and a bullet puller, in addition to dies for each caliber. I own both RCBS and Hornady dies and both are high-quality.1 point

I'm a huge fan of the Lee Classic 4 hole turret press. I load blackout, 223, and 45 ACP on it. There's a lot of stuff to get. Dolomite has a good list floating around.1 point

That comes from not instructing a new shooter on the basics BEFORE they shoot. Loading and unloading is the next step following how to make the gun safe. And that should happen long before you hand someone a loaded weapon. He has handed someone a loaded weapon that they have no clue how to make safe.1 point

Which, other than small vehicle drivers who don't understand the phrase "passing lane"; is a significant part of the problem...one truck going 62.3 because that's where he gets his best MPG while another is most efficient at 62.6 so the "faster" truck pulls into the passing lane and takes five miles to pass the "slower" truck...I regularly see this on I24 heading toward Chattanooga with literally two dozen cars backed up because of one semi riding in the passing lane.1 point

First off my heart goes out to the old gentleman that was killed. I have had a few older relatives with Alzheimer's and it is very hard to watch them go through it. Now with that said. the Police where on the phone so you know they had a squad car in route. Had it been me I would have remained in the house protecting my GF and waited on police to arrive. Your in the house, you have a gun and you are safe. You not only put your life in danger by going out side but also your GF's because if there is more than one person outside and they do have bad intentions you have put your self and your GF in danger if you get killed by a shooter and possibly your girlfriend also. To many bad decisions made because you have a gun does not make you bullet proof or superman. Did he shoot legally? I think it should be up to a jury to decide and yes I do think he should be charged with something that would put it in front of a jury...................jmho If he gets away with out being charged your going to send a message to everyone in that area that it is okay to just shoot first and ask questions later............again...........jmho1 point

They obviously haven't had a 120 pound tire with 100+ PSI and spinning at 70 MPH blow out next to their window. God forbid it be a steer tire. Of all the things I encounter as a truck driver, this is probably the most aggravating. Not only is it extremely unsafe for someone in a small vehicle to ride alongside a semi, it leaves the truck driver one less escape route, in the event we need to make a sudden lane change for any number of reasons.1 point

Well I for one ignore them and get over asap. Now if the idiot flashes his lights, honks or makes any other stupid signals I have been known to slow down. Now I mean slow down so I can get back in my lane safely, now how slow I do it depends on the mood I'm in. I don't flip anyone off, I don't give any hand signals, I drive a bunch (got an 06 dodge ram with 199000 miles on it) and I try to be courteous so I feel that moving over is the correct thing to do, I just prefer to slow down and not put my truck under anymore stress that necessary. :D1 point
-
And the lollygagging there is unsafe. The longer you are opposite another vehicle at high speed on the open road, the greater the risk. Just takes a second to swerve over into your lane from inattention, distraction, sleepiness, whatever. Folks who take minutes to get around a semi make me especially cringe. - OS1 point

Thats what he was doing, passing the slower car in front of him. Left lane isnt for doing 100mph, its for passing slower traffic.1 point

As I have said in the past, the LAST thing I want to do is have to shoot someone. If there is a easy way out.....take it. Don't go outside looking for trouble, and if you do, go back inside. It is simply not worth the time, hassle, questions, prison, and regret.1 point

Screw him and his family. If he wasn't a useless pile of ghetto ćrap, he wouldn't have got shot. If the family would have raised him to be something better than a steaming pile of ghetto ćrap, he wouldn't have got shot. I'd love to see the $10 TICS go away. We already pay for NICS through our taxes, so the TICS charge is just a revenue source for the state. I'd also like to see the absurdly vague 'with intent to go armed' language be replaced by something simple like 'during the commission of a felony'. It's time to remind those critters up on the hill that it's an election year coming up! And so far, I'm not particularly impressed with anything they've done lately.1 point

It’s a government conspiracy. He is being set-up. We are all at risk for this; they are going to get our wives or girlfriends to accuse us all of violence and seize all our weapons. We should start a collection to buy George new guns as soon as he is cleared of these preposterous allegations. Don’t forget... This could be you.1 point

Interesting that this isn't the first time. I'd like for one of our resident LEO's or law experts to weigh in on the legality of the road block. Honestly, I'd probably stop but tell them to pound sand when I learned what they were up to. I'd also probably call 911 to report/verify what they were doing.1 point

I have my safe in the garage. I use both a golden rod and dessicant packs and have never had a problem. I keep mine off the floor with a couple of two by fours and then ran the bolts through those into the concrete. I also have a motion detector for my alarm in the garage. If someone is motivated enough to get my safe after all of that they can have it, I have insurance. But hell, the safe itself weighs almost 1000 pounds. Add to that the numerous guns and other stuff in there and we're looking at almost a ton. I keep mine covered with a UT throw blanket, so for the casual observer that might peek into my garage it just looks like I'm supporting my wife's favorite team.1 point
